How to Road Trip Around Israel on a Budget (Updated 2025)

"We note Hertz at HaYarkon St 144, Tel Aviv-Yafo, as one of the rental companies located near the Dan Tel Aviv Hotel where you can compare offers, though we often find smaller agencies to have more attractive prices." - Matthew Kepnes

Very disappointing experience with this Hertz branch in Tel Aviv. I rented a car for a very short period and drove for approximately two hours, yet I was charged 318 NIS for a full tank of fuel, claiming that the car was not returned full. This charge is completely disproportionate to the actual usage of the vehicle. No clear explanation or detailed justification was provided. Such a lack of transparency is surprising and unacceptable for an international company like Hertz. I strongly advise future customers to carefully check the fuel level at both pickup and return to avoid unexpected charges.

Rented a car there for 6 days, very reasonably priced. Had no wait to get the car or return it, got it very swiftly and I was able to leave it parked for a while longer while enjoying the beach. The car I got was not clean from the outside but I was told this upfront. It was a new car and very well equipped though.

Easy to reserve online. Pre loaded required documents. Pickup and drop-off were very easy.

I waited 2h30 to have a car reserved by internet. The car was filled with shocks, scratches and dirty. The stained seats. In short the horror! And to add there is no baggage cover: it disappeared. And they reply: "Well, there's no more!" Practical when you have luggage! So Hertz is the hirer to flee to Tel Aviv!

Worst service ever, do NEVER EVER rent there! 1. when you book the car from the website, it's without the mandatory insurance, then when you come to the countrer at 1am, they tell you to pay the insurance, which 50% of the price of the rental... absolutely digusting. 2. I return the car with 6/8 full tank, they charged me a full tank, telling me that at the sign, I allegedly took an option to retun the car with empty tank.. the guy specifically told me to return it full. 3. the customer car doesnt car about client satisfaction, they just care about charging more and more and give a very sour taste to the experience... I will NEVER EVER rent with them again !

Absolute outrageous customer service. Understaffed. Guy behind counter just left midway through my order to deal with returning cars.

I had 2 rentals within two weeks, everything went smooth, quick pickup and quicker drop off. The cars are not the cleanest but they are new and in good conditions

Very unpleasant rental experience - more than an hour, and got a car with heavy cigarette smell. Our car was not ready so they offered a small upgrade. While speaking to us, the rep asked a worker to go and fuel the car, but the guy lingered. So after a while the rep, exasperated, left to get the car himself. We were told it would take 15 minutes but the wait was about 50 minutes after the paperwork was done. Meanwhile we shred the tiny waiting room with the guy who was supposed to fuel our car, and at some point he even tried to shoot a paper ball to the waste basket and hit me instead. The car we got smelled badly from cigarettes, but by then we were too late to ask for another.
