HeSheng Chinese Restaurant

We're a British-Chinese family of four and were recommended this Chinese eatery by friends in to Cape Town to give it a try. We're really glad we did, as the food was simple yet delicious! The broth inside the xiaolongbao is one of the best we've had in years, and we really liked the "tofu with dark egg" dish (which is silken tofu served cold with century egg). The only thing that was let it down was the pak choi, which felt like it was an old batch of greens used, but otherwise the taste of everything was really good! I'd recommend to any Asian/Oriental families wanting a quick and delicious reminder of Eastern food on their travels.

Ate their soup dumplings (xiao long bao). Super tasty - want to come back with friends and try all their dishes! The waiter recommended soup dumplings, cucumber salad, beef flank soup noodles, wonton soup noodles. Also want to try their spring onion pancake. Their dumplings look so pretty and they have round tables with a little spinning round thing in the middle for easy sharing with a group.

Friendly but completely inattentive and poorly organized waitress. Poor air quality and stuffiness due to inadequate ventilation, even though it generates a loud, unpleasant noise. Our clothes smelled completely of grease after our visit. Unfortunately, the food was only mediocre and snack bar quality.

We had the pork & leek fried dumplings and the pork soup dumplings — both were absolutely delicious! The flavors were spot on, fresh, and so satisfying. Definitely recommend HeSheng if you’re craving authentic dumplings

It is your typical restaurant atmosphere with great food. If you are looking for authentic xiao long bao in Cape Town and surrounds. This place is it. The quality of their food hasn’t faltered throughout the years. We went there for their dim sum and xiao long bao (perfectly made, flavorful and juicy). We will be back.

Great service. And the food is authentic Chinese cuisine. The portions are slightly small compared to other Chinese restaurants, so for a large table you will end up ordering at least 2 of each dish. Higky recommended if you looking for a truly great Chinese cuisine experience.

After reading about HeSheng we went for lunch. What a wonderful gem. You need to look carefully as it has a small entrance. The service was very friendly. We started with the famous Xiao-Long Bao. It’s small bao’s filled with pork and a soup. It is really good. Then we had the prawn noodle. There was actually a decent amount of prawn in the dish. We also had the black bean beef - very authentic flavour. I can definitely recommend HeSheng

Went for dinner with family after we decided to go to Sea Point to watch the sunset. Food was lovely with the only exception being when the chef made a mistake by putting a specific ingredient in which we do not eat into a dish, we told the waiter and they took it in but only just picked out the specific ingredient and gave it back to us instead of making a completely new dish. Otherwise, the dumplings and the noodles were delicious. Little overpriced for the experience and for the food we had, but will definitely go a little earlier next time when they not so busy and try again. Til next time...
