A really pleasant and underrated museum in the city center, dedicated entirely to ceramics — from historical pieces to modern design. The exhibitions are well curated and easy to follow even if you’re not a “museum person,” and the space itself feels bright, calm, and modern. We visited with friends and enjoyed how relaxing it was compared to the busy streets outside. There’s enough variety to keep everyone interested: delicate porcelain, artistic ceramics, and surprising contemporary works. Staff were friendly, and the whole place felt well maintained. Great option for a rainy day or when you want something культурное but not overwhelming. Plan about 1–2 hours, and if you like design or craft, you’ll probably stay longer.

Excellent collection. I loved the Islamic, East Asian and pre-colombian ceramics.

If you love ceramics, you should definitely go there. Museum was the collection of Laurenz Heinrich Hetjens, who donated his belongings to Düsseldorf. Museum has a wide collection of different cultures from Africa, Asia, Anatolia and Europe. The views from the windows are nice. The set ups are beautifully decorated and have brochures about the tables and the content.

1. English and German texts in the display cases and on many walls. 2. Graceful data visualization. 3. The windows frame the old town charms and make them part of the museum experience, thanks to prime location and meandering layout. 4. Inspiring presentation and juxtaposition of cultures. 5. 3 hours (minimum) recommended for those interested in the theme and love reading the background info. 6. The self-service locker cabinets on the ground floor take both 1 euro and 2 euro coins. You get the coins back as you unlock. 7. Great for raining days, though not a waste of sun on a sunny day, either. 8. A Cool and relaxing walk from the Heinrich-Heine subway (U-bahn) station, or from the Poststrasse tram station (line 709 and 706).

Went there during the night of museums. I loved the interactive crafting places, you could design your own hand fan or take part in a cosplay event. If you like keramics this would be the place to go.

Amazing ceramic museum with a great collection that has something from all over the world. The staff is great and the building itself has a lot of history behind it. We couldn't see it in one go, since there is a lot to see. I highly recommend it for anyone visiting Düsseldorf.

Ceramic museum, with historical BC to artsy contemporary pieces. Stuff from all over the world. You only come here only if you like ceramics. The museum goes through ancient use of clay up to the present time. Lots of beer mugs and a lot more, China, Japan, French, Byzantine, Turkish, lslamic and more. Porcelain plates and a few very contemporary ceramic pieces. Once again, come here only if you love the history of clay and porcelain.Great view on the street from window

Yelp
Amazing ceramic museum and very glad I got a chance to check it out, curtesy of it being free with the Düsseldorf card! The museum is spread out across two buildings. Towards the left, the first floor has Islamic and Modern ceramic art. The Islamic ceramic is amazing as there is an actual half of a tiled building in the museum! Downstairs is ancient ceramic art from all over the world and beautifully curated, visually striking pieces of not just every day objects, but also art works. Towards the right, the museum is spread over 4 floors, with the first floor being these amazing Delft cutlery sets, and then there was a special Chinese exhibition on the 2nd floor when we were visiting in December 2018. I I learnt that the ceramics that were glazed in yellow were meant for the Chinese Emperor only, and that the glazing of the color of the ceramic food bowls in China provided a visual cure that signified your importance at the Chinese court. This was a very very interesting exhibit, and I learned a lot about Chinese ceramic art. The 3rd floor of this museum had another enormous dining set and some other interesting pieces. However the 4th floor was another beautiful surprise and one of my faves - it's all decorative digital sculptural pieces, and it's not just sculptures depicting men or women, but animals too! The artistry really amazed me and if you only have a limited time to spend in this museum, this floor is where I would suggest you head to. Overall, really beautiful and brilliant and fascinating! Absolutely recommend! Yelp 246/ 2018
