Northern Lights, Explained: What They Are and How to See Them

"A remote guesthouse with onsite hot springs, friendly shaggy ponies, and very dark skies, creating a restful, nature-focused base ideal for spotting and soaking under the aurora." - Stephanie Vermillion Stephanie Vermillion Stephanie Vermillion is a travel journalist and photographer covering culture and adventure for Travel + Leisure Outside, and more. I onaly visited the pools in- and outside. We paid ~10eur for them what is a fair price. Towel rental is ~3,5eur. The pools have 3 different temperature options. Pros: The greenhouse pools were very nice and the greenhouse itself is so cool! I really enjoyed the staff who were super nice and welcoming, the animals aswell. Very good vibes there and I will for sure revisit. Very quiet and calm on sunday in october. Cons: The outdoors pond was a bit dirty and for some reason had alot of dead earth worms in it? Personally I did not mind as it had a lovely view and otherwise it was nice but still a bit odd. We were promised facilities for the pool (shower and changing room and a WC) but the showers didn't work and the changing rooms were dirty and had trash in them. Personally I did not mind but it is something that may bother people.

By far our favorite place we stayed at during our trip around Iceland. We saw a whale on the drive up. We camped here for a night. The restaurant staff were great. The food was delicious. The blueberry dream is the best dessert I've ever had. Bathrooms and showers were clean. Loved the greenhouse pool room. All the geothermal baths were very nice. Beautiful spot. I will miss this place. Recommend to anyone in the area

We had a 2 bedroom apartment which was clean and spacious, but basic. Dinner in the restaurant was just okay but the breakfast spread had some very nice dishes. We may have just been unlucky but it was so busy, both at the main building and at the campsites. There were so many children, particularly around the pool area, so we did not even bother going there. It all felt a bit like a holiday camp, great for families I imagine, but not so great for couples. Most of the staff were lovely, but they were always so busy.

Best hotel/campsite/farm lodge experience we had in Iceland! Far away from any light pollution, we were able to see so many stars! We were even blessed to see some northern lights! The owners are very friendly. They have several hottubs, a sauna, and a pool in a greenhouse, horses, cats, a dog, and even a semi-tame arctic fox called "Lufa" (meaning Mittens in icelandic). The pool and the hottub are open 24/7, so you might even get to see all of those stars or northern light from a cosy spot in one of the hottubs! I would highly recommend spending at least one night here! Ohw, and did i mention all of the amazing dishes they serve at the restaurant? Most of them are made with locally caught or produced ingredients!

This is a very interesting hotel with very caring staff and an attentive, hands-on owner. She was very accommodating to our specific needs, where she prepared an early breakfast for our family when we needed to leave extra early. I would like to thank them for their gracious hospitality and ensuring our needs were met. The dog was very friendly as well!

Stopped for lunch and loved it. Delicious trout! Paid typical Icelandic prices but considering the remote location and quality it was reasonable. This place has a lot of character.

The country hotel is a family run holiday farm-type of hotel, consisting of apartments, camping, swimming pool and restaurant. We stayed in a 2-bedroom apartment, which was very clean with view to the valley. We loved the old natural hot-tub across the river (easy crossing by large stones) and the restaurant: trout in 4 variants and probably our best Icelandic breakfast! Staff were very kind as well.

Incredible, magical location that is worth taking a whole trip out to the westfjords just to experience. The activities are numerous, from hot pots to horse riding, with an incredible restaurant and quaint hotel attached. We spent a night camping and relished the beauty of the valley while swimming in the warm pool and numerous hot springs. The restaurant featured local catches of fish and blew our tastebuds away with every bite. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, and there were multiple friendly animals to meet including a cat, a dog, and an African grey parrot who greets you by the door!
