HI Auberge de Jeunesse Lyon

This is not a luxury hostel, or even up to the finished standard of German or Swiss hostels, however it is well appointed with all the needs and requirements that any budget traveller would need. The staff was always very accommodating. This hostel is located right in the middle of the old city tourist area. The view from this hostel overlooking the city of Lyon is spectacular. And the outdoor terrace with dining, lounge, and bar area is superb. Grocery stores, restaurants, and lots of other shops are close by.

I normally don’t do this. Sharing my secret places. If you are looking to have a coffee, a drink and/or a bite to eat while enjoying the best view of Lyon from a secluded terrace, look no more you found THE place. And you can say to the new manager Selim that you are coming on my behalf! Enjoy without moderation

The reviews of this hostel are incredibly harsh considering that our stay was very good. The hostel was clean, the view spectacular, comfortable beds, decent bathrooms. The only small downside was the shower that was only cold and you have to hold a button down the whole time. Overall this place exceeded our expectations considering the plethora of poor reviews.

Really rundown place with dirty floors, disgusting showers and the one or other malfunctioning toilets, water taps and soap dispensers. All of that would have granted a three star review in consideration of the magnificent view over Lyon and the decent breakfast. But the fact that they have bedbugs for at least two months by now has reduced the fun I had whilst and after the stay in this place.

It was just so horrible I don’t even know where to start.😡🤯 Our rooms were a disaster! After I took of my bedsheets I saw that there were some piss stains which in my opinion is a disrespectful behavior because the staff goes home and sleeps in their clean beds while we had to sleep in those wracks. The bathroom and toilets were like a nightmare. The curtain of our bathroom was so disgusting that we all were scared to get in contact with it while showering🤢Concerning the breakfast I have to say that it was ok but it really disturbed me that our dishes were dirty and I always had to clean everything carefully. To sum it up, I wouldn’t rate to stay in that hostel because it really is so dirty that I didn’t go into my room until I was really about to fall asleep and on top of that I always felt really uncomfortable in there and at the end of the week I couldn’t enjoy my vacation because I didn’t sleep that much and I was very unhappy with our accommodation in general. In my opinion the hostel doesn’t even deserve 1 star...

A great youth hostel! I learned that they are renovated so the installations are all quite new! I spent only one night here. Both the evening and morning staff are really nice to me. We had long and interesting discussion. Breakfast croissant is amazing. Also the location is so good. Cathedral Saint Jean is just down below. When I walk up the hill to the hostel, I can take a bird view of the cathedral facade, a bonus during the light festival. Le Fourviere hill is just above. Walking for several minutes you can get to lots of tourist attractions. If I were ever to come back to lyon, I would still stay here XD. (unless I became super rich:)

Nice view from the terrace, very cheap. If you don't mind that it's even for a hostel not a very clean place definitely a good choice. I've stayed there for one night and that was ok, but I wouldn't stay here again. At least working toilets should be there as a minimum standard.

Overall I really like this hostel, it has all the services I expect from a hostel. There is a free breakfast that I find very filling, clean rooms, bathrooms, showers, and big common area. The views are really spectacular, and the staff are very kind. However its bathrooms and showers are very outdated. The shower and sink are one of those timed spouts where you cannot control the temperature, time, or pressure. In addition, the wifi does not cover the entire building so if you live in a room far from the common area, tough luck. The price is however the best I have seen in Lyon, so all these complaints can be wavered. NOTE: to live in this hostel, you need a membership to hostel international

I wanted to like this place, I really did. But perhaps I'm just too old now to be staying in youth hostels. Or perhaps I just received a bad room with bad bunkmates. Either way I'm sorry but I just can't recommend this place due to the roommate situation. The staff is super nice, the view is amazing and the price is spot on but goddamn druggies who smoke indoors and get pissed off when you walk into a bedroom at 3 in the afternoon to lay down your bags just made me say 'nope.'

Recently stayed here during the European Championships so the place was busy. It's a bit of a walk up a steep hill but when you get there the views from the hostel terrace are great. I've probably been spoiled by staying in some sparkling new places recently but this hostel is a bit old and worn but overall it's fine. Beds are OK, showers clean enough, staff reasonably friendly and nice bar.
