I booked a private with ensuite and found it well set-up. There were a couple of hooks in the room, but for longer stays a shelf of some kind would be helpful to be able to unpack. The bed left a lot to be desired though. Rock hard & noisy. The hostel itself is pretty central, 10-20 mins walk to multiple restaurants, shops & Calgary tower. The hostel is quiet and common areas are clean. They are starting to arrange a few guest events and I love the inclusive ideas Kirby is coming up with. Melissa was fabulous when a timezone pickle led me to needing a quiet space for an interview. On street parking was easy enough and pretty cheap for paid parking.

The staff in this Hostel weren't exactly friendly when compared to some of the others at HI Hostels I have been to. Breakfast is only served from 8, forget about getting anything in case you have to check out before that time. You get the bare bone minimum to the point where I was positively surprised to see shower gel in the showers. At least the location is great in the middle of Calgary.

Very nice places to stay if you need a place to sleep. The private rom we had was nice and clean. Good hot water pressure and temperature. The only downside was the bed we had. It sloped from the middle. So it felt like you were going out of bed. Overall it was good, it was in a great location and the staff was very friendly.

We have stayed n several hostels across Canada and many across the world. Well located easy walking distance to city centre. This one we had a room with bathroom- so don’t know that life in dorms are like. The kitchen, with the exception of the tiniest microwave, was very well appointed- the breakfast was plentiful and varied. On,y down side was the wafting of cigarette ( and other smoked fumes) from the permitted smoking area into our room- most other hostels have a no smoking on premises rule.. special thanks to Thomas who despite some serious technical [door key cards) kept his professionalism and sorted things out for us..

I booked well in advance for Calgary stampede, a few weeks before I received an email saying that my card payment didn’t go through and I needed to contact them. Not sure why this even happened as my details were correct and my card hadn’t changed. I phoned them up within a day of receiving the email and was reassured several times that my booking was fine and I didn’t need to do anything further. We arrived and they had canceled our booking, didn’t have any room left and provided no other options. If you receive an email about failed payment make sure you talk to a manager and not someone on the front desk that clearly doesn’t know what’s going on.

If you’re looking for a place to stay and want to feel well rested I advise forking out for a private room or a different place altogether. Even with earplugs in every single bed in the female dorm I was staying in was soo unbelievably loud anytime you move. If people are staying up late or checking in late you’ll barely get any sleep. Also if you hope to sleep in earplugs are a must otherwise you just hear the Spanish housekeepers conversation yelling across the hallways. I mean it is a hostel and cheap is cheap. With all the being said the place was very clean, kitchen bathroom and rooms and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly.

It is a good location if you're interested in the downtown area. The trains going south, north, and west are a short walk away, and Uber is very convenient. The atmosphere is a bit subdued in the common areas. The dorms have air conditioners that leak ice cold air into the rooms, and the top bunks are awkward to climb up to. The kitchen is equipped minimally but very functional, and food storage is available. Previously, the building smelled because of dirty carpets, but that's been taken care of. Parking is free overnight and on Sunday, but it's on the street and if you can't find any free parking there are private parking lots nearby that will be happy to take your money. The staff is very friendly and pleasant and the front desk is manned overnight, which is great for late arrival. Breakfast is "free," but if you have to leave before 7:30 am, there's none set out. Good value.

staff fantastic. Only one whose name I got--Hassan. But others great too, one was very helpful when i checked out and needed directions on where to catch bus to airport. Hostel very clean, good location, breakfast not bad. I plan to be back!

Yelp
I was in town for a Flames game, and this was the most convenient location I could find to the Saddledome. Also just a couple of blocks from the bus for the airport, or if you arrive by bus, it's an easy (free) train ride from the Red Arrow bus station. Never felt unsafe walking around alone here. Even though it was just me, they gave me the private room with enough room for 5 people, which was pretty nice. The breakfast is the usual cereal based option of a lot of hostels, so unless you're on a super tight budget, you'll probably want to get something elsewhere. There is a grocery store and a Tim Hortons just across the way, so you have some options nearby. That being said, outside of groceries, Tim Horton's, and the Saddledome, there isn't a lot right around here to do, so keep that in mind when booking.

Yelp
It's my first time here in Calgary and we had a good time staying at Hi-Calgary Hostel. The facility is nice, clean, modern design, spacious and very accessible to downtown area. The staff and crew are very friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend this hostel if you are planning to visit Calgary.

Yelp
I'll admit the location of this hostel does leave a little to be desired because right next door is an open green area and i did see some junkies shooting it up. I mean anywhere in the usa thats a place to avoid if you are not into that scene but canadian laws are more lax about the issue and i never ran into any problems while staying at this hostel. In fact its an easy walk to central downtown from this hostel and no problem when walking back late at night. Calgary is one of the larger metropolitan cities in alberta and downtown had a thriving nightlife, another reason was resting up before a daytrip to banff national park and then a long drive back across the border

Yelp
I've stayed here quite a few times over the years, and I generally have a good experience. It is a hostel, and in the dorm rooms, privacy is at a premium. But, I have found that people are usually pretty respectful, if only because they are in the same boat. If privacy is an issue for you then there are private rooms available. There was a flood in Calgary a few years ago so they had to renovate. I stayed in a private room last summer and I found it was nice and quiet. There are many travelers from around Canada, and the rest World, and meeting new people from all over is a highlight of my stays. I haven't traveled outside of the country yet, but staying in a hostel is probably the next best thing. The hostel is in a great location. 8th Ave is within walking distance so if you need something to do in the evenings then there are a ton of pubs, and bars nice and close. And, the nearest C train station is even closer. If you're traveling on a budget, or want a great cultural experience then you should definitely consider HI Calgary Center. I recommend it highly.

Yelp
Hostelling International's Calgary incarnation is a wooden building on the eastern edge of downtown Calgary. It has many of the usual amenities of HI Hostels, a games room, computers to use (and free wireless internet), a TV room and a fully-equipped kitchen. My experience there wasn't great though. The dorm rooms have 6 beds in them which makes for a very cramped atmosphere even by hostel standards, it was also one of the most uncomfortable beds I have slept in plus I was kept awake by people being noisy in the common room across the corridor (and the lack of action by the HI staff). You never expect luxury at a hostel but I was particularly disappointed by this one.

Yelp
After traveling Canada for more than 3 weeks and over 9,000 KM we were looking forward to fell asleep in cozy bed and not the car-seat or a tent. This hostel is clean, welcoming and it's close to the city center (max 5 min walk the C-Train or 10 min walking distance to the center itself). During the short time we stayed here, we were able meet a lot of great people. The rooms are clean and specious as well as the bathrooms (most important for me as a girl ;) ). Every morning we had a great breakfast with lots to choose from (for a hostel). First we had the feeling it is very expensive for a night, but looking back on all the things you can use and get, it's way worth the price. (for people with a car- parking is for free- yeah) Thanks to Jason and his great team, we were able to celebrate our very first Canadian Thanksgiving- it was a feast!! So, a big THANKS for making this stay unforgettable! def gonna come back!!! TIP: Calgary itself is not nice to look at (especially if you have been to Toronto, Vancouver etc.), but if you have the time to cross the river and go to Kensington- it's beautiful!! :)

Yelp
Took a risk staying here! The staff was very friendly, and the discounts that come with the membership are great. However, there were some sketchy characters hanging out downstairs (they weren't even guests, they came off the streets and the staff let them crash on the couches!!) Average group of young travelers, mostly foreigners, most were a good crowd, but some of them were pretty sketchy. Stayed in a 6-Bed dorm room in a mixed gender room, lucked out with two really nice couples in the room. Rooms were clean, the rest left something to be desired. I think this will be my first and only stay in a hostel! The location was nice, very close to downtown Calgary and the buses.

Yelp
I stayed here on April 18th it was great except for one fatal flaw a couple actually.. there is one client in the hostel the young guy wearing blue who was clearly disturbing the clients and staff with crazy talk misogynistic talk the staff felt intimidated I found or as they should have been more proactive in having him removed I thought. Also one of the staff members there obviously didn't want to work there by your attitude the Syrian woman. I would stay there again I just hope that there is better oversight from the management.
