Food: The burger is under-seasoned and needs condiments, and is dry. As someone who is gluten-free I got it without bread. So they are accommodating with that but don't have gluten-free bread. Service: the man who took out orders was quick and nice. He did make some mistakes, I ordered a Diet Pepsi (personal preference) and never got it. A few of us didn't get meal tags to pay so we had to talk to the cashier and tell them what we ordered. Atmosphere: It all takes place in your car or outside. The tables were not clean. And very warndown. There was only 1 server so I'll assume he was too busy with taking orders he didn't have time to quickly wipe down the tables.

Google
A MUST TRY..! Hi-D-Ho definitely has a style of it's own. The steak fingers, fries, and salad, were all very good. The staff were also very friendly. The only negative things were we wanted chicken fingers, but they were out of stock, and the trash can was over flowing, but I would still recommend this very cool old time drive in, and we will definitely eat there again the next time we are in Alamogordo.

Google
We had so much fun at this cute little drive in! We stopped here on 3/25/25 and opted to sit on the patio and eat instead of sitting in the car on such a nice day. It was the perfect place to eat before heading back to the hotel after a day at the sands! Give it a try!

Google
This place was quick and delicious. Waitresses were super nice and both the green chills cheeseburger and red enchiladas were awesome

Google
You know when folks tell you “you gotta try so and so…”? A lot of time reality doesn’t match the hype. Not so with Hi-Di-Ho! We are still pleasantly blown away!! Great food!!! Cool little burger joint vibe. Amazing staff and ownership. If you live here in Alamo or if you’re just passing’ through, make it a point to stop and enjoy a meal here. You’ll be glad you did!!!

Google
Great Place for better and cheaper fast food than any chain! Hamburgers are great and ice cream too. but fries are good but not crunchy like other palces. good vibes. HIGHLY recommend

Google
It's been yrs since I had a honest 2 goodness steak finger basket with gravy @ a real drive-in. This place is the epitome of good small town greasy spoon deep-fried goodness with all the usual faves reasonably priced compared 2 where I moved here from. We'll be back. P.S.: b sure 2 ask 4 extra salad dressing

Google
Burgers are delicious!! we went to White sand National Park and after we didn't know what to eat, we are glad we found this place a tip if you are in a hurry or just passing by, order ahead, I will upload a better quality pictures of the menu sorry for the glare...

Yelp
Maybe the best in NM. An exceptional burger that pushes the flavor envelope. Must stop during an Alamogordo visit.

Yelp
Came for late lunch, was still pretty packed. She came to our window and gave us menus then we ordered, tiger cub meal with cherry lime the drink was the best I've ever had. Truly fresh juice. And really fresh beef! Hub ordered mayton meal and was delish too! I'll definitely come back for the price and quality!

Yelp
The food was great. The place isn't looking like much, but the service and food more than made up for it.

Gary C.

Yelp
An excellent burger with many options. They have picnic tables if you do not want to eat in your car. A great but overlooked restaurant.

Yelp
Hamburgers were good, but then we went to the restroom in the back - it was not clean at all and even the entrance into the back was pretty disgusting. They need a deep cleaning in that back area I'm glad we had already eaten our burgers or else I'm not sure I would have eaten my food after going to the restroom.

Yelp
Popular burger joint that is known for the "Tiger Burger", a double patty burger. A friend had recommended this place and a friend and I came here after visiting White Sands National Park. You take a seat at the outdoor table (no indoor seating) or in your car, and someone comes out to take your order. Note that the food is made to order, so it does take about 20 minutes for your order to come out. Credit cards accepted. I wanted to like this place, but found the food to be a bit lacking. While the service was very friendly and polite, the burger patty was so dry and tasteless. The fries were underseasoned, though the texture was solid. I had the Mayton which came in Texas toast while my friend had the cheeseburger with green chiles added. This place is local and reasonably priced so hopefully the kitchen was just having an off day.

Yelp
When we pulled up we realized it was a "stay" in your car type eatery but they do have covered outdoor sitting. The server came to our van and took our order. They are spose to be famous for their burger. We did order the burger and it was good but if this is the best of the best in the state then I need to open a burger joint! We also had fries and onion rings. Not much really anything that stood out or to complain about either. Our server was friendly and efficient.
google avatar

Yelp
3.5 rounded to 4 Good casual spot to stop at after a day at White Sands. It's a drive-in, but there is plenty of covered outdoor seating as well. Someone will come by to take your order and bring out the food, and you pay at the register inside. I ordered the hamburger platter with green chiles added. I definitely recommend adding the green chiles since it gives it an extra flavor boost. The food is made to order and our wait was around 20 minutes. The burger was good, a little on the dry side, but the toppings helped round it out. The fries are just ok. Maybe I had high hopes for this place considering the reviews and because it was recommended to me, but I thought it was just an ok burger place.
google avatar

Harley S.

Yelp
Best burger I've had in a while. Service was fast and friendly. The vibe of the drive in was old timey and nice to take in. Would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Laura W.

Yelp
Came for the burger with some green chilies and it was so good! It's very rare when I want to eat a burger and I never had one with Texas toast, grilled pineapple and roasted green chilies! I came around 1:30 waited about an hour and they had plenty of warning signs letting you know that this isn't a fast food joint! They have car service, outdoor seating and call-in ordered. The location isn't very appeasing but it's a hamburger joint what did I except. Make sure you get the strawberry shake or else you will regret it! The service was great you can tell they work really hard! If you're looking for a unique but TASTY BURGER this is it!

Yelp
We had tried this place a couple of years ago, and I was not impressed with their Mexican food. I mean, they spell ¨chile¨, either ¨chilie¨or ¨chili¨, so that should give you an idea. This time, I was craving a fresh homestyle burger, so decided to give this place another try. I got the mushroom swiss burger, added bacon to it, and it was REALLY good! The bacon was decently thick, not the cheapo premade paper thin stuff. The fries were nice and crunchy, but were not salted and were the thick type of fries, so they were bland, and really dry and starchy. This is a DRIVE-IN. It's a 50s style drive-in (someone on here related it to an 80s drive-in... uhm... ok,... maybe that's a typo, because Drive-Ins started in the 50s, NOT the 80s, lol. For instance, Sonic Drive-In was started in 1953). And like a 50s style drive-in, you order from your car. We were there during the lunch hour, so it was pretty busy. It might've taken 30 mins for our food? NOTE: This is NOT fast food. They have signs all over the place that their food is NOT fast. Do not expect to get your food within 5 mins. It is cooked to order, they are very popular and VERY busy with both drive-in orders and phone orders (maybe call ahead of time, if time is an issue for you?). So expect a wait. We were expecting a wait, so this was no problem to us.

Yelp
We were recommended some other places from our hotel worker but when we were driving to those places we noticed a lot of cars here. It had old drive in vibes so we decided to pull in and give it a try. Being from out of town, we didn't know how to order. We walked inside the door and the server immediately handed us menus and said to have a seat outside and she would be with us shortly. She arrived promptly and took our order. We went for the burger combos. We got a hamburger and the Mayton burger and added green chilis. The food did take a bit to come out but the weather was nice so we just enjoyed our conversation and sitting outside. They brought the food to the table in paper bags along with our drinks. The fries were tasty and there were a lot of them. Wow! Yum. The burgers were great especially with that green chili. They were large and moist and for me that buttery Texas toast made it even better. Service was prompt and easy. Yes...we waited a bit longer than we are used to but that is just fine when you know they are making it all to order. It was a great find for our family and we will put it on our list when we travel through again.

Yelp
One of the locals recommended this place so I stopped by on the way out of town. The building looks like a sonic type set up where a waiter comes out to take your order. That wasn't the case. After a long wait I had to go in twice before someone came out to take my order. After that I waited an additional 15 minutes for my burger to arrive. I didn't mind because I figured they had to make everything fresh there. Boy was I wrong. When the food finally arrived the patties were cool, dry, and extremely over cooked. It clearly had been sitting under a heat lamp for a very long time. I took a few bites and then threw it back in the bag. The fries also were garbage and I couldn't eat those either. If I had more time I would've asked for a refund but just left disappointed instead since I had to get back on the road. Any of the national fast food spots would have been better than this.

Yelp
I can't speak to burgers but this place was pretty horrible for Mexican food. We ordered 3 separate dishes and all 3 were terrible. My husband was hungry but the burrito was so bad that he wouldn't finish it. I'm pretty sure my enchiladas were served in tomato paste. They took canned beans and called them refried beans. The flautas were probably from the frozen section of the grocery store.  Despite advertising as a fast food place, it took a long time to get our food, and there was no place to eat except outdoors where it was cold.
google avatar

Amy R.

Yelp
Not fantastic by any means, but good enough for what it is, cooked to order with nice attentive staff. Fries were (too) plentiful. Reasonably priced, and open late. Don't compare this to a nicer restaurant, but if you're going to have fast food, get a taste of local flavor!
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
We were hungry and decided to give it a try, and I'm so glad we did! The mushroom Swiss burger was delicious, the fresh limeade was very refreshing, and the burgers were perfectly cooked! They were busy and I can see why, very worth it, and worth the wait. The waitress was working her butt off and did a great job!
google avatar

Melissa T.

Yelp
We love Hi-D-ho! The food is made fresh to order and worth the wait. Try the Cherry Limeade! We have ordered several different things and they have all been great. The Salsa has great flavor and the fresh fried chips are so good!
google avatar

Myranda Lee S.

Yelp
This is a cute little drive in, we decided to eat in our car. The workers were so nice and the food was exactly as expected!

Yelp
Best burger in town. Small 80s looking drive thru more of a sonic experience sonic. Local great def recommend

Marcella F.

Yelp
My best friend and I love to go there for a lunch date earlier in the day. Go with the flow seating style. Best milkshake I have had in years and love extra chilis on the tiger burger. Service is friendly and fast. I appreciate that the fries are not overly salted.

Julie S.

Yelp
Very good burger. Even the kid's burger is large. Fries aren't the best but onion rings were awesome. Good slushy ice.

Eduardo R.

Yelp
Absolutely do not recommend this place due to the portions. First time eating at this facility, and I will not be going back. Ordered a chicken salad and ended up with a bowl full of quite the low grade vegetables (just a couple of sliced tomatoes and dry cabbage). To top it off there was an unacceptable amount of protein (chicken) in the CHICKEN salad. I'd say at best 2oz of chicken in my bowl. Definitely not worth $16 for a bowl of cabbage. No drink or sides included. I'm leaving two stars as the chicken was decent, but I cannot speak for the rest of the menu. Lesson learned, don't come here hoping to get full off their chicken salad.

Yelp
After a long morning of hiking (and sledding!) in White Sands, I was famished. I saw someone else's order nearby, and the burger was huge - it turns out it was the Regular Burger Meal. I had been thinking about getting the Tiger Burger (which is a double patty), but after seeing the other order, I knew a regular burger would be very filling. It was soooo good! Flavorful burger with the right amount of toppings that didn't overtake the burger, served on a toasted buttery bun. It was about as perfect as a burger gets. The fries were okay. They were warm but very underseasoned. The servers were so busy that after I asked for ketchup, I didn't have the heart to ask for salt and pepper, too. Unfortunately, they also forgot to bring me a straw and napkins, but that just incentived me to eat neatly! The meal came with a drink, and I chose lemonade. It was delicious - not too sweet and not too tart. The whole thing cost just over $13 - that's unheard of for such a yummy, filling meal.

Henry L.

Yelp
Service was on the slower end. There is basically no inside just tables outside. The inside is infested with flies so I am concerned with the cleanliness of the place. I ordered the tiger meal and boy was it big. That's all there is to it. Flavor wise it was nothing special. I requested crispy fries and could not tell the difference between normal fries. Size wise it's comparable to five guys but pales in comparison in flavor. If you want a simple burger like you'd find in a backyard cookout this is would the place to find it. The meal was pretty cheap so that's nice but I'd go somewhere else for a more flavorful experience.

Yelp
This is a really cool establishment. Sitting outdoors, patrons were enjoying their meals and then we rolled up., 17 of us rolled up on our bikes. We saw big eyes and then heavy movement!! It took awhile but when the food came out.........BERY GOOD. We'll, mine was. I chose tacos and most everyone else had burgers. They did look good! Smelled terrific! This your typical drive up burger joint but it appears family owned. Lots of shade to keep you out of the sun. Kids running it are doing a great job. Only complaint from some of our group, food took a really long time and didn't come out together, or close together. First people to get their meal finished when I got my order. 20 minutes later, the burgers started coming out. I was the last one to order. These are notes provided by those in attendance. Overall, it a great place to stop with really good food!!

Graylon P.

Yelp
Visited here on our visit to white sands NP. Great service and great food! Highly recommend this place when you visit the Park.

Yelp
Really enjoyed stopping at this local joint after a hike at nearby White Sands National Park. Food (burgers, fries, tots) was simple and delicious and the service was friendly.

Yelp
Omg. 30 years I've been visiting Ruidoso and 8 years I've owned and spend many months a year here and go into Alamo for movies and shopping. How how oh how have I missed Hi D Ho!!?? This y'all, was DELICIOUS!!!! We just crave this now. We no longer eat anything else unless it's steak at y'all's (which let's face it. This is more affordable!). It's really just that delicious!!

R R.

Yelp
Years ago this place was the best. I guess it is under a new owner or management. I don't know why they only show one "$" since it has gotten pricier and the amount of food you get is small. I don't mind paying a little more but I would like the portions to also be more. I ordered a regular burger with fries and a drink. There weren't many fries and the burger wasn't as juicy and tasty as I remember it. Disappointed. It was "meh" at best.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
There burgers are awesome but they never clean there chairs and patio and even my dog didn't want to sit on it. Please power wash it sometimes

Paul D.

Yelp
Way too expensive and over rated for what you get in this dump. The food is not that good and portions small for what you pay.
google avatar

Greg A.

Yelp
My mother came here in the 60's !!!! She introduced me to the Luigi Burger in 89!!! I brought MY son starting around 2005... And I am sure to get a Tiger Burger every time I'm in Alamogordo. It's always busy- and that really says all you need to know in a town that doesn't forgive bad service or food. I have NEVER had a bad burger here !!!
google avatar

Damian G.

Yelp
This is our first stop when we go back home! I get the green chile Tiger Burger with cherry limeade! Always delicious!
google avatar

Sonny S.

Yelp
Going to Alamogordo in a few weeks was told that they have good food So will let you know how it goes hopefully as good as my friends say it is
google avatar

Amy M.

Yelp
Visiting from out of state and we absolutely loved this place!! If you're looking for a place with homemade delicious burgers this is the spot!!Amazing burgers and friendly service!! I loved that the area is pet friendly! Such a nice place to have lunch! Great environment!
google avatar

Rhiannon H.

Yelp
Food was pretty good - but insanely greasy & heavy to eat. Fries are good. Service is a bit slow. I'd say it's worth stopping by and making an opinion for yourself - it's nice having local options vs the dozens of fast food joints in Alamogordo. Just a bit greasy/fatty for my tastes personally.
google avatar

Vanessa A.

Yelp
Do you want a dang good burger?! Just go and order anything I come here a couple times a month for a daaang good burger and the service is lovely
google avatar

Megan P.

Yelp
Quick &friendly car side or table side service. Food is delicious fresh and piping hot. Worth a stop if you want a burger that's not a chain restaurant.
google avatar

Roma M.

Yelp
Its an actual drive in! You can order from your car and eat outside. We hung out outside in their seating area until our food arrived. The fries were really good and so were the burgers. We also got their chocolate shake which was very rich! Great spot for amazing food near white sands national park
google avatar

Paul J.

Yelp
I like drive in burger joints. They remind me of my childhood. Typically, you can expect to get a super greasy, cheesy, frozen-pattied cheeseburger. Not here. Burgers are hand-pattied fresh beef burgers, and not was mine great. I built my own. I had a cheese burger with jalapeños, onions, and green Chili's. No sauce. It was very good. One thing I would change to make it 5 out of 5 stars: I'd ask that the onions, jalapeños, and chilled be grilled together. My bad. Mine were chopped and fresh, which was great, I really like my burger, but I think it would have been even better grilled. I also ordered chili cheese fries. I'm originally from California and chili cheese fries there means something totally different. What I got was good but a huge disappointment because it was not at all what I expected. When you are in New Mexico, chili cheese fries means cheese sauce and green chilis. In California, chili on the menu means seasoned meat with no beans. Oh well. What I got was good still, just a loss in translation because I had no idea that was the local custom. I know better for next time, and yes, I hope there is a next time when I'm in town again. Great local place - way better than any common burger chain burger. Recommend.
google avatar

Tim G.

Yelp
The food earns 5 stars.. While staying a few days in Alamogordo, we checked out reviews on several mom & pop burger joints. Although there was another option that reviewed higher, we chose Hi-D-Ho because it was closer and had only outside seating which worked for us since we had our 4 legged companion with us. The Tiger burger was huge and the milk shake was thick, fries and onion rings were fried perfectly. The only negative that could be said is the place isn't much to look at and no indoor seating is available.
google avatar

Travis F.

Yelp
I've never been here but my grandparents met here in 1958. They married in 1959. Unfortunately my grandpa died this year.
google avatar

Brittney R.

Yelp
Their burgers are HUGE!! It's a drive-in, but they also have covered outdoor seating. Quick service.

Layton S.

Yelp
Keep driving by! Overpriced, the wait is too long, and the food sucks. No really.

Terry T.

Yelp
Very good burgers. Friendly servers. Usually busy but worth the wait. The pineapple shake is thick and full of pineapple.
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place. I love little places like this, usually. My burger was just ok, my husbands came out missing stuff. Some of the order was forgotten about. The drinks were weird. Attention to detail and service need some help.
google avatar

Victoria P.

Yelp
MUST EAT AT HI-D-HO. Get a burger, shake, and fries. Service can be slow because they make the burgers fresh and there is usually only 1 server running from car to car and table to table. Sooo...HAVE PATIENCE. Because it is worth it. I forget how long this establishment has been in Alamogordo, but it's a place where locals and tourists alike go to grub. The view is beautiful, the food is delicious, and it's a part of the history of Alamogordo. So support the local business and eat here. [Get the Tiger Burger]. OH! Ignore the hours that are posted on Google - they are wrong. This place is open 7 days a week!
google avatar

Kellye F.

Yelp
Love this family-owned, locally-owned spot! Ate here many times even before I moved to town, any time we travelled through Alamogordo we'd eat at Hi-D-Ho. It just has that small-town, family business vibe that lets you know you're gonna get great service. Over a decade into living in Alamo, we still love to eat here. Food is consistently great, service is dedicated and thorough and prices are competitive. Always a treat!
google avatar

Brianna B.

Yelp
Thought we were going to a mom and pop type local drive in restaurant, since they say it's not fast food. I never mind waiting for a good tasting meal, but flavor was lacking on everything here unfortunately. I try to cut places slack during this virus stuff, however, giving us 4 packets of ketchup when we ordered 2 burgers, a hot dog, onion rings and 2 orders of fries, doesn't cut it. When we asked for more, we were told no. We asked if we could pay for more and she walked away. So there's that. I was really hoping for more from this place, left very unsatisfied.
