Comfortable and well-kept hostel with a fully equipped kitchen and modern bathrooms. Cafés and lunch options are not too far away. The staff and people were incredibly friendly and created such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It really reflects the Canadian spirit. A great base to explore Kananaskis!

When I am in the mountains, I would gladly sleep in a ditch if it means I can continue to breathe in the beauty of it all. Luckily for me, I don't have to. The HI Kananaskis Wilderness Hostel is not just a place to sleep, but a warm and surprisingly cozy and inviting space to be in. The amenities are not few, either. There is a lovely outdoor firepit where the like-minded mountain enjoyers of the hostel laugh and eat as a community. There are bathrooms and showers with towels provided. I slept in the men's dorm where there was a modest but perfectly suitable bunk bed with bedding provided(bring ear plugs and maybe an eye mask). There is also a full kitchen, a large fridge, laundry machines, and a comfortable lounge stocked with board games. As for the shining star here, Nancy(the hostel manager at the time) was one of the kindest humans you will ever meet. Not only was her company warm and kind, but she is very knowledgeable about the mountains themselves, as an avid hiker herself, her advice is wise and you would do well to consult her with your questions. Every interaction with her left me smarter or with a smile. If you can handle shared spaces, you will not regret your stay here. Thank you Nancy, I hope to be back soon!

Everything was exceptional, with a firepit available to sit around if desired (amazing!). Really nice staff and completely equipped. Wouldn't hesitate to come back again!

Pretty awesome spot with all the mountain views. A few trails not far. Staff was friendly and helpful. Cute cottage vibe. Very clean.

Don't go here! Bad bad! Tin ugly mountains eat your dreams and churn them into lizard kibble. Go away! Nothing to see here. No hospitality, no kind quirky guests skewing age upward (no Trail Master from Medicine Hat or Swami, no Randy or recently retired nurse awesome heart manager, no, none of that, go to Banff, on you go).||But if you must go... you'll know!

I can’t thank the staff at the hostel enough for their kindness and hospitality. After a very long day of cycling I arrived unplanned in the evening without a reservation. Since the man’s dorm was booked out I was allowed to pitch my tent besides the hostel, store my food safely inside and use the kitchen and amenities. All at no charge. You guys truly made my day! The hostel is a beautiful mountain retreat with the flair you would expect in a location like this. Highly recommend!
