We’ve stayed in several Canadian Hostels and dozens more across the world. Maybe it was a newly painted up stairs but definitely strong odour ( maybe not just paint- masking a “smoking” incident ) present. Warm day and room stifling, flippantly assured that ac had just been fixed and it wasn’t working because the window was open. No the AC was not working properly and the minuscule cold puffs from the vent inadequate as at midnight it was still high 20s. Only relief when window opened- with accompanying street noise. So not our best experience. Ladies toilet shower room- all in one room no cubicle- door did not lock. I felt (maybe wrongly) the staff thought we were just old whingers- but not akin to our past experience of hostels

Maybe don't stay in the middle of winter like we did? Generally the stay was alright - everything clean and quiet - but a few things were lacking. At check-in, the receptionist couldn't be more disinterested, didn't explain anything about the hostel and sort of waved in the general direction of our room. No music playing, no activities or brochures, nothing welcoming here. The biggest issue: bathroom renos were ongoing so only the men's washroom was available, which wasn't mentioned when booking on their web site. That bathroom had already been renovated... but the toilet cubicle does not lock easily, and the two shower stalls don't have any vestibule - which made it super awkward trying to dress afterwards without exposing myself to the rest of the common bathroom. Unfortunate design choice since the rest of the reno looks good.

Stayed here for 5 beautiful nights. Shes not as pretty as your other options around town but it exceeds in every other aspect. Friendly staff, clean rooms, CLEAN bathrooms! No curfew is dope. Location is perfect. Only thing that was weird was the smell? My room smelt strong and “jam-like?” but you’ll go nose blind after a few days! Will be back, loved the adventure.

Great little place if you are looking for just somewhere to rest your head. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of some of the higher end places but it's a great spot. The price is right and it's got all the basics you could need for a place to stay. They've got a great little community area and kitchen. Nice and close to lots of stuff. Not a very long walk to the event center either. Rooms were pristine and the staff was friendly and super accommodating to your needs. Just let them know in advance if you need a late arrival check in. We will definitely be staying here again when we come down for events.

The hostel has severe soundproofing issues. While in your room, you will hear people walking in the hallway, using the bathroom, trying for the hundredth time to lock the bathroom sliding door that is in fact, broken, as is the sink in the other bathroom. And I can’t even begin to describe how gross it is to have to use cutlery and plates washed by brushes and sponges that haven’t been changed for who knows how long. On the bright side, the location is great, the common areas are spacious and sufficiently clean, and the staff are friendly and helpful. And let’s face it, it is the most affordable option to stay in Penticton.

Overall good stay. Great staff helped with a possible situation with another client in same room. Overall I recommend Normally I don't do reviews but this deserves one. The staff deserve a high five for how they helped with my situation regarding one guest in room c named will or William. I was booked in originally for one night from Sept 7-8 After I checked In I went to my room which I noticed an extremely potent horrible scent of foot or body odor. Braving the scent and reminding myself I'm only here for one night I decided not to say anything about it. After trying to get a nap after being on the road for the last 8 hours on windy hwy 3 from fernie, I was abruptly woken up by "will/William" and his speakerphone conversation with his girlfriend. After he's settled he decides not to rest on his bed like any other human being. But to rest sideways back to the door IN FRONT OF THE DOOR! STILL TALKING TO SOME WOMAN ON SOEAKERPHONE! After an hour of this I decide to walk to a bar to do o some karaoke. Come back from karaoke around 1130 Sept 7 (office is closed ). Try opening door to room c. It stops opening just barely after the doorsill. About 1/4 the length of my foot. I look to see what's stopping it from opening and there's will on the floor again watching something on his phone and I can hear him mumbling as he's getting up. Still watching his phone for at least a good hour (didn't get to sleep til 1am and didn't want to say anything and start a scene as there was someone else sleeping) At 830 am Sept 8 (30 mins of listening to wills phone alarm and constant noises from Facebook messenger and typing noises from his phone I had enough) I went to the office and spoke to a woman to tell her everything going on and asked to be moved to a different dorm. I was eventually moved to dorm I. A fresher, quieter release from form c hell which I greatly appreciated. I ended up paying to stay for one more night at this point. I want to say thanks to the staff who helped me with this ordea

As a regular at hi hostels, every time I go to a new city I book with them directly due to the quality of service and the location of the hostel but this time I was really surprised not the attitude of the receptionist, the guy does the cleaning at 3 a.m. without respecting the customers, especially since the cleaning is not even done well, the worst part is that he starts a clothing machine at the same time, he shouts doors loudly and he plays annoying music on repeat. Honestly worst night of my life. So if you value your sleep avoid hi hostel penticton

A 3am check in was flawless - let them know in advance of the late arrival. Clean and quaint facility right in the heart of downtown. A great home base for the Okanagan Vinylfest I attended as a vendor. HI Staff were attentive and on top of their game. I shall return!
