I spent one night here during my trip to visit Takayama and Shirakawago. It was a great experience! The guesthouse is in a very convenient location, about 200 metres from Takayama Bus Station and about a 15-20 minute walk from all the main sights in the city. The owners of the guesthouse were very attentive, welcoming and friendly. They also gave me excellent advice on trying local onsen and izakaya. The accommodation was excellent. The facility is simple but has everything you need for a pleasant stay. I was sorry to only spend one night there.

Had a great solo stay here—super cozy, very clean, and only a short 3-minute walk from the Takayama bus terminal. Ideal base for solo travelers exploring the area.

Very nice guest house and the staff was absolutely outstanding. We really appreciated their help as we had some train issues to get there. And very good recommendations around the city. Thanks again!!!

Very close to the station (3mn). Lovely boss and family. If only the guests were as respectful as they should be. They do too much noise and start early morning or late night with laughing and talking especially a group of girls... but am not giving a bad note for that because it was not the boss's fault. Only problem is the shower, only one for all the guests so it is really hard to get a shower the morning...

I really like it here. It’s lovely, clean, and peaceful. The owner takes great care and is very attentive. I didn’t expect them to care about little details, like providing a hot water bag to keep warm under the blanket at night. They can communicate in English and offer tea and morning coffee for guests.

This guesthouse is clean and conveniently located near the JR station. The owner is incredibly friendly and provides helpful information for exploring the town. It’s the first place I’ve stayed where they even carried guests’ luggage, which was a thoughtful touch. A warm and welcoming experience overall!

Stayed for 2 nights in a female dorm. Beds were reasonably private, very spacious, and very comfortable. Bring earplugs because like most older Japanese buildings, the walls are very thin. The hostel is in a fantastic location very close to the station which gives great access for day trips to the wider Hida region. A short walk from the historic part of town and all the essential amenities are close walking distance away. Best thing about this hostel however is the staff and the atmosphere - it is very quiet but sociable. The staff were a great and helped us with our travel plans in the area and also made booking for us on tours and dinner reservations. Hostel has a great vibe that is social but not rowdy - met lots of really nice people there which we ended up going out for dinner and to the markets with. Fantastic stay - highly recommend!

We booked Guesthouse Tomaru in a short notice as our plan has forced to changed. Wasn't expecting much as we simply just need a place to stay a night. Fortunately we were very lucky to choose Tomaru. The owner spoke fantastic English and explained everything in a smart and easy way for us to understand. You have everything you need to stay here. The accommodation was so cute and full of character. All amenities provided there which included shampoo/conditioner are top quality compared to all other hotels we have stayed! I forgot to ask him what is the brand of the shampoo and conditioner? It made my her smooth like silk!
On top of everything, He's even provided us a local map with all the highlight area he recommended us to give it a go. And he was not wrong! What's a great start of our stay in Takayama with all these essential information provided. Couldn't thank him enough and also the 3 hot warmers for us to warm ourselves when we got there. 5 stars for sure!
