"Product Meets Pintxo Bar Hidalgo 56 is probably one of my top three pintxo bars in the entire city. With a bar stacked full of equally delicious pintxos, a menu of hot pintxos that is incredibly varied and delicious, and an attention to product that you simply don't find in other bars, Hidalgo 56 is worth a visit. Try the volcano of morcilla."

Delicious amazing “volcano “ dish, ask for it basically black pudding with raw egg, tasted incredible, highly recommend this dish, comes out hot. Very friendly place with helpful staff too. Recommended. + returned and tried the warm cod fish dish with crab. highly recommended. I don’t return to restaurants often here with so many new ones to try!

Exceptional food quality, taste is amazing, fresh and delightful. A must try if you are in San Sebastian. They cook everything in their own kitchen, run by a family, and using mainly from locals. Lovely people 😁

My favorite pintxo spot in the Gros neighborhood. If you’re tired of the inflated prices and throngs of tourists in the old town, head across the river and discover where the locals eat. The bar top pintxos are stunning and delicious but they have several chalkboards indicating their hot pintxos that are made to order - and these should not be missed. The family that owns and operates this bar is wonderful and helpful.

Small place with great food and excellent service. Very innovative pintxos. The dining area is a bit funny, you have to go in thru the kitchen and they use the same room as a storage area.

Great fresh pintxos for a late lunch or snack. Everything is made fresh and the staff is patient to explain what is offered on the bar as well as what can be ordered on the menu.

Hidalgo has very nice staff and modest ambience. It is small and dining area is shared with their pantry supplies. Excellent wine choices and varied menu. Sauces that accompany meals were disappointing. Meat, poultry and fish quality were excellent. They tended to be undercooked but were corrected.

Great pintxos from the bar and the kitchen and fantastic wine. I really don't understand the smoked cheesecake however . Everything on the plate is great apart from the cheesecake itself which has a pleasant smoky flavour but is rock solid, I couldn't cut into it without pieces jumpimg off the plate.

The bacalao had this cool crab and tomato sauce that was so yummy. Very tasty and great. A few tables out side, decent wine. What more do you want? Totally put this place on your pintxos night out.

Yelp
This is a good place to include on your pintxos crawl. Nice people, tasty food, what more could you want? Maybe a second cup of wine? The bacalao with crab was excellent! Love the bit of fried skin next to it. The croquettes were pretty standard but that is fine. The funny thing is we saw people here who we also saw at Arzak the night before. Sort of a funny small world sort of thing that makes me miss coming here already. Definitely a place to come back to.

Yelp
The selection of pinxtos were okay - they looked and tasted like they had been sitting there for a while. Maybe the racions would have lived up to the high expectations, but we didn't stick around to find out (kitchen opens again at 7pm).

Yelp
Our land lady recommended Hidalgo to us and I have to say possibly the best tapas we have had in San Sebastián. We came for lunch and had fab carpaccio, a black pudding volcano, which is roped with a warm egg yolk and tastes amazing. We came again for dinner and had the premium tapas, which has 10 luxury tapas from froigras lollipop to fantastic hot crab plus the most amazing salmon, which is indescribable but let's just say Heston blumenthale could learn a lot 10 out of 10

Yelp
This was the first stop on our somewhat rainy Saturday night pinxtos crawl. Lots of creative and delicious sounding options here, though I think the stuff here is more tapas sized than pinxto sized, so keep that in mind when ordering. We got the volcano, which is black pudding topped with an egg. This was a delightfully salty combination. The veal cheeks were a more standard preparation, served with mashed potatoes. The price was right, service was good, and they have a good selection of wines by the glass. I'd recommend this spot.

Yelp
We arrived in San Sebastian late friday night and wanted something to eat so we wandered around the area we were staying, only to find that most pintxos bars had already stopped serving food. Then we saw Hidalgo, bright with lights and noisy with people, so we went in and asked if we could get food. A quick yes and we sat down to look at the menu. They even have an English menu which was definitely very helpful as none of us spoke Spanish or Basque. The interior I have to say does not look fancy at all in fact it looks a bit ghetto with litter all over the floor (I guess that shows the popularity of the place if you think on the bright side as these are napkins left by customers throughout the night). We ordered three hot pintxos (which is the Basque verison of tapas) - tripe cooked in a ham sauce, foie gras cooked in an orange flavored sauce and ox cheek (forgive my crude translation). OOOO EMMMM GEEE - that was what I was saying in side after my first mouthful of the ox cheek, and each dish is better than the previous one. If ever you can experience a foodgasm as I saw another yelper's review, I have to say this is it. It is so good that we went back the following night. I finally googled it and found that the chef holds a michelin star when he opened the place. Sometimes I don't really trust the michelin guide but I guess I have to give it some credit because of this place. If you are in San Sebastian do cross the bridge to Gros (the less touristy business district), you will be amazed! And you get to avoid the hordes of tourists in the old town. We tried some of the pintxos bars in the old town which was jam packed with tourists but the quality of the food just cannot compare. This is no doubt food paradise!
