Though I'm currently very frustrated with Hideaway, I think it's only fair to give a balanced review. I've lived here for a year and I'm stuck here until August, and lots of it has been good.
I like the look of the apartment buildings, and the main area with the pool and study lounge is awesome. The rent price is also pretty great, even considering utility bills, and I do appreciate that there's free parking for residents. In my first year of leasing, the staff was very kind and helpful, and it made me feel very welcomed.
That being said, there's been a lot of issues since the start of living here that have grown more frustrating as I've realized that management isn't the most helpful. Most things were small, like dirty socks from the last tenant under my bed or having to buy a mattress cover because the one they gave me was just like a dorm matress and was super uncomfortable. Some things were more annoying; the wifi was generally terrible in 2024, and the building I live in is very externally dirty, but I was mostly fine with it. Last year, that's pretty much the only issues I had with them, so I resigned my lease. I even rated it 5 stars before and encouraged one of my friends to sign here, which I now feel pretty guilty about.
This year, things have started to get more and more frustrating. When our new random roommate was moving in, Hideaway sent in cleaners without informing us at all, and those cleaners left our door completely unlocked. My roommate came into the house to find it unlocked, with clear signs that someone had moved our things, and was understandably terrified. My friend that I encouraged to sign here had a huge cockroach problem in his apartment from the day of move in; he woke up once to find a cockroach crawling on him, and then Hideaway still took about three weeks to send someone to help him out. He seemed completely miserable about it! In fairness, I've only ever seen maybe one cockroach in my own apartment, but I was still appalled that they left his apartment in such an unlivable state. Probably most annoyingly of all, I've gotten an 85 dollar boot put on my car twice in the last week or so because my license plate expired. The first time it happened, I missed an exam review and ended up losing significant attendance points and my last chance to prepare for an exam. Turns out, my license plate wasn't expired at all, and my sticker was just taken from my car or fell off. Where am I supposed to put my car while I wait for the new sticker to deliver? Why have I been booted twice in the place where I live and nowhere else? I called Hideaway, and they told me that there was nothing they could do, even though I could get another 85 dollar fine at any time just for parking at my own apartment. I was sent a new sticker to confirm that it's not expired. Then, I got booted again, just because I don't have the sticker that's still being delivered! I understand that they have a contract with the towing company, but it feels like the towing company isn't doing anything anyhow -- my other friend, who has a reserved spot, has had her spot stolen before, and Hideaway told her they couldn't do anything. Meanwhile, I'm a resident paying my rent, and I'm getting fined nearly 200 dollars while parked in the place where I sleep and live.
Ultimately, I really don't think it's the worst place to live. The rent is cheap, and the public areas are clean, at least. That being said, I think it's one of those situations where you might not pay a lot of money upfront, but Hideaway will usually do the bare minimum and upcharge you where possible. I may be biased due to my current frustrations, but I don't think it's really worth it. If you're a student like me and you're still figuring out how to live on your own and be an adult, Hideaway won't be very helpful or generous, and they might even boot your car when your license plate gets taken.
