My wife and I stayed twice, bookending our Great Barrier Reef live-aboard trip with Divers Den (excellent, btw). We chose Hides for its history and its economy (we paid $88/night for a double). |We wouldn’t recommend it for very picky people, but if all you require is clean room, comfortable bed, functioning toilet and shower, it’s a good night’s stay. |The desk staff were very welcoming and helpful. |We had some minor issues. In our first room, none of the six USB outlets worked, and the a/c control did nothing to change temperature or fan. In our second room two of six USBs worked, which was adequate. The a/c also had no functioning controls that we could make out. But it was fine for our needs. |The location is central business district, close to innumerable restaurants, tattoo parlors, and massage parlors, about three blocks from the waterfront and two from the night market.

Room stinks. The shower can't adjust the temperature and the water pressure is bad. The TV doesn't work. Sound insulation is poor. No WiFi connection at all. The bathroom has no lock. Towels are dirty. The elevator has no closing button. Electrical outlets don't work. The bed would move itself. The fan makes a funny helicopter noise. No room cleaning service even when requested. The breakfast is barely acceptable, with very few food choices. The only good part about staying here is the supermarket across the street.

Don't go here, for your own good. You will hear anything and everything, the entire hotel has this weird semi-sweet smell that makes me nauseous there's constantly tons of homeless people right outside the door wich make tons of noise. And as a cherry on top someone decided drilling at 8 a.m was a good idea. It was not, we changed hotels within a day

Great location, rooms are rather dated. Balcony is lovely retreat during the day, u fortunately closed at night, it would have been nice to relax on the balcony on the warm balmy evenings.

Loved the location! Right in the heart of the pier experience. Easy access. Parking is a challenge but not impossible. Room was good. It was hard to get consistent water temperature though.

Don't believe the bad reviews and stay for yourself Could not have asked for better and what an awesome location. Yes night clubs all around but once inside the Hotel could not here a thing. Room is a little outdated but huge room, hot water, good bed to sleep on and not much more you need. Will stay there again without a problem.

The hotel is in a good location. Within walking distance of many places. |Age has left its mark, but the room was functional and clean. |My room faced the courtyard, so the sounds of the city did not reach my room. |The staff was friendly and helpful. |Although the breakfast was meager, it was a good start to the morning. |I might come back and visit here again if I make another trip here.

We stayed here for a week. There was some confusion with my name due to my mistake, but after some back-and-forth, we finally got it sorted! The hotel is right in the city center - I mean literally at the heart of everything. There's a big supermarket right across the street and the museum is just next door. Without a car, you've got everything you need within easy reach, and it's not even a long walk to the beach. That said, being in the center means it gets really loud - like, REALLY loud. The building's old and the windows don't seal properly, so you can clearly hear people laughing on the street below. Last night at 3 AM, someone was blasting music so loud it felt like we were at a club. I was seriously considering calling the police, it was that bad. Then my girlfriend said, 'Actually this song is pretty good,' and I joked, 'Should we go down and join the dance party?' And then... we somehow fell back asleep!

Yelp
Rooms were super dated. And often no one at the front desk for help but mainly came back to my room at the end of the day and housekeeping had left my room door unlocked and open. Not sure how that happens.

Yelp
Don't judge a book by its cover........ Perfect location Clare at the desk is an asset to this company The rooms were roomy, clean and great size. Great customer kitchen The only let down is housekeeping On the third day we finally got enough towels to accommodate the number of guests in the room On another day housekeeping told me the hotel had ran out of fresh towels so had to go to reception

Yelp
Foods really fresh and tasty, I had the Chicken sandwich which was not gigantic like the mega beef burger, but still filled me up just fine. I would recommend this place to my friends and want to come back to try their breakfast.
