To start off with the positives, the only reason this has got two stars is due to the excellent central location and staff friendliness. The state of the rooms were shockingly appalling for a supposed "3 star" hotel: the air conditioner is so ineffective that it basically does not work, towel outages for the majority of the time, lack of ventilation within the room, no real windows, weird and outdated shower control, lack of basic amenities, easily moving bed, neglected public atomsphere like the corridor acting as a sauna, elevator that feels unsafe, having to walk ages to the room even after taking the elevator, to just list a few. If it wasn't for the lack of competitors in the lower price range, I doubt that this hotel will stay in business.

Just got back from my stay at Hides hotel. Location was awesome. Beds were comfy. Slept well. Loved the verandah and sitting eating breaky on a morning and chatting to other hotel guests. It wasent luxury accomodation but as I was out all day sightseeing. It was a perfect place to come home to for a good rest. I would stay there again👍🏻

Not impressed but we start with the positives: the room was spacious, and the location was central. We arrived very late at night, to a homeless gentleman asleep in the supposedly locked lobby, where our keys were, and unlocked a room where it was questionable if cleaning had even taken place. Plenty of small black hairs dotted around the sheets and surfaces, and a stash of sheets in the corner, partially hidden but not folded, so that's a bit gross. The bathroom wasn't particularly clean, more hairs here in the sink and shower, and a confusing shower with the temperature controls barely reachable from the shower itself! Just weird, and irritating! How do you assess the temperature if you can't reach? A decent balcony area in the communal area to relax in the evening, with plenty of signs warning against smoking (big fines incur) but that didn't seem to stop anyone. Noisy rooms, thin walls, sound travelling way too much, and got woken by our neighbours returning for a shag at 3:30am. Just a disappointing stay worth warning others about. Wouldn't want to stay here again.

The stay was good, the room was neat, tidy and clean. Good value for the price paid. Although one of the oldest buildings and hotels in the region, it is maintained, while it is for an upgrade to be able to compete with the larger chains. But, that been said, there is a certain charm to the hotel and it's heritage, which it proudly displays. The staff are friendly and helpful, thank you 🙂. Definitely a budget friendly hotel, and very well located. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good place for a decent nights rest.

This hotel is subpar. We have no idea whether or not the rooms are nice or the ac satisfactory or breakfast enjoyable. We never got past the front lobby. Arriving directly from the airport fully loaded and tired from a full day of traveling with two layovers we met a locked door at 9:30 pm on a Wednesday. On the door was a sign indicating that reception closed at 11:30. We rang the bell and knocked but nothing. Eventually a returning resident let us in and we saw the sign apologizing for an early closure of the reception desk. We called all three posted phone numbers for the hotel two of which were advertised as 24/7. One was disconnected and the other two didnt answer. We walked through the rain to another hotel. Returning a couple days later we requested a refund. Reception informed us we had been sent an email at 9pm Wednesday directing us how to retrieve a key from the lockbox. We asked for and received a copy of the email. Pointing out to the receptionist that the email address was quite different from mine he apologized but said that because an email was sent (somewhere) there would be no refund. I cannot see how this service can be considered anything less than absolute crap and our credit card company agreed when reversing the charges.

I don't think I've ever really complained about a hotel room before but if it wasn't for the location I would have just left and went somewhere else. Dirty stained towels, lots of mould on the shower curtain, stained cover on the bed, and the beds+pillows are rock hard. The walls are thin and you here doors slamming from all around the hallway because of how they close Location is fantastic, but to be honest, I would debate staying here again because of the cleanliness issues kinda made me wonder what else in this room isn't cleaned when the items that are easy to notice are dirty. The front desk workers were fine, but I put 1 star for service as I'd lump cleaning in with that. I would only consider staying here if you are on a really tight budget and don't want to walk far in the heat to get to the heart of town.

Interesting part of Cairns history. The staff were helpful and the location is good. However basic maintenance is lacking. Parts of bathroom were covered in obvious thick mold, and aircon barely output any cold air. With a bit of love it would be a very optimal stay.

Stayed for 1 night on a Saturday. Check in was easy and reception staff friendly. Room wasn't very clean, dirty windows, very dusty, no water pressure in shower, no mattress protector with very thin sheets that had stains, blood smeared on back of bathroom door. Had other guests banging on my door at 4am. Would not recommend for elderly people as it's mainly for the younger ones

Yelp
Rooms were super dated. And often no one at the front desk for help but mainly came back to my room at the end of the day and housekeeping had left my room door unlocked and open. Not sure how that happens.

Yelp
Don't judge a book by its cover........ Perfect location Clare at the desk is an asset to this company The rooms were roomy, clean and great size. Great customer kitchen The only let down is housekeeping On the third day we finally got enough towels to accommodate the number of guests in the room On another day housekeeping told me the hotel had ran out of fresh towels so had to go to reception

Yelp
Foods really fresh and tasty, I had the Chicken sandwich which was not gigantic like the mega beef burger, but still filled me up just fine. I would recommend this place to my friends and want to come back to try their breakfast.
