To start off with the positives, the only reason this has got two stars is due to the excellent central location and staff friendliness. The state of the rooms were shockingly appalling for a supposed "3 star" hotel: the air conditioner is so ineffective that it basically does not work, towel outages for the majority of the time, lack of ventilation within the room, no real windows, weird and outdated shower control, lack of basic amenities, easily moving bed, neglected public atomsphere like the corridor acting as a sauna, elevator that feels unsafe, having to walk ages to the room even after taking the elevator, to just list a few. If it wasn't for the lack of competitors in the lower price range, I doubt that this hotel will stay in business.

The stay was good, the room was neat, tidy and clean. Good value for the price paid. Although one of the oldest buildings and hotels in the region, it is maintained, while it is for an upgrade to be able to compete with the larger chains. But, that been said, there is a certain charm to the hotel and it's heritage, which it proudly displays. The staff are friendly and helpful, thank you 🙂. Definitely a budget friendly hotel, and very well located. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good place for a decent nights rest.

Interesting part of Cairns history. The staff were helpful and the location is good. However basic maintenance is lacking. Parts of bathroom were covered in obvious thick mold, and aircon barely output any cold air. With a bit of love it would be a very optimal stay.

Stayed for 1 night on a Saturday. Check in was easy and reception staff friendly. Room wasn't very clean, dirty windows, very dusty, no water pressure in shower, no mattress protector with very thin sheets that had stains, blood smeared on back of bathroom door. Had other guests banging on my door at 4am. Would not recommend for elderly people as it's mainly for the younger ones

Just got back from my stay at Hides hotel. Location was awesome. Beds were comfy. Slept well. Loved the verandah and sitting eating breaky on a morning and chatting to other hotel guests. It wasent luxury accomodation but as I was out all day sightseeing. It was a perfect place to come home to for a good rest. I would stay there again👍🏻

The hotel is very tired and needs a lot of work. I wasn’t expecting anything fancy but I do want clean. Well this place especially the bathroom was dirty. Mouldy shower curtain and built up grime in the shower and the basin. The hot water was very hit and miss. They apologised and supposedly cleaned the room. The shower curtain was replaced but nothing else cleaned properly. During this housekeeping edit the tv remote went missing and they could not replace it?? They only make up the rooms every 4 days?? Also if you loose the key which is an ordinary house key they charge $100. The only good thing was the location very central. I would not recommend this property

The trick when having a shower is to hit that fraction of millimetre turn of the cold tap which takes the shower from boiling or freezing to warm. It is a skill which requires hours of practice and even then results are not guaranteed. As the taps are outside the shower cubicle, you stand with one hand under the water and one hand on the tap and feel the temperature. After some time you can feel a change (because the taps are a long way from the shower head it takes awhile for the change to become apparent). Then just when you’ve gotten it right and step under the water someone two doors down turns on a tap and you have to start all over again. This is a very run down hotel, I assume they are running it into the ground before doing a complete refurbishment, hardly anything works, there are chips, cracks, patches and evidence of cursory cleaning everywhere. Most of the hotel is not in the historic building. A two story motel type building has been built at the back of the hotel and that is where most of the rooms are. That said the staff are helpful and the location is great. Pictures are of the corridor and the view from our room.

I arrived at Hides Hotel Cairns and was shocked at the state of the rooms. I found blood-like stains on the mattress, black mould inside the air-conditioning unit, stained curtains, sticky furniture, and no way to ventilate the room because the windows don’t open. When I asked for a refund, reception only offered to move me to another room, which had the same issues – mould in the AC and general uncleanliness. No apology, no professionalism, and no genuine attempt to resolve the situation. To make matters worse, this hotel is located two doors down from a gentlemen’s club. As a young female travelling alone, I felt extremely unsafe. I was also told of another recent incident where staff announced a woman’s room number out loud, after which men were knocking on her door all night. That is a shocking breach of guest privacy and security. The hotel looks nothing like the photos online – it’s completely misleading. This was an unhygienic, unsafe environment that should never be sold as accommodation. If you value your health, safety, and peace of mind, do yourself a favour and stay elsewhere. This place should be investigated under Australian Consumer Law for misrepresentation and unsafe conditions.

Rooms were super dated. And often no one at the front desk for help but mainly came back to my room at the end of the day and housekeeping had left my room door unlocked and open. Not sure how that happens.

Great customer kitchen The only let down is housekeeping On the third day we finally got enough towels to accommodate the number of guests in the room On another day housekeeping told me the hotel had ran out of fresh towels so had to go to reception

Foods really fresh and tasty, I had the Chicken sandwich which was not gigantic like the mega beef burger, but still filled me up just fine. I would recommend this place to my friends and want to come back to try their breakfast.
