My trip to High Country Salmon in Twizel was an absolute highlight of my time in New Zealand! It wasn't just about the delicious salmon (though that was incredible), it was the whole experience.
First off, the location itself is stunning. Picture this: crystal-clear turquoise waters fed by glaciers, surrounded by the dramatic mountains of the Mackenzie Country. It's like something out of a movie.
We started by checking out the salmon farm. It was fascinating to learn about their sustainable practices and how they raise their salmon in the pristine glacial waters. You can really tell they care about quality and the environment.
Of course, the main event was the food! We had lunch at Logan's, their floating cafe. Talk about a view! Sitting right on the water, surrounded by that scenery, was just magical. And the salmon? Oh my goodness. So fresh, so flavorful. I had the salmon sashimi and it literally melted in my mouth. My partner went for the classic fish and chips and said it was the best they'd ever had.
After lunch, we couldn't resist trying our hand at catching our own salmon. It was so much fun! We didn't have any luck, but the excitement and the laughs were worth it. Plus, you can buy fresh or smoked salmon from their shop to take home, so we didn't leave empty-handed.
High Country Salmon is definitely a must-do if you're in the Twizel area. It's a unique and unforgettable experience, with delicious food, stunning scenery, and friendly people. I can't wait to go back!
