High Country Salmon

High Country Salmon is absolutely worth the 1 hour and 30-minute drive from Queenstown! The salmon truly melts in your mouth, fresh, buttery, and not overly fishy at all. You can really taste the quality. There’s a wide variety of menu options, from fresh to smoked salmon, and it’s a paradise for sushi and sashimi lovers. Everything we tried was beautifully prepared and incredibly satisfying. The place itself is clean, spacious, and well set up with plenty of tables both indoors and outdoors. Free parking is a big bonus, and the staff were very accommodating and friendly. Suitable for any group, families, friends, or even solo food trips. Highly recommended and definitely a must-visit when you’re in the area!

We had a fantastic experience at the salmon farm and were genuinely impressed by both the food and the overall visit. The sashimi and sushi were exceptionally fresh—easily some of the freshest we’ve ever had. You can truly taste the quality of the salmon in every bite. The menu offers a great mix of freshly pre-made options and à la carte dishes, which is especially convenient during peak times when the farm is busy with visitors. Everything was well prepared and perfect for enjoying on the spot. One of the highlights of our visit was watching the salmon feeding. It was interesting and fun to see the salmon up close and learn more about the farm, which made the experience more than just a meal. As expected, the place can get crowded with tourists, but the staff were quick, efficient, and well organized. Even with the crowds, we managed to find seating without too much trouble. Overall, it’s a wonderful place to experience incredibly fresh salmon, enjoy a unique farm setting, and have a memorable dining experience. Definitely worth a visit.

This place is really famous for salmon, but I’m not actually a big fan of salmon sashimi. Still, I felt like I would regret it if I didn’t try it. I was genuinely surprised — the salmon was very firm, chewy, and had absolutely no fishy taste at all. There were quite a few different types of salmon, and the prices were reasonable. However, since we are a family of five, it ended up costing over $100 to feed everyone. Even so, I don’t regret it. It’s widely recommended as a must-visit spot when traveling to the South Island, and it also shows up as a “must-go” place on Google. That said, I don’t think I would visit again personally.

Came here during holiday, and the food was so good we went twice! Milky/creamy salmon, great and patient staff, even the mocha was nice. Rmb that the kitchen opens at 11.30 so only sashimi and breakfast foods b4 that

Salmon lovers, welcome! We had a wonderful experience stopping by here on our way to Christchurch. Fresh, friendly, and fantastic are the best words to describe what they offer, and you’ll find these qualities in most of their dishes. My family ordered the salmon kebab and sushi, and our expectations for such an amazing fish were exceeded on another level. It was so fantastic that we had to stop by their store and take some of their fresh fish home for dinner. My dinner, though not as visually appealing (apologies, I’m not a good cook), still pleased my stomach with its fabulous taste and juicy meat.

Great place to stop, break the drive, eat or drink. Delicious food and drink options served with a smile. We participated in the Talk and taste with Duncan today ($30/pp) and learnt about salmon farming, how to fillet a salmon and then consumed delicious sashimi ! yummy. you can also purchase produce and the ice pack it for your ongoing journey home. Just lovely ! PS Probably more toilets would be great

An absolute must visit! I am glad I came here. There is a sashimi and smoked salmon section with other goods like tea pots, souvenirs and then there is a cafe which overlooks the salmon farm. They have sashimi that tastes buttery and rich and smoked salmon with various flavours (really liked it). Inside the cafe they also serve sushi. If you go outside on the deck there are pellets that you can feed the young salmon. Overall, very pleasant experience. Staff were friendly and helpful. Thank you to the young lady in the fish shop and deli, you were helpful and also thank you to the tall young guy in the cafe.

Decent salmon spot near Lake Pukaki. We tried a variety of salmon dishes, including salmon skewers, sushi, and sashimi. The sashimi was definitely the standout. It was fresh and with no fishy smell at all. The sushi was enjoyable as well. Unfortunately, the salmon skewers were a letdown, as they turned out quite dry. Overall, it’s a good place to stop if you’re in the area, especially for the fresh sashimi
