High Point Barbershop & Shave Parlor

They tried to make me book a 45 minute hair cut for a simple trim. I was confused as to why they would do that until I realized it was more than $15 extra. When I told them it would not take 45 minutes to simply trim my hair they said, “it’s their policy”. I am a returning costumer and was greatly disappointed by this blatant scheme to exploit their working class customers. Do not support businesses that do not support their community!

I’ve been going to High Point for years now and I’ve never had a single complaint. Patrick and the rest of the staff are awesome - experts at their craft and genuine people that take pride in their level of service. Thanks High Point!

An amazing barbershop and definitely worth the price, no matter the location, the barbers are always down to earth, and do an amazing job with what you ask for.

Chris Curry, one of the barbers there is extremely gifted. The atmosphere was friendly, courteous and professional. Their clientele varies from young, middle age and older. Clients are from all ethnic backgrounds. So, they have the ability, to do any type of hair. It was very clean. They had restrooms, even for their clients to use( not "just" for employees). They even had freshly made coffee. Tasty too! They really made us feel, like they were really appreciative of our patriotism.

They are very professional and take their time to cut your hair. If you are looking for a professional barber or want a higher quality cut this is the spot.

As a happy customer who has visited all the High Point Barber locations, I've always considered this one of the best places in town for a haircut. Until now, my experiences have been consistently great, which makes this situation even more disappointing. The issue arose when I tried to book an appointment at a location I hadn't visited in 2 haircuts (was at another High Point Location for those haircuts). Despite being a current customer of High Point Barber, I was told I needed to book as a new client for this particular barber. This policy wasn't clearly communicated on their website, nor had I encountered it in my previous visits to other locations. When I expressed confusion about this policy via text, saying, "This is the first time I am hearing about this," it was apparently interpreted as combative. This wasn't my intention at all - I was genuinely surprised by what seemed like a new requirement. What's most frustrating is how the situation was handled. Instead of working with me to find a solution, such as asking if I could adjust my appointment time by 15 minutes, they simply canceled my booking and insisted I rebook as a new client. This rigid approach seems at odds with the excellent customer service I've come to expect from High Point Barber. One of the main reasons I've been a loyal customer is the consistently high quality across all barbers. The idea that I need to book as a new client each time I try a different barber contradicts the very benefit of choosing High Point Barber - that all their barbers are skilled professionals. Inconsistent Policy Application: After reviewing the website and conversations with staff at multiple locations, I've found no clear indication that booking as a new client is required for every barber within the High Point organization. In fact, staff at other locations have stated that "new customer" status only applies to first-time High Point clients. I enjoy the vibe of this place ... Great haircuts too

I have to say, my experience with High Point was absolutely fabulous. I'm new to RVA, and hadn't gotten a haircut in probably five months. I keep it pretty shaggy, generally, and needed a haircut asap. Called in, and got an appointment with an apprentice -- Van -- about three days later. Van was fabulous. I told him exactly what I wanted, how I liked my hair, and showed him a couple of pics. "I got you" and went to work. He was methodical, professional, and kind. My haircut was exactly what I wanted, and then some. I know he's an apprentice right now, but I'll be booking with Van from now on. 10/10! Also, the atmosphere was great. Front desk staff was very friendly, music was mid-2000s alternative, and in general, everyone seemed like they were having a good time. Check them out, and request an appointment with my man Van!

My review comes twofold, looking at both the cut and the service. So let's break down the experience - Location: This shop sits right behind the gelati celesti ice cream shop building block. Make sure to drive behind the building, and there is ample parking. The doors to the barbershop are located directly behind, and you can walk thru the garage door or main door. Service: This is what caused me to bring down the score only because the day I made the call to reserve, I was informed my appointment was at 11 am. When I arrived 20 minutes early, a staff member said they were on break and that I needed to come in at 11:30 am. A little confused, I obliged and came back. Afterward, I went to check in for myself and my partner, whom we were going to get haircuts back to back. I would go first since I was doing a cut and beard trim package, and my partner was just getting a cut. I was greeted by a staff member, and they escorted me to the chair to get my cut. It wasn't until my haircut was nearing the end that I was told that my partner couldn't get their haircut because the barber didn't have time in their schedule. The barber told me that they knew that it was two appointments, but they were scheduled for only one. I even gave them our names at the initial booking to ensure that they knew it was for two people. I spoke to the receptionist who tried to profusely apologize, but I was upset because I was told to come at 11 am, turned away upon arrival, and told me to come back 30 minutes later. Then they told me there was no way to accommodate that extra haircut. That I needed to come back a different day! I told them I drove two hours already just to get to the shop and arrived early to be there because I was informed I would have both services done. I was also told by my partner that after getting in the car, they told them that they would not have an appointment with them and that they would have to come back. At that point, they were upset as well. This was a poor way to handle the situation, whereas I felt like having a different shop offered for the cut or scheduled later that day would have been fine. But I felt a lack of care and sympathy on my end like it was my problem. I did reach out to the shop separately on this issue, and there was no reply. Barber: The barber who did my cut was jovial, polite, and really made for a good conversation throughout the cut. The cut was done quite well and was nice Interior: Plenty of seating, well lit, but it can get loud based on the cross talk between customers and staff if that's an issue. They have a coffee bar in the back but looked like it was closed because it was dark. I had to ask about it as it was not offered. Overall: All in all, I had such high hopes that this would be a great way to start my anniversary weekend, but it was "cut" short due to the lack of service.

Yikes! Okay, yeah the customer service is awful at this location as several others have mentioned. I wish I had paid attention and taken those reviews seriously. Please be careful with the booking system this place uses. I recommend calling before you go to double and possibly triple check the details of your appointment.

The service at this barbershop is the best I have personally experienced. They always run on time which is hard to find in many shops. The barbers really know what they are doing. I have longer hair which typically doesn't fall into the barber realm but they are able to do exactly what I want all I have to do is show them a picture and they make it happen. The atmosphere is great very clean and well lit. With almost an old timey aesthetic with the artwork and tiling

Rashod was the best. Been struggling to find a barber since moving here and he nailed it. Listened to what I wanted and dud an amazing job. Highly recommended

This place was great 9 years ago. David would always do an awesome job. Always left satisfied. But as the years went by I got passed to different barbers. I get it, it gets busy and the new guys need experience. But everything has gone downhill. Y'all messed me up for the last time. I could've given my 6 year old some scissors and he probably would've done a better job. Barber I had was seemingly very friendly but I don't know if the guy just wanted to mess me up on purpose or if he REALLY thought I'd look good by cutting my mustache to make me look like a koi fish. I had been growing it for 4 months. Told him just to cut the strays and line up the bottom so the hairs aren't in my mouth. So he decided to chop it off and left the ends long. What I wanted was Kurt Russel in Tombstone but what I got was Mushu from Mulan. 50 bucks down the drain. I know you guys get tons of business so I imagine you won't care about this review. So....thanks David for the good experiences.

High point needs to work on their customer service. It's fine. There are way better shops in RVA. Please consider choosing another barber that has way better customer service.

Recently moved to RVA and hate finding a new barber because I have always been very particulate when it comes to who cuts my hair. Everyone at the front desk has always been very friendly helpful. Shawn (hope I spelled it the right way.) has done a phenomenal job both times I have been in. He nailed exactly what I was looking for right of the bat. He has a real attention to detail and takes the time to do it right. Can not recommend strongly enough.

My husband has been getting his hair cut here, and they do SUCH a good job. I had found them on Yelp and usually it takes a few tries to find a great barbershop, but they were super friendly, quick to get us an appointment, following all of the necessary covid safety precautions, and my hubby came back home with a super fine looking head of hair! :) The barber he's visited is named Elliot, and he's great! Highly recommend.

My husband used to get his haircuts here! One bad experience with one of the guys but we had a dinner to go to and we scored a last minute spot with the Apprentice over at the Three Chopt location and though it took a while the experience was Top Notch! So, I have convinced him to keep going back!

Now I'm not the coolest guy, so I was a bit unsure when I heard "this is where the cool people get their cut". Thankfully this shop was great. I got a same day appointment and got my hair cut alongside some grandpa's, children, and guys with cool tats. I will certainly be back!

Just arrived for my second beard trim with Chris. Great guy, great atmosphere, etc. Don't know how long I'll keep the beard, but this is where I'll keep it looking the best!

Not a bad shop but I depends on the barber and what style hair you have. They all not matches in skill set. Some can't cut African American hair and some can and Vise versa with caucasians. I don't mind going again but not the same barber I went to last time.

If you don't get your hair cut here, you deserve to have your head look jacked up. You can thank me later

I have been going here for about three years. (Of course, I went to the location on Meadow before this one). I have sat with many barbers over the years, with Foster being my first consistent barber, then I moved to Chris Curry. Both of these barbers are stellar men and barbers. My hair always looks fantastic and I always have a great time in the Shop. There's nothing like stepping into this place with hardcore music playing and the smell of shaving creme floating towards you as multiple barbers say "what's up?" And ask you how you've been, calling you by name, of course. I love this place, and even though I now live in Newport News, I come to Richmond to get my hair cut by Chris. Great atmosphere. Great staff. Great talent. Great time.

My freshman home for Fall break - time for a haircut! First visit to the highly recommended High Point! Great atmosphere, friendly staff, really clean - oh ....and a great cut! What more could you ask for ? Chris did a really thorough job. My son has a ton of thick hair - and over the years I've seen many barbers try to rush through it and get frustrated. I'll definitely be bringing all of my boys back.

I've heard a lot of good things about high point from a lot of business associates as well as strangers I've stopped to ask where they got their hair cut. So of course there was a lot of anticipation to go there but since I'm in chesterfield and don't spend a lot of time in the city it took me a while to make it happen. Finally last week the stars aligned and i was able to go and took my son with me. We both got haircuts by Aldo and both of us are very happy with the haircuts and both of us have gotten many compliments. The environment inside the shop is filled with hilarious banter. They give awesome hair cuts. I will be returning sooner than later. 10/10 would recommend.

Only place I go now. Had been searching my entire life for consistently good haircut and High Point is that place. Also the people who work there are awesome!

High Point cuts great hair..and beards. If I had more hair, I'd go way more often. Listen to some cool tunes while all the barbers talk about city gossip and their salad topping choices at Chopt. Mmm, makes me want to try some. If I had a wig, I'd get it smoked here for sure. Can't wait to go back

I tried to give this place a chance and went for it. What I encounter it's pretentious barbers and arrogant. My haircut was horrendous. No customer attention at all. Never again!!!!

Everyone here is great at cutting hair. Cool vibes, good music, great atmosphere. I've been getting my haircut here since they opened. Awesome old school barber decor. These guys know what they're doing.

This place is super cool!! The atmosphere was on point, everyone was real chill. Haircut was done right!! I wish there was more experience when it came to my beard. It looked good in the chair, but when I was able to look at it more closely, I had a to take another 1.5" or so off one side and continue to try and shape it. I'm all about someone learning to do great things, I just wish I had the option of experience up front.

This is a legit barbershop with people that care about how you feel about yourself at the end of your cut. Your going to need to make an appointment. They're busy and popular. The appointments make sure when they tell you 2pm, it means you're going to sit down at 2 to get your cut. This ain't a dentist's office, they run like a well oiled machine. They take same day appointments, but you still need to call. Don't expect to walk in and get a cut. These folks will hook you up with a great cut and experience. If you're worried about the background music or that you don't get a beer when you walk in, you're not looking for a good cut, you want to be catered to instead of mutual respect. You should probably go ahead and check-in online for that SportClips cut and walk out wishing they didn't cut it too short or why you have a patch of hair longer on the top than all the rest.

High Point is in a category of barbershops above and beyond their competition. Their attention to detail, from their cuts, to their merchandise, to the decor in both of their shops, illustrate the care and attention they show to each and every one of their clients. I have been lucky to have a standing appointment with Jacky Flav since the day they opened in 2014, because I go to the shop for more than a haircut, I go for an experience. Bar none, best barbershop in Richmond year after year!

The best in the biz. Always a good vibe in the shop with the staff and clientele. Great price for the quality. Bobby always gets me right, check him out!

New shop is super nice, very customer friendly. Love having the coffee that they offer and love the free wi-fi so I can surf the web while waiting for my appointment. The reality is that even without the amenities Foster gives the best cut I have ever had. Great experience each and every time I go. Love the new scheduling system and love that my appointments are pre-scheduled over the next year.

Took my very picky 11 year old here a few weeks ago, and he said Chris gave him his best haircut ever. Cool place and very nice that there's parking! Update: now my husband is a loyal customer too. He said it was such a cool place!
