Okay look. So like a month or so ago I was down in Richmond for work. I need a haircut, skim some reviews, check some websites and decide I need to give this place a shot. I call, and my fear was that I wouldn't be able to get in. But they hooked me up with a cancelation spot and I got in to see Corey.
The cut was perfect. He talked through what I liked, asked some questions, and I showed him a picture of a recent cut and he said he's make it look better, and he did.
By far the coolest part was the vibe of this shop. The dudes in there are all great barbers, but this place had a classic boy's club feel to it that made me feel like I belonged even though I'd never been there. The music is loud and rocking, in my time we switched from metal to classic rock to a little bit of something I'd never heard. The barbers were all paying close attention to their clients, but the conversation just flowed. So to set the scene, in one chair was a gay guy whose boyfriend sent him in to get a haircut. Dude is ripping on his own boyfriend the whole time and everyone is laughing along. Next to him was a corporate looking type clean cut guy, who rolls up his sleeves at some point to reveal one of the coolest tattoo sleeves I've ever seen, while he talks about his recent trip to Patagonia. Next to him is a Catholic priest, who got into a heated argument defending the merits of Chance the Rapper as an artist, while talking shit to one of the other barbers for not being able to land a wife. If that priest was in my Church, it might actually get be back to mass. When have you ever gotten a haircut where a priest is cussing out the barber and laughing right along with everyone? Next to the priest was a guy who plays in some metal band and I'm pretty sure was going to confession to the priest in the parking lot when I was leaving.
If you make an appointment, be sure to show. No call, no show gets you a public shaming by wearing a sign that says your transgression for all to see.
What I'm saying is that this place has a vibe that's insane. In a world where the whole world is divided this shop finds that perfect place where dudes can just hang out, no fighting, just good times, and the diversity of the barbers and the clients was so cool I might just drive down to Richmond to get my hair cut from now on.
