My hotel stay at Highbridge Hotel was ok. The room was exactly as described. It was clean and warm. My travel dates was right after a mild snow storm and the weather was still very brisk. The street in front of the hotel was shoveled. It's walking distance from the 4 line and there's numerous stores and restaurants nearby. I decided to order from a Dominican restaurant my first night. Postmates said it was 1.4 miles away but I forgot nyc miles aren't the same as country miles. That same distance is about a 10 minute drive in Texas but it took about 30-40 minutes from Bruckner Blvd due to traffic.
But back to the hotel, i stayed in room 214 which faced the front, it wasn't as loud as I thought it would be. That evening I had tickets to Cursed Son, took a $97 Uber down to the city and then surge prices set in so it was over 100 to come back. It was about 11pm and you must use your key card to enter, no one will open the doors for you. My daughter asked front desk for a comforter which they accommodated.
In the room as we prepared for bed, my daughter saw a roach crawling first by the wall and then on the headboard of her bed. I killed it with a slipper but my daughter was freaked and wanted out immediately. Since I booked through Expedia, I called them to handle the situation. They called the hotel on my behalf and came back and told me that I had to wait until 9am to speak to a manager. In the morning I spoke with the manager who quickly got me another room, now 308, another forward facing room. It was a little smaller than the first but you can tell housekeeping did a good wipe down you could smell the cleaning products upon entry.
The hotel offers buffet style breakfast and I tried it on the morning I was flying back home. They had pancakes, oatmeal, bagels, fruit, eggs, sausages, bacon, orange and apple juice, coffee, and tea. Only issue was you can't bring it to your room but they will allow you to take utensils if you need it for your deliveries.
The hotel staff was nice, overall it was well kept. A couple friends popped by to say hi and they were impressed. The Bronx doesn't have a good reputation. I grew up here so I know it isn't as bad as people believe so I am happy to see nice and safe hotels in the community.
I will add though the hotel does offer everything to make your stay comfortable such as plenty towels and washcloths, I'd recommend you bring your own bodywash and shampoo (see pics). There was no iron or ironing board but there was a blow dryer. The room has a small refrigerator but no microwave. One thing i wish it had was a hook in the bathroom maybe behind the door to hang your robe or even toiletry bag.
On my final day, I received three calls from the front desk to remind me that check out was at 11. I had a 2pm flight at jfk so the plan was to leave at exactly 11. I can't get too mad that they were staying in top of you to leave because if you read the fine print to your agreement they will def charge you if your not out by 11 so you can't say you weren't warned. Also they put a 100$ deposit on your card during check in. The hold was removed after I checked out.
