I’m new to Pine Ridge. I know I’m an outsider. But this was the most home feeling place I’ve visited yet. The drinks are delicious the food is good & they are so nice.

I love visiting this coffee shop when I’m in town! My favorite is the Oreo Frappe. They have really good muffins and cookies too. I wish I could get it all the time.

Phenomenal coffee shop owned by local families. The atmosphere is welcoming and exceptional. The owner is incredibly sweet and earnest in her dream of changing the community for the better.

Google
Fantastic coffee shop - service is great, food and drinks are well made and high quality. It’s great to have a cafe on the Rez that one can reliably work from. Will be leveraging this cafe to work remote so I can stay on the Rez longer. Highly recommend!

Google
Amazing cafe with great coffee, good food, tea, smoothies, and desserts. Beautiful garden and outdoor seating area. Really nice atmosphere inside too. Most importantly, it's a local native-owned business providing top quality coffee and service! I'll be back.

I am from the Rosebud "rez" next door and Amanda and myself make it a rule to stop at Higher Ground in Pine Ridge and purchase the wonderful coffee and those amazing blueberry muffins. It is a great place to eat daily specials and the owners are great role models for entrepreneurship and community involvement. I give it five stars. We need the same type of coffee shop here on the Rosebud. Lila Pilaunyanpi (We thank you very much)

This little coffee shop has awesome ambience, great staff and wonderful products for the weary Traveller. They don't mind if you hang out for awhile, stating "this is what we're here for". I will visit every chance I get!

Yelp
Cutest coffee spot in town! I was so grateful to find this place! They offer a variety of coffee, tea, smoothies and food. I'm a Starbucks fiend, but the closest one to Pine Ridge is 66 miles! I must say this coffee is much better than Starbucks and worth every penny. There's a huge variety of syrup flavors and many sugar free options. The seating is cozy and the vibe is chill. My drink was out in less than 3 minutes and the staff is pleasant. Definitely check them out if you're in the area. Support small businesses!!

Yelp
Higher Ground is a gem! The Matthews family has owned and operated this local coffee shop and cafe for 11 years come May 2015. Nestled in a cozy converted house with wrap-around deck, the food is delicious, the coffee is fresh, the frappes are nourishing, and the staff are gracious. You're sure to enjoy stopping by for a bite. (And if you have time to visit, it's just a short drive to the Heritage Center at the Red Cloud Indian School at 100 Mission Drive (http://www.redcloudschool.org/museum). This marvelous museum adjoins a beautiful gift shop selling artwork all made locally.)

Yelp
The best place to grab a sandwich on the reservation. Everything is homemade and can be made to order. It's a very small place so it's better to go during off hours. And don't leave without getting a cookie or muffin.

Yelp
An cozy shop with average coffee and big, delicious home-made muffins. I'm glad this place exists, only because I love my coffee, and this place is better than Big Bat's gas station down the road. However, their coffee is usefully fairly bitter and inconsistent in temperature, flavor, and strength. On the upside they have a selection of breakfast sandwich, lunch items including an asian noodle dish, and home-made cookies and brownies. The shop is very quaint and cozy, with a number of seating options and deck outside. NOTE: If you want a specialty breakfast sandwich, call the afternoon before (ie, without meat, or w/ extra items), and know that they often do run out of sandwiches by mid-late morning. The same goes with lunch items.

Yelp
Yeah!! so glad to find you guys are here and doing well. Higher powered, or oops I meant 'higher ground.' Anyway, I have been here twice and both times I liked it alot. Good people, and I like what they are doing in town. The coffee is great and so are the snacks and baked things. I am not a fan of Rapid City and much prefer the open plains and down through this area. A very fine community with good people. Ahehee' from Arizona ! Update: 12/8/17, I don't ever use the word 'reservation,' as I believe that it comes from a time in our history that was negative towards Native people. Instead I say, 'Nation,' or 'community.' The Navajo Nation, the Blackfeet community. If you listen carefully, most major news outlets are also slowly shifting to this usage as well, and to me it shows great respect.

Yelp
I was in Pine Ridge last September visiting Red Cloud school. I stopped at Higher Ground as I was leaving. Had a great coffee and took some amazing ground coffee with me. It was an amazing chocolate Hazel Nut blend. One of my friends--a coffee "expert"--said it was probably the best he had ever tasted...and I agree.

Yelp
We were so happy to find this cozy, beautify coffee shop in Pine Ridge. The coffee is excellent, the food is wonderful, and the service is friendly and efficient. We have been back several times and found that the coffee was consistently excellent, hot and really enjoyable. The breakfast items are great, and the selection of both drinks and food is amazing for such a small place. We love all the flowers outside and the tables on the porch. The inside is quaint and beautifully decorated. We are really thankful to have such a place to get our coffee fix!

Yelp
The price range is a little high for a hard working man/fulltime student. I am sure that the local people who do not work for the federal government, and whom do not earn a 145$ a day working for the feds, will enjoy an affordable bronco which does not cost just under 5$, or a delicious sandwich which also does not cost just under 5 George's. But its good business selling out over priced coffees and muffins to the fortunate people with the highest paying jobs on the Pine Ridge Reservation. I mean how else are they going to find the energy to get to their 70,000$ a year jobs. But lets face it, it is good business, the rich get richer, its been going on for years. but lets face other facts, Higher Ground is definitely no Big Bats Texaco were its overpriced, and every thing is deep fried and wreaks of loiters and stench. The only thing I observed that both establishes have in common is the price range. Between a 3.75$ breakfast burrito from Big Bats and a 4.67$ or so bronco burrito from Higher Ground; I highly recommend choosing Higher Ground because with high prices also comes high quality ingredients and just because Higher Ground is expensive; it does have the freshest home made product on the reservation. If not for the high prices and constant flow off rich people that keep buying out all the good food and broncos. I would issue a better rating.

Yelp
A great place to enjoy the special of the day, a delicious smoothie or gourmet coffee drink, and best of all...engaging conversation. An oasis on the "res"

Yelp
Fantastic food and baked goods in addition to excellent specialty coffees and blended drinks! Very friendly staff & cozy environment - a gem!

Yelp
A group of women from my church visit the Higher Ground twice a year when we come to the reservation. It is, by far, our favorite place to go. I always order the breakfast sandwich. It is the best available anywhere, and I am from the Minneapolis area. They are so generous with ingredients, and the service is outstanding.
