Highland Lighthouse

Visited this lighthouse on a weekend, and managed to buy the tickets for the last tour. The price for adult is $8, for school student $6.50. The narrated part of the tour is very short, probably 2-3 minutes. And after, they let you climb the top of the lighthouse. The spiral staircase is very narrow, and the last one on the top is even narrower, even hard to squize the shoulders:))). The bulb is modern one, and differs from other lighthouses. On the top level another tour guide answers all the questions, and takes the pictures of the families. Also, there is very hot there. Plenty of free parking space, and also there is a decent restroom.

Beautiful lighthouse and superb views of the ocean from the observation deck. The lighthouse, under the late afternoon light of a cold and sunny November day when we visited the place, was absolutely stunning. It is the oldest and tallest lighthouse on the Cape and we highly recommend visiting it!

The tour is definitely worth taking. There's 2 tour guides, one at the bottom and one at the very top. They were both fantastic. They taught us so much about the lighthouse and it's history. Not only are they both knowledgeable, they both were so friendly! I highly recommend the trip to this beautiful lighthouse....the climb to the top (and it's gorgeous views) is going to be s treasured memory.

This was a highlight of our vacation and a must-do if you are in the area. The views from the top are gorgeous and it is well worth the price. The Park Service staff were friendly and knowledgeable, even offering to take a picture of all of us with the beautiful backdrop. Note: There is a ladder that requires some dexterity to get to the inside of the lighthouse - not many steps, but you do have to get up and down it. There is a gift shop on site and restrooms just down the road by the parking lot and attached to the museum. Make sure to walk down to the lighthouse's original location as well. I highly recommend taking an hour out of your day to explore the lighthouse and grounds.

Frist i recommend going to the bathroom at the first parking lot you see because that also is the only place you will be able to go and the only place you can park. This lighthouse is on a golf range which is unique. We bought tickets inside to do the tour of the light house, very afforable! We waited about 15 minutes since a group had just gone up before us. The woman at the desk was very nice and started giving us some history on the light house. Our two guides about the light house were great, one on the bottom and one up top. Just be aware wo entry ways are very narrow and steep little stairs at the top, so watch your head! Once you get to the top its very warm but worth it! Gorgeous views!

One of the better lighthouses that I have seen. You can actually go up to the light on the top. The keepers house and the grounds are very well maintained. There is a nice little store in the keepers house also. This is the first lighthouse that I've seen with golf course around it.

Cool place to see cost 7$ senior to good up now used to be free. We had been there before so I didn't go up. If you haven't been there it's worth the trip especially if you can climb the stairs up. They do have a golf course there.

Was very cool learning some of the history the light house going back to George Washington. The views were amazing and tour guides were very nice and informative. Just a warning, stairs are a little tight and steep, not bad but our daughter was very scared once we got to the top.

This was a wonderful and unique experience! Our tour guide, Ken, was extremely knowledgeable and eager to share the history behind the house and its keepers. The view is amazing. Support your National Parks and landmarks by visiting.

We loved the lighthouse and learned so much. There is so much history here. The staff know their facts and are very friendly. We paid for a tour of the lighthouse which was worth the money and the profits supported national parks. The tour was pleasantly brief ~20 minutes. Not the easiest climb, could be challenging for young children, bad joints, or heavier set individuals but was just fine for us. Very hot at the top in the summer time but we got to ask a bunch of questions and they offered to take our picture. Definitely worth the visit!

Had a free day to burn so I took a drive towards the coast. I saw this was one of the coastal attractions. It is awesome to see and read about the history of this lighthouse. Unfortunately everything in the area is shutdown so no tours are available. They are currently renovating the lighthouse. I suppose it's a great time to do so since everything is shut down. None the less, it was nice to see, and I enjoyed a great view !!!

I have been coming to Cape Cod for 40 years now. During my college days, I discovered this lighthouse and fell in love. It was also then I found out that it was in trouble and so added my name to the list to help save this Grand Dame. She is the Eastern most light seen from the Atlantic ocean commanding a spectacular view. There is a Highland museum as well as a gift store. You can still climb her stairs if you are feeling adventurous. If you want to talk about the nicest Lighthouses..she must be on your list. It is a must see if you visit..you WON'T be disappointed. There are days you can even watch the whales from the lookout point!

Took the lighthouse tour for this one! It was so cool, but it is very tight and very steep stairs, and ladders to get to the top! So take that into consideration. It was an amazing view! And in the right season, you can see lots of whales!!

Lovely lighthouse with panoramic views once you reach the top, though I cannot take credit for any of those photos because I get very claustrophobic and make it about half way up and always have to turn back! So thankfully my husband gets up there and takes the pictures!! :) Great little gift shop and cafe here too!

Highland lighthouse, or Cape Cod's very first lighthouse is one of my favorite on the cape. My boyfriend and I loved just walking the grounds of the lighthouse this time around, as we've done the climb many times. There is a beautiful view of the bluffs and the water just a short walk behind the light. From end of May until mid October, the light is open from 10am~5pm, with the last climb being at 4:30pm. There are no restrooms at the actual lighthouse, but there are some at the Highland Museum (just a short walk away). If you'd like to climb the light, it's $6 for adults and $5 for students/seniors. They do some light up the night climbs, with the next one being on October 11.

I can only give this one star. Lighthouse wrapped in plastic and no signs to indicate. Said it would be done in 2021 but guess what people, 2021 is here and not done!

What a great experience! My boyfriend and I came up on a hot day - the docents were so wonderful and knowledgeable- engaging. The museum had an interesting curated experience - highly recommend!

A classic lighthouse Even though I've been to this the lighthouse dozens of times and have been in the museum, gift shop and bottom of the light, I've never actually was able to get up to the top. Probably because of my penchant for going to the Cape in the winter or off season. Yesterday I finally visited the light when they offered tours to the top. Tour is a subjective term. You hand the guy four bucks and he points to the stairs. Actually that's cool, I prefer just going up myself. Sure, I bonked my head about five times getting up the stairs and ladder but it was still fun. There was another fellow on the top and he answered my stupid questions. Quite knowledgeable and we had a great time looking around and talking about all the different lights we've seen. After the "tour" I went to the gift shop and bought a cool lighthouse t-shirt and some books. Just what I need, more lighthouse stuff, but the money goes to preserving the light. Highland Lighthouse is one of the most impressive lights to look at but is even more impressive when you have chance to get to the top and sample the incredible views.

Love the little Highland Museum and the Cape Cod Light!! A fun way to experience old Cape Cod!! The museum is cool and quaint with a $5.00 admission fee for adults. It has some cool and fantastic artwork, photos, furniture and old equipment from days past. The upstairs shows how the building was once used for an hotel and it has several rooms made up in the old period style. The lighthouse is where it is at!! $4.00 to enter and take the steep climb to the top. The views are amazing. If you are spooked by bats, this is not for you, as several bats (harmless) were sleeping and hanging out on the walls. Warning: Do not make this climb up wearing flip flops. Also the store sells this homemade sea-salted caramels which are TO DIE FOR!!! Highly recommended.

AKA Cape Cod Light which is the Cape's first lighthouse by the order of President George Washington built in 1797. For a small admission fee of $4.00 the tour is informative yet pleasant. There is also a gift shop. Highland Light is Cape Cod's history. Highland Links Golf Course is nearby.

We planned to stop at the lighthouse again this trip. We were here years ago before they moved the lighthouse. We contributed to the fund to save/move the lighthouse. An amazing group of volunteers energetic research, fundraising and skilled professionals movers saved this treasure. The view from the top of the lighthouse is amazing. The museum has a large collection of artifacts arranged interesting displays.

Great little piece of history, and a very interesting story about cliff erosion and the moving of the lighthouse to save it from falling over the cliff. Spend the $6 to take the tour of the light, it's worth every penny. The guides know all the details of the place, and love to tell you about it. On top of that, the views from the tower are incredible! Bring a camera, and have fun! Be aware, though. If you have a fear of heights, the climb to the top can be a little unnerving.

Beautiful area to visit! It was very cool to see the inside of a working lighthouse and walk up the stairs to the top of the tower. The ocean views are very nice and parking was easy to find.

Historic lighthouse on a high bluff overlooking the ocean is well worth a visit. I also enjoyed a visit to the nearby museum with its many artifacts of shipwrecks and the in that used to occupy the building. Nicely curated exhibit of artists Edward and Jo Hopper. Docent Susan Lapidus gave us a very informative introduction to the museum and the history of the building.

Beautiful lighthouse! Came for a visit while in the Cape. So amazing. The land is eroding so the house will have to be moved or taken because of the bluffs on the other side. A little sad, but worth it if you're in the area. Cape Escape Baby!!

Awesome lighthouse but sadly it is being renovated and completely shut down in 2021. Scaffolding is completely surrounding the lighthouse.

Cape Cod's oldest lighthouse is an easy stop off highway 6 in Truro on your way to or from P-town. The museum is currently closed for renovation. The friendly guy at the lighthouse collected our $4 each and we had a nice little climb to the top. Our son enjoyed being up in a lighthouse for the first time. This lighthouse was actually moved further back from it's original location on the cliff because of erosion to the coastline. There is a small museum type display downstairs and a gift shop. Quick stop. Easy parking. Nice short walk out to the light itself (closer handicapped parking if you need it).

The Highland Lighthouse is actually officially called the Cape Cod Lighthouse. Located in Truro it's a quick drive from P-town and only a couple minutes from the Truro Vineyards. They've got a free parking lot and allow people to go up inside the lighthouse (for $4) mid May through mid October. Right by the lighthouse is the Highland Museum located inside of an historic hotel and houses lots of artifacts from Native Americans that once inhabited the area as well as Pilgrims and turn of the century pieces. Also by the lighthouse is the Highland Links Golf Course (built in 1892, it's Cape Cod's oldest golf course) Here's your day's history lesson: -The Cape Cod Light is Cape Cod's oldest lighthouse. -The lighthouse was originally built in 1797, rebuilt in 1853, and replaced with the current structure in 1857 -The light originally ran on whale oil and was converted from kerosene to electricity in 1932. -In 1901 the lighthouse got a 1st order Fresnel lens (the largest of all lighthouse lenses), this was taken out and replaced in the 1950s -When the lighthouse was originally built it stood 500' from the edge of the cliff, the cliff slowly eroded and by the 1990s it was about 100' from the edge. Money was raised and in 1996 they moved the lighthouse back about 450' to its present location (there's now a walkway and platform you can walk out to see where the lighthouse once stood).

The only lighthouse you can go up in! We were taking a day to drive to the tip of Cape Cod back in June and picked out a few lighthouses to visit. This was one of them. We were able to go up to the top of the lighthouse!!! I believe this is the only lighthouse they let you tour. It was a sunny day with clear view. Definitely worth the time to stop!

Nice little lighthouse with 60 steps to the top. Start in the museum area and go up into the lighthouse. They moved the lighthouse back from the edge so it wasn't washed into the ocean as the sand go away. Off Highway 6 in Truro on your way to or from P-Town.

Beautiful sight full of history. I think it's the only light house that charges an entrance fee. No beach access due to the eroding cliffs. Not much to do here if you don't pay for the tour.

Lighthouse was really cool. Old and well maintained. There's a lookout by the water as well after a short walk. Didn't try the museum, but that's something else to possibly do if you're in the area. Tip: Plenty of free parking

Come here to learn about the history of the Cape's first lighthouse. It's $6 for adults and $5 for students. Restrooms are at a building where you initially park your car. Take a short walk to the museum and lighthouse. Look at souvenirs while you wait to enter the tour. Two nice guides wait for you--one downstairs who tells you about the history, renovation, upkeep, etc and then you walk up the stairs to meet the second guide and see the light itself, look out the glass, and enjoy more history. It's a short tour, maybe 15 minutes. Kids must be over 48 inches tall to do the lighthouse climb and must be accompanied by an adult. Staff are very welcoming and answer any questions you may have. There's a lookout point that you can walk to after you're done with the lighthouse climb. You can not access the beach from the lighthouse, because it sits on a cliff. Try it out then head to Provincetown (about 7.5 miles north) for ice cream. Very fun.

Serene place, a nice quiet nook of the Cape Cod National Seashore. There's a good deal of history in the light itself, and the tour ($4) is pretty good. There's a small room of history and a gift shop if you are so inclined. You're among the Highland Links Golf Course when walking to the light, so watch out for drunk old men with argyle socks swerving their golf carts. But from the lighthouse and out it's pedestrian only so you can stroll out to the deck that overlooks the beach (about 30 feet below) and out onto the water if you happen to get a clear day. Fog is frequent and unpredictable - hence the need for a lighthouse! A nice change of pace to the inundation of tourism on The Cape.

Some of the finest folks on Cape Cod. The hosts at Highland Light could not have been more charming or caring for our group of young explorers (ages 4 - 6) when we were out for a visit over 4th of July week. The lighthouse itself is everything you expect from a piece of preserved history maintained in working order which we hope will remain in service for many more years to come. Highland Light makes for a great photo opportunity for friends and family when visiting Cape Cod and variable weather conditions make every visit unique. Certainly worth the trip!

Beautiful spot and location obviously, however since this is a review of my overall experience, I felt inclined to give an honest review. The elder woman who works at this location was extremely rude and confrontational and refused any efforts to change her attitude to a more positive, approachable one especially since her work revolves around dealing with the public. this woman was immediately negative towards the handler of an under control service animal for a disabled combat veteran. In a customer service oriented atmosphere and in general, a more positive, understanding approach should be taken instead of the immediate negativity presented by this employee, especially towards individuals who traveled far, and just wanted to enjoy their time and not be harassed.

What a great place! I highly recommend those who love history go. The museum is great and brings you back to a time when tourism was becoming a thing on the Cape. The lighthouse of course is spectacular! The views from the cliff are breathtaking. Don't miss this gem!

I went to Highland Light on a whim and was glad I did. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and nice. I got to go to the top of the lighthouse and wow, what a view! If you're in the area, stop in. It's worth going on a tour and checking out the beautiful scenery surrounding the lighthouse.

Defiantly worth a visit. Nice place to walk around with good views. A 9 hole Golf course there also. Small breakfast, snack and lunch cafe. Hidden location we were here a few years for the season and didn't know it existed.

So charming!! A great view of the cape with the most informative tour imaginable. Linda and Joe were super knowledgeable about the lighthouse's history, and they clearly love their job here. It made for a really enjoyable and charming tour.

We went here quite by accident but sometimes getting lost rewards you in a way you never thought possible. Great piece of history here plus you get really good panoramic views when you get to the top the light house. Well, worth the cost!

Great tour and great lighthouse! I highly recommend putting this on your list if you are in the Cape Cod area.

We've been here twice. Once we went up to the top and the second time we just hang out at the deck and the ground around the lighthouse. This time, we dropped a bundle in the gift shop and got some interesting mugs, paintings, and T-shirts for our friends and family. We liked this place and would probably come back again.

This place is awesome! Lots of history and a perfect presentation, and the staff here is the best!! We heard a story about people with service animals wanting them to climb to the top. Please be kind to your pets and leave them at home!! There is a narrow staircase ladder to get to the light at the top and the spiral staircase is not built for pets but people only!! Enjoy! We did!

Beautiful, scenic. My fiancé and I biked here from North Truro and it was worth the trip. The lighthouse is the oldest on Cape Cod and really beautiful. We did not pay the $6 to do the tour but enjoyed walking around the grounds. As a side note, this is right near the golf course and it looked very nice but also challenging--probably not for beginners.

For $4 a person you can walk to the top of the lighthouse and get a quick education on this lighthouse, purpose, house they moved it, etc. The views were breath taking! You can also walk out to where the lighthouse once sat.

We did a lot of research looking for a lighthouse to tour and found the Highland Lighthouse. Wow! First it's easy to find and the location is breathtaking. I couldn't believe how not busy they were because it can't be beat! The gift shop has tons of fun stuff and my children loved learning about lighthouse "signatures". My youngest wasn't tall enough for the tour but they provided coloring sheets and a movie and she didn't notice what she missed on the tour. Plus they gave her a free ticket to visit when she is tall enough! We are a family of lighthouse nuts and the Highland is a can't miss!

Ended up here in lieu of the winery that was closed. As lighthouses go it's on the smaller side, but it looks classic with a little attached house. It was off season so the museum was closed, but you can walk around and out to the cliff location where it was originally placed. Nice little piece of history.

Awesome place, the view is great and the fee is low - only $4 per adult. One of the tour guides was a bit grumpy though. If you are in the area, this is an awesome place to check out, but it's not worth the drive from somewhere farther away.
