We have gone to breakfast more than three times and it is always a very pleasant experience, the food is delicious and sufficient. Everything is prepared at the moment and they attend very quickly. The super recommended cinnamon have different coffees and hot drinks, very affordable prices and a pleasant family atmosphere.

I love their wild blueberry pancakes 🥞 Their creamy spinach egg Benedict is super yummy 🤤 Service and ambience is perfect, highly recommend this place!

Large in portion! Steamed veggies are exceptional, natural sweetness bursted in mouth \(//∇//)\ Can’t wait till the patio is open again in summer! ☀️

Love the atmosphere of this cute little diner! You can easily have a conversation, and enjoy the atmosphere. Dessert was the absolute highlight—make sure you leave room for it!

It's at the top of the hill, immediate right after the bridge. Nice place, huge patio, and indoor seating. Exactly what you would expect from a diner. I don't know why I ordered the fish and chips, I should have stuck with a burger. I ordered the fish and chips, and 20 minutes later, it arrived with a thimble sized tartar serving and coleslaw. The fish was, well, difficult to get at, even with a knife. The fish was resisting all efforts to come willingly. I spent a good part of my dinner trying to cut the fish and eat it. The pieces I managed were bland, and I gave up. The fish won. The chips were good, the coleslaw, okay. I am sure they have better items, I picked a less than average dinner. This ones up to you, flip a coin and takes your chances.

My partner and I have visited a few times now, and though the food is great, the breakfast portions are a little small. And when you sit outside the service lacks; you feel forgotten. Overall we keep giving this spot chances because the food tastes great and the place has a cozy feel.

Blah, just had dinner there tonight. The menus look like they have not been replaced since the restaurant opening. We waited for at least 15-20 minutes before we were offered drinks. I ordered the Mediterranean appetizer platter, the pita bread was dried out and chewy, black bean hummus and tzatziki were flavourless, and was the chicken really chicken, it sure was questionable. My husband had the Gouda burger, he described it as fine. Will not be back.

Delicious food served quickly and hot! We ordered the smoked salmon Benny, fried chicken sandwich, fries + gravy and the kids’ pancakes. Everything was tasty. Our server, a young man, was amazingly efficient and friendly. We had just left the restaurant and heard him calling for us at the door. We had forgotten one of our kiddos’ water bottles on the table and he wanted to make sure we got it. Thank you!

Yelp
Love the Ukrainian supper on Thursdays! We went out to this old favourite with our niece. Aside from the waiter managing to interrupt our conversation constantly, the service was good. My gluten free pyroghies were a bit underdone but still edible. It was a pleasant experience overall.

Yelp
It's actually my 100 % favourite restaurant in Edmonton. Brunch, lunch, supper. I need to get in there again soon lol! Quite casual, wonderful food, wonderful ambience.

Yelp
Been here several times now and of course I have to try something new! I got the Diners Vegetarian Burger. Bun as super fresh and well toasted. Vegetables on it were fresh and crisp. Patty was good but did crumble a lot. 9/10. It comes with a condiment tray of 4 which was super fun and a way to personalize the burger. I got the soup of the day - Coconut curry squash - good flavor but quite thin and could have been richer and thicker or had some filler like vegetables or rice in it. Not spicy. 8/10 Boyfriend got the Grilled Chicken & Cheddar cheese sandwich. The sandwich was better than I expected. Bread coated in egg like a French toast was cooked very well. Filling was moist, lots of chicken and creamy. I would give it a 9/10 as I would prefer stiffer more hearty bread. He also got the soup and liked it. Friend got the Classic Ural Burger with gluten-free bun. She specifically asked if they had buns as sometimes menus offer gluten free options but then the burger is just in a lettuce wrap. She also got the condiment tray. She was happy with her choice. She also got the Green salad - this looked great - very colorful. My gluten free friend also got the flourless chocolate cake. It was a good size for the price, very rich and fudgy. Definitely not for the lactose-intolerant.

Yelp
We have been ordering take out from here during the pandemic pretty regularly. We go for the gluten free fish and chips special with a caesar salad and some mandarin fruit punch drinks. All of their sauces are made in house including the ketchup. Portions are big and generous. We usually share an order if fish and chips and the entree salad. We are looking forward to the day we dine in again but take-out from here is a great option!

Yelp
Great service. Food even better! Sangria terrible, but that's on me. Who gets that in a diner. Lol I will most definitely be back. Sat on the patio on a Sunday. I had Spinach Pie with a Caesar. Omg so good. Friend had Guinness Cottage Pie with Tabouleh Salad. Get Tabouleh salad here. Whole experience was impressive.

Yelp
I haven't been to this restaurant for years and It surprised me I didn't see the usually line up at the door. We ordered brunch and it was mediocre at best. Something has changed about this place, it's lost its magic. It's really unfortunate because it was a loved spot in the city.

Rhoda L.

Yelp
A classic Edmonton restaurant that never disappoints. Located at the edge of the university, I frequented Highlevel Diner many times when I live in the neighborhood. Their food is classic comfort with some Asian and Middle Eastern additions. Portions sizes are great and we always leave full. I recommended their brunch and also the Mediterranean appetizer platter. They are also well known for their cinnamon buns so don't forget to leave room for some of those. You are able to take them to go too. I also love their tabouleh salad which is fresh and refreshing.

Erika G.

Yelp
When it comes to classic Edmonton it doesn't get more iconic than Garneau's Highlevel Diner. Its been around since 1982 and you'll find them right at the south end of the High Level Bridge, hence its name. You Gotta Eat Here! featured them in season two of the show and locals have been enjoying this neighbourhood restaurant for years upon years. The little section of road that Highlevel Diner is on not only has an incredible view of the downtown skyline, but has also become increasingly awesome in recent years in terms of businesses. It's a "good restaurant" hot spot, home to not only Highlevel Diner, but also Sugarbowl Cafe, Eleanor and Laurent, and La Petite Iza - every single one of them an amazing restaurant. I'd kinda love to live directly across the street. Parking can be a bit of a pain in this area but I tend to find that street parking usually materializes. Highlevel Diner has a beautiful location right on the street corner and the spacious yet cozy restaurant feels exactly as you hope it will, with dark wooden beams, quaint little nooks, local art all over the walls, and a magical suncatcher display. It absolutely feels like home. They also have some patio seating along the front of the building with string lights hanging overhead from the awning. It really couldn't be a nicer little spot. I visited on a Sunday evening and a friendly server seated me on the patio in the beautiful spring sun. I went ahead and ordered a Homebrewed Iced Tea (Lightly sweetened home brew - $3.95) since I've always been a fan of "real" iced tea. What more could you want on a pleasant sunny day? I love a homemade iced tea that isn't too sweet and actually tastes like real tea. This one succeeds at exactly that. However, I did question whether what was served to me was actually an arnold palmer (an iced tea mixed with lemonade) because I was definitely detecting some lemon going on. Either way, I was very happy drinking this. If I had been feeling boozy I likely would've ordered the Highlevel caesar, which is made with a local hot sauce and house pickles. The food at Highlevel Diner is half diner-like, half brunchy, half Canadiana, and half comfort. (I guess those should've been quarters and not halves.) There are lots of sandwiches and burgers, but also things like short ribs, fish & chips, and Guinness cottage pie. But also Thai green curry? They're also getting into the world of fried chicken these days (because who isn't?). It's a bit of a mixed bag. I've been ordering the same sandwich for years and have a difficult time deviating at this point: the Chick N Cheddar Sandwich (Egg dipped, grilled cheese bread, chicken salad & cheddar cheese - $14.50) which is served with a choice of fries or soup. I have very affectionately been referring to this sandwich as the "cholesterol sandwich" for many years. It's like cheesy french toast as bread with creamy chicken salad inside and more cheese. So as long as you know what you're getting yourself into, you're probably going to love this sandwich a whole lot. I know I do! The bread is super soft and moist and the chicken salad is made up of nice fresh chunks of chicken. There's a lot of sharp cheddar going on throughout and it adds a great flavour as well as those crispy fried cheese edges (which are the best). I will never stop loving (and ordering) this sandwich. The fries are also exceptional. Super crispy and golden, lightly salted, and a perfect match for the housemade ketchup that you get with them. This plate is great just the way it is. Never change a thing. There's a famous dessert at Highlevel Diner so I ordered it! The Bread Pudding (Served warm, swimming in caramel bourbon sauce - $8.50). Very sweet and absolutely swimming in a sugar bath - with a bowl of whipped cream on the side. This dessert was absolutely delicious. The bread itself was ultra moist and caramelized on top, each bite bathing itself in the incredible, sticky-sweet caramel bourbon sauce. It's the kind of sauce that you would consider taking a bath in - except that it would also give you diabetes. I loved dunking my spoonfuls into the whipped cream for maximum effect. This dessert is a lot and I would certainly recommend sharing it but you won't be disappointed. Eating a meal at Highlevel Diner just feels right. It's comfortable, unpretentious and feels like home. They may not have some of the bells and whistles that other restaurants do but you can't really go wrong with a mainstay like this one. They're also known for their brunch, which I need to return for because it has been a long, long time since I've had it. This is the kind of restaurant that makes you feel good and I hope that they continue to do so for another 40 years.

Yelp
Solid dinner and drink options. We haven't been here for a while so stopped in for dinner. I feel like the quality of the food is somewhat lower than I remember. We had the short ribs and the fish & chips. The short ribs were a solid choice and I'd recommend. The fish & chips were also a solid choice. The batter was thin which I like!

Garrett M.

Yelp
Food was awesome. I had the cottage pie and Caesar salad and it was delicious. The atmosphere has some solid diner vibes. Parking is a problem when visiting here. They have very limited parking and if you find a spot make sure you register your plate with the Host, I did not see the sign and got ticketed. Made for a more expensive lunch then I wanted.

Janis M.

Yelp
Finally added huevos rancheros to weekend brunch!!!!! They only thing to make it better would be ditching the canned refried beans and instead using real black beans. Alberta is a grain and legume powerhouse after all and High Level makes a point of supporting local produce and providers. But their It Came from the River Hot sauce is awesome - has a kick to it but doesn't hurt and the right amount of sour. We bought some for home and put it on everything!

Darren J.

Yelp
Second time here and it's no fluke how delicious the food is here. The staff are super friendly and the decor beckons to a simpler time in casual dining. There is a patio area for summer and it's location of restaurant is in unique area near university of Alberta. Menu selection is good and pricing is not cheap but for what yummy food you get it's worth it. Got the chicken grilled cheese with home made fries and maple mayo. The bread was dipped in egg. Wow. Love it. Overall this place was on the Canadian Food network show "You gotta eat here" and indeed you have too.

Michael S.

Yelp
The Highlevel Diner is really close to home, and a place I bring my parents all the time, and they're not easy to please! There's gluten-free items to keep Mom happy, and the Ukrainian night specials (perogies with sautéed onions, sweet or savory (or both) cabbage rolls) for Dad, and pretty much everything else for me - from breakfast things to salads to especially the turkey plate - except the cinnamon buns, which are famous but do nothing for me. Just too dry. Ok portions and a full brunch menu, if you're needing to break a party into a weekend morning :-) I find the prices on the high end, and I think they do float a bit on their reputation. There's always an almost full house, and a loudish conversational buzz, but I can always hear the others in my party. Homemade ketchup which is a must try...is that curry in there? Limited parking outside and a short walk from the LRT.

D W.

Yelp
Not really a diner at all anymore. Friendly but slow service. Disappointed by menu selections, was expecting diner type food selection.

Nishawn M.

Yelp
I have heard many things about the fabled HighLevel Diner and after today I can see why. The food is delicious, I ordered the margarita eggs Benedict served with an acidic hollandaise sauce, that which complimented the tomato and basil in the eggs. The server was a bit blah and didn't seem very excited to be here but everything else was top notch during this experience. We visited for my parents anniversary and they gave us a complimentary cinnamon bun for the occasion. All in all it was a very nice experience and will definitely be back to try their lunch!

Shayla D.

Yelp
FAVOURITE breakfast place!! The farmer's omelette is my go to! SO yummy! Really good coffee and lattes! And the big cinnamon bun is to die for! The toast and potatoes are so good! And the homemade ketchup is FIRE! Been going here since 2007! Love it!

Andrèa S.

Yelp
We've had nacho plate which was very good You can order sides which are very good as well generous portions. I'm not a big fan of their breakfast. Sit outside enjoy the breeze and people watch. Situated close to High Level bridge.

Yelp
Busy area to have a late lunch but it was a beautiful Saturday and the 6 of us ended up here. As the restaurant was so full we ended up grabbing a table on the patio where there was hanging outdoor heaters. Down side to that choice was one side of the table was warmer than the other. So I'd advise if you sit on the patio in April that you make sure to still have a good jacket with you. Lots of choices for drinks and coffee but be careful to note that what might look like sugar to one person is not the case. Go for the big syrup like container with brown crystallized sugar instead of grabbing the salt like my friend did by accident. Also milk and cream come in containers with colour coded dots but the coloured dots on the ketchup just mean different dates (as they make their ketchup in house so FYI it's a bit runner than expected and wasn't really much of a flavour). These findings did give us some big laughs though! We were all happy with our range of choices for the meals. I had a fish taco special that had great flavour and had good addition of items to add texture but definitely need to keep over the plate to catch all sauce dripping out. Nothing special about the fries I had as a side, especially after they were accidentally dosed with a large volume of the ketchup. So I'm very serious about being careful of the runny ketchup! As half our table was quite chilled when we were done our meals and the other half couldn't sit any longer on the cold hard chairs, we decided to skip dessert. Nice was to bring in the spring weather but next time I think I'll opt to sit inside.

Yelp
You can definitely tell when this place was roughly built. It totally appears to still have its original look with minimal work done to fix it up. A friend and I decided to share the Mediterranean platter and pork enchiladas. I wasn't too crazy about the latter dish. It came with refried beans and rice. The rice was very disappointing as it was just plain brown rice. It's exactly what I make at home when I'm in a rush. It would be nice if they added some sort of spice to jazz it up. The mediterranean on the other hand was fantastic. I would hands down order it again. For $21 you get a bit of everything and it's well portioned. The chicken souvlaki was well seasoned and the tabouleh salad was so fresh and flavourful. I would love to come back and try their other stuff. Staff members were all friendly and attentive. They have a parking lot across the street with a few reserved stalls for the restaurant. You have to remember to register your plate with them though.

Danielle N.

Yelp
This is a kitschy edmonton spot to dine at. Comfort food is on the menu! Great for causal lunch and dinners. Also a fun brunch spot. Fun and eclectic ambiance. They have different featured artists work up every few month. Photos of the city. I got myself a Ural burger, basically a cheeseburger, with in house made relish and ketchup on the side. Portions were very big!!! Fries were crispy and fresh! I was dinning with a celiac so it was great to know they have a separate fryer for gluten free food only, so there is limited risk for cross contamination. My mother's gluten free bun wasn't particularly fresh though which was unfortunate. She did enjoy the fries though! Staff was very friendly. Place gets busy in the evenings and often lineups.

Jessica L.

Yelp
Awesome food and even better service! Loved the cosy atmosphere, will definitely be back.

Shawnna P.

Yelp
They are great at serving a large table during lunch rush. Always get the orders right. The food is tasty. Cost is reasonable. Safe for vegan and gluten free dining. Good beer selection, including Alley Kat brews. They are very nice to children. Patio is covered. 90 minutes of free parking. Don't forget to record your license plate # at check in. I love the spinach pie, enchiladas, veggie burger and cheddar chicken sandwich. You have to go up to the counter to pay. *** High Level Diner will give all uniformed police, fire, military or medical personnel a 10% discount.

Connie G.

Yelp
I had the Huevos Rancheros. They were alright. Service was good. Very nice ambiance. I have been looking for a good Huevos Rancheros in the city. While it was good, I would not go back for it again.

Sarah P.

Yelp
Finally got to check out the Highlevel Diner for lunch today :) Both myself and my dining partner had the Thursday Ukrainian special. Pirogies with sautéed onions, 4 cabbage rolls (either sour in a cream sauce or sweet in a tomato sauce - our server suggested we can have 2 of each if we couldn't decide so that's what we did) a garlic sausage and a cup of borscht. All of the food was delicious, the soup was especially good - I could eat like 7 bowls of it. Next time I would get all sour cabbage rolls, soooooo good. I could have skipped the sausage, nothing special about it but that's not my thing anyways so it could have been amazing and I'm just not appreciating it! I will definitely be coming back to try other things off of their menu, seems like a classic diner with good homestyle food choices.

Darcy B.

Yelp
Not much has changed with the Highlevel Diner. We have been coming here for 30 years, food is still good and service is wonderful. Was amazed by how busy it was on a Sunday at 3pm bought it would be safe not to wait for a table, but I was wrong. Ural burger is my favourite, with the Tabouleh salad, my partner loves the clubhouse.

Danielle B.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast, service and atmosphere! Nice little view of downtown! The cinnamon buns are amazing! I would definitely recommend. Parking sucks but they have a sign in sheet

Glen B.

Yelp
Nobody needs to be told that the High Level Diner is a great place to eat. It has a long history in Edmonton. Today I was there for a late breakfast and they didn't disappoint. The service was fast and pleasant. The menu was short which is good because only fast food chains can offer 15 page menus of ready to microwave food. A good restaurant has a short menu of real food. I had the standard breakfast special which is bacon and eggs with whole grain toast and potatoes. My guest had pancakes. The treat was when the brought out the house made ketchup. It's so much better than the manufactured stuff. The coffee was good - although not outstanding - and the were always nearby to check if I wanted a refill. It was a very satisfying meal. If there is a complaint it is regarding parking. Today I was most fortunate as I found one of very few dedicated parking stalls in the nearby parking lot. Otherwise you have to drive around clockwise to search for the elusive street parking. I have tried to park here on Saturdays and after my second loop of searching I often give up and park at the nearby Rosso (also very good but noticeably more expensive). If you are not driving or you just feel lucky I highly recommend the High Level Diner. Don't be fooled by the name, it's definitely a step or two above diner food. Think of it as healthy diner food. I would give 5 stars but the High Level Diner has the most difficult parking situation of anywhere I've dined in Edmonton (even downtown there is always paid parking nearby).

Maria L.

Yelp
I don't usually go out to eat alone as I feel food is better enjoyed as a communal experience, but I happened to be around the university / whyte ave area for work and decided to stop at High Level Diner for a late lunch! I've been here before on a couple occasions for breakfast and have enjoyed the busy weekend atmosphere here, so decided to stop by. Atmosphere: 3.5/5 The restaurant had quieted down a bit as it was getting late for lunch. The building has an older feel and it is a little dark inside, but it was also a little hot that day for the outdoor patio. I love the paintings on the walls - gives the place a homey feel and adds to the uniqueness! Otherwise older but overall clean and generally comfortable. It is conveniently located on whyte ave and easily accessible from the university, but parking could be more of a hassle when it gets busy. Food: 3.5/5 I had the daily sandwich / soup special which was blackened cod on a taco and a chickpea lamb soup. Overall, my meal tasted good but the portion size was a bit smaller than what I expected. I had also asked for the aioli sauce on the side; unfortunately the staff accidentally included it with the dish. I thought my meal was average - generally satisfactory, but I think next time I might opt for some of their other menu options - they do have a variety! Service: 3/5 Overall friendly and efficient; like I said unfortunately they included the aioli sauce with my meal when I had asked for it on the side. Price 3/5 reasonable for a sit down diner meal Overall: 3.5/5 Overall satisfactory experience for a late lunch on whyte ave - I do remember brunch being better so I would return and try some of their other options!

Yelp
Finally had a chance to scratch this E-town institution off our list! No question as to how this spot has been around so long. Great location. Friendly staff. Reasonable prices. Hearty portions... And just good homestyle cooking. There is a small lot south of the building with some reserved spots. Be sure to register your vehicle at the front desk when you arrive if you score one of these spots. The restaraunt has an eclectic, homey feel that csn only come from being established for quite some time. We shared a Middle Eastern sample platter...delicious! Next time I come here...Full order of their amazing spinach pie! Our mains consisted of the Pulled Pork Enchiladas, and the Wednesday special...Dinner's Poutine. Enchiladas were anazing. Fresh and flavourfull. Poutine was a little bland for my liking, but bot bad. All in all...We both added this to our "we gotta' go back" list.

Jennie L.

Yelp
I can't believe that I haven't reviewed this place yet. I have been here probably 5 times a year for either breakfast or supper every year for the last 5. I love this place. First of all, they have parking which around Whyte Ave area is at a premium. You just need to register your licence plate at the main door. Really homey inside full of local artwork that you can purchase. The service is usually decent, although on a busy morning you may need to wait for your coffee to be refilled. I normally come here for breakfast and all their breakfast items are delicious. I love their cinnamon buns! So tasty. This last time I had the classic eggs benny. It was amazing, the Hollandaise sauce was particularly good, and the side of hash browns were great. I have also tried their farmer's omelette as well as their breakfast special and both were really fresh and tasty. For supper I usually order the Middle Eastern Appetizer Platter - hummus, tzatziki, chicken souvlaki, spinach pie, Tabouleh salad & pitas. This is filling (I always have enough for the next day) tasty and delish. This compares to the middle eastern restaurants I have been in. They also have specials in the evening - turkey dinner, perogy dinner, etc. Really it is an icon. And if you haven't been there, you should really try it.

Monica I.

Yelp
Gluten free available with a high level of confidence!! A dedicated toaster for gluten free bread, although the kitchen is not dedicated wheat-free. Vegetarian options also on all their menus. Open for 31 years, they are no stranger to keeping Edmontonians and guests to our city well fed! Specials most days; Monday Fish & Chips (with gluten free beer if you like), Turkey Tuesdays, Ukrainian Thursdays (perogy night!), Short Rib Saturday, and Sunday night Prime Rib supper. Legendary weekday breakfast, (with cinnamon buns of enormous size - not gluten free), but weekend Brunch as well. We came most recently for the Fish & Chips on Mondays, but have dined at Ukrainian night as well as weekend brunches. The cod was battered well, crispy and delicious. Tartar sauce made in house and also tasty. The fries... while not my favourite part of the meal weren't bad. In-house made ketchup as well as the commercial stuff. Try both - you might be surprised. Sampled the grilled corn bread that's now gluten free. I missed the grilled part of the description and was a little surprised by the char. Served as a loaf slice. Don't forget to ask for the honey. It was pretty good, but I could only eat one piece. $5 gets you two pieces - so bring a friend or take the rest home! Note for the Celiacs - the gluten free beer they carry at the time I visited was Mongozo. Not a truly gluten free or wheat free beer, but if you can tolerate it, go for it! Word of warning, portions are not puny. Bring an appetite, or a container for your leftovers! The gluten free Mexican Lasagne... I don't see it on the menu now, but it used to come in a giant tinfoil pan when we ordered catering. Enough to feed 4... really good too. Oh yes, they cater lunches, so if your office is having a meeting - order ahead of time and pick up hot, delicious food. Decor, a little dark and cozy. Artwork & stained glass for sale, a great way to seek out new local artistans and gifts while you dine! There is a lovely outdoor patio in summer, sheltered with a plastic wind barrier in fall. Of note - they're closed Jan 21, 2015 for a Top to bottom Cleaning Party. The website says: The entire diner from top to bottom gets cleaned - the kitchen (including the stoves and all the appliances), all the floors, the windows, the walls, the ceiling.... everything gets cleaned. This semi-annual all-day cleaning is in addition to the on-going day-to-day cleanliness policies that we practice. BULLY! Not afraid to lose income for a couple of days a year to keep the place hygienic and safe to eat at! Parking... street, some in the lot by the fence. Park carefully and don't forget to register your plate in the book as you walk in. To get here: Walk across the High Level Bridge from downtown, or take the LRT to University and wander over. Bike racks, but they're usually pretty full.

Yelp
A few things to say. First parking sucks! At least on a Sunday for brunch. But when you get inside things get better. First the service is great. Coffee never got low. The food was good, our table tried two different eggs benny, porridge and an omelette. All given positive reviews. I didn't have a ceaser that day but was told it to was great. I believe the pricing was fair for a breakfast joint. My only other beef was how loud it was. At a table of five I couldn't hear 2 people down from me. But overall a nice little place for breakfast!

Katherine H.

Yelp
This place is pretty good but is one of my favorite ones just because of the cinnamon buns!!!!! That's the reason I stop there every time just to get a cinnamon bun and I always ask for the caramel bourbon sauce love dipping my cinnamon bun on it lol, good place to go for breakfast, like the old diner vibe!

Nicole M.

Yelp
Yes yes yes yes The best eggs benny in town. It's so hard to find an eggs benny that is not only good but is different too and this is it! They are very generous on salt and butter which I know sounds like a heart attack waiting to happen but it's not as intense as it sounds - it's just done significantly better than other breakfast joints I've been to. Their sauce was so buttery and creamy, I couldn't get enough of it. Of course the eggs were done perfectly and the bread and back bacon were easy to cut through. The meat wasn't overly seasoned which was nice because it prevented the dish from becoming over powered with flavor. The potatoes - were done perfectly AND very seasoned! I cant tell you how many times I've gone to a restaurant and the potatoes were just lumps of starch on my plate. These guys had pazaaz, it was wonderful. Their house made ketchup was a perfect pair to the breakfast. It was essentially a pasta sauce! It was on the runny side and quite simply just tasted like tomatoes - perfect for the already well seasoned dish. I also tried their mandarin juice (I believe it was called?) Which had a bit of soda and other fruitt flavors in it. Although I always have my morning coffee with breakfast I thought the juice was a really refreshing substitute. The boyfriend and I shared their famous cinnamon rolls with their bourbon sauce and Oh. My. Goodness. No wonder it's so well known. I've never had a cinnamon bun like it! If you're checking this place out you have to at least get one to go they are to die for! Crunchy brown sugar coating on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside and that sauce beats any powdered sugared glaze I've had. They absolutely destroyed the cinnamon bun game for anyone else. The restaurant is seems small but seats a lot of people! It was packed with everyone from kids to college students to older folks. Surprisingly though it wasn't too loud, and we had a nice little seat by the window. I loved the inside of the restaurant, it was very grandma-folky. Our waitress was kind and attentative, she gave us time with the menu and didn't rush us. Parking was a bit of an 'issue' but it always is in the morning. We just parked a street over and walked a block which wasn't a huge deal. Overall it was a great experience and im certainly coming back to try more!

Yelp
A great deal! Loved their breakfast special, everything is fresh and well prepared. The coffee is great, also love the muffins. Next time I'm getting a cinnamon bun.

Yelp
Went for brunch yesterday, finally got to try their "famous" cinnamon buns after several disappointing attempts. We ordered what happened to be the last two buns as soon as we sat down. I highly recommend you do this, especially on the weekends. They are BIG and quite shareable. We were four people and shared the two. We also ordered brunch. Take note, half a cinnamon bun really fills you up. Order something small to eat with it, not a full entrée! The buns were soft, warm, cinnamon sugar deliciousness. Too bad I found out later you coyld order a caramel sauce to put on it. Not dry as in not moist. They were a bit dry as they do not come with any icing. The caramel sauce is apparently the same as the one they put on their bread pudding. So, if you like it, you will probably enjoy it on the buns. We all ordered the eggs Benedict. Three Florentine, one regular with back bacon. Sides of potatoes, tomatoes and fruit cup were also ordered. Everything was quite tasty. The Florentine comes with fluffy puréed mixture of spinach and cream on top of two Englisgh muffins under poached eggs and lovely hollandaise sauce. The amount of sauce was perfect. Enough for each bite of eggs bennie without drowning the lot. Only recommendation is if you like your yolk a bit on the runny side, be sure to adk. Mine was too cooked for my liking. I enjoy a runny yolk on my English muffin. The regular eggs bennie, was the same but with a thick slice of back bacon instead of spinach. The hasbrown potatoes were nicely fried chunks of red spuds lightly seasoned. We added the homemade ketchup to them. Wish I hadn't. Even though their ketchup is good, it contains garlic and herbs, and is more of an Italian tomato sauce than a traditional ketchup. I like traditional ketchup on my fried potatoes. The fruit cup was just a regular cup of fresh seasonal fruits, nothing to write home about. The drinks ordered were thoroughly enjoyed by all: Awesome mango frappa (blend of mango and orange juices, yogurt and honey), chai latte, and a refreshing pear spritzer (pear nectar and soda). The brunch menu is not a long one. If you are looking for plain ham, bacon and eggs, you will not find them on the menu. You will find eggs Benedict, waffles, French toast and pancakes. From the line up all the way up the door. I think the other menu items are probably pretty tasty too! Definitely will return to try other menu items. Expect a 20 minute wait on the weekends.

Yelp
I am never disappointed when I go to the High Level Diner. It has been an institution of the Garneau food scene for as long as I can remember. Whether I'm strolling in for lunch with friends or stumbling in to cure my hangover, I always leave with a full tummy and a smile on my face. The whole feel of the place just puts me at ease. Perhaps it is because in some way it reminds me of my childhood, family cabin; creaky wood veranda, quirky pieces of art, odd ball but endearing furniture... and when it really pours outside, the roof leaks into that soothing sound of drops falling into tin buckets. The entire menu is excellent, but my absolute fav's have to be the puffy wild blueberry pancakes, the spinach pie (don't tell grandma, it better then her's) the tebouleh salad and the to-die-for Monte Cristo sandwich which only makes a weekly appearance on the menu. They also have great deserts, a separate brunch menu from the breakfast list, and they have an entire celiac menu as well! So next time you are in the mood for some comfort, as well as comfort food, grab your umbrella, if its raining, and succumb to the sublime High Level Diner.

Yelp
This review is only based off our brunch meal. Husband and I walked over the bridge for an anniversary brunch. We had always heard great things about HLD but have never gotten the chance to check it out. We waited for about 20 minutes before we were seated, as it was packed for the Labour Day brunch rush. The brunch menu is quite small. I ordered the classic benedict with roasted potatoes. Hubby ordered the farmer's omelette with multigrain toast, and we ordered one of their legendary cinnamon buns to share (sidenote: Edmontonians really have a thing for cinnamon buns. And green onion pancakes. As a Vancouverite I always found this amusing). The food took awhile to come but service was otherwise efficient. Our waters were refilled throughout the meal. The benedict was all right, nothing special. I did like the back bacon, and the roasted potatoes were good with the home-made ketchup, but aside from this, there was nothing that particularly stood out about our meal. My husband was less impressed unfortunately. He wasn't a fan of his farmer's omelette and didn't even finish it; however he did compliment the multigrain toast. The cinnamon bun was all right too. But again, nothing to write home about. I was a bit disappointed because we had always heard about High Level's brunch and while there was nothing bad about it, I've had better in the city.

Yelp
My friend won a gift certificate here for dinner for 10 people. Despite it being busy and the size of the group the waiter was very quick and checked up on us a lot. Because of the large group, the bill automatically charges 15% tip and the waiter did not let this affect our service. (we have all been to other places where the waiter doesn't bother to come around because he/she knows he is guaranteed a tip already) My burger was alright, nothing special. But the desserts were fantastic, with ten people we ordered almost every dessert on the menu, Bread pudding, cheesecakes, crumble, flour-less chocolate cake, cinnamon buns, it was all great, impossible to decide which one was best. As well, the waiter was very sweet. Instead of keeping the extra money or rushing us through, he helped us keep track of the bill. He even came back to the table to tell us we had extra money and encouraged us to get more drinks and desserts to prolong our stay.

Yelp
Took a friend here for dinner on a Wednesday night and we both loved this place. We both had a cup of the soup of the day to start. They had 2 kinds a Pumpkin Spice and an Artichoke & Seafood Chowder. Both were AMAZING!!! For our meals we both ordered the Chicken and Cheddar Sandwich with fresh cut homemade fries.. yum.... I was beyond pleased with my meal!! The Sandwich I could eat every day! The bread was dipped in egg and fried with warm chicken salad and cheddar in the middle. My friend requested for the fries to be a little extra crispy and they had no problem accommodating her request. They were fried to perfection. Everything was so good and we were enjoying the ambiance so much that we deiced to stay a while longer and have some tea and desert. We shared a Blueberry crisp (I think that was the name) It was really good if I was to say one thing that I would have preferred would be more of the crisp (there was only a small layer on top) and I like my blueberries squished a little, probably just a personal thing. Overall had a great experience! My friend and I both agreed that we felt like we were at a cabin with nice home cooked yummy food. I wish I could go there during a winter storm, take off my snow suit and boots wait by a fireplace for our meal while drinking some nice hot tea. But that might be a little strange to the other patrons of the restaurant. I will be back highlevel diner!!!

Yelp
3.5 - I've been to this restaurant many times over the years. I very much love their Tabouleh Salad, it is one of the best. I appreciate that they make most of their food from scratch, including their ketchup. I appreciate that they openly post information on recent health inspections (they have a had a few violations this year) and pride themselves in cleanliness. Last Friday, at lunch, I headed there with my mom. My stomach had been a little temperamental so we picked a spot I trusted. Everything was off to a good start. We were greeted promptly and with kindness. We were sat down at a nice table near a window. After reviewing the menu we decided to split an order of Middle Eastern Appetizer Platter. When the platter arrived it looked beautiful! Before eating my mother asked the waitress if she could find out when the hummus was made. The waitress seemed put off by our question. Fair enough, I can see how not many people ask this. Although at the same time I must say it is completely reasonable to ask such a question. Especially in a restaurant that prides itself with a healthy environment and healthy food. She came back moments later and mentioned it was made on Wednesday (two days prior). Alright, I shouldn't have a problem digesting this. Overall the platter was good but the chicken wasn't. We both stopped eating it. Celebrating my mom's birthday we were quite excited to try a dessert. The waitress started by telling us the bread pudding was $2 off. Of course we were curious to know when the desserts were made. Again the waitress didn't seem too happy that we asked. I felt as though I had to explain why I was asking. She came back and told us the Bread Pudding was made on Monday (4 days prior). If this is why it is $2 off then customers should be made aware of why it is discounted. The Chocolate Cake, Pecan Caramel Fudge Pie and the Assorted Cheesecake were made on Wednesday (2 days prior) and they did not know when the Strawberry Rhubarb Pie and Wild Blueberry Crisp were made (what we wanted)!! What?!? How can you not know when food is prepared in a kitchen! I found this EXTREMELY disappointing. Needless to say we did not have a dessert. On a positive note, they brought us a free cinnamon bun with our bill that was made fresh that morning. We both enjoyed how delicious and fresh it tasted.

Yelp
I'd been meaning to try the Highlevel Diner for a while now, but every time I arrive I am greeted with a huge lineup. Finally, I found a free table for supper on a weeknight. The place was still quite busy, with servers working very hard. I liked the slightly artsy atmosphere and variety of the menu. I have heard about the excellent brunch served here, and many of the staff have been here forever. I settled on a veggie burger and fries. Like just about everything at Highlevel Diner, the patty and the fries here are home made. The patty was huge and full of grains. It somewhat reminded me of felafel - in fact, it would have tasted great with some tahini sauce. Accompanying the burger was a tray of unusual condiments, like beet relish and hot mustard. The fries were plentiful and delicious. My friend had the jumbalaya, which was a thick stew of rice, shrimp, sausage, and various other ingredients. I noticed other patrons having this dish, and while it is not my thing, it looked great. It was served with two thick slices of corn bread. The prices are reasonable and the service was good considering how busy the place was. I wish I was more hungry, because I wanted to try a dessert or some of the many non-alcoholic beverages on the menu. That will have to wait for another day.

Yelp
I have to say if you have one thing there. It's the cinnamon buns there. The service there is pretty good to. As well you can dine outside in a covered patio.

Yelp
Great place for a classic breakfast. No frills, simple and flavourful. The price is great and the servers are friendly.

Yelp
A very quaint little restaurant. I love that they support local growers and local artists. It is so refreshing to walk in and there is always something new hanging on the walls. The service is generally very efficient. The dinner menu has something for everyone. I love the freshness of everything. I had the salmon and it was the best fish I have had since I left the east coast. Two thumbs up! I can not wait to go back again.

Yelp
I love the Highlevel Diner. Even before I moved to Edmonton I would come here at every visit. I think that this place really speaks for itself - comfort food, casual, filling, and yummy. I come here with family members usually. The dinner menu is good and the atmosphere is great for casual conversation, its just the right amount of fancy for a nice night out. I think my favorite part of this place is their desert menu, I would recommend checking that out. So don't get too full on dinner! They also have a nice selection of unique beers! I remember trying a ginger beer there! The only thing is that it's impossible to find parking!

Yelp
It's been a while since I crossed the bridge and hit the Highlevel Diner, and since tonight's an evening of "elevation" - in the Saturday night sense of the word - both Highlevel and Transcend Cafe are on our hit list. OK, first of all, hello super-cute waiter! Your smouldering eyes are making me blush and want to look away. (Thank God for big menus at times like these!) As I regain composure my girlfriend chokes knowingly on her glass of agua, and I order a Lemon Hart rum & diet to douse the flames while she opts for Raspberry on the rocks - a feisty mix of vodka, Sour Puss Raspberry, cran and soda. My main dish is the Diner Club - real, juicy breast of chicken, savoury bacon and tomato on toasted multigrain - and a side of their Mediterranean tabbouleh, so delicious I am grateful for the generous heap on my plate and this evening's willpower to forgo my usual side of fries. What diner gives you side options of fries, salad, Caesar AND tabbouleh?!! That tomato-parsley-bulgar concoction is serious five-star stuff! My dining partner orders the Middle Eastern Appetizer Platter, and although we both cringe at the menu typo of the word "tzatziki" (we writer-proofreader-marketing-media types can be so pedantic) the food, I can happily say, was up to snuff; in fact, it exceeded snuff. Ambiance: cozy, classy, bustling and artsy. Loved the paintings and dangling stained-glass sun-catchers. Price point: fairly reasonable - although I found the nacho pricing silly: $10 for nachos but $2 extra for guacamole, $2 extra for sour cream, $2 extra for salsa and $2 extra for beef. Why not just call a spade a spade?! They're 18-dollar nachos!! Now that we are well-fed - with room left over for dessert - it's on and up to Transcend. I will be back to Highlevel in a heartbeat.

Yelp
Love it here every time. The eclectic Decore and the warm atmosphere is amazing. Gives you a good Edmonton vibe just off of White and across the river from downtown. Parking is difficult however it is worth the effort

Yelp
Always a treat for brunch! The Spinach pie and tabouli salad are some of my favourite items. Cinnamon buns are fabulous as well. Service is fairly good, hit or miss. Overall a great Edmonton hot spot.
