Basically they've thought of everything :) What a gem of a place! Super kind staff! When I arrived, I received a very helpful orientation to the amenities and a little "cheat sheet" booklet about the neighbourhood (where to eat, how to use the Metro etc). The bed was very comfortable and the room had everything I needed. There's coffee and tea in the lobby and even a system to keep your own items in the common fridge (I didn't take advantage of this myself, but it's a great idea!).

Great location. I stayed in a private room, which was loft style. Very space efficient! I had fun going up and down the ladder, but that experience may not be for everyone. The location is very in the middle of a lot of action. Many bars, little shops, and parks are walkable, or there's a few convenient bus stops nearby. They offer a lot of free toiletries in case you're missing a toothbrush, ear plugs, q tips, or other things. I attended a little mixer event in the lobby my first night; I'm pretty shy but got drawn up into conversations with people easily. They also have a kitchen area, which was useful for heating food up. Managing the dishes could probably get hectic if people didn't use the dishwasher properly, but I didn't see issues during my stay. More than anything, it is an AMAZING value in an expensive city!

I must say this is a fantastic hostel! It's already a great space as it is, but what makes it excel are the dozens of small, thoughtful additions: - the free toiletries in free-to-take baskets on every floor are incredible. On top of the usual shampoo, conditioner and soap, there are razors & shave cream, toothbrushes & toothpaste, eye masks for sleeping, face masks, pads & tampons, and new towels to swap out whenever you want. - free coffee, tea & hot chocolate available all day - plenty of books to read, two computers to use, a printer, and all sorts of boardgames - all sorts of free things to borrow (hair dryers, irons, coat hangers, etc) - not only a free washing machine and dryer, but also free laundry detergent?! I've never heard of such a thing, especially not in a hostel! Overall I highly recommend!

Google
Absolutely, loved this place for a solo stay. Very well kept. Only had one roommate first night. Total of 3 in room during stay. Plenty of bathrooms to use and two kitchens. Met some real nice friendly people. Location, location, was great, easy transportation to Union Station and the Capital. The staff was great with looking up bus schedule. Thanks staff for a great experience.

Google
We loved this place. Amazing location, inexpensive and friendly. One half is a hostel and one half is a hotel, so don’t be surprised by the hostel vibe when you walk in. Super friendly staff, great communal lounge. Our rooms were modest but efficient, the spaces had everything we needed. I would definitely go back. I was there with my three siblings, all of us middle-aged and used to creature comforts and we all really appreciated this place. Special thanks to Kennedy who made us feel most welcome.

Google
Great stays!! Clean and well equipped hostel, provides great services for the comfortable stay. The plus point was free usage of washer and dryer. There's a bus stop opposites the hostel. The are pubs at night running until 2 am.. but free ear plugs are provided. Free coffee and tea all day. Free toothbrushes and soap as well. Friendly staffs. But it's a bit expensive for the hostel 6 bedded dorm. And it's more than 1 hour by foot to the major attractions. Metro is 20mins away by foot. Good stay.

Google
Hostel-style hotel (some hostel rooms, some private rooms) in a great neighborhood. I chose this hotel for the value and enjoyed the experience. It's quirky, with a decidedly hostel (not hostile!) vibe. Rooms are basic and priced accordingly (albeit very elevated the days I was there). Location in Adams Morgan is excellent for those who want a night out, whether for food or for drinks/bars. Would be happy to stay here again when looking for low priced DC accommodations.

Google
You will not find a better place to stay in DC full stop! From the moment we walked through the doors of HighRoad, we felt welcomed and at home! The rooms are beautifully furnished, comfortable and incredibly clean. The hostel provides fresh towels daily and free toiletries. The common use kitchen is equipped with everything you could need to cook and store food. The hostel provides free laundry facilities which is so helpful when you're on the road. Step outside the door and you have two bus routes that take you down town in 15/20 minutes, not to mention a bevvy of restaurants, cafes and shops right on your doorstep in the Adam Morgans neighbourhood. The only thing negative thing about HighRoad is that it makes other hostels feel rubbish in comparison!

Yelp
Chill spot , the private room was great . Super convenient. Staff was nice and always available

Yelp
I stayed here from Friday, 02-23-24 thru 02-25-24. I completed online check-in prior to arriving; check-in upon arrival was a breeze. The staff was pleasant each time I encountered them, which was often as I was in and out Friday and Saturday. I used the lobby area for dinner one night and each time I waited for an Uber. I enjoyed seeing the diversity of the fellow guests. I had an issue with the person in the bunk below me. They moved my shoes and then came out of the bathroom, interrupted my phone conversation, and told me that they'd moved my shoes because they were near her head, which was completely false. I was able to communicate with the front desk without leaving my bed as I was exhausted from traveling. They promptly replied, said they would communicate with her, and gave me the option to move to a different space. I did not take them up on that offer because I didn't feel like moving my belongings nor risking having another issue. This was my second time using a hostel. The bed was comfortable. The locker space was enough for my luggage and belongings. My only issue was sometimes forgetting to duck down getting in and out of the bed. Being on the top bunk, I couldn't always sit all the way up straight. I'm assuming that that experience will vary according to your height. Not wanting to disturb others the mornings I'd leave early, I sometimes used the restrooms in the hallway. It took a while for the hot water to come on in the hallway bathroom closest to room 223. The shower in that bathroom sprayed quite a bit, so a shower cap is recommended if you're not wanting to wash or get your hair wet. The other hallway bathroom's shower didn't spray, but the sink temperature was opposite; nothing major. The linens were clean, but I did notice hair near the wall as I plugged up my electronics to charge. Probably could stand to wipe the area next to the bed down when linens are changed. I enjoyed my weekend in DC and would definitely return to this property for another solo trip.

Yelp
The General Manager, Jennifer, was completely inflexible, and ultimately untruthful. When I arrived to check in it became clear there was an inadvertent error in my booking date. Jennifer offered a room for to night, but would not credit anything from the prepaid reservation a week in the future. When I contacted the booking agent, they told me that Jennifer told them that no rooms were available for the night, however I have proof she lied to them. I will provide the proof to the booking agent. I would not recommend this establishment. Bad experience. Bad customer service. Jennifer is essentially stealing $275 from me. I will continue to pursue all remedies.

Yelp
It's clean, has modern appliances, has friendly and helpful staff, and has an overall great atmosphere. It's extremely affordable, and the location is prime.

Yelp
Wonderful front desk service, clean room, and friendly staff all around. Amenities are above and beyond and we loved our stay!

Albert S.

Yelp
One of the best places I've stayed at in DC. My wife and I got a private room on the 2nd floor overlooking 18th street. We were probably the oldest people in the building, lol. But that didn't matter, what was so awesome about the place was the amount of amenities provided for everyone. Coffee, a kitchen, a working area, sundries, etc. The room was small by american hotel standards, but we stayed in Paris and the room was about the same size. So for us, it was perfect. The people running the place were awesome. So very friendly. I was so surprised how quiet it was being so close to some of the nightlife on 18th. It was such a great experience. Highly recommend.

Yelp
A hostel is a good way to cheap out but most are creepy. Highroad Hostel isn't like most of these. It actually has friendly staff and visitors. Good if you're coming to DC alone. There's a sense of community you won't find in a hotel. Hostels are often thought of as creepy. It's a lot different here. The place is pretty clean for a hostel. It's just not as clean but still not that bad in the bathrooms. One very cool thing is that they provide shampoo and soap. Most hostels won't give you anything. The main floor has the bathrooms, the community room, and kitchen. In the morning is a complimentary breakfast. There's cereal, juice, and pastries. A stay in the backpackers dorm is about $23 to $30 a night. The cheapest option is the mixed dorm, where they mix in men and women. It seems to be mostly men. There may be a few women but they're usually all together in their own rooms. Checking in and out is easy. They accept credit cards and they put a hold on your account that's taken off after you leave. A bad thing is that it's not real close to a Metro station, but it's close to the bus. They have all kinds of free information at the front where you check in. It also seems hostels are often in bad locations. It's another thing different about this one. The neighborhood is very cool and there's lots of bars and restaurants.

Yelp
Please do yourself a favor and skip out on the Airbnbs and hotels in DC. If you're traveling alone or with another person, Highroad Hostel is THE place to stay. Their prices are more than fair for what you get! I stayed in a 14 person "Backpacker Dorm." I'm balling on a budget so I didn't really care how many people are in the room. However, I do not recommend this room if you are a light sleeper. Luckily I am not so I did not have any issues. The hostel also provides ear plugs and eye masks! They provide toothpaste, shampoo and many more toiletries if you forget anything. I really appreciated the attention to detail! The rooms were generally clean and my bed had no problems. The bathrooms were sometimes dirtier depending on when you were using them. What can you expect though? It's all communal! The front desk workers were all really friendly and helpful. I didn't encounter any that were rude! I really liked the vibe. They loved socializing with us and a group of us even went to the bars with them. To the owners of the hostel, please give all of these workers a raise haha. They deserve it! The area is also another pro. Right by the bars, not too far from Capitol Hill. Amazing. 5/5 experience. If you love socializing or you just want a place to sleep, definitely book a bed here!

Yelp
I have stayed at half a dozen hostels over the years. The HighRoad Hostel in Washington DC is the best hostel that I have stayed at so far. To start with, the hostel is an old mansion converted into a hostel. The conversion was done well, and everything is well maintained. The hostel is also *very clean* -- they do a thorough cleaning every day. The location is good -- it's walkable to most places. For a few farther away places, you can either use public transit, or you can take an Uber or Lyft for $8 or $10. Free breakfast is provided in the mornings, and they usually have snacks (or a bit more) in the evenings. The staff is really what makes this hostel so great. Every staff member is super friendly and welcoming. They also organize a lot of social outings. I highly recommend this hostel.

Yelp
This is the best hostel I have stayed in. I will be back. Clean. Good staff. Very efficient. Fantastic service.

Yelp
My friend and I visited DC for two days and stayed in HighRoad for two nights. Our stay was absolutely fantastic, and I would 100% stay there again and recommend it to friends and family. To start off, the building is incredibly beautiful - a Victorian style facade with huge and well-decorated common areas. There are so many great places to sit and chat or read a book and drink coffee. A giant kitchen houses anything and everything you could need to cook - I didn't utilize them, but it was nice to see. They offered a free basic breakfast both mornings we were there (oatmeal, cereal, toast, coffee, tea). The neighborhood around the hostel is hopping, with many bars, restaurants and shops within walking distance. Two very nearby bus routes can take you to all the places you will need to go during your stay (downtown, Union Station, Chinatown, etc.) My friend and I stayed in a 6-bed, mixed room and had a bunk together. The beds weren't the most comfortable thing in the world, but after a long day of jaunting around DC, it was a perfect place to lay my head. The room was quiet, and the other occupants were nice and respectful. The bathrooms were AMAZING. So much room, so many hooks, clean showers/stalls. Clean towels and sheets were provided. To top it off, right before my train home, I was able to take advantage of Sunday night's Pancake and Tater tot Night! All in all, I would absolutely recommend staying at HighRoad. The house was great, the staff was helpful and friendly, and it was 100% worth the price.

Kelvin P.

Yelp
I think this could be the best value you'll find in the DC hostel world ;). It's not the most cheap option, but what you get is far outweighs the extra $10 you pay. By that I mean you get a new hostel, memory foam mattresses (i.e. a good night's rest), vicinity to nightlife, fantastic front desk (these guys rock), fantastic kitchen, fast wifi/free computers, and INDIVIDUAL full baths that never require a wait. If you have travel companions, I'd recommend checking HotelTonight / Hotwire etc to see if splitting a hotel room makes more sense. Weekend hotel rates in DC are usually low but can fluctuate drastically depending on season. For single travelers, this hostel is probably the best option.

Yelp
When I travel, I try to find the most reasonably priced sleeping accommodations possible and I keep my options open. To my surprise, there were quite a few Hostels in the Washington, DC area. I found them on hostels.com because I've used this website in the past and so far I've gotten pretty good representations of the hostels posted on this website. The hostels' pictures look exactly how the hostels look on the interior and exterior. I actually did find this hostel on Yelp as well, but there was not a lot of information about the important specifics of this hostel. When I arrived, the staff was nice, friendly, and knowledgeable and I was happy to see that this hostel looked just like in the pictures. I was not disappointed in any way. The place was very clean, everything looked new and up to date, there was plenty of room, there were private showers, large kitchen with plenty of pots and pans, plenty of sitting areas, etc. They even offered complimentary items such as a lock, shampoo, sleeping mask, and ear plugs. They have shower shoes for sale for 3.00. The beds were super comfortable since they were memory foam mattresses and the comforter was warm and fluffy. There was an iPad there so that you could route yourself to different places via metro or bus and there was this huge wall painting of the neighborhood to make it easier to navigate on your own. The wifi was fast and reliable and thru have days where dinner ja complimentary! The neighborhood is safe and is known as a popular area for bars and late night grub. While I didn't get the chance to experience the night life, it didn't get too loud in the hostel bc of the established quiet hours beginning at midnight. This hostel is a bit more expensive than some of the other hostels in the DC area, but the price is well worth it! P.S. Breakfast is not included in the price, but that's OKAY :)

Janice L.

Yelp
Hands down - the cleanest and most beautiful hostel I have ever stayed in. The foam mattresses were super comfy and there was no shortage of fresh linen, sheets, and towels. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The free locker with a lock and key provided me more peace at mind with my belongings. The other guests at the hostel were very kind and considerate. I didn't have to deal with any drunken assholes or crazy messy people. I even made a few friends while I was there during a free pasta night and while working in the lobby. The location was perfect because the conference I was attending was only a few minutes of a drive or walk away. Don't even get me started on the plentiful options for gyms, bars, and good food just seconds away. The monuments/national mall and museums are also in the area. I can't wait until I'm in D.C. again and will definitely stay at the HighRoad hostel. P.S. I follow them on Instagram for nostalgic purposes ^_^

Nick Z.

Yelp
This is an absolutely top-notch hostel -- and honestly you'd do yourself a disservice by staying in a hotel, not just because it'd be expensive, but because Highroad is probably nicer. Highroad is very welcoming and seems to encourage pro-social, considerate behavior. The common areas include a kitchen and a living roam. Bathrooms are plentiful, clean, and private. I am told there is a space where one can consume alcohol late at night upstairs, meaning there are no prohibitions to rebel against and people don't cause any commotion in the chiller common areas. This place is outfitted with new fixtures and furniture and is far cleaner at a given moment than my apartment is AFTER I clean it. Everything works really well and there is never anything out of place. I don't understand how they do it. Most hostels I've stayed at have an understandable feeling of bricolage -- the space was purchased in a certain state, and the managers are just trying to keep it afloat and fix things as they go. In this case, either a significant investment or just extremely savvy management and interior design skills create a cohesive feeling. It's very pleasant to be here and you trust that bedding, kitchen, showers, etc. are all clean and functioning. This is important in a hostel, especially for anyone out there with some discomfort about sharing stuff. I don't know if I'd ever stay anywhere else in DC.

Tony L.

Yelp
Great hostel! I've been to hostels all around the world, and I'm so glad I can rely on this one in DC whenever I visit. This was my first time, and the staff and visitors were friendly and welcoming. I also came in when they had an ice-cream social, which I appreciated. They have a beautiful kitchen that you should take advantage of, as well! They also provide sheets and towels for you, as well as a lock, ear plugs, and an eye mask.

Dewan A.

Yelp
Amazing! 1) The hostel is very clean and friendly. 2) It has been years since I last lived in a hostel, feels good. 3) I will highly recommend this place.

Michaela M.

Yelp
My stay at Highroad Hostel was great! I never stayed at a hostel before, and my experience was all positive. The location is great in the Adams Morgan neighborhood. It's an eclectic neighborhood with diverse food options, plus a nice area to come back to after being in more congested tourist places. Best of all, it's close to everything; different neighborhoods like Georgetown, the Capitol Mall, etc. In fact, I used a bike to get from the Capitol Mall to the hostel in under 30 minutes. (Side note: Using the Capital Bikeshare was my 2nd best choice after choosing this hostel--makes a HUGE difference in getting around Capitol Mall). Anyway, the hostel is very cozy, artsy, and spacious (super comfy beds!). My main concern was having my own headspace to relax comfortably in my room (8 bed female room). Thankfully, everyone really kept to themselves and were mindful about space in the rooms. In the common rooms/kitchen area, there's plenty of space to do work, watch tv, chat, cook, etc. I mainly went out to eat, but ate breakfast at the hostel since they offered it for free (cereals, bread, coffee, etc). Last of all, the place is welcoming to all age ranges. Great, friendly staff. Would stay again!

Allison R.

Yelp
This place is outstanding. Clean, friendly, and a wide range of ages so I didnt feel like the only or oldest person at 44 years! I like this style of travel and this was perfect. Beautiful building and great neighborhood. I wish more hostels were like this!

Ayanna C.

Yelp
I was visiting for the weekend and didn't want to drop a lot of cash on a hotel for such a short stay so I looked into hostels with some apprehension but I ended up enjoying my stay at Highroad Hostel. Amenities include complimentary toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste), free lock for your locker, earplugs, towels and fast WiFi. I booked a bed in the 4-bed mixed dorm and ended up having the room to myself so maybe I didn't get the full hostel 'experience' but I can't complain. I was impressed with the cleanliness of my room and the shared bathroom. I didn't spend much time in the common areas but they looked cozy with ample seating and the kitchen was modern and spacious. The location is a bit far afield for those interested in the main tourist attractions but there are several convenient bus stops just steps away to get you where you need to go or you can walk to the Metro. The neighborhood was quite active on Saturday and Sunday nights but the vibe inside the hostel was always calm and quiet.

Leslie C.

Yelp
Great safe area with fun nightlife/food options. The hostel is kept in great shape/very clean. Friendly front desk staff. Rooms are a nice size and comfy. Wa had some water pressure issues in #1, but everything else was great. Price is worth it. Great pancake brunch on Sundays. It is about an hour walk to the National Mall/Lincoln Memorial/Washington Monument/etc. the neighborhoods around are cool to walk through. Uber/Lyft are available in DC and great to get around if walking is too much. I would stay here again!

Kirsten C.

Yelp
By far the best hostel I've stayed in. It's super clean considering the normal hostel wear and tear. The beds are suuuuuper comfy compared to most. It's super cute and I'm a great spot. Close to the bus station and lots of bars and food options. I would absolutely stay here again. They have great continental breakfast options as well. The fridge even has a water and ice dispenser! Super impressed by this hostel and definitely recommend it.

Sunny C.

Yelp
My friend and I stayed here for a couple of days (in the female dorm room) and I had a very pleasant experience. This is a much cheaper option than booking a hotel room and perfect for those who just need a place to sleep. The facilities are very clean and the staff are friendly. When you walk in, you can easily check in at the front counter and there are sofas in the living room area as well as a large table for those that want to get work done. There is a large kitchen as well for those who would like to cook something. Would definitely come back again if I am staying in the DC area. My only qualm was the weak stream in the showerhead, but I suppose it's good for saving water.

Sarah B.

Yelp
This is probably the cleanest hostel I've ever stayed at! There is a fairly large, clean and modern kitchen with complimentary coffee, tea and even cookies or cakes, and a nice common seating area with couches and tables in the lobby. The staff are very pleasant and accommodating, rooms are clean and simple, with comfortable memory foam mattresses and the showers were clean, warm and had nice soft bath mats. Really nothing to complain about! They even provide towels, shampoo, soap, earplugs, sleeping masks and locks for the room lockers FREE of charge. Awesome. Thank you and keep up the good work and cleanliness!

Adriana E.

Yelp
This place is great! I stayed here for a weekend and the folks that work there are excellent. Everyone there makes you feel like an old friend, so you never feel like you're surrounded by strangers. I was in an 8 person dorm but everyone was quiet, clean, and respectful. Everything is upgraded--from the shared kitchen and bathrooms to the amazingly comfortable beds. Seriously, it was like a cloud! Every bed has a memory foam pad and down comforter. Only setback I remember was the water pressure and temperature in the showers. Not too bad though and fine for the weekend stay. Would definitely stay again.

Kristy C.

Yelp
Great hostel! I didn't get to stay here very long because I had an early flight the following, but I did have a great experience regardless. This is probably one of the better hostels in the DC area. Staff was friendly. My room was nice. Would stay again!

Taryn S.

Yelp
This hostel is on the expensive side, but very reasonably priced considering how modern and nice the facilities are and also condsidering the high price of other accomodations in the Washington D.C. area. My favorite part has to be the clean individual bathrooms and showers that are always available and always have hot water! I only stayed here one night as I was passing through D.C. on a layover to Europe. I stayed as a single female and felt very safe in the 10 bed mixed room downstairs. The staff were very nice! They let me print my airline boarding passes out for free. They even had a nice family style pasta night for dinner on the day I was there. I didn´t eat there because I wanted to try one of the excellent restaurants just down the way instead. My only issue with this place is the lack of street parking in the area and the extremely confusing parking signs that lead me to get a $40 parking ticket. If you´re staying with a car, my recommendation would be to splurge for the 24 hour parking garage that they recommended just down the street for the $20+ daily rate.

Vladan N.

Yelp
I do not exaggerate when I say that the Highroad hostel is the best hostel in DC! Everything is perfect! The place is brand new, clean, really bright. The management and the whole team are really great! They are super nice and they always try to help you however they can. The hostel is very clean. They provide free breakfast or dinner few times a week (mac'n'cheese, pasta, garlic bread, pancakes, hot chocolate...). They also provide free ear plugs, luggage tags, city maps, and whatever else you might possibly need :) They will even print document for you, free of charge, of course, of reasonable size :) The place is made in such a way to promote networking and meeting other guests. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking, and most of the guests use it to prepare food. There's plenty of storage space in the kitchen, both in and outside of the 2 huge refrigerators. The place is pretty secure, with card keys, instead of a plain keyboard where you type a code. Beds are very comfortable and the showers are very clean. If you are looking for a great place to stay in DC, look no more!

David T.

Yelp
I haven't been hosteling in over 20 years but I wish the places I stayed during college were like HighRoad. Not only was it immaculate, but they seemed to have thought of everything! There was free shampoo and soap as well as complimentary coffee all day. The bathrooms as well as the dorms were immaculate and they even put a little sign on your bed to greet you. The mattresses were super comfy and the cot even included a reading light. Every amenity made me that much happier that I'd dared to spend my time in D.C. at a place for young people with much higher thresholds for inconvenience than myself. They've inspired me to look into hostels again for my next vacation, which will be overseas! Thanks HighRoad!

McKenzie M.

Yelp
Had a very great experience here! Staff is SUPER friendly and helpful, rooms and bathrooms are clean, beds are comfy. The amenities (free toothpaste/shampoo, breakfast, tea, etc) are generous and they take care of everything you need. They even let us check in early when we arrived at 1 p.m. because the beds/room were already ready, which was a godsend after taking redeye flights. They let you keep your bags in the common area for free before check-in/after check-out, which was really helpful--we were able to leave our suitcases and go explore the nearby zoo. Thank you Highroad!

AJ L.

Yelp
Great area, especially for someone new to DC. Plenty of places to eat, drink, and the like. Very charming overall, including the interior. Free coffee and tea all the time. Generally clean and relatively new furnishings, at least for a hostel that sees hundreds of people a year. Prices are also quite reasonable considering that I found this place (based on good reviews) after switching from a lesser reviewed hostel within 24 hours. The front desk was also efficient and informative. Free padlocks (if you return after use), lockers, soap (unfortunately didn't see any shampoo), and towel. And coin laundry. A huge living room space and dining table and kitchen, so plenty of socializing opportunities if that's your thing. Also, a surprisingly responsive staff who will meet your needs/complaints in a jiff.

Hahn J.

Yelp
I stayed there from for some time and my impression of this hotel just blows me away. First thing that greeted me when I walked in was the friendly staff working there, checking in was a breeze, with some house rule explained to me by the staff and afterwards, I was given the key to my room and a small pad lock to keep my things safe. The decor of the hostel is very homely, with large flat screen TV, netflix, cable and other channels available for you to watch while sitting comfortably in the living room. Kitchen is very large and well-equipped. There are 2 large fridges and tons of cupboards to store your own food. If you are a traveling chef, cooking up a gourmet meal is not a problem with the amount of pots and pans they have there. There are a couple of room types for you to choose from, each beds are equipped with nice soft and comfortable mattress and pillow, with a cosy blanket in case you feel cold. Rooms are very clean and there are cleaners cleaning the rooms every morning as well as other times of the day. Common areas like toilets, kitchen, bathrooms are kept very clean as well. Cleaners will also change your towels for you everyday. The hostel is located at Adams Morgan, close to Dupont circle and many sightseeing places in DC. Counter staff are always happy to assist you in your queries and recommend places to see or things to do around the DC area. There are days where free food is provided to the staff, like Mac n Cheese/Pasta night, Ice-cream social or Sunday pancakes, all cooked by the staff there! Price wise, it's a bargain! You get hotel quality stay at a fraction of the price! If anyone is planning to visit DC for a few days, this place is the place to stay!

Sarah L.

Yelp
If you're visiting D.C and need a place to stay, I highly recommend Highroad. While it's a little pricey, I think it's worth it. Why? The staff is super friendly, the entire hostel is clean and well-maintained, and the space is really cozy. With outlets everywhere, steady WiFi, individual showers, and complimentary breakfast (this may not be everyday. I'd double check with the staff), you're good to go. I slept like a baby and the sheets/blankets were super soft. A towel was provided free of charge. The lockers are awesome and there's a reading light on each bed. This really came in handy when my roommates were sleeping, and I needed light to gather some of my things. There's a Starbucks, McDonalds, Korean restaurant, pizza shop(s), diner, and cafe on the main street, and the nightlife is very real. Yes, it did get loud at night but it didn't disrupt my sleep at all. I don't want to leave :( Thanks Andrew! :)

Yelp
Amazing place, great location. Staff are super friendly. They have fun events planned regularly so everyone can socialise and get to know one another.

Yelp
This hostel is amazing. Has all the normal things a hostel would offer but it's all upgraded. Best mattresses in the DC area, hotel type amenities and service. It is immaculately clean, organized, and spacious. They offered personal hygiene products making it so simple for air travelers unable to pack these things. The front desk was able to book tours and provide free padlocks to use during my stay. The only other comparable hostel in the area is Hi Washington, which is outstanding as well - but I'd have to say Highroad might slightly out edge Hi Washington DC. STAY HERE!

Yelp
If I could give more than 5 stars I would!! I have the fondest memories of HighRoad. The hostel is kept impeccably clean, the staff is so friendly and helpful (special shoutout to Miyuki), it's in the best spot in all of DC, and the vibe is so appealing. The hostel itself is designed beautifully. The rooms have hardwood floors, comfortable beds, you get a fresh white towel right when you check in, there's free coffee and tea downstairs, a huge kitchen detailed with spacious marble counter tops, a front desk open 24 hours, a lounge looking onto Adams Morgan. This is the best hostel I've ever been to. I guarantee you will love it. After having gone to this hostel and this part of DC, my family and I have started looking into relocating to the area all the way from FL. We love you HighRoad

Yelp
I stayed here about a month ago and I have to say, it's definitely a bargain if you're looking to spend a night in DC. I've never been in hostel before and I was admittedly a little apprehensive staying here, but the place is fantastic. The staff are very helpful and inviting and the place itself is pretty well-maintained. Everyone mostly keeps to themselves and there's even free breakfast in the mornings! The location is pretty sweet and there's plenty of stuff to do nearby. Definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
Hands down the best hostel I've ever stayed in. The whole place has a real homey feel with a kitchen for all to use and a lounge and dining area. The staff are friendly and helpful - on the first day I asked where to go to get my phone repaired and was immediately directed to a tiny shop that repaired it for me in an hour for just $80! They have events such as pasta dinners, ice cream socials and pancake breakfasts so you can get talking to fellow travelers, however it's just as comfortable to do your own thing me treat it like your home from home while you're traveling. I extended my stay here because I love it so much!

Yelp
I had an amazing experience staying at this hostel! This place far exceeded my expectations. The staff is probably the best part of this gem! Congrats on getting it right!

Yelp
I love hostels! Now that I'm over 30, I am wary of ones that have too much of a party culture. This one is perfect for you if you're wanting to find an affordable & nice place while on a work trip. I paid about $300 for one week (vs $2100 if I had gone with the conference hotel). Would definitely return! Pros: *Nice 20 min walk to the conference each day *Half of the other inhabitants also appear to be here for work -- which tempers the atmosphere. It was easy to feel like I could be social, but also be able to focus on working at the communal table in the evenings when I had to handle emails. *As mentioned above, far more affordable than a hotel *Fridge and pantry space for your food. *Large kitchen with plenty of space. Although it sometimes was quite busy, I never felt like I wasn't able to cook, eat, etc. due to others. *Super quaint neighborhood with lots of budget/moderate priced areas to eat nearby. Plus Obama lives nearby! *Staff both publishes to the website and sends out via email very detailed information about the hostel and surrounding logistics. *Staff are approachable, friendly, and good at their jobs. They have a super organized system to manage the hostel and maintain it well. Update: *I used lyft a lot -- since the conference regularly ended after dark and I was told that a single woman may not want to walk home in the dark on quiet streets. Lyft is super affordable, I sometimes tried the Lyft line option which can save money -- but ultimately decided to mostly just ride by myself to make it to my destination more quickly. *Laundry machines are available and far cheaper than hotel prices. $8 to wash/dry all my stuff at this hostel vs $8 at a hotel to have them handle a dirty shirt. Cons - negligible: *Always running late to the conference because it is a 20 min walk *Some walking distance from the nearest metro. I hate buses as I always get lost -- so the metro is my preferred transit. There's a bike share option too, but DC traffic is less bike friendly than I'm used to in Minneapolis & I didn't bring a helmet. It would be nice if the hostel offered helmet rentals? Although Lyft or Uber are options, I had some trouble using it one night & I also wanted to keep costs low. *In a shared room with 5 other women, it can get loud at night even when people are trying to be considerate. The main bedroom door is a bit noisy, you can hear people rustling late at night or early in the morning, etc. But that is just the reality of sharing a hostel room and one that you sign up for! It was a minor issue for me since I had on an eye mask and am not bothered by noise very much. *Update: surprisingly, it's easy to sleep with a snorer who is across the room from you. so I was surprised the last night when I had a snorer sleep right under me. She was very loud and I slept restlessly - even with a headset on the whole night.

Yelp
My first time staying in a hostel! I was super skeptical but I loved my entire stay. The staff(wish I could remember everyone's name) super helpful and really upbeat. It's a welcoming environment. Not gonna ramble on, but they get 5 stars any day. I've already recommended it to my domestic and international friends whenever they visit DC. You guys have a solid thing going here! I'll be back soon!

Yelp
This was the first hostel I ever stayed at and I loved the experience! Not only is it incredibly clean, modern and well maintained, but the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. There are outlets everywhere, perfect wifi service, amazing beds, plenty of individual bathrooms and showers, a huge kitchen with two fridges, and an awesome hang out main room with a large TV that has everything you could possibly want on it. Also, as this was my first time really visiting DC, I can say this hostel was in a really great place. Though it's not really walking distance from most of the major monuments and museums, it's a very close uber and it's right on a street that has some really amazing nightlife, restaurants, and bars that are always packed on weekends. Special shout out to Miyuki! Amazing recs on local restaurants and bars that were all easy walking distance. Thanks girl! Really enjoyed my stay there, highly recommend!

Yelp
I was initially pleased by the location and aesthetic of this hostel only to be unconvinced by the irreconcilable behavior of the staff. As I was changing in my mixed dorm, the female concierge entered, unprovoked, to tell me that I had to dress appropriately or else I will be removed. Confused, I asked where I had agreed to a no-nudity policy, and the staff member could not provide an answer. Rather, she said it was for "Everyone's comfort" that I move to a female dorm. I informed her that I did not identify as female, and I found it very simple minded to declare my gender identity so authoritatively. She rejected my objections, and told me to move or else be kicked out of the hostel altogether. Upon questioning why she was slut-shaming me, the older woman told me my generation has "Lost decorum" that is a verbatim quote. I would not reccomend anyone queer or LGBT to stay here, lest you be vulnerable to the ignorant staff. A beautiful hostel, it could perhaps be helped by some sensitivity training. I would hope an education in anti-oppressive behavior would help towards creating a community in which all guests feel welcome.

Yelp
This hostel was absolutely great, with a great and helpful staff. The rooms were very clean, and the bed was very comfortable. The rules make the hostel quiet after 11 pm, and there was always hot coffee and breakfast food to get your day started right. The location was also a plus--right in the heart of Adams Morgan. Further, it was only a 15 minute walk to Dupont Circle. I hope to come back here again!

Yelp
I've never liked a hostel and its staff so much! The daily breakfast and free dinner every night were so nice, and they were always ready to help point me around the city. As someone who found the train/bus system super confusing, they were seriously helpful. Definitely recommend to anyone travelling alone and wanting to feel safe and comfortable.

Yelp
Stayed here for two nights. Phenomenal service. They even have a kitchen where you can cook your own stuff with free coffee and tea. The whole place is secure and access controlled with key cards. The staff are extremely helpful as well. And above all, the location is beautiful: right in the heart of Adams Morgan, the most happening part of D.C. Strongly recommended.

Yelp
Horrible handling of booking error and uncaring general manager. I booked this hostel through a booking site because it look wonderful and had a great location. With the great autumn weather and plans to meet friends in DC, I thought it would be fun to stay in Adams Morgan for an extended weekend and explore the city, something I rarely can do in a relaxing fashion because I live 40 minutes away and usually just go in for one activity. So, I read the info at the booking site where it stated what I needed at check-in; I had to be over 18 and have a government ID. I also cruised the hostel website. I booked my four nights, packed my bags, and had my daughter drop me at the metro. I rode in, walk to the hostel from the metro stop, arrived at the front desk. I handed over my ID and was told I couldnt' check in because I did not live at least 90 miles away and it was the hostel policy. I was stunned because nowhere when I booked did I see this condition nor did I see it while on the hostel website. But, yes, there was such a statement in tiny print no where near where one actually hits the button to book the hostel. When I pointed this out to Andy, the manager with the "I could care less" attitude, he refused to admit that such a strict rule should have a prominent place where one could actually not book without seeing that issue. I ended up having to take an Uber back home and my weekend was ruined. When I asked for the name of the owner, Andy refused to give me his name. I don't think I have ever run into a business who would send someone away over that kind of error; they would normally make an exception. I am a professional woman, not a homeless person seeking a cheap night's stay. They knew this and they knew that their poor information on both websites was unfair, yet, they coldly just sent me away. If they are going to have such a bizarre requirement (and I have never been at any other hostel that had one like this) it ought to be VERY prominent, so that people don't show up and end up without a place to stay. Oh, yes, and I asked Andy, as his name tag said, to please give me the name of the owner so I might contact him. He told me the owner was unavailable and he was unable to give me his name. Turns out, Andy is none other than Andrew Nimmer, who IS the owner of Belmont Realty which owns High Road on Belmont Road. So, not only is he an unpleasant human being, he is also a liar.

Yelp
I stayed here for the Womens March on DC and loved it. The people where lovely the location was nice, and the rooms clean and comfortable. The only slight inconvenience is its a few block from the Metro station, but that really wasn't much.

Yelp
One of the nicest hostels I've stayed at. Only 6 months old, the rooms and large kitchen are immaculate along with a large selection of individual bathrooms with showers. The staff is very nice and helpful. My nights were during the week so I didn't experience any weekend bar noise from busy 18th St. On the downside there's no free breakfast and the coin laundry only has two washers and dryers. It's not too near a metro stop but a 15 min walk to Woodley Park or DuPont Circle. The area seems pretty safe even late. It was a great place to stay for a bridge tournament at the Wardman Marriott.
