"No list of Vermont’s best breweries is complete without Hill Farmstead Brewery, which is consistently rated not just one of the best in Vermont, but in the world, according to RateBeer. Outside the tiny town of Greensboro in Vermont’s remote Northeast Kingdom, the history of this farm-turned-brewery goes well beyond its official 2010 establishment." - Jessie Beck

Delicious Beer! This Brewery is the Gold Star in craftsmanship in every aspect of beer, which will shine through in every beer style they release! Staff definitely has a strong northern hospitality, which comes with great knowledge and professionalism. Service was seriously top notch. Definitely do your research into their rules and policy around your visit. We came when reservations were required and drink limits were enforced, which makes sense once you understand where they are located and how delicious their beer tastes. They have a beer membership, but good luck getting into the club it’s known to be extremely exclusive. Definitely a dream membership to have, but will never happen. Their grounds are vast and beautiful especially when leafs are changing. Overall this brewery is a must visit if you’re a beer lover!

I was on a northeastern beer trip with a buddy last week and Hill Farmstead was on our list. We were greeted when we walked in by incredibly welcoming Natasha. She took us through some history and stories behind the beer while offering a sample of several. The entire experience was tremendous. The beer is world class, the setting is beautiful and the people (especially Natasha) are wonderful. It takes a while to get there but it is more than worth it!

Google
One of the best breweries in the US. Want an IPA? They gotchu. Czech pils? You know it! Funky brews and collabs? You got it! Everything I had today was spectacular and the staff was a great resource when I wasn't sure what to try next. Speaking of staff, they were all very helpful and nice. They were hugely attentive to ensuring the glassware was impeccably clean for each pour!

First visit from Connecticut. Just the drive to get up to this place was an experience alone. What a beautiful facility. Just beer, trees, mountains, Pizza and nothing.

Hill Farmstead Brewery is a 5-star experience through and through! The moment you arrive, you’re greeted with a charming, rustic atmosphere that perfectly complements their outstanding selection of craft beers. Each brew is thoughtfully crafted, with flavours that are complex, fresh, and incredibly satisfying. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and always eager to offer recommendations based on your taste. The beautiful Vermont countryside surrounding the brewery makes for a perfect setting to relax and enjoy a pint. It’s no wonder they have such a stellar reputation—this place is a must-visit for any beer enthusiast. Highly recommended!

I visited the brewery on Friday, 5/30, around 12:30 PM. My first stop was in the retail building which there was a line out the door. When I got to the front of the line, the staff member thanked me for my patient waiting which I was very appreciative of. The line goes slower than most brewery pickup lines but good things like their beer requires patience and they are very conscientious to ensure you get the order you've placed. My next stop was the tap room where the staff is always friendly. Enjoying a beer outdoors at Hill Farmstead is one of the best experiences if you like a picturesque setting and great beer.

Google
We drove four hours from Boston specifically to visit this brewery after hearing glowing reviews. We meticulously planned our entire weekend around it — double-checking their website and Google listing to confirm hours, making sure we came on Saturday since the taproom is normally closed Sundays. When we arrived, we saw a bustling outdoor event and got excited… only to be turned away at the door. Apparently, it was a private event. And we were just told to leave with no remorse or attempt at trying to make us feel like we didn’t waste a long drive for nothing. They told us we could come back Sunday — a one-time exception since they were closed Saturday for this event. That would have been helpful to know before we drove hours round-trip. But there was no mention of the private event or Sunday hours anywhere on their site or listings. This wasn’t just poor communication — it was a complete failure to consider how people outside the local area might rely on the information they provide. We left frustrated, empty-handed, and unlikely to provide any future business to this brewery.

Google
Hill Farmstead offers an aesthetically striking taproom housed in a beautiful wooden structure, complemented by picturesque surroundings. The brewery is renowned for its world-class beer selection, with attentive and welcoming staff enhancing the experience. Visitors should, however, be mindful of their beer preferences before arriving. The farmhouse ales, while highly rated, have a distinctive sour, wine-like quality that may not appeal to all palates. For those less inclined towards that style, the brewery’s more conventional beer options provide an equally high-quality experience.

Yelp
Updating my review after 10 years and countless visits. Still one, if not the best, brewery in the world. They basically nail all of the styles, from hoppy stuff to farmstead ales to stouts and everything in between. The staff here are always very friendly and helpful and always greet regulars and new visitors with a smile. Some tips: The bottle/retail shop for to-go items is the first building on the left. The tasting room is the larger building on the right. Always visit both spots. They tasting room will always have a nice selection of the freshies as well as special bottles pulled from their expansive cellar. They are both very kid friendly and dog friendly. Just no dogs in the tasting room. They usually have some cheese/olives for sale on site and during the warmer months they may have food trucks. However, there is no issue if you decide to pack some food with you to enjoy onsite.

Yelp
Hill Farmstead Brewery is a craft farm brewery that opened in Greensboro Bend, Vermont in 2010. It was founded by brewer Shaun E. Hill. The history of the farm property and estate date all the way back to 1791 when father and son Peleg Hill Sr. and Jr. first settled the land. The Hill family even helped with the founding of Greensboro and North Greensboro as well as the building of the first roads, mills and the first tavern in 1809 (owned and operated by Aaron Hill). Seven generations later, Shaun Hill would create his first homebrew as a high school science project. After working at a few small Vermont breweries, Hill accepted a position at Nørrebro Bryghus in Copenhagen, Denmark where he excelled under the mentorship of Anders Kissmeyer. After returning to the U.S. in 2009, Hill quickly put a plan together to open a brewery on his ancestral land. The logo for Hill Farmstead was inspired by the original Hill family tavern sign. The beer's popularity took off at an alarming rate and within a few years Hill had to expand from a small garage brewery to a much larger brewery, tasting room, production facility and packaging room. Throughout this time, the brewery would win several awards and accolades with some even calling it "the best brewery in the world". I recently visited Hill Farmstead for the first time while I was on a Vermont craft beer road trip. Although I had never been to the brewery before, I've heard nothing but fantastic things for well over a decade. I would always get excited anytime I would attend a bottle share and someone showed up with a Hill Farmstead beer. I arrived just as the brewery was opening for the day. The location is very isolated but beautiful. There weren't too many people there and there was plenty of seating in the taproom as well as outside on the grounds. The brewery production and packaging facility was also quite impressive. For my first draught pour, I enjoyed "Mosaic" (Single Hop IPA). Brewed exclusively with hand-selected Mosaic hops, it was absolutely delicious. Afterwards I enjoyed a pour of "Aaron: Bourbon/Cognac" (Barrel-Aged Barleywine). The 2020 Vintage was nothing short of fantastic! Before leaving, I visited the retail shop and purchased a bottle to take home. My first visit to Hill Farmstead was truly memorable and I hope to return!

Yelp
A true bucket list experience is visiting Hill Farmstead Brewing. They are on a gorgeous property that may be more impressive than the beers. But the beers are nothing to sleep on. The staff are also some of the kindest individuals that I have met in the industry. Providing lengthy explanations of the history of the brewery, the story behind the beers, and even showing a little bit of where the beer itself is brewed. I tried a few different beers ranging from their lagers to their barrel aged stouts - all some of my favorite beers I've had all year. Poetica 2024: A Czech Pilsner brewed with Saaz hops, brewed in a single decoction mash process, fermented with Czech & German lager yeasts strains in a French oak puncheon. Some tannins from the wood come through. Nice and bready with deep malt flavors and a pleasant spicy hop flavor. Wheat Blanc (03/16/2022): A Wheat Ale blended from 9 to 16 month wine barrel-aged ales hopped with Motueka from Freestyle Farms and Hallertauer Blanc hops from Seltz Farms. Bright and citrusy. A slight acidic bite to the beer, but not sour by any means. Medium-light in body. Lemon, lime, and hints of apple. The Order of Things 03: An Imperial Stout aged in Sherry Barrels for two years consisting of a blend of several Bourbon Barrels. This was brewed in honor of batch #1,000 and was deep and malty with complex Sherry notes from the barrel. Cocoa, espresso, and burnt caramel rounded out by bitterness that doesn't destroy the palate. _______

Yelp
Came on a weekend and they have so many people lounging around and bringing kids and dogs. Overall, very relaxing vibe but definitely not an easy place to get to and has limited cell service. Luckily, they have free WiFi if you need to look up instructions on how to get home. Even if there are a lot of people, the line moves pretty quickly and you can sample a few beers before purchasing! I love their concept of naming beers after their ancestors. Lastly, they also had a food truck if you need food.

Yelp
I've been making the pilgrimage to Hill Farmstead for 9 years now, and the excitement and intrigue never fades with each visit. The setting is 2nd to none, and if you're into excellent and well thought out recipes along with awesome vintage offerings, this is your place. The crew including Denise, Anne, Gabe, Will, and Natasha are always so warm and welcoming and treat you like family. Highly recommended for any beer enthusiast's bucket list journeys. Cheers !

Yelp
I've been a Vermont beer fan for years, all great beers across the state. But, this one is out front in my opinion. Great selection of beers, all intricately crafted and tastes amazing! Staff is also super friendly, knowledgeable, and let you sample all that they have on tap before you buy a drink. Also have a separate retail store where you buy bottles/cans to take home. Will definitely visit again!

Timothy R.

Yelp
Great imperial stout! There were plenty of beer connoisseurs here, so before I tried anything I felt like this place is legit. Staff is friendly. Not alot of room to sit so you'll have to fight for a table. But if you're just here for good beer, you're golden.

Linda R.

Yelp
Amazing outdoor atmosphere with great craft beer in the middle of nowhere. Took us an hour to drive from Stowe but it was a beautiful Nov day with temps in the high 40s so we brought a sandwich along and had a wonderful lunch outside on the picnic tables. We have been here before when the place was mobbed with people so today was a nice change, very quiet. Check the online list of beers to make sure you like something that is on tap. Limited beer sales to go in cans or bottles. Bring a sandwich, have a beer and enjoy the views. No cell service here so be sure to get directions back to your hotel while you are on hill farmsteads wifi.

Yelp
Drove over five hours To Hill Farmstead from Rhode Island and would 100% do it again! This brewery absolutely blew me away and easily became one of my top favorite breweries EVER! Our server Dylan absolutely made the best experience for us. He was super kind and helpful in understanding out tastes and recommending the best beers. We loved all the beers we tried. The IPAs weren't too hoppy, stouts weren't too thick, and the farmhouse ale was perfect. We went at the end of September when it was cold and we had to sit inside. I can imagine in the summer it is full of people outside. Absolutely a beautiful venue and I would love to come back here again!

Jason B.

Yelp
The best brewery in the known Universe. This is a must visit for beer lovers and a pilgrimage I make whenever I'm visiting Stowe. The retail store offers online ordering (it says it opens at 7am, but sometimes it's not available until 8am) and pickup 4 days a week beginning at 1130 am. The taproom has returned to allowing walk-ins, but you can reserve a table in advance which is a good idea during busy times. The outdoor area is spacious and features sweeping views of rural Vermont. There's an apple orchard across the street. And sometimes there's a food truck on site.

Beth S.

Yelp
Best brewery (beer + ambience) we've been to. It's in the middle of nowhere which adds to the experience. The beers are legendary for a reason. People who make the trek here want great beer so makes for a chill and fun crowd. Ordering is smooth, no stress about lines.

Shelby F.

Yelp
This brewery is unmatched. It is 100% worth the drive (we can from Houston TX). Get there right when they open-they get busy insanely quick. We were one of the first ones there and people were flowing in after for hours and the lines kept increasing. Again-so worth it! Their place is in such a beautiful location and they have done a fantastic job with their production. Will definitely be back one day.

Alec R.

Yelp
Wow! What a gorgeous place to have excellent beers. As a homebrewer and huge beer fan hill farmstead was a must stop on a beer tour of New England that my wife and I did. On top of world class beers, the location is absolutely gorgeous with a beautiful scenic view of nearby mountains/hills. We loved the laid back atmosphere outside and of course the beer.

Pig P.

Yelp
Best experience ever here. It was a perfect day and the beer was amazing. I have a new love for saisons. I will forever be a stead head. All of my aging beer will point toward Northern Vermont. Can't wait to return.

Yelp
Finally made it to the mecca of craft breweries! Our small group followed our local uncle's advice and made the hour drive from Stowe. When you've got a chance to visit what many call the best craft brewery in the country, an hour's drive is nothing. We mostly went on faith, as this beer hasn't made it to Texas (that I know of). When we arrived we were relieved to see that the crowd was pretty light, which we were told is a rarity since this was a Saturday at lunch time. We went right in and only waited a few minutes before we were lined up at the tasting counter. An extremely knowledgeable and friendly lady gave us a bunch of samples, and told us all we wanted to know about the place, their processes, and their beers. OK, so how best to say this?....WOW! The hype is well deserved, and every beer we tried was clean, crisp, complex, and just beautiful. Needless to say we loaded up at the purchase counter, happily paying $18 for each 4-pack of 16-ouncers. Our group of four wound up taking home about four cases, and I had to buy a new cooler at Walmart to get it back to Texas without letting it get warm. (Worth it!) So now I'm the proud owner of two cases of George, Marie, and Society & Solitude #4. I'm trying hard not to drink a couple of them every night, with mixed success. Bottom line: a beautiful brewery, great service, and outstanding beer. Can't wait to go back.

Jackson S.

Yelp
Truly the best brewery in the country. A shame that it's so far out from everything else, but yet still worth the trip. Sadly I won't come here often (or ever again) because of the distance, but it was a very worthwhile experience. The staff were helpful, friendly, and passionate. Cannot recommend this place enough.

Josh M.

Yelp
If you're into Ales this is the place for you! Lovely staff and a beautiful location. Very good beers!

Petra L.

Yelp
We had the beer, which was wonderful, of course, but the real surprise was the food truck, Making the CuTX BBQ. Out of this world! My mother had their lemonade with lavender, which was so so good. My mom is not a beer fan, so we were really glad there was a non-beer option. And the staff in the taproom were so gracious and kind. All in all, a wonderful experience and totally worth the drive, which was also beautiful.

Heather K.

Yelp
Unparalleled beer from one of the world's best breweries. They put a capital C in Craft Beer. Well worth the visit. Grounds are beautiful onsite and if you don't have time to stay, you can order cans or bottles in advance through their online retail shop. I have met people all over the US who make the pilgrimage to Greensboro, VT for the incredible beer. Highly recommend!!!

Brian P.

Yelp
Serene location and literally the best beer on the planet. Not sure what else you could be looking for in terms of breweries

Alan G.

Yelp
The beer is a 5 all day. The jasper hill cheese and house marinated olives were a hard 5. The friendly staff and amazing on site vintage bottle selections? 10. This place is a destination brewery and I cannot recommend it to anyone enough. The best brewery in the world, is perhaps a slight overstatement, but probably an understatement.

Ann P.

Yelp
What can I say, it was a treat finding this spot and sipping what some say are the best brews around. We have had HF beer bought at Wiley's Store in Greensboro but finally, we hit the retail store and tap room. We loved it; small and intimate, no massive crowds and no hype, just good beer. The young man at the counter helped me choose a few beers. We were able to enjoy some of their ambrosial delights sitting by the rolling hills with stellar views. It was beer heaven. I loved E and my man loved his Everest. The names are great. I am not one to stand in line for 1+ hours as it is at some of the more visited breweries. My visit to HF was just perfect. Book online to insure you get in on the tasting. We were able to walk in on a slow Thur. afternoon.

Yelp
Drinking beer in a farm or in the mountains is a very pleasurable experience. It totally makes my life better, I don't know why. I always think of those places where I have been able to step outside and enjoy the view of a gigantic mountain or green pastures all around. And this brewery is one of those places. There are many cons here: no small pours, no chairs outside, spotty connection, and lots of private property around. But, but, you still get a lawn where you can sit and just look out into the blue skies. It is a tricky situation and you have to make the best of it, a lot of people come here and most available seating will be taken. If you can, bring a blanket to throw on the grass. About the beer: you just going to have to drink them all. There are special bottles also, so... yep, lots of beer drinking. Luckily, the food trucks are legit.

Josefine M.

Yelp
Very cool brewery on a beautiful piece of land. Beer was good but I wish they had more selection to try. None of the bottled stuff was available for tasting. They had some pretty expensive bottles available for purchase, considering the price it would be nice if they allowed tastings before purchasong one. Also no flights available, but the bartender did let us try some samples at the bar. Went on a Saturday and it was very busy. Only 1 bathroom and about a 20 minute wait to get beer, so be prepared for lots of waiting. They had a delicious brick oven pizza food truck on site during our visit.

Sue S.

Yelp
Oh man. Another Vermont brewery that I could easily spend a whole day at getting properly faced. This place is AMAZING in just about every respect. We'd had Hill Farmstead beer before but have never visited the source. We were always impressed, so were very excited about this stop. It did not disappoint. First of all, do not be alarmed. At some point in your journey to Hill Farmstead, you will question Google and go, "Google, are you sure this is the right way? This is a dirt road." It is the right way! Keep going! Google knows where it is. So this is a super cool brewery with tons of property, so there's the inside area, the outside deck, the entry lot with a bunch of barrels to use as tables and a big sprawling field that you can sprawl out on too. Plenty of space for the masses. So there's a side area to the left as you walk in where you go if you want to buy beer to go. Then if you go in the "main" entrance, there are separate lines for growlers and glasses. We were somewhat befuddled when a young man told us he was only doing growlers and we had to get in the beer by the glass line, even though he was literally doing nothing and later started helping people in the beer by the glass line because it was absolutely overflowing. WTF. Anyway... Once we got in the right line and got served, we totally enjoyed ourselves. I had the pilsner (the name ended in #3 but I cut it off in my photo so I can't see the whole thing, lol). I generally don't order pilsners but this one is worth ordering. Robust flavor, light and crisp like a Kolsch. I seriously would order this pilsner all the time. We also split a bottle of Civil Disobedience Plum, which you buy by the bottle but it's really just two glasses worth and you have to drink it on site. That was deeeelicious. Tart but not too tart, plum flavor coming through. If we could've bought a few to go, I would have done it. My only complaint is they close way too early - or we would have spent probably about three more hours and about $200 there.

Vivian O.

Yelp
Wow spectacular service and spectacular beer. Quality beer. Loved loved loved the beer. Annie was extremely helpful in guiding us through the selection. Probably the best I've had. Location and amazing are perfect

Candace M.

Yelp
I'm just reviewing this because I can't fathom how the average could only be 4. Best beer in Vermont, most coveted beer in NY right now. We planned a whole trip around trekking out to this brewery. Our dog could not go inside but she could be anywhere on the patios, grounds, or retail shop. We regretted not buying more beer to go once we had left, though we bought a good amount. The road was a bit crappy - if you have a mid size rental car in mud season like we did- well-that's a little rough but it's not so long (I think under two miles) you're on packed gravel/unpaved road. Made a lot of friends out on the patio on a perfect spring day. Every one was friendly and happy to be enjoying good beer. Staff made it easy- they have a ticket system for growler fills. I can't believe my bf left the growlers at home but we didn't mind purchasing a few to be able to bring home this good beer. Check their website for the sizes and types of growlers they will fill, if you want to bring your own. Also- I am SO GLAD they sell retail cans in 12 Oz!!! Who decided on these 7-9% IPAs we always need pint size cans? I've been waiting for the big can trend to end so I was really glad to be able to purchase very fine craft beer in 12 oz cans.

Jessica R.

Yelp
5/5 stars for the fantastic beer, we absolutely loved the Anna Plum! A half star off for the inconvenience and exclusivity of the place, it was so difficult to get reservations and when we arrived there were only two other parties there. The cheese samples were fantastic, we tried two different offerings but wished there would have been more food on the menu to go along with the beer! All in all a good experience, we wish they would ship home to CA!

James L.

Yelp
Sheer delight to finally make it to upper Vermont and the charming Hill Farmstead. It's definitely a drive, but thankfully it's a beautiful one through rolling hills and such. Once you're there Hill Farmstead is a sight to see; the beer to go area is set up in a barn off to the the side with the main tap room being adjacent. There's lots and lots of green grassy space with rocking chairs and plenty of room for lounging out on the grass. Lots of flowers add color to the area and with the rolling hills off in the distance it really is a delightful spot, especially for beer lovers who understand what Hill Farmstead beers mean. The service was great and the whole place was clean and well kept, with areas to dispose of glasses and extra portable restrooms throughout. The day I visited they also had a food truck outside selling lobster rolls. Only negative was that they were sold out of glassware the day I visited, but I did leave with lots of cans and bottles to go!!!

Jess L.

Yelp
Probably a once-in-a-lifetime brewery visit experience for me, but it's definitely special. We arrived just before noon on a Saturday. Becca H. went straight to growler area, which took 1.5 hours, and a friend and I went to bottle/retail area, which took 30 minutes. The retail/bottle line, while definitely shorter than growler line, was surprisingly slow. There seemed to be only two people running this area. It was a good opportunity to schmooze with other fellow passionate beer people, who trekked to this off-the-cell-grid location. Once I made it over to the growler area, I realized just how precious people found HFB beer. You could tell everyone here was in it for the long haul based on what they brought (snacks, games) and how everyone decided to entertain themselves (lots o' beer). It's definitely awesome that the samples are free and that customers can get glasses or bottles of most of the beer in the main space. It too a long time to get to our number even though we got there even before it opened (1.5 hours in total), but HFB tries to make the experience chill and enjoyable. And how could I not mention the beer?! If you're serious about beer, you already know that HFB is killin' it and can master multiple styles. If you're coming here, you already know they mean business. So if you're reading this review and didn't know already, know that the trek is significant, but you'll be well rewarded. As other HFB Yelpers mentioned, you'll likely lose cell service before reaching HFB, but if you're really stuck, wait until you see another car, and then follow it. There is unlikely to be other streams of traffic in this area. (Truly, both Verizon and AT&T kicked about 10-15 minutes from the brewery.)

J. B.

Yelp
Really doesn't live up to the hype IMO. There wasn't a sour option on the menu for pours, nor bottles, and they didn't have any to-go, either. Given the popularity, the place was obviously a mob scene, so good luck. I also thought the staff was unreasonably snobby and rude.

Robert H.

Yelp
Best beer in New England, period. Their brewery is a site to behold. Grab an Edward, Mary or any of their excellent beers and gaze over the landscape. The brewery is remote in the Green Mountains but well worth the visit. Food truck on site, tacos during my last visit. Be prepared for a long wait for growler service, grab a number when you get inside. Be aware that there are two lines, one for bottles, cans and merch in the left door, and one for growlers and draft in the house with the porch.

Harsh M.

Yelp
The spring in Vermont is back and so will be the beer brewery visits. Oh! Beer breweries are a winter thing too when it comes to Vermont or anywhere in New England. This brewery is rated #1 in the world by beer advocate. Their beer menu changes quite often. This is the one from 2017. Few of my favorites and a must try if you are a beer lover: 1) Double Nelson- their most popular. They have a small shop next door where they sell cans. Only 2 six pack packs to one person. Perfect taste of hoppy and malty. 2) Shirley Mae- if you are a coffee lover, this is what I'd recommend. 3) Farmer Wave- This is my favorite. Pale golden pour with moderate carbonation. Aroma is lime, citrus peels, light yeast, sour candy. Lime zest up in the taste when you first sip it. Lighter body. Perfect match for spicy pho noodles or unseasonally hot days. They also have a food truck during spring/ summer/ nice weather.

Dan W.

Yelp
Very friendly staff. The gentleman who is originally from London who moved to the states was especially knowledgeable and gave every patron an experience that wasn't rushed. The beers are fantastic - well worth the drive. I only wish they had a bigger selection of growler options! Also, get the cheese board and olives. I love the olives because they are soaked in citrus.

Karen K.

Yelp
Some call Hill Farmstead the No. 1 brewery in the country... so I had to check it out while vacationing in Vermont. I'm not a beer connoisseur, or even know all the types of beer, but I did like what I sampled! It was raining cats and dogs, and the place was still packed. I stood in line for only 5 minutes before placing my order for a coworker back home (he's the beer pro). In the other building, you can get a few free samples. They have maybe 5 or 6 stations set up like bank teller stations. I got a spot immediately. After my samples, I chose the helles. It was smooth and really light. I tried sitting on the porch to enjoy it, but the rain was coming sideways. Still managed to get a good photo and enjoy the atmosphere a bit before leaving. (I had fun counting bearded men and man buns). If you are in Vermont, you MUST stop here for a beer. It's high quality, great service and the actual brewing room is pristine.

John A.

Yelp
A bit secluded, yet very busy. Nice views and great beer. Sadly some new releases sell out in days. I visited on a Saturday and was pleased with the taproom and seperate bottle/ can sales rooms, both had lines but moved quickly. The beer was above average! Rustic taproom, and great views make this a destination, must visit. Hope you enjoy the friendly atmosphere and service. Negative, no public wi-fi, found that a bit annoying as it's in the middle of nowhere.

Wai L.

Yelp
Is it worth driving 7 hours to experience the hill? Holding back urinary urgency and risking speeding tickets? Spending so much money on beer in rural Vermont that your credit card company suspends your account on suspected fraud. The answer my friends is yes! When you finally travel through Middle Earth to the farm, you will feel like you entered disney world for beer lovers. The retail store has a solid collection with guest distributions. No limits and they box it up nicely. They take credit card but no Amex. The property is beautiful. A true getaway. Like you can see the freshly picked hops being Brewed right before your face. The woodwork is lovely. Service amazing Recommendation: Have their onsite bottled special. Yes they are nazis and won't let you carry the precious off site with you. They will open and pour it into your cup (or mouth) under observation. I thought about paying and making a run for it. Can you be arrested for that? I had the civil disobedience #5. Single wine barrel from 2012, blend of Ann, Art and Flora. A touch of plum. Slight sour. Soft. Delicious. Cost me $30 though. Nice touch Raw oyster bar Great customer service Beautiful property Cheese plates Criticisms Porta potty Real off-road back country roads to get here (I've never seen so many Subarus in my life) The glassware leaves much to be desired

Yelp
Believe the Myths... Believe the Stories... You're a real, real naughty boy. Real naughty. Effervesce in your mouth for several-hours after-wards... Yes, I was an attendant. I had a top-notch experience. It was a lovely, Saturday spring day in Vermont. Drove with my dawg from East Burke, in the NEK... A beautiful drive it was. We anticipated a line. We arrived early. No line - repeat no line... I sampled every-THANG, got my order lined up, grabbed a number (not that I needed to) waited less than 05-minutes and a couple hundo later I'm comin' back with a sweet haul. A couple hundo is nothing to me. Toilet paper. Decided to enjoy the atmosphere a little mo'... Grabbed another glass of Susan and sat on the deck... Observed the view, observed the dogs, observed the friz toss, observed the hipsters... The beer - absolutely exquisite. Knocked my socks off... I am a huge fan of The Heady, and SoS... This is different - better overall. I wish it were produced/easier to get... The beer is so good it leaves a very pleasant taste in your mouth for several hours afterwards.... It comes back and lets you know it likes you. i.e., later that day I went on a lovely mountain bike in East Burke / NEK and when I was huffin' & puffin' etc I could taste the HF still in my trachea area... And it was extremely pleasant. You're extremely pleasant.

Yelp
It's magical. The end. There's something about Vermont water that just makes a stellar beer in general, but Shaun Hill & Co in particular just take those base ingredients to the next level and make something *extra* special. IPAs, saisons, big barrel-aged stouts - no matter what you pick, it's guaranteed to be perfectly crafted. The boys were over the moon at the opportunity to drink Art on-site (Only on-site, no take-away available on that one at all) - apparently that's a beer that takes multiple years to make, and just not a thing on the reg at all. My favorite of the day was, without question, Madness & Civilization 10 - basically a bourbon-scented liquid double fudge brownie - but we were also fortunate enough to be able to bring home a case of canned Mosaic IPA. Packaging & availability depends completely on the beer and the day, so check their website/social media beforehand and plan your visit accordingly. Hill is in a gorgeous mountain wonderland - stunning scenery - but in the winter there's a chance that you could have an extended involuntary visit to that surrounding landscape, if, as we experienced, your total-BS rental car can't make it up the hilly roads surrounding the brewery - plan winter visits carefully, and consider 4-wheel drive. (Definitely take the Chevy Impala *out* of winter consideration - F that car!) Long story short: Go.

Yelp
If you are a craft beer snob, then this is the place to be. This brewery is pretty much in the middle of nowhere...on a farm...on a hill. Seriously, expect very little to no cellular service and about 2 miles of dirt roads leading up to this brewery but...it is worth the hike. They are open Wed-Sat and from what I hear, the best days to come are Thurs or Fri bc they are not as crowded. I arrived even before they opened on a Friday and could not believe my eyes. Not only was this place already packed, but people were coming in with chest coolers packed with growlers to get filled. I've been to a lot of breweries and have never seen anything like this. There are also signs posted all throughout the brewery that state they have the right to refuse unclean growlers so make sure you give yours a good rinse before you get here. If you're not getting a growler filled, you can mark off your selection of bottles and or brewery swag on the tiny sheets provided throughout the space and let them know. That way you won't be waiting forever. Otherwise, you may sample any 4 beers they have on tap, all of which are bound to be incredible. My only real complaint is that the bottles for purchase are different beers than what's on tap so you're pretty much taking a shot in the dark with your choice unless you've had the beer before. Anyway there is no need to fear as I have never had a bad beer by Hill Farmstead. Enjoy the beer and keep on rockin' in the free world.

Yelp
What can I say that has not already been said about this brewery? It's been rated the #1 brewery in the USA for multiple years in a row. The cars in the parking lot not only sport NY, NJ, CT, RI, PA and MA license plates, but also CA, NV, WA, OR, FL, and GA plates. People drive very long distances to come to this beer 'Mecca.' Shaun has been building and expanding this business as fast as he can, but it never seems to be enough. The people keep coming and the crowds keep gathering. If you go, ask people what the lines are for before you wait in line. If you want to buy a few bottles, that line is generally shorter than the growler refill line. Pay attention to the signs on the road to Hill Farmstead and to the highway rather than to your GPS. There are some really tiny dirt backroads that you should avoid. And be very careful in the winter. Many of these visitors are driving cars with summer tires in the harsh snow and ice of Vermont. Most of all, enjoy your visit to HFB.

Yelp
What a great space for a taproom/tasting room. About four large tables and chairs with multiple two tops scattered in the room for smaller parties. You go here for the fabulous beers and yup the fabulous beers. All staff members were friendly and helpful in describing the selections and informing you which beers are available for growler fills vs cans vs bottles for purchase. (Bring credit card and ID if looking to buy limited release items) There is minimal food on site (cheese boards with or without olives) and the quality is mindful. The bathroom on site is unisex, and if the place is packed (most of the time it is) it can get as long as the purchase line. By far... this place brews fine quality and mulitleveled flavoring of the beers that are balanced well. It is easy to see why they are proficient at award winning beers. I missed the timing for the maple syrup aged in bourbon barrels as the release was in the fall. Get there at opening so you have a chance to combat lines on weekends especially, but don't think the week days are easy pickings. It is well worth every drop of beer and hospitality.

Yelp
So, we were driving out in the middle of nowhere with no cell service. I was seriously trusting Google Maps on this one. I had no idea where we were going. And then we arrived... This. Place. Is. Gorgeous! There is not a better word for it. When you get there immediately go and put your order for growler fills because you will have to wait. Good news! You can now have a beer while you wait. They had their new (not yet finished) tap room open and were serving flights, pints and bottles to consume on site. They have a wrap-around porch to sit and drink your beer while enjoying the view. They also had a food truck on site. Sit back and enjoy your time here. In the main room, they fill growlers and sell bottles and other merchandise. They were very nice and ran things very smooth. Go here!

Yelp
The people behind the bar are presumptuous snobs who don't have time to talk about their beer. They don't offer flights and the beer is just ok. I can't understand how they win so many awards. The beer is not that good. Probably will never go back. The trip today was my second. I was hoping things might have changed but they have not. Very disappointing as I was hoping things would have been different. They don't even accept cash.

Yelp
One of the world's best breweries. I've been coming here one or two times a year for about 4 years now, and ever since their expansion, it is so much better. Although there is minimal cell phone service, if you come with two-six friends in one car, have someone who is DD, you can spend hours here. There are always new releases each week, and the on-site consumption only list always has at least one bottle that makes you go 'wow' to, specially because of the price too. The building on the left is now only bottle/retail sales, making the line not nearly as bad as the 2+ hour wait it used to be even on a Weds to fill growlers. The newer building, which finally has a working toilet instead of the port-a-poties outside, does growler fills and has a bunch of tables inside to drink. If it's nice, sit outside.

Yelp
Yes 5 stars! Do you like a beer that is obviously crafted with pride? Would you like to enjoy a scenic drive through the countryside of Vermont? Is a causal atmosphere right up your alley? Then Hill Farmstead! Besides the obvious ratings of as Top Beers in the World, when I'm Vermont this is a must stop. The service is very friendly. The atmosphere causal and warming style seating. It can get busy, but they have a ticket system that works, so don't worry about getting lost in the shuffle. They have a great variety of beers and complimenting foods. If you have time, a tour of the brewery is available. Bottom line it's about the beer and people. No TVs, big views, great beer, friendly atmosphere, and a chance to just sit down have a great conversation!

Yelp
Less a destination More of a pilgrimage It doesn't matter what you do, if you do it with the care and passion the fine folks at Hill Farmstead display, you'll do great

Yelp
Getting to Hill Farmstead was a bit scary for a city slicker like me. The paved gravel road literally disappeared and became a dirt road! Once the trees clear, you see a cool brewery standing among the field. If you built it, they will come, and oh boy the crowd definitely came. Very nice selection of beers and a laid back atmosphere. There's plenty of outdoor seating, bring a blanket and the kids! Very family friendly environment where there's corn hole games and the kids can run free in the fields. There's barrels in the fields where it can be utilized as mini table tops. There's a food truck in the front if you're hungry! The only negative is 1 single unisex bathroom for a location that can hold well over 100 people. (Not counting the Port-A-Potty as options) I guess you can use the field out yonder but that just seems so uncivilized and I'm not sure it's legal. Also if there happens to be a heat wave in the summer, there is no AC, just fans. But how often does it get hot in VT?
