Dont go there is you are hungry, lol. Everything was so good. We got Lemon pepper wings and fried porkchops with them greens and mac & cheese sides. We also got the shrimp box with fries and shrimp Rasta pasta. My favorite was the rasta pasta, wings, and collard greens. My hubby loved the shrimp box and still working towards the porkchop meal, lol.

If you’re looking for REAL southern food this is the place. From baton rouge and this is the closest i’ll get to their food. Anyone who say they don’t like this food ain’t from the south. Everything tasted absolutely fantastic

This is my new favorite spot. They make a little bit of everything. Well, at least things that I like 😆. It is set up for take-out, but if you are looking for a good southern style, soul food spot, this is a place I would recommend.

I love this place . I get the fish box or the chicken dinner . My only issue is they sell fish but don’t have lemon slices . I was recently disappointed because I ordered the box of fish And was not happy with the fish they gave me . Also I got a chicken sandwich and they only gave me the chicken with two dry bread .

I ordered a pork chop dinner which I waited 15-20 minutes which was not a problem I know sometimes it takes an extra minute to get food right. When I got my dinner the 2 pork chops must have been the 2 that were sitting around since lunch time. I went there about 6. They were dried out to the point where the coating on the top side was touching the coating of the bottom side. And what sad about that is they had to see that but still put in the dinmer. The collard greens were loaded with sugar and I didn't bother eating the yams in fear of more disappointment. I just threw the whole dinner away, because I figured I would eat the chicken rasta pasta I ordered as well and the chicken in the rasta pasta had no flavor. I wouldn't even call it chicken rasta pasta. It was more like chicken Alfredo. I threw that away too. $36 wasted . If you wonder why I didn't just bring it back.. it is because I live in Danbury and was just passing through New Haven. Needless to say I won't go back there or recommend anybody else to go there. Only positive I could say is the people were pleasant but that went by the wayside when they gave me my order

Yelp
I stumbled upon Hill's Kitchen in New Haven and decided to give it a try. I got the fried chicken meal which came with two sides and cornbread. The chicken was crispy, well seasoned, and juicy, exactly what you hope for with fried chicken. The mac and cheese was a highlight. It had a rich, sharp cheddar flavor, not overly creamy or bland like some spots. You could actually taste the cheese and the baked top gave it a nice texture contrast. The collard greens were tender and smoky from the turkey, not too salty, just well balanced. The cornbread was light, fluffy, and a little sweet, almost like a slice of cake. The staff was kind and helpful, especially with our big takeout order. It is a solid spot for comforting, well executed soul food. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
I was trying to get food from here for a while and It finally happened. Attempt #1 Too many ppl hanging around outside, and I was uncomfortable #2 They closed early that day #3 Made it inside, nobody spoke, asked woman at the table for something, she said they were out so i walked out. just bad customer service. 3 tries and I was done but then a family member said they were getting food so I decided to try. It was okay, definitely wasn't impressed... The sides were good but that's kinda where it stops. The chicken wings were bland. The peppersteak was okay. The chopped bbq was not good, it tasted like pure hot sauce, not much else. Found out that the chopped bbq was chicken, not the traditional pork or turkey. Mac n Cheese wasn't memorable, def needed some salt. Sides collard greens and sweet potatoes were awesome. Sweet potatoes had a vanilla flavor in them which was good but then it also in the corn bread, and it became overpowering when eating them together. I know a cpl ppl that like it but it's definitely not for me. Guess I'll just continue my search for good soul food

Yelp
Hidden gem. Food is fresh and flavorful. Best soul food in New Haven. Corn bread had a nice vanilla flavor and the collard greens are seasoned well. The Mac and cheese was great and fresh. The wings had a nice flavor and were juicy. The potato salad was perfect. I will be coming back

Yelp
This place is absolutely amazing, it has some of the best food I have ever had. Their Fried chicken is to die for and their Mac and cheese is extremely good. Everything is really seasoned and has a great taste. Also their corn bread is very good. The workers are also very nice and pleasant. It's the definition of a hidden gem. If you have a chance I would definitely recommend to stop by and try it for yourself!
