I stumbled upon Hill's Kitchen in New Haven and decided to give it a try. I got the fried chicken meal which came with two sides and cornbread. The chicken was crispy, well seasoned, and juicy, exactly what you hope for with fried chicken. The mac and cheese was a highlight. It had a rich, sharp cheddar flavor, not overly creamy or bland like some spots. You could actually taste the cheese and the baked top gave it a nice texture contrast. The collard greens were tender and smoky from the turkey, not too salty, just well balanced. The cornbread was light, fluffy, and a little sweet, almost like a slice of cake. The staff was kind and helpful, especially with our big takeout order. It is a solid spot for comforting, well executed soul food. I will definitely be back.
