Let's start off with the good. Very attractive from the outside. The lady behind the counter was very kind and worked with me on an important room change so I appreciate all that. The rooms are very plain and definitely old as dirt put the beds are super comfortable the pills are super comfortable it's just not the type of hotel or Resort I guess I've become accustomed to. But so far I've slept like a baby and for me that's all that matters

Google
Rooms were very nice and clean. Service was incredible. Price was extremely fair. We checked in late (like 9:55pm) after a long day of adventures, totally exhausted, and the guy who checked us in grabbed our heavy luggage for us and was like "here let me help you to your room" and without us asking or saying anything he took us up stairs and all the way to our room. It was the nicest most unexpected blessing we didn't even know we needed at the time. Made us feel so welcomed. If we make it out to Hawaii again we will definitely be back.

Google
We always stay here on the Big Island it is older but cheap. Uncle sits on the bench when you check in. This is on the inlet so swimming or a beach is 60 seconds away. Note: I love this place but no a/c or elevators. All rooms have a large floor fan which we put next to the screen while we're there. Rooms are always clean and beds are more on the Premier side. Every room has a baby kitchenette with sink/microwave and Fridge. Tell them I said "mahalo" for always being kind. Aloha

Google
There is no A/C which we new, but it sits on Hilo bay and the humidity was ridiculous. The room reminds me of an old military barracks, doors are not security doors, they are old hollow core interior doors and most have no deadbolt. I cannot recommend this place . It is 3 stories with no elevator. The only saving grace is it's 5 minutes from the airport and a short walk to downtown. Very dated and in need of a complete remodel.

Google
The hotel is older. The room was ok; definitely on the cheap side. Don’t expect luxury. The plus is: the views are amazing. The biggest negative: No elevator. We had to lug our bags up three flights of stairs. The room did have a normal size fridge and a small microwave. Don’t expect to watch TV. The service kept going out. We had to wait for someone to show up at reception before we could check-in. My advice, keep looking.

A little shabby, the Hilo Reeds Bay is. Doors that use actual keys instead of key cards. Walls and furniture that could use a fresh coat of varnish or paint. This hotel was probably state-of-the-art when disco music was king. All this is to say, don't come here expecting it to look as good as a Marriott or a La Quinta. But this place doesn't cost as much as the other ones, either. Has cooking facilities in the room, which most hotels don't. As long as you have a car, it'll serve as a good home base to visit the national parks and the beach. Just keep your expectations low, don't expect it to be a dream resort, and be grateful that you're saving some money. It'll do the job.

Google
We paid resort price for a motel. Had it been a standard motel pricing, it’s alright. Clean rooms, good location and nice water views. Staff is wonderful. Hotel is dated and had loud noises from other guests and neighboring building at night/ early morning hours. WiFi in the room is horrible. Almost no network. Had to go to the lobby to get decent connection. Cable tv had only one channel on. On a rainy day it was no fun stuck inside a subpar hotel with no WiFi and no tv.

David LeNorman

Google
Location is great, within walking distance of Coconut Island and Liliʻuokalani Gardens. The hotel is extremely dated. No elevators and marginal wifi in lobby area. This place needs a serious refresh. While the sheets were clean, the beds felt old and worn out. Finally, parking is very limited. I had to park almost 2 blocks away and carry stuff with kids, so not exactly convenient. Also, no A/C: We had a "bayside" room so had a nice ocean breeze. My sister had a room halfway down the hallway and it was hot and no fans in room. If you are looking for a less expensive option on the bay or near the park, this is an OK choice. If you are looking for a more traditional updated room, then pay more and stay down the street.

Yelp
Decent, as a hotel room on a budget. Planning a long (7 days or more) vacation on the big island of Hawaii, but you do not want to shell out $300+ dollars a night? This is your jam. Final verdict: Happy with the room, I got what I paid for. Under $200 a night The good - My room faced the bay, I could hear the waves at night. - semi-quiet. I could sometimes Hear airplanes. Not enough to ruin my night - Kitchen in the room. I was staying 10 nights, so I used the cabinets and full size fridge to stock food and drinks. - a screen and some vents to let in the breeze. - It is Hawaiian climate, no need for AC or a heater The bad. - If you want the resort experience ( larger, more modern room) you need to pay more at the Hilo Hawaiian. - small / outdated shower. - The decor of the room looks outdated - If I was traveling with a family (I was solo) I would want a bigger room.

Yelp
just horrible. no A/C, no elevator, but they make you sign a waiver when you check in that says they wont give you a refund due to no AC or elevator...fine. No cable, and they only have smart TVs that require you to log into your own accounts, and require you to log in to their WIFI. That would have been fine except our room didn't have WIFI. So we had a useless TV. The maintenance guy came down and said the WIFI was out on our floor when I asked for assistance. I talked to the front desk who told me that they don't advertise they have cable TV and the wifi is only guaranteed in the lobby. So, by her reasoning, they had fulfilled their side of the bargain and would not give me a refund. I have never had to sign a waiver before acknowledging the lack of amenities of a hotel before, and it is thorough to make sure that once you are disappointed with your room, they still get your money. The full size fridge is actually a taller mini fridge. The "ocean view" is a parking lot and dilapidated apartment building but if you crane your neck around the balcony you can see the ocean. They have old fashioned keys, not cards. So you will need to lock your door with the key when you leave. The pool is tiny, very tiny. The amount of cats is staggering, but all the hotels around there suffer from this. The area is quite nice and there are 2 slightly more expensive hotels on the same strip that are A LOT nicer. Hilo Reeds Bay Hotel needs an extensive make-over to be a place that you would want to spend a night in. The staff are clearly experienced with complaints and refusing refunds...they make you sign a refund waiver!! Never again Hilo Reeds Bay Hotel. I hope you get updated and don't become another abandoned building on that strip, but shame on you for ruining my vacation.

Yelp
Old run down place in a beautiful setting. Balcony with bay view but with the balcony having 12" boards you can't see the bay when you are sitting. The bed was the most uncomfortable bed in any hotel I have ever stayed in. The pillows flat. What really irritated me was that I registered for 2 guests, and was asked if I wanted coffee for the room. I received a small ziplock bag that had I pack of coffee the size of a teabag with 2 sugars and 2 creamer. The coffee maker is a small 5 cup machine. I filled it so we each could have a 1/2 cup of coffee that was so weak you couldn't even taste the coffee. Just some effort and care could make this a great place to stay.

Yelp
Very nice and clean! Free parking, minutes from the airport, very spacious rooms, full size fridge/freezer, microwave, dishes/rack, wifi. No elevator or A/C but there are plenty of fans and the top floor is 3rd so not too bad. I would def stay here again! Also ask for kamaaina discount!

Yelp
This is my 2nd night here in Nov. My first rm on the 2nd floor, I caught 2 black Sugar ants. I bagged one and gave it to the front desk this morning. Tonight I caught maybe 20 ants with a sticky label I pulled off my package of cake. I have experience in dealing with ants back home but bigger Carpenter ants that fly too. I go downstairs at 10:20 pm. The ofc is closed. I thought it closed at 10:30 pm. The security guard watching the Open Air (No Door) entrance asked if I needed anything. I said Kleenex. I ask him if he worked in maintenance. He said Security. Another man comes by and goes into the ofc and gets me a box of Kleenex. He is there by chance and had to help another guest get into his room. I told him of the Ant infestation. I ask if they have any non toxic spray since I have to sleep in this room. He gives me a very small bottle of liquid Terra Ant Killer. Last night the Front desk lady told me to tell the Rm maid to tell the Maintenance to set more ant traps. I used those traps and they don't work. I could not sleep well last night due to many factors. The hotel is next to Hilo Airport. Today this morning at 6 am, the Military planes were taking off. At 4:30 or 5 am I heard jet engines and maybe I thought they were the St Cleaners. 5 am , the People upstairs get up and make noise. I could hear them going to the bathroom. My room has carpet under the bed. My 2nd fl. Rm had hardwood flooring under the bed. The dresser under the TV is half missing the handles. I did list out all the issues I found. The toilets are new. The granite counter top in my 2nd fl rm was great and you the cabinets were new. The bathroom cabinet hid the pipes. My 3rd fl room , I could see old rusty pipes mixed with newer ones. The shower head looked dirty with lime on it. The shower floor on the 2nd fl. Needed a good scrub. They Did not replace or remodel that shower. The 3fl shower head was dirty. The tile of the bottom of the shower is old and needs a scrub and the drain looked really old. It's nice to have a frig and microwave and ceramic dishes, metal forks. They provide a dish rack, towel and detergent. The best part is having a view of the Bay, Waves pounding against the rocks except when you want to get to sleep.

Yelp
This place is so run down and dirty. I Found bed bugs under the mattress and immediately left. The manager was extremely rude and has absolutely no aloha spirit not even to locals. Disgusting and shame . He doesn't even try to find a solution just gives attitude.

Yelp
Beautiful Bayan trees line the road outside the hotel. Okay, so I am torn on this review. In most cases I would consider the hotel a 3 star or 2. We were assigned a room with a view of bay with the water lapping against the sea wall 10 feet from our room. This was very nice accept when I was surprised have a view of someone dumping dirty water over balcony. The room was clean, bed very comfortable and had a kitchenet. Now on other hand was a bit dated looking. The hall leading to it needed a serious freshening up, a little spooky at night. Not sure if the price we paid is normal or was increased because of all the volcano tourist in town for Mauna Loa because it seemed on the high side for the motel quality. Although many of the hotels were in the 250.00 Range, this one was 175.00 included all fees. The staff was friendly and they did have security guard for parking lot until 12. It was by an apartment that looked pretty rough. It was very close to different areas of Hilo, restaurants, ocean, downtown and waterfalls.

Yelp
There was no AC and the fan didn't really help during hot days but we expected that coming here. The maintenance guy was super nice and so helpful whenever we needed anything fixed or had any questions. Also the kitchen was nicely stocked with dinnerware, portable stove, and rice cooker.
google avatar

Yelp
This hotel/ motel is in a much needed renovation, the room do not look like anything on there website, the rooms are run down, the calling fan only goes one speed, beware of the cockroaches I had to go to the store and buy insect spray, I keep all my clothes in my luggage. I would not stay here again I would sleep in my car then stay here again.
google avatar

Maritess C.

Yelp
Came to stay here for a couple nights. The room was nice however there's no ac but two fans in the room and a ceiling fan. The weather here wasn't too bad. It was still warm but cool at night. I enjoyed the room and it had a kitchenette which was nice cause we needed a refrigerator, microwave, utensils and a coffee maker. I did like that cause we had drinks and leftovers we took to the room. Plenty of parking up front. You must wear a mask when walking around. It's a high increased area so keep that in mind. Covid is still spreading. I would recommend this hotel if you don't mind not having ac. It was nice and cool at night.
google avatar

Amber F.

Yelp
Pros: good kitchenette includes mini fridge, microwave, sink good location with somewhat of a view of the bay good service at front desk clean cheaper (as it should be) pool access Cons: no AC- just a weak ceiling fan & tower fan but it wasn't hot for our stay no elevators- only 3 stories wifi is very bad- pretty much no wifi outdated TV- lots of static & trouble with different channels definitely needs a facelift
google avatar

Yelp
Pros: good price. Was one of the cheapest I found. Hotel room was clean. Sheets washed, we had soap, towels, etc. beds were ok for what you pay for. TV actually above average, it's a smart TV like home, not the stuff other hotels use that make you pay per view. Nice view on bay facing rooms and the stairways on one side you get a nice view of the ocean...you're right on the water. Besides a few chronics, it's a nice walk around Hilo with a beautiful park a block away. Cons WiFi spotty but most carriers only sell unlimited data...WiFi isn't a huge deal for me. It's walk up 3 story with secure lobby area. Anyone can walk up to your door. Had a few crazies in the area, not the hotels fault but just fyi. Looks like low income housing 2 buildings down. No AC so you're opening windows and hearing coqui frogs. Old building. You get what you pay for.

Yuki N.

Yelp
No customer service, very poor. I made simple complaint and they were very defensive and rude No aloha here. Room was many stairs up with no elevator. There is no WiFi even though they advertise it. Sheets were stained and no hot water. Pool was never cleaning, you think about vacation and comfort. And this place is very disappointing. No vending machines and no air conditioning. But none of them matter if staff was friendly. Too rude and many negative energies. I would not recommend : (
google avatar

Marissa C.

Yelp
Kind of jenky looking both inside and out, but very friendly staff. For the price, you do kind of get what you pay for. At least we had a nice view of the ocean from our window and a little kitchenette with a fridge to keep our brewskies cold.

Jessica C.

Yelp
Pros: King sized bed in a room with all the necessities Yummy complimentary coffee Cute pool over looking the bay Big hibiscus bush right outside of our window Pretty quiet environment Kitchenette and sink in the hotel room, full sized fridge Cons: No AC Outdated building, little things like the plugs don't all work and the tv was difficult to get working Overall, we needed a cute little place to crash and it was great for that!
google avatar

Brynne B.

Yelp
This was just what we needed for our last couple of nights in Hawai'i. The room temperature was very comfortable with the fans blowing. The kitchenette had everything we needed. The view was ok - we had a balcony and we could peek around the corner to see the bay. The price was high, but much better than everything else around there. Considering the convenience to anything you might want to see in Hilo and beyond, the nice waterfront just a few feet away, and the short trip to the airport, this place would be hard to beat.

Janet H.

Yelp
If you want a feel for the area, this is the place for you. It has no cable TV, air conditioning, or elevator. What it does have is a wonderful ocean breeze coming through the sliding doors, a view that is amazing, and a kind and helpful staff. It is in the middle of the bay area and you can walk to almost anywhere, including coconut island . If you want an accommodation where you sit in the room all day, this is not for you. If you want a space to call a base, and to sleep in comfort at night, you want to stay here. The best room is 320 so be sure to request this room if it is available. We have traveled the world and will definitely return here.

Yelp
I decided I needed a small get away from work, decided to take a 2 night trip over to Hilo. I of course went on line to see what hotels happen to be available. I came across reeds. Slightly cheaper then the other hotels in the area. The pictures looked phenomenal. The room it's self was very run down, needed a good deep cleaning. I'm from Hawaii so seeing places like this doesn't really have an effect on me. However people coming in from out of town would be rather shocked. Dead cockroaches in the cabinet... again this didn't really effect me seeing that's a norm here on the island. However as a hotel you should be prepared. The check in and check out was extremely fast and easy. The room view of the bay was totally worth my stay. I needed a few days of relaxation and this was totally what I needed. There's no air conditioning in the hotel, nor is there an elevator... so yes must carry your bags up 3 flights of stairs. The room gets a little toasty during the day. Again doesn't effect me since I also don't have air conditioning in my home. For a couple night stay I rather enjoyed myself. The hotel was quiet and relaxing bay side. I think to attract good reviews and customers from all around the world it has a lot of work to do.

Jenny C.

Yelp
this place is in serious need of updating. I will say it was mostly clean. when the turn down service happened they completely forgot coffee. when we arrived to our room there was a supervisor chewing out a houskeeper very loudly across the hall. poor girl was near tears, i felt really bad for her. the swimming pool was closed with no explanation. but the bathroom door was filled with foam sealant and disguised with shells. completely unacceptable. this room should have never been rented out!

Cheryl W.

Yelp
This is just a basic older hotel, nothing fancy. But it is clean, the staff is very nice and it's right on Reeds Bay. If you're looking for fancy, air conditioning and elevators you should keep looking! The night security guard was friendly and very helpful in helping us with parking, let's just say some guests had trouble parking inside the lines lol The money we saved by staying here actually paid for our stargazer tour! I get so tired of reading reviews that complain about the lack of 5 star accommodations at a 2 star price.. Again this is just a clean, safe and friendly basic hotel! I would definitely stay again!

Weathirly G.

Yelp
Didn't feel safe, wasn't clean, staff wasn't very friendly. Would not recommend. Literally no type of security. Anyone could walk straight off the side walk, up the stairs and down the hallway to any room. Sketch people just hanging out in the parking lot, lobby was very dated and unkept, lots of the amenities were broken. The room was more comparable to a motel room rather than a hotel room though it did have a small kitchenette which was helpful. There's no AC but thankfully there was enough of a breeze with the sliding door open and fans on and it wasn't too hot that day. They also included a curtain rod to jam in the sliding door so it couldn't be fully opened from the outside, thankfully I was on the 3rd floor. Also no elevator so hopefully your bags don't weigh a ton if you're on the third floor.

Yeetus D.

Yelp
Very horrible customer service. I never wrote a review, only read them until today. This hotel did not only yell at and watch my daughter struggle carrying her things, they were also very rude. I'm guessing the owner, an older guy who always wears aloha print insulted my dad and asked him how old he was cause he accidentally got water on the floor. They have a pool yet, still gets mad over water spillage?? The rooms also suck. Our doors lock didn't work and they wouldn't do anything to accommodate us. More worse, we weren't even tourist, we were locals just on a staycation!!!! (also no AC or elevators)

Sara G.

Yelp
We made a reservation at this hotel but cancelled due to concerns about stairs and overall reports of poor condition of hotel. When we did travel to Hilo, we walked by this hotel that looked to be in very poor shape from the outside. I did not go in but very thankful we chose a different lication

Forest F.

Yelp
While the staff was nice, but the hotel is very much below our expectation. Don't trust the pictures on the websites. It is just an old apartment building with very outdated rooms. Shabby 50 year old bathroom, doors and windows. Will not recommend.
google avatar

Christine C.

Yelp
This place is a place where you can be at a simple mind set. No valet parking, no room service,no AC but who cares! We are just sleeping and moving around all day. It's like growing up when I was younger. If something was broke you don't complain unless you fixed it. Decent room and yes I laughed when I realized no AC but I laughed more at myself than the hotel. I love the landscape garden here. Sometimes it takes something so simple to impress me.

Yelp
Yelp Challenge 365 # 149/365 What used to be known as the Nalei Hotel some years ago is now the Reeds Bay Resort Hotel. Add the word "resort" to the name and a different class of property is visioned. To that, I will say "resort" and "a different class" is merely, a matter of one's own definition. Here's what I saw: Older building but clean and well maintained. Lobby area has a den area with a library filled with books, a computer you can use I think for your plane reservations or merely to surf the internet (or write a review on Yelp) Room? Full sized (18 cu) refrigerator, sink, microwave, coffee maker... like a little studio. Bed is older BUT sheets are clean... television with cable... Housekeeping services provided daily and at night- you get the coque (did I spell that right) frog lullabye..... In the morning you will wake up to a beautiful view of the ocean (Reed's Bay) I think they have a complimentary continental breakfast... not sure... I think... and Free wi-fi.... and that my friends is all I can say.

Yelp
If you are looking for a simple place to rest your head at the end of a day exploring Hilo, this is it. Very reasonable price for the area. Comfortable beds, simple small fridge, small coffee maker, skillet, cups, plates, silverware. It is located on a beautiful lagoon with great park's second away. Super close to the farmer's market and other great places. Will forsure recommend and visit agy.

Yelp
As a past resident of Hilo, I have stayed in variety of places on this side from the island when returning. I felt Emma The location for this place is great. That said everything else sucks. The place is run down and if you are lucky, you won't have a room that looks like it was furnished with the best from Goodwill. No AC. One thing with the location to note though is that there's somewhat shady people that hang out in the area. While you should always take precaution and not leave crap in your car, be more cautious here as there are riff raff types in this neck of the woods. Your choices of lodging is fairly limited in Hilo. Uncle Billy's was my preferred place to stay for value, comfort, and location, but now it's sadly condemned. There's a poster here who doesn't know wtf she is talking about. She said most hotels in Hilo don't have AC. The somewhat normal hotel and motel have AC, and the majority of condos that tourists may rent via Airbnb often have it. The crap lodging doesn't (while Uncle Billy's was crap lodging, they even had AC ,but that may have been in certain rooms).

Yelp
AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I wish I kept track of all the staff who helped but there were too many so I'll say ALL THE STAFF ARE AMAZING AND FULL OF AUTHENTIC ALOHA!!! Very accommodative and helpful from the moment I called before the hurricane until I departed... just amazing, the rooms are like miniture condos or studios with microwave, refer, three fans, flat screen TV and incredible staff!!!
google avatar

Kerri N.

Yelp
No air conditioning, but they do provide you a cheap fan & a ceiling fan that may fall on you (super loose and shakes). No elevators, so you'll be carrying your toddlers / luggage up and down the stairs. Pool towels are to be returned at the pool, and you must dry up before leaving the pool, so if you have kids pull them out at least 15min before it's time to go, cause if you're wet when leaving the pool, you won't be allowed back in the SMALL pool for the rest of your stay. The beds are large, but on the FIRM side and feel kind of squeaky and old. Pros: Full size refrigerator, microwave, soda machine downstairs, vending machine (that was out of order during our stay), good parking since the hotel isn't very busy.

Yelp
WOW! And not in a good way. This place is about as clean and modern as some third world country hostels! It wouldn't be bad if the prices matched what you got, but this place is a DUMP considering what you're paying. 1. Towels had dark brown crusts on it. Is it poop? Is it dirt? Who knows?!?! 2. Bed had dirt, hair and other debris under the covers. Nasty grease and other "stains" on the sheets and pillows (I just slept on top of it all, wore my hoodie and pants, used my towel as a blanket. Wished I had a tarp to throw over it, actually) 3. Shower was filthy. Refused to risk the inevitable infection. I'd rather smell on my way home, thank you very much! 4. Lady at check-in counter? RUDE and acted like she was too busy to help. Sorry I interrupted you browsing on your phone, but you're on the clock. Deal. 5. Cinder block construction, disgusting moldy smelling carpet all throughout the halls, pool was gross looking. I only needed a place to crash for a night at the very end of a great but exhausting vacation. That is the ONLY reason I didn't leave. Elena's Tip? GO ANYWHERE ELSE!!

Ivy R.

Yelp
this place was ass they treated us very poorly we're from LA we just moved here and we wanted to stay in a nice hotel for 2 nights it's very pretty and nice but the employees where garbage they told us we should go back to where we came from and they told us to shut up when a man fell and hurt himself very bad they screamed at him and told him to not leave his room like a child and they told us we couldn't use the washers when the sign clearly said you could use them 24hours And even the owner gave us dirty looks and everything about them was just off it was a nice place but they just need to check themselves next time also they charged us 3 times thinking we were dumb and we were smart so we got our money back but if it wasn't for us double checking we would have got scammed

Yelp
I've literally stayed here 10-15 times. I've stayed at majority of the hotels in Hilo. This is in my top 2 choices of hotels in Hilo. The other is the more expensive Grand N... in the new wing. Feel free to read my other posts regarding hotels in Hilo. Reeds Bay is in a great location and great for the price. Walking distance to go swimming in the bay. The area is gorgeous no matter where you walk to. The hotel has a full size fridge which is rare for any hotel in Hilo and great in Hawaii cuz let's face it, it can be expensive eating out for every meal. The rooms on the bay with a balcony is fantastic and worth the few extra bucks. You can go to sleep listening to the waves. The rooms on the other side is just looking at a large apartment building. Not so great. The staff is nice and friendly. The towels and sheets have always been clean and smell fresh and the rooms are cleaned daily. Regarding other post, no it does not have A/C but most hotels and building downtown don't. If you haven't noticed many buildings were built in early 1900s!! Cinder blocks actually keep the building cooler. However, it would be better if the rooms had black out curtains. It helps keep the rooms cooler plus many guest like to have them when sleeping. The showers are small and if management reads this I suggest adding a shower caddy or some type of shelving! That's probably my biggest complaint. Also, a full size mirror would be great. Hope this helps

Yelp
Went to ask for new sheets and the lady at the counter had the nerve to ask me if my child peed on them and then when I told her no she asked then why do I need new sheets. Like seriously. Smh horrible service. Won't be staying here again

Yelp
Bait and switch! Booked this hotel on Travelocity. Got the confirmation email from Travelocity saying no further action is required. Then left for my 5 hour hike to see the lava. Got to the hotel about 8:30pm to find that they claim to have cancelled my reservation at some point during my hike. No explanation of why this happened. So I show my reservation to the worker at the front desk and she would not honor it. However, they do have a more expensive room for me. Makes me wonder if they are trying to get out of paying Travelocity its commission or if they know they can just scam guest like me who are tired and not wanting to have to search for another room that late in the evening. Nevertheless, I ended up taking the more expensive room (what choice did I really have?) and stayed the night. Room was ok, not great. No AC, but it had fans. Shower was extremely small and kind of gross. I wore my slippers in the shower and tried not to touch the walls. The outside stairs are slippery too. Travelocity is usually pretty good about booking respectable places, but this is an exception. Travelocity really shouldn't let hotels do this kind of thing to travelers.

Yelp
Joined my partner for a 1-night work trip at this hotel. It was free for us and the affordable option for his employer to put us up there. The parking on site is free, but can be limited. We snagged the last stall after returning late from a cruise drive. The room was simple, yet clean. Scanned carefully for bed bugs, all clear in our room. No A/C, but there were definitely two stand fans and possibly one ceiling fan if I recall correctly. Easy check in and check out process. Smell of herb in the air periodically. Didn't feel dangerous or too sketchy, just a more colorful clientele than some other hotels. I wouldn't balk at staying on this property again. Realistically, would pay a bit extra to stay in a more upgraded property if I was making the lodging arrangements for myself, but if I couldnt this is a decent option.

Yelp
My brother and I was going to stay at Reeds Bay Hotel for the night . Unfortunately we were told that they are not accepting guests unless they have a negative covid test or vaccinated even if we live on the island. We decided to go to Hilo Hawaiian .

Yelp
Terrible service!!!!!!!!!!!! Save your money and stay somewhere else. The two ladies that helped us today at the front desk was very rude and very unprofessional. Please do better! Who wants to come off of a flight feeling exhausted and be treated so rudely! Thanks to the front desk for ruining my family's first day here in Hilo. Next time we are going somewhere else.

Yelp
This hotel is the cheapest we've found so far in Hilo town. It's older, but still worth it. They have a full size refrigerator and microwave with sink and a few dishes. The parking is limited but they have a security guard monitoring the parking. He's very friendly and accommodating. We always have a great experience here

Yelp
Terrible Service! Walked in to roaches in the room, no air conditioner, and cheap fans to "keep cool". Walked back out to get refund and was insulted by the receptionist who was automatically on the defense when I informed her of the conditions. She then stated sarcastically, "What did you expect for $85 a night...you must be of royal blood". Very snarky front desk! They refused to help in any way. DO NOT BOOK HERE! Trust me when I say you are better off spending the extra dollars to get better service. Lesson learned!

Yelp
Happy to report that my experience here was wonderful. Lily checked us in, and was very welcoming. She gave us the run down, and was personable the entire time. The room was cute, clean, and has everything you need. Would definitely stay again..

Yelp
Positives: Women working desk were super cool. We chatted for a while during check in, very friendly. Great location- A mile or two to downtown Hilo, walking to a couple of good spots to eat. Price- super cheap compared to surrounding hotels. Room has a kitchenette. Free parking Tv with cable Not so positives: No AC- didn't realize this when booking. Charged extra fee for my kids?! Never been to a place that charges a kid fee. Is this like a pet deposit in case they wet the bed or something? No bathtub Room could use updating (but hey - you get what you pay for, remember it's CHEAP)!

Yelp
Main reason I have them 1 star is that NONE of the rooms have Airconditioning.... I couldn't believe this, I thought it was just our room. Besides that... the room was clean, satisfactory, small kitchen area, fridge, sink.... the pool is small and closed at 7pm. No elevator to rooms, luckily they have just 3 floors... free ice from large ice machine.. parking is free and close to the room.

Yelp
Old school. A bit dingy and scruffy but the beds were luxurious and it was quite clean. Right in the center of Hilo and half the price of a fancier hotel.

Yelp
No words can describe the horror we encountered here. Management's husband was rude and unprofessional. We registered my service animal and he yelled at my fiancé that we didn't register our service dog. He than seen our record attempts to apologize than yelled at us again and told us to leave and don't return. Not only that the house maids are rude broke my fiancé screen from the tablet didn't apologize management did nothing to fix the problem. They don't clean the room well. Puts the same old sheets on the bed. Black mold growing on the window fans aren't cleaned. They snoop through the drawers. We paid $4,515.52 for a month of hell slamming doors and chairs being dragged across the ground. House maids listening to our conversations and a guy got caught standing by our door trying to listen to my daughters talk. This place isn't safe. The security guard gives you parking and other guests gets mad and talks about you. It's ridiculous. I don't recommend this place at all.

Yelp
I booked this hotel for two nights and checked out after the first night. This hotel has no AC they provided two fans but they just kept blowing hot air. The ceiling fan was covered in dust and the window handles were broken. The heat brought out roaches and they had bugs when we checked between the mattress. Half the night we spent in our car. They also have no elevators which made things more difficult with the kids. This was the worst hotel I ever stayed in .

Yelp
This place is centrally located to everything you want to see on the Hilo side of the big island. The kitchenette comes in handy to make breakfast. But be ready to be stalked and regulated on your "vacation " by the owners of the hotel, who live in the property. The pool closes super early so don't plan on cooling down after a day of hiking or beach day back at your room. Also be sure your acclimated to the hot sticky weather because there is no A/C and no cross breeze unless you leave your door open. It's fine because the warden makes his rounds on a regular basis to insure your quiet. Maids and staff are friendly and helpful otherwise.

Yelp
Small hotel, comfortable, clean, with fresh breezes blowing, located right on Reed's Bay. The water was literally a stone's throw away. Modest but I prefer this informal spot to the larger fancier hotels just down the road. I wasn't sure what to expect but I have been very relaxed and comfortable here. I was worried I would need AC but with breezes coming off the bay and also through large louvered windows on the side, it was always pleasant during my stay. A kitchenette has also been useful with a small refrigerator w/ nice size freezer, microwave, sink, dishes etc. Some rooms have lanais but my room has a little more space with a sofa and coffee table.
