7 Best Hotels in Helsinki, Finland, for 2025 Stays | Condé Nast Traveler

"The Hilton Helsinki Strand’s à la carte restaurant presents a window into Finnish cuisine—preservation, experimentation and hyper-local ingredients—with dishes like reindeer with juniper and scallops with vanilla, alongside a Scandi take on the Hilton club for room service." - Matt Charlton

Three-night stay was excellent. Used the Hilton Honors app to for pre-checkin and selecting my room. Nice feature. Actual checkin process was straightforward. Customer service was throughout my stay was excellent. My standard King room was cozy. Bed was comfortable and room was clean. Bathroom was functional and enjoyed having a bathtub. Room is showing normal wear and tear, but nothing too egregious. Cost was budget friendly when compared to other hotels. Location was okay. Close proximity to public transport options, so getting around the city wasn't terrible. Breakfast was delicious and nice spread.

Nice hotel in the city centre, just a few kilometres from the zoo. Everything was really good, including the service and facilities such as the sauna and small pool, which guests can use without limits. The executive lounge was also an amazing experience. At breakfast, the porridge was excellent. However, the grilled vegetables contained a lot of chili, and unfortunately this was not marked anywhere on the info board. The reception staff were very friendly and genuinely helpful.

The Hilton Helsinki Strand was the highlight of our vacation. The room was spacious and the entire staff went out of their way to help us with all of our requests. The swimming pool did not feel heated to me but I was only there for a few minutes. Breakfast was good but kind of limited in options compared to other hotels. The front desk staff which was comprised of young people helped us with our lack of knowledge of the area and made excellent recommendations for local food and taxis. I would highly recommend this location because it felt like luxury without the high price.

Overall really awful and disappointing experience at Hilton Helsinki Strand. Unfortunately doesn't match the standard of other Hilton's and needs lots of improvement. On arrival, we checked in at around 4pm and due to my gold status, had been upgraded. We asked for a room with a view of the sea (main reason for staying) and we're provided one by T who was kind and helpful. However, it went downhill from here. Once we got to the room (644) the room was 23.5 degrees. We tried using the AC to cool the room but this was dated and unfortunately broken. Reception were contacted about this via the app, and they responded to say it takes a while to cool down and that they would check the master settings. We went out and returned to the hotel 3 hours later and the room was still 23.5 degrees celcius. We contacted them again, and we're told we could open the window (which we did - this opened fully and for a room on the 6th floor, is a safety hazard!). We declined the fan as we were already dealing with other issues with the room. Unfortunately, as other reviews have pointed out the bed is like rock. The springs dug into us and it was not Hilton regular standard or quality. We contacted the reception, and asked for a mattress topper or another duvet. We were informed they would bring a spare duvet up. I had explained that I live with chronic pain and disability and when A arrived to the room with the duvet, she did jot apologise and said that she prefers a hard mattress for her back. We made up the bed with additional duvet for padding. Unfortunately this did not make a difference. We repeated the process of requesting another duvet twice more. At which point we were told 'if we were used to very soft beds at home, this would feel different'. This felt really condescending and dissaapointing. Having stayed In Hilton's around the world for more than 50 nights this year, I never usually have an issue. Eventually, we were brought a mattress protector to put on top of the duvets - this had a blood stain in the middle and was unclean. Throughout this process we explained our disappointment, and we're looking for alternative hotels (had it not been 10pm at this point, we would have moved). The staff did not apologise or seem to care. The room itself is dated and shows wear and tear. The whole hotel needs refurbishment and is not in line with the star rating, brand or other similar priced hotels nearby. Breakfast food options were good. Executive lounge was fine, small and could have benefited from bigger selection and choice, but was okay. Other Hilton exec lounges provide better value. On check out, we spoke again with A, who did not seem at all concerned about our dissaapointing experience. In fact, she did not ask us how our stay was - we had to raise this. She said 'next time we can compensate you'. I explained that unless there was considerable change, that we wouldn't be back. She shrugged and didn't seem to care. She was rude and I felt uncomfortable and dismissed. There was no offer of compensation, refund or points from the hotel - absolutely nothing. I am hoping to hear from the manager regarding this given the issues we raised at chdck out. I strongly recommend choosing a different hotel until changes are made both in staff training, and facilities of the building. Seriously dissaapointing.

My wife and I stayed July 24th and 25th. We arrived to the HEL airport, took the train to the main train station, then walked about 20 minutes to the hotel. Carrying a small backpack, and pulling along a carry on size roller bag, it was an easy walk for us. We arrived around 3:30pm, we were greeted right away, and in our 6th floor room in no time. Our room overlooked the adjacent waterway, and out south, towards the gulf of Finland. A lovely view. Our room was quite large. It looked and smelled good. It was very clean. Everything worked great. The room was very welcoming. It was super quiet too. We did not do any dining at the hotel. Everyone we met from the hotel was very friendly. We had a wonderful 2 night stay, and would absolutely return.

Google
Worst check-in experience ever Before my arrival, I was already in contact with the hotel via chat, as the airline had lost my luggage. Communication there was very friendly and helpful. I also noticed that King rooms in the same category as my booking had become available. It was then agreed that both of my Twin rooms would be changed to King, and that for any possible Diamond upgrade, a King room would also be selected. However, the check-in at the hotel with J. turned out to be by far the worst experience: We were three people with two rooms (one Hilton Diamond, one Hilton Gold). Both status levels are entitled to an upgrade. Even though J. confirmed that plenty of better rooms were available, the upgrades were refused. The reasons given (“a VIP gift already in the room” or “because the guest pre-selected a room, upgrades are excluded”) are not only illogical but also directly contradict the prior agreement. On top of that, the hotel itself looks dated and worn down – neither the facilities nor the service meet the standard one would expect from a Hilton property. This level of service is absolutely disappointing. It really raises the question why this hotel is part of the Hilton group at all if it doesn’t want to follow the rules – and why Hilton even promotes the Hilton Honors program if the benefits are simply not honored. One star on top for the “VIP-present” (a sparkling wine, which was nice).

Stayed in a sea view room. Initially was given a room that could hardly see any sea, the room also had a very unpleasant strong smell of sweat, had to open the windows all night to get rid of the smell. Did some research, the room we were given was just not right from the booking description. Had a talk with the reception and finally got a room that we supposed to stay after two days, nice view, such a shame we had to miss out initially. Explanation from reception was misunderstanding. Given we didn't book directly from the hotel, we were told we would need to get compensation through the booking company. |Good location, pretty quiet. All necessary Crabtree Evelyn amenities were available. Furniture was dated. Front desk staff was quite helpful. Bar tender was friendly. There was a rather big construction site across from the front of the hotel, not sure how noisy it could be as were out all the time during the day.

Hotel and staff were great. Great location. Breakfast buffet was good. Had some issues with room service for breakfast. On-site restaurant and lounge was perfect, food was delicious and service great!|Took Uber mostly as taxis were very expensive. Enjoyed our stay in Helsinki.

Yelp
What a gorgeous Hilton! I stayed one night here in August. Room had air conditioning and plenty of space. There is a tram location outside the hotel if you do not want to walk back to the center. There were not a lot of restaurants open late nearby, but there is a grocery store and a McDonalds. I was able to eat at the breakfast buffet which was perfect to start my day. It included several Finnish foods to try as well!

Yelp
Our room had a beautiful view of the sea. Location is good--a 1-15 minute walk to Finlandia Hall, the Esplanade, and the Market Place. We had very nice service throughout the hotel, and extra good service from Hasam on multiple occasions at breakfast and in the executive lounge.

Yelp
I'm a Diamond member and stay exclusively at Hilton properties so I was happy to find this gem in Helsinki. The 7th floor is executive level and they have an executive lounge but like most Hilton's the lounge id not what they were before the pandemic and are operating at a much lower standard. Food is mediocre and the lounge isn't staffed so I recommend eating breakfast at the restaurant downstairs and not the lounge if you are a member status and have the free breakfast option. The buffet downstairs is excellent. The 8th floor has a nice indoor pool, gym and sauna's. Make sure you reserve a private sauna when you check in or you can join the mens or women's community sauna. Sauna's are part of the Finnish culture so be sure to experience it. The staff are very knowledgeable and will give directions and recommendations for restaurants as well as call you a taxi from one of the companies with the best rates. If you are taking a taxi from somewhere else to this Hilton note that there are two Hilton properties and the drivers call this one the Hilton by the seaside since it's on the water. Definitely recommend this place. The rooms were spacious and clean and it was a great experience staying there.

Yelp
Dated property, big rooms, executive lounge is basically closed, reasonable service (hit or miss, some very nice, some not so much), very meh kind of breakfast buffet which is extraordinarily expensive on Sundays. Beware the restaurant hours are posted as open until 11pm but in reality it closes at 10pm (last food orders in) and last call is around 1020pm for the bar. Why can't they just be honest? Location is good, can walk almost everywhere we needed to go (except the convention center). Taxis work well here; either ask the front desk or use the Hesinki taxi app.

Yelp
Three nights here and it was very good. This is a full-service Hilton, meaning that they have an on-site restaurant, valet services and a lobby bar. There is also an executive lounge on the 7th floor for those who have higher status in the Hilton Honors rewards program. The hotel is located a very short walk from the Hakaniemi metro station (two stops from central station), making it easy to explore Helsinki easily by metro or by tram. It's also a 1km walk to the main parts of the city. I was assigned a room on the 6th floor that fortunately did not have a connecting door. With a nice view of the nearby canal side, it was very comfortable. The room featured a firm king sized bed, work desk with EU style power outlets, a stocked mini-fridge (that I never touched), a hot water heater and coffee/tea service and a nice bathroom with heated floors. I did not have the housekeeping services and they honored the "do not disturb" sign on the door, so I was able to leave my stuff about and not be concerned about cleaning staff. It was a lovely room and when I return to Helsinki, I would stay here again. [Review 10050 overall, 1635 of 2018.]

Yelp
BEAUTIFULLY DONE HOTEL, TOP NOTCH ROOMS & ADMIRABLE STAFF! I have stayed in several hotels worldwide but this is by far my favorite! LOCATION: The hotel is quiet centrally located with easy walking access to harbor area and senate square. The tram, bus and metro station is at the back of the hotel and hence easy connectivity to kampii, downtown or airport. STAFF: The staff at the check in is very friendly and comply to all the reasonable request in no time. The check in process is very smooth. The service staff both in cleaning and restaurant are very nice and make you feel lime you are queen ! AMBIENCE: The hotel is very nicely decorated. The main reception area is beautiful and have fireplace for cOzy setting. Adjacent is the huge buffet area ( also known at BRO restaurant) and hot breakfast is included in the price. There is a waterfall and cute fish pond right next to the check in area. ROOM: Everytime I stayed ( and that is alot in past two years), I get upgraded to the executive floor with view facing the see or Canal. The executive suites have very modern decor. the king beds are huge, soft and are facing the view which is beauty to behold a the first thing in the morning. The bathroom tiles are heated and vanities including tub are quiet modern. The reading desk is nice and is either on the back of the bed in some room or parallel inothers, BUFFET: the breakfast buffet has a spread of selections including breads, yogurts, different milks, porridge, cheeses, fruits, sandwich assembles, different type of eggs, smoothies, sauces, sausages, hot foods, croissant, juices, tea, cakes and coffee. Everything is delicious and if you prefer your eggs in any other ways then prepared then you can always ask and staff is always happy to oblige :) P.S: Executive lounge has free snacks, juices teas and expresso drinks all day long. Free booze and Hot tapas is served from 5-7pm I highly reccomend staying here if you are in Finland!

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here during our stay in Helsinki. It's centrally located to many things and not far away from the central train station. There is a fully equipped gym, breakfast, pool, sauna, restaurant located in the hotel (Bro), executive lounge, etc. We had an upgraded room with a postcard view. Inside we had a nice size bed, desk area, mini bar, & complimentary water & chocolate in the room. The staff was amazing and answered all our questions. They sell the Helsinki card at the desk which is recommended for touring the city. Note with the card, many of the museums in May are closed on Mondays. Note, if you are vegan, vegetarian, and or gluten free there are plenty of options at breakfast downstairs. There is a section dedicated to these dietary needs which is helpful and rare in my travels. The restaurant, BRO, that is attached to the hotel also has these options labeled on their menu if you choose to dine at the restaurant.

Yelp
We stayed here for a one night layover on our way home from Spain. What a great introduction to Helsinki! This spot is right on the water and a bike rental stand and a quick ten minute scenic walk to the Esplanadi. The executive lounge was lovely with little things to nosh on. The attendant of the lounge, Rosa, was really lovely and helpful. She had great recommendations for our few hours in the city. Breakfast was included with our stay for the next morning and it's a full buffet of just about any breakfast food you could possibly think of. And they have signs that say if they don't have what you are looking for, to let them know. They make it for you fresh! Plus the rooms were beautiful. We were very happy staying here. It's only a half hour (maybe less) back to the airport, too! The front desk was also very helpful and gave us great suggestions!

Yelp
I am a Hilton diamond member and Hilton property is always my first choice wherever I go. This Hilton at Helsinki is probably one of the best Hilton I have been to. The main reason is the excellent staffs and its executive lounge. I was upgraded to executive floor prior to arrival, staffs are very helpful in making sure i have good experience here. My baggage was delayed and I have nothing. They not only provided me with some necessities but only guide me to where I can find clothes, coats and grocery. I can't survive Helsinki cold without coats so really appreciate their help. The executive lounge was relocated to first floor due to pandemic. The breakfast at the executive lounge is one of the best, with variety of food choices with some Finnish speciality. The karjalanpiirakka is so delicious, remember to top it with egg butter. The rye bread is equally good and something not to miss. The evening social event is excellent with some drinks choices. The room I have is a king executive, it's quite spacious with nice view towards the river. Cleanliness is top notch, kudos to housekeeping team. The location is why I chose this property and it truly within walking distance to almost all major attractions. There is good public transportation in Helsinki with bus and tram stops nearby so you can literally go anywhere from here with ease. This will be my to go hotel in Helsinki and highly recommended.

Yelp
Customer service is unbeatable. Manu went out of his way to help me and I could not have made it through my day without him. He made my stay a wonderful one!

Yelp
Nice hotel. Only 5minutes walking from the airport. Breakfast is very popular, you gotta to hurry if you wanna try salmon satay before it finishes!

Yelp
This hotel was really nice- they upgraded us to an executive suite which had an awesome view of the water. The breakfast had a good variety of things. I was worried about that because of my new pescetarian diet and the majority of other hotel breakfasts include a limited selection of bacon, ham, sausage, and bread. This Hilton had all that along with salmon, fruit, yogurt, quark, oatmeal, and different styled eggs. (The eggs were all slightly overcooked. The boiled egg had that darker yolk and the fried eggs didn't have a runny yolk... Tasted a bit rubbery.) BUT the Karelian pastry was amazingggggg. Top it off with the provided egg salad. Just note the breakfast is slightly different each day. They didn't have the Karelian pastry on Saturday, but it was available on Sunday. The complimentary Peter Thomas Roth items in the bathroom were nice. I love that brand so it was a good surprise. I liked that the workout room was on the top floor rather than a dingy basement. The equipment was in good shape. The pool is a bit on the smaller side, but it's nice to have!! They have a built in aquarium into the wall of the pool, so you feel like you're hanging out with the fishies. The hotel is located relatively convenient to the center of town. We walked pretty much everywhere with the exception of the cab ride to the hotel from the pier. Our flight isn't until 4pm, so the hotel lobby staff was accommodating and gave us an extended checkout time. So we are allowed to hang here until 2pm. Thanks Hilton!!

Yelp
Definitely one of the best Hilton hotels I've visited. I can see why it's rated as one of the top in Helsinki. Check in was quite easy. I had a couple toiletry requests and even the front desk clerk personally brought up a few items to my room. I had the executive suite that overlooked a lake and part of the city. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable, and the bathroom (as well as the entire room) had a clean modern look. The desk was made as part of the bed head rest (on the opposite side, of course). So if you're rooming with someone else, one can work on a computer without disrupting the other laying in bed. Breakfast is served each morning in both the executive suite, on the 7th floor, and in the restaurant on the bottom floor. Unless you have some important business matters, I suggest going downstairs. The selection is pretty much the same but downstairs has a few more food options to choose from. They serve everything from salmon, bratwurst, sausages, eggs, potatoes, vegetables, yogurt, smoothies, and various fruit juices. This hotel is located just a mile away from the big shopping center that Helsinki has to offer. It's a nice walk if you're up for it or just a $10 cab/Uber ride. I really enjoyed the city of Helsinki and when I return, I will definitely be going back to this hotel.

Yelp
I stayed here over the Easter weekend. The hotel was within easy walking distance of Helsinki's main tourist sites plus it was close to the Metro. Our room faced the canal which was frozen over and covered with snow during our entire stay, but offered a good view. I really liked the lobby/main seating area which had a warm fire running at all times. The area also had plenty of tables to eat and grab a drink or in the mornings eat breakfast. There is a sauna and swimming pool on the top floor but I found them a little small and crowded. The staff were all helpful and were able to make a reservation at a local restaurant for dinner. I really liked the hotel and would definitely stay here again if I ever return to Helsinki.

Nikki P.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stayed here on our trip to Finland and it was just perfect. The room was so large, clean, and comfortable! The beds felt like fluffy clouds and the overall general area was so appealing. The best part is that the gym was open 24/7, which was nice for us because we were from California and jet lagged. The sauna and pool were also nice! We would have stayed in the hotel all day. Def recommend staying here if you visit Helsinki !
google avatar

John G.

Yelp
PROS: Got a view facing south overlooking the canal. Nice! Work table also sat in front of the window which was a nice added touch. Rate was fairly competitive compared to other international hotels. Sleep quality was decent and I did get a King size bed. Free bicycle rental. Very helpful staff Heated bathroom floor Hilton points CONS: 10,00 Euro internet for 24 hours. A SLIGHTLY longer walk to downtown (this is really not a big deal unless you are averse to walking an extra 5 minutes to the shops and station!)
google avatar

Jacob U.

Yelp
We were upgraded to a room on the executive floor with a room facing the canal. What a view! The only thing that made it better was a bed that was oriented to look out into the window. The room itself was clean and comfortable, although I had trouble lowering the temperature to the cold I like. The blackout curtains worked very well, which is important since the son never really sets in Finland. The executive lounge was disappointing, smoking was allowed on its balcony which ended up inside the lounge. The food and drink in the lounge was ok, at best. Breakfast, on the other hand, was fantastic. I particuarly liked the whole (not sliced) cold smoked salmon. We would stay here agin.
google avatar

Myde D.

Yelp
The only positive here was the daily breakfast, everything else was subpar. Room comfort and location weren't the greatest. My main issue with the room was the air conditioning, prepare to suffer. For what they consider their "heat wave" the air conditioning was at a steady 24.5 degrees Celsius. The thermostat didn't work and when I called the front desk I was told it took 2 to 3 hours to cool the room to my desired temperature. I believe that was just an excuse to get me off the phone because the air conditioning never worked during my stay. Housekeeping was equally a disaster. One would expect a hotel room to be cleaned no later than 1400hrs daily as this is the typical check in time. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. The first day, it was my room that hadn't been cleaned as late as 1600hrs, this was after a long day of excursions and I needed to get in the bed badly. The next day, the same thing happened to my buddy in a different room. The quality of service was just not there in general. Another thing to keep in mind about this Hilton is that no loyalty perks are afforded no matter your Hilton Honors status if you do not book directly through their websites. I understand not getting the points but you get absolutely nothing, else not even bottled water and that was with my current gold status. I wouldn't recommend this hotel or stay here in the future.
google avatar

Nina B.

Yelp
The decorations in this hotel seemed a little outdated, but it was comfy and clean. The hotel is pretty close to the train and bus station and the staff is quite helpful. The breakfast buffet was yummy had a wide range of options.

David C.

Yelp
Old fashioned decor and the in house movies are not "on demand"!

Danielle C.

Yelp
Perfectly nice hotel for a business trip to Helsinki. Staff were pleasant and changed my room when I didn't want two single beds. Location is an easy walk to town and handy enough for the airport. The lift was a little old but it was nice to see the full atrium from it
google avatar

T M.

Yelp
Great hotel in a very convenient location. I stay here for work and really my only critique is there could be more to offer at the gym. Food's a little pricey too, but that's why God gave us legs and taxis!!
google avatar

Fred S.

Yelp
We enjoyed our stay at the Hilton Strand. I agree with an earlier review that some aspects of the hotel are a bit worn (carpets, for example) but the rooms are clean, amenities plentiful, and the staff is very warm and friendly. We had a terrific room on the 6th floor with a sea view. The bed was extremely comfortable. There's a small, but adequate workout room on the top floor. We never used the sauna or swimming pool as hours were a bit limited, but the area looked well maintained. The hotel has an excellent breakfast buffet with lots of variety. People staying in executive level rooms can also have breakfast in the 7th floor executive lounge. I have to give special kudos to Hanna, one of the front desk agents. For three successive evenings, Hanna made wonderful recommendations for dinner and then proceeded to book reservations for us. We observed the importance of reservations as people were regularly turned away from restaurants when just walking in off the street. Finally, the location of this hotel is excellent. Its a short walk to the center of town, including the Esplanade, the ferry, and the design district. We'll stay here again on our next visit to Helsinki.
