I'm a Hilton Rewards Diamond member for the past 10 years. My wife and I booked a room for one night on our Anniversary. 77,000 points when most Hilton hotels in the area are in the 30-40,000 range. This should be special, right? Nice hotel, but not before being hit in the face with a $35 parking fee. When I spoke to the front desk clerk, he apologized and informed me I was misled. The parking is $40.85! Then he proceeded to demonstrate on his phone another hotel in the Hilton chain and they tell you their parking is free. So, by his logic, if the hotel doesn't tell you their parking is free, they are free to charge anything they want. So, if you're thinking of staying at a Hilton hotel, you need to search their website and ensure it says 'free parking' on the third page into looking for hidden charges and surprises.
That seems shady at best!
Ok, so a very Loyal Diamond Member is staying in their hotel. Their Loyalty Page states they CAN upgrade the member in several ways: Room upgrade, Floor upgrade, view upgrade, passes for the member and guest to the Executive Lounge, among others. Me? Oh , I got a view of some fat blobs in the pool, even though I selected Ocean View. Technically, I am on the 'Ocean View' side of the building, but only on the 2nd floor. So, yeah, I can see the horizon where the ocean meets the sky, but no beach view. Again, semantics and wordplay= SHADY BUSINESS PRACTICES!!
So, at this hotel, your loyalty and Diamond member status do not amount to any consideration or appreciation. Hilton themselves do not seem to want to help either as I called them and asked for a little consideration here. All I got was a thinly-veiled, "Gee, real sorry we pissed on your special evening!"
I wonder how they will feel when a guest steps in dogcrap and tracks it throughout their resort accidentally?
I personally wouldn't stoop to such tactics, but right now I'd certainly like to.
