The Hilton Munich City has the benefit of being located right next to the Rosenheimer Platz S-Bahn station which is a quick 2 stops away from Marienplatz where you can transfer to most of the other S-Bahn or U-Bahn lines that run through Munich. English Garden, Allianz Arena, BMW Welt, it's all pretty much a few dozen minutes away by the highly efficient and timely German railway.
However, other than it's proximity to the S-Bahn station, there's just not much else in the immediate area of this HIlton. There are a few local restaurants, shops, markets and bakeries, you're just around the corner from the alley of Italian restaurants off Steinstrasse. The Deutsches Museum is a short 10 minute walk away but otherwise, the area is decidedly dreary and industrial.
The hotel itself was perfectly fine. Rooms were clean, new, modern, and comfortable. Ice machines were available on every floor and there is a restaurant in the lobby. Expensive paid Wi-Fi is available but is, of course, free for Hilton HHonors Gold and Diamond members. Staff was friendly. The fitness center on Level 5 was incredible - with dumbbells, machines, treadbills, elliptical, stationary bike, and plenty of space. The morning breakfast spread was large and German and amazing.
There really isn't much to criticize about this hotel other than the location leaves something to be desired for the high price being paid to stay here. But the convenience of the S-Bahn station just steps outside the lobby doors does make up for a lot.
