8 Best Hotels in Kansas City, Missouri for a Local Stay - AFAR

"Occupying a 1926 art-deco building near the T-Mobile Center and the Kansas City Convention Center, the hotel feels like a step back in time with historic venues such as the Drum Room lounge and club—opened in 1941 and once frequented by Frank Sinatra, Patsy Cline, and Benny Goodman—and a Walnut Room breakfast space complete with original stained-glass windows and rich wood columns. Guests can also dine at a modern restaurant that emphasizes locally sourced steaks and fresh seafood." - Tonya Russell

Listen, I will say this. I booked this hotel for the secure parking as my cousin and I were moving cross country with most of our stuff in our cars. This hotel served the purpose of security and our stuff not getting stolen. However, I wouldn't stay here again. Simply because of the cleanliness of the hotel. Our room had multiple stains on the floor, on the walls, and I even spotted one on the inside of the curtains. Plus, on the wall side of the bed I slept on it was COVERED in dust. The shower floor was also stained. There was a hair in my cousin's bedding, and a strange tangle of red and black fibers on one of my pillows. I understand this is a historical hotel but that's no reason for it to not be clean. The rooms and beds were also a lot smaller than I was expecting for the price. We'd stayed in a Courtyard by Marriott and a Hampton Inn (also a Hilton hotel) and those rooms were clean and were up to par with what I had paid. Thankfully, while a couple of reviews mentioned bed bugs we didn't experience that. The breakfast was also not worth the $15 a person that I paid for it. It was buffet style and while it offered some good options (I'm a huge fan of breakfast tomatoes and was pleasantly surprised they had them included) but most of the food was a little bland, the eggs weren't done, and the coffee wasn't that great.

I can't say enough great things about my experience at the Hilton President Kansas City. The hotel location is fantastic and super close to everything. The room was AMAZING and the hotel vibe and experience incredible! I would like to thank all of the associates throughout every part of the hotel for making my stay absolutely perfect and for the first class service! I knew I was at the right hotel when I pulled up to the Valet station and met Matthew, and then Anita at the front desk while checking in. They were both so warm and welcoming. Then I went to the beautiful Drum Room Lounge for a cold cocktail and met Adam. If you live in KC or anywhere close and haven't been to the Drum Room Lounge to have Adam make you one of his signature cocktails, you're missing out. He's one of the most creative mixologist I've met and every drink was fire! I also want to give Chris at the front desk and Nick at the Starbucks in the lobby a special thank you for making the start of my day so pleasant and for putting a smile on my face. Plus, I want to thank Matt the Food and Beverage Director for the delicious meal and excellent service I received at the Providence. Now let me give a big shoutout to Philip, the Hilton President GM for assembling such a fantastic team. Well done! Thank you again Hilton President Kansas City for making my stay absolutely fantastic, and I can't wait to visit your amazing property again. See you soon.

The front desk staff provided truly exceptional service. When I requested a microwave to warm water for my baby's formula, they promptly provided one. However, the breakfast could be improved, as the food lacked flavor. The room felt somewhat compact, and the bed appeared smaller than those I have experienced at other Hilton hotels, like Hampton Inn. On the third day of our stay, I noticed a stain on the comforter, which was a slight concern. I contacted the front desk, and Victoria was very apologetic and assured me she would inform housekeeping. She also generously offered 10,000 Hilton points. Despite those minor issues, the location was excellent, and the parking was convenient.

We had previously never stayed in a hotel in downtown Kansas City. This is the nicest Hilton Hotel we have stayed in around the KC area. People were friendly and helpful. The architecture is incredible. And our room was so quite. My wife left several items of clothing in the hotel room, and they worked quickly during a holiday weekend to ensure the items would be returned to her.

The Hilton President is the most magical place to get married! Everyone that works there is incredibly thoughtful, the food is delicious, and the rooms are spotless! Angie and Bri do an amazing job at taking care of you throughout the entire planning process and day of the wedding. They go above and beyond when it comes to making you feel special. The venue is so beautiful on its own that you don't even need decor. We will remember our special weekend forever and stay at the Hilton President for years to come!

Google
Great location in the heart of downtown. The rooms were very spacious and nice. Prior reviews said the rooms did not have a fridge, but our room had a mini fridge with a freezer. It looks like they may have recently remodeled the rooms. There is no breakfast included, but we knew that when we booked. We worked out in the gym, and the equipment was nice and in working order. The gym was a typical hotel sized gym. Parking is across the alley in a secure parking garage. Parking is an additional daily cost. Overall we had a great experience and you can't beat the location.

Google
Amazing stay! We had our wedding rehearsal and wedding party stay here when we got married. Love the history of the President. Staff was very polite and helpful. Special thanks to Pablo and Corey at the front desk for making our 10 year wedding anniversary stay memorable!!!

Google
The positives, this hotel is in a great location, plenty to do within walking distance. The building is beautiful, with early 1900's charm. The lobby is exquisite. Our room was clean. The parking was easy to access. The not so positive, the rooms themselves were disappointing. They felt old and outdated, the don't have refrigerators and microwaves, you can request them but they have a limited amount on a first come first serve basis. The walls are super thin and you will hear other guests next door or in the hallway. The rooms are small so if you get two beds you are getting two full size not two queen. The mattresses were not comfortable and felt worn out, imo they are old and need to be replaced. I would stay here again mostly for the location but I would adjust my expectations of a property carrying the Hilton flag.

Yelp
We had a very nice stay here at the Hilton President hotel. We arrived about 30 minutes prior to check in, but using our Hilton honors app, messaged the front desk and Rachel was able to get us checked into a clean room. We used our keyless entry to access the parking garage ( plenty of spaces, not scary) and then for entry into the hotel. Our room had the clean seal on it and the room was very clean and roomy-surprising in an older hotel. We appreciated the room darkening shades; the shower was good. Recommend bringing ear plugs as we heard quite a bit of outdoor noises (people screaming, singing, yelling, motorcycles cars, etc) which was not surprising due to the location in the power and light district. Loved the old hotel vibe with jazzy music playing, old photos, the baby grand piano in the lobby. When my hubby went to the garage to retrieve something from the car, the security people were walking through, which was definitely reassuring that our vehicle was safe. No valet parking service currently available and the cost for parking didn't thrill me but it was worth it. Would definitely come back or recommend to others.

Yelp
This was the first Hilton I have ever stayed at and maybe I had higher expectations based on brand name. Parking? No signs, no directions on app I could find. When I did find it is behind and off to the side of hotel down an alley. No real directions on how to get to hotel. Found my way out back they way I drove in and found a back door I was able to use my digital key to get in hotel. Room. Good size corner room, nice layout with three windows. But that is where the nice ends. Ice bin was still wet with water or something. Closet has some building support beam in middle of it making most of it worthless. Office chair is worn out and very uncomfortable. No note pad or things to do in room. Bed most uncomfortable. It is an old spring mattress. Tag on bed date of manufacture is 1/8/2017. Again not at all what I expected from a Hilton at $250+ a night plus $30 for parking. Sheets look clean. Bathroom. Toilet runs. Floor is sticky. Towels are like sandpaper. Toilet seat is loose. Has a nice lighted mirror. Breakfast 7a-11 Fitness room is small for this size hotel, but has nice equipment.

Brandee H.

Yelp
Stayed on a short business trip. I was disappointed with the issues in the room. Toilet wouldn't flush. I called twice and received service once. I asked if I was able to change rooms and was told that there were no rooms available. To my surprise. The Heat was intermittent. At times the vent blew cool air went set to 78. Quick tip: No microwave or refrigerator in room. Beautiful hotel

Yelp
Two stars at best. The beds are awful, road noise was constant, toilet was constantly running, room wasn't clean, the water getting shut off was special

Yelp
We came here on a whim. When we checked in it was very hard to hear the clerk. The hotel runs about $299 per night and parking is $25 in addition. Breakfast is not included. Breakfast is a buffet style in the Walnut Room at $15 per plate. There was a wedding going on we arrived. It was very loud. The wedding guests were all over the hotel being loud. Wedding guests were running up and down the hallways, so we got very little sleep. When we woke up there were beer cans all over the hotel. The room itself was large. It was boiling hot so we turned the A/C to the lowest which was 68 degrees. We came and check periodically and it took about two hours to cool down. The sheets were also not very clean. I'm not sure what it was on the sheets (photo is attached) We did advise Cherish, the front desk, she stated she would get us a a new room and have the manager follow up with us as well. This never happened and we fell asleep while waiting. Even so I feel like due to the wedding going on they were unstaffed and extremely busy. I'm sure other guests were complaining as well, only because I met other guests during breakfast who also said they had the same issues. The hotel itself is nice and in a great location. They offer a restaurant inside, a bar and Starbucks.

Yelp
Clean, organized and popular. Staff is friendly and easy to work with. They will make you happy. Only downside is the parking situation, it's in a garage not connected to the hotel and spots are hard to find. They do have an overflow garage which is another block away.
google avatar

Amy A.

Yelp
Unique historical hotel in downtown KCMO. Room was well appointed and bed reasonably comfortable. Excessive noise from outside. Parking garage nearby which is overpriced for area. Starbucks in lobby with unfriendly staff. In a good location for downtown access. Dated lobby and poor breakfast / food choices onsite.

Yelp
Three starts is just about right for this hotel... maybe more like 2.3... but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt this go around. It's an old historic hotel with lots of charm, but below Hilton standards (it was better pre-Covid), but everything has gone to hell. It's somewhat clean, but the check in process is pathetic and painful. Call a few days before and make sure that they honor your reservation (I booked a king and ended up in two twins.... Don't believe that they are doubles at all). Housekeeping is non existent, and the breakfast is no even close to Hilton standards. Okay. I changed my review to 2 stars.

Yelp
Great hotel - the drum room bar and restaurant... amazing. This hotel is in the best centralized spot. It's one block from just about anything including PNL. The staff is extremely helpful and the hotel is secured.. I felt very safe. Beautiful historic hotel that I recommend anyone staying at!

Yelp
The servers for the restaurants here are absolutely awful. they will hide from you so they don't have to seat you, and act extremely disrespectful towards you. they make sly remarks and make it clear "you are putting them out of their way when u ask for a simple lemon". the breakfast was suppose to be $15 and they're charging us an extra service charge because we came with a group. that's just ridiculous considering it was a below mediocre breakfast. acted like we were putting them out because we had to ask for separate checks and they tried making us all pay together. also very rude when greeting us. they tried charging me $40 for my bagle and potatoes. I would highly recommend eating at a nearby restaurant and not at this hotel. the water also taste like dog water.

Missy V.

Yelp
This hotel has so much potential but just fell short with its "cleanliness"; which is why I am giving this a 1-star. First and foremost the hotel staff is absolutely wonderful and extremely pleasant. They represent what Hilton stands for and it's too bad the interior didn't pose the same qualities. Located in the heart of a lot of entertainment near the Plaza didn't bother me but keep in mind it's loud, next to a freeway with never ending burnouts and police sirens. I didn't eat in the restaurant but others I knew did and they were impressed. There is no fridge or microwave but if you request a fridge, staff is more than happy to accommodate and bring you one. Now the hotel room, carpet needs a good cleaning but the bathroom and linen sheets/cover was absolutely dirty. Bathroom had bare minimum cleaning with built up dirt and all the nastiness that comes with not a good cleaning. The bed... lucky for me I don't use the covers and unfortunately, dried up blood was on the comforter which was on the sheets that I was using. I 100% give credit to the manager as she was lovely and took immediate action. Obviously not her fault, and being so young just not knowing what to do other than bringing in a crew to address the situation. With this being said, Hilton please raise you standards of the hotel as lucky for you the staff is AMAZING and just need the tools to be successful.

Yelp
I'm a Hilton guy, love them and always choose a Hilton property if possible. I always choose a place with a restaurant when possible since I'm usually traveling for work and often prefer not to go far for dinner. I was surprised to learn the restaurant was closed, not sure if covid related or what but was first disappointment of the stay. Hilton now gives you a credit for food instead of free breakfast, ok, but when they don't have anyplace to eat on property, it's really for nothing. There was a Starbucks so at least I could get a morning coffee but options for food was slim. Rooms were really nice, very clean and spacious. Hotel was nearly empty so was nice and quiet. Gym was nice, dumbbells and treadmills, more than enough to get a good work out in. Front desk was really nice and answered all my questions and requests quickly

Yelp
I heard that Derek the manager has just made the list of Jericho. How do you not hold a reservation? The purpose of a reservation is to hold onto a room. This is a hotel. Derek works at their desk. How do you fail at your basic job jobber? As a traveler, this is unwelcome news. Plus he threatened the man who made the reservation? And Demeaned him? This hotel or shall I say, Ho-HELL isn't living up to the standards of the KC Chiefs and their belief of "Running it Back" they be ruining it Forward. Hsssssss Hssssssss Hssssssss - 3 cat hisses - this is not a pleasant noise from me. Fix Yo Shit Playas

Yelp
First off...parking in this location is terrible. TERRIBLE. I don't say this particularly as a reflection on the Hilton (although the lady in line behind me at check in was losing her mind because the Hilton parking garage was full and she'd been sent across the street complimentary but they denied her access to parking because they couldn't read the date written by the hotel). Luckily we didn't have an issue when we were sent across the street. Parking is important only because if you're not familiar with this location you need to know before you stay that parking is going to be a challenge. After than, the rooms are nice and the staff is pleasant. We stayed in a Junior Suite and two things I would have expected from a Hilton property because I'm in them all the time: 1) a refrigerator. I have one in a Hampton but not in a junior suite at a Hilton. 2) USB plugs. Again, they are in a Hampton, but not a Jr Suite at Hilton. Otherwise, the rooms was very spacious and comfortable, with a beautiful view of the city and I love to sleep being able to see the city lights at night.

W N E.

Yelp
Nice hotel. Rooms are pretty standard. no fridge or microwave. Bar was nice and the staff was excellent. The restaurant has a limited menu but the dinner was good. The staff was excellent. I had to request a late checkout because we had a meeting that I was concerned would run over. The desk clerk was very accommodating and a ver good guy. The process the next day when the day clerk started calling me about my late checkout. interrupting my meeting. he was a complete jerk. I ended up excusing myself from our meeting and hoofing back to the hotel where I was made to wait 20 minutes before he could check me out. he was rude, surly and confrontational. This JA ruined my weekend. There are better hotels in the area. Date of stay April 6, 2024.

Yelp
Here's my take - 1. Located in the downtown KC lights district about 40 min from the KC airport. 2. Building structure old, outdated yet sorta charming from the outside. Inside lobby/ check in was impressive, little bar off to the side serving alcohol and small menu. Full restaurant behind bar was "closed" for the season. 3. Stayed in room 314 which was filthy, broken glass on the floor, bottom of the TV while on was broken, bathroom smelled like urine. Worst part though, on 1 side of the bed.. carpet heavily stained with something RED! Called front desk of course they were full so couldn't switch our room instead vacuumed the glass. Ugh 4. Prepare yourself for loud music all night, filthy rooms, & no food offerings. Wear 2 pairs of socks during your stay & then throw them away. 5. Overall HARD PASS - never again!

Yelp
When you pay $381 to be on the 13th floor of a downtown hotel and it DOESNT have a window, no window whatsoever and they do not disclose it? This place is not worth it.

Mike D.

Yelp
The hotel is a beautiful building in downtown. The lobby is attractive but the rooms are below average. The bathroom was dirty, the carpet and a sofa/loveseat had stains on them, and the toilet loudly leaked water all night. Cleaning seemed to be a challenge. Self-parking is unnecessarily expensive at $28/day given the parking garage is dirty and dark. Breakfast is served in the Walnut Room. The food is fairly bad. It is a "buffet" of pre-made, pre-packaged biscuits, prep-packaged scrambled eggs and potatoes right out of a bag. There was little fresh fruit and very few nutritious options. The food is worse than you would find at a low budget hotel along Route 66. Service is non-existent. It seems 1 employees handles the food service and dining room seating. You can stand at the door waiting for 10 minutes before they seat you in what is an empty dining room. 30 minutes after opening the doors, the lone employee was still setting up the buffet. Food was neither hot, nor fresh nor ready. The hotel is obviously in distress and lacking operating funds. Sadly, it is a poor representation of the Hilton enterprise. If management wants to attract guests, clean the rooms better and significantly improve the breakfast offerings.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel and great experience. The staff was pretty welcoming and the location is so awesome because everything worth exploring is within walking distance. Loved our stay!
google avatar

Sharon B.

Yelp
This hotel is covenantally located and you can walk to restaurants and entertainment. The hotel is beautiful and has a Starbucks which was the highlight. When we got our room, it was unlocked and clearly had not been finished cleaning. We went to the desk to get another room and that room was better but had not been cleaned properly. The bed was comfortable but it was hard to fall Asleep wondering what else had not been done. He had Lysol wipes and wiped down all the surfaces but I wouldn't stay there again and was thankful to leave the next morning. Definitely did not meet my expectations for a Hilton Hotel!
google avatar

Jaime B.

Yelp
This hotel is very pretty and mostly clean. The service and care for the rooms was questionable. I'm just going to lest the things during my 2 day stay. 1. It was clear that they didn't restock the room between stays. Missing towels and coffee cups. 2. The clothing iron was broken 3. The internet went down 4. Entire hotel lost power 5. No refrigerator in the room and no water except for on the bathroom. So, nothing terrible, just all of it made it annoying.

Martha H.

Yelp
This historic hotel was perfect for us as we saw a Broadway show, "Hades Town," at the theater just across the street, and by staying the night before the afternoon performance, we had free parking and could just leave our bags there until we came out of the play. It is a beautiful, old hotel, which has the remains of an architectural wonder, but has been remodeled to update the facility to the standards of today. Wonderful hostess at check-in who related much of the history to us when we asked her. This was a grande experience
google avatar

Francis F.

Yelp
Really disappointing. Presidential Hilton sounds impressive. It is not! No Valet parking, No Room Service, Housekeeping only every 4 days. Service more stripped down than the smallest Hampton Inn!
google avatar

Kalisha W.

Yelp
The most horrible hotel ever. Housekeeping staff didn't really change sheets. Rental car vandalized. The general manager stated my message was a lot to unpack. Nothing about what was going to be done. Then they overcharge me $700. The next time I'm in Kansas City it will not be at this hotel. All they have going for them is the nostalgic idea of being a hotel from centuries ago. They said it from the building and architecture are beautiful. But the stay. No. Hard bed, hard couch, open holes and doors in the bathroom, other people soap and here's left in the shower. Definitely not the standard that I'm used to with Hilton. That saddens me
google avatar

Thomas H.

Yelp
This is really one of my favorite Hilton's to stay. The hotel is just cool, no other way to describe it. You feel like when Walking though the front door you are walking into a different time period. The lobby is exceptional and just like nothing they make today. The entire property is kept really nice. The rooms have comfortable furniture and the beds are very comfortable. The Drum room is an old school speakeasy and immaculate. Try it for a drink if you are so inclined. The breakfast room is spacious and very comfortable to eat in. Staff has always been very nice and accommodating. Located centrally in the downtown Power and Light district.
google avatar

Kent M.

Yelp
This is a grand hotel of many days past. And it maintains this today as I checked in several hours ago. Upscale but not silly about that. I have an 11th floor room, as had requested a top or higher available. So...indoor plumbing and electricity here. Adequate for one night. All amenities preferred are here. Just right. I checked for nearby coffee latte shops and there is actually a Starbucks inside this hotel, but not listed in Yelp search. Maybe has changed names or ? But I had an excellent 6 shot Americano and honey. Honey was in a jug instead of small disgusting packets! Nice.
google avatar

Sheri S.

Yelp
Follow up to my earlier review--things went from bad to worse. The desk clerk was unable to find a room, had a meltdown crying as I stood waiting for another 20 minutes. The night manager arrived (another 20 minutes to wait for her) and just as I found myself another room in a nearby hotel, the night manager found me a room. It was almost 2 a.m. Eastern time. What made the entire ordeal even more unreal was the next day when I called the night manager (same one), I was told that I didn't know what the clerk was going through and I needed to be more understanding. That was followed up by a note from the GM saying I was rude and disrespectful. No resolution with Hilton Corporate (3 hrs on the phone with them). Dispute now with my credit card company. Oh and PS: The room was dirty with frayed towels.
google avatar

Yelp
I got married here last July. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous. The drum room has delicious drinks and great atmosphere. The bartenders there are always the same two men and they are great. The hotel rooms itself are beautiful. (Don't get the one with only a pull out couch). The banquet hall is gorgeous. It was a dream wedding. The only issue was the turnover emetic catering managers. I worked with three in the span of a year. Covid may have had something to do with this. But the third and final one was unprepared for our meeting when we came for our final walkthrough. It was a bit stressful but it all turned out well. The day of was great. We only had a few issues with our breakfast/mimosas but the reception itself was perfect. I would recommend.

Yelp
I stay here pretty frequently and I arrived under the weather - they allowed me to check in early and I mentioned I wasn't feeling all that well and Jennifer at the front desk was sooo amazing and had this sent up to my room!!! I love you Hilton President!!! It's the little details and the people that make this place so special
google avatar

Boon Y.

Yelp
I had a one night stay at Hilton President Kansas City during my recent customer visit at Kansas City. The hotel is centrally located at downtown, closes to lot of restaurants and shops, I can even walk to enjoy the world famous Kansas City bbq. The hotel and room was clean, room is spacious, bed is comfortable and I have a nice view as well. I haven't had chance to try the breakfast so no comment here. Staffs were awesome and helpful. Will definitely be my to go Hilton property when I visit Kansas City.

Johnny C.

Yelp
You staff needs some work. The little girl at the front desk needs an attitude check. Just because she doesn't like her job doesn't mean you can be disrespectful to the guests. Find another job. Also, you need a "manager on duty". This high end establishment needs some leadership instead of these kids left in charge run this hotel. P.S. it's football season, don't stop serving food at nine... you fools.. make the money - not shut it down bc your employees don't want to work. If I owned this hotel I would be embarrassed on how it's ran...
google avatar

Kim E.

Yelp
The only good thing was the room was big enough and the beds were comfortable. We stayed here four nights and every day we had to take a cold shower. Told the front desk but the snappy gal at the desk was hard to deal with. We are early risers and showered at around 7 every morning. If you showered later I heard there was warm water. The buffet they had in the morning had the exact same food all four days. There was a coffee shop that was open a few hours in the morning. They had no other food options after the morning buffet. I was expecting this hotel to be better and I was disappointed. If you enjoy cold showers this is your kind of hotel!
google avatar

Mark N.

Yelp
Not great. Public spaces are grimy, not enough parking in the garage, so even though you've paid for it there may not be room for you to park. Iron in the room but no ironing board? Needs an update, as it is a great historic building.

Yelp
The Hilton President & I had a bit of a rough start. My boss called to put my name on one of the two rooms she reserved, and the man she spoke with told her it was all ready to go. Well when I went to check in, my name wasn't on either room and I almost had to wait several hours for my boss to get to KC. Luckily one of the awesome women working the front desk realized I wasn't a crazy liar and just gave me the keys and let me go up. I was so thankful after a long day of travel! You can valet or self-park in the garage next door, and I highly recommend the garage. Much cheaper and still very easy. My room was on the smaller size but still had plenty of room, and I loved the bathroom as well. The bed was probably my favorite part of the room... it was hands down the best hotel bed I've ever slept in. I slept like a baby from night until morning! That rarely happens to me in hotels. A good night's rest = a very happy Aimee in the morning. I got room service a couple of times, and one word of warning if you're ordering an omelet... tell them to go light on the cheese! If you can, go down and enjoy the breakfast buffet in the area attached to the lobby. There's an awesome omelet bar, fresh fruit, pastries, yogurt, coffee, etc. Speaking of coffee, there's a Starbucks on the first floor which always comes in handy. The lobby also has a tiny (but very useful gift shop) where you can pick up medicine, toiletries, or anything else you need. Other pros: -Great workout room. Tons of cardio equipment, weights, and mats for stretching. Also towels and fresh apples! -The design and look of this hotel is somewhat magical... especially around Christmas. -It's very centrally located and is in the heart of Power & Light. Huge fan of this place, and I'm sure I'll be staying here again soon!

Yelp
Traveling as much as I do for work, I have been afforded the pleasure of enjoying a wide variety of hotels. I primarily stay in the Hilton brands, and this hotel lives that Hilton standard through and through. With the growing market in the boutique hotels by Hilton and its competitors, The President just gets it right in all aspects. The front entry, lobby and front desk are all capturing that old timer feel of sophistication and classic mid 20's feel. The lobby is just gorgeous, with an inviting wood column structured entry accompanied by a player piano. The front desk and concierge are world class with superb service. I have to note that I hold Hilton Diamond status, so that goes a long way to elevate the service quality, than the average hotel guest would experience. The rooms offer a great relaxing environment with to notch linens and pillows. There views are amazing in almost any room, besides the interior facing rooms. Try to get a room that faces the Power & Light district, it is beautiful sight at night (backside of hotel). The only downside is there are no fridges in the rooms. The restaurant and bar are both a must see while staying here. The food is on par to rival and of the local restaurants near by, Burt the bar can't be touched in terms of liquor selection and service. The bartenders Toni and Pam are high class all the way, in their drinks and conversation. You won't regret starting here, the accommodations are ones you will miss upon checkout for sure.

Yelp
This Hilton was quite charming. From the brick exterior to the Walnut Room, there was a good old-time classy feel to this particular hotel. Plus, it's centrally located in downtown where restaurants, coffee shops, a theater, the Music Hall, and an upscale market are just a short walk away. In fact, there is a Starbucks on the premises. There was an offer for bonus Hilton points with a Yelp check-in (very cool). A trainee helped us but wasn't sure how to apply the bonus. He took down the info and said he would work with his manager to do it. The staff was very friendly. The room was clean and spacious and the decor standard Hilton. The bed was comfortable but I wasn't crazy about the pillows. They give you a lot of them for sure, but I found them to be way too soft and the filling moved around too easily. Even though I slept on two stacked pillows, by morning my head was essentially on the bed while the the filling had all shifted to the sides of my face. One thing to note is that the parking structure is behind the hotel in a separate building, and you can get to it from Baltimore or 14th by car. You'll have to check in at the front desk before you can park there. The friendly attendant let us temporarily park in the alley while we did that because we didn't know beforehand. As a weird side note, I don't know if they use some sort of air freshener in the hallway leading to the parking structure, but the fragrance reminded me of cookies! Intrigued by the Walnut Room, I had breakfast there one morning (I'll review that separately). If something simpler is what you want, the coffee shop is on the other side of the lobby. Aside from the neighboring restaurants, Cosentino's Downtown Market is about a block away. They have a salad bar and deli counter. With the quality and convenience of this Hilton, I will definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Was able to check in early which was fantastic and a great location. However tried to call room service last night at 8 for a snack. Never answered the phone. Called the desk and the staff was very understanding and offered a breakfast coupon.

Yelp
The Hilton President is at tour within itself. The hotel has the charm of a historical building but it has a modern-ish feel. The doorman and the staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful throughout my stay. My biggest complaints were with the cleaning staff; they cleaned the room each night but never replaced the towels. It was so weird only because they took the used towels but never thought to replace them. I considered it a mishap the first day this happened, but after the reoccurrence the following nights, it made me question WHY?? It was a major inconvenience to walk in the room at 3 am and have to call the front desk to deliver fresh towels. Second, it is important to note that in order to enter the room, you must pull the handle up. This is not a natural movement for me and was a major nuisance when you have to use the bathroom and can't figure out how to get in your room. You will thank me later when you realize what I am talking about. As for a recommendation, I would strongly suggest that they update their doors to utilize the keyless entry that Hilton advertises. The rooms were comfortable and came equipped with the normal; hair dryer, iron/board, and safe for holding personal items. The breakfast buffet was plentiful and everything was tasty. There is an even an omelet station. As for location, this was a great spot in reference to the Kansas City Convention Center. It is a block away which makes it an easy walk.

Yelp
Walking distance to the convention center as well as great restaurants in the downtown area. My room was spotless when I had come in. Check in and checkout was easy. Will stay here again for the next convention.

Yelp
Spent two nights here for the NY Jets fiasco against the KC Chiefs. My previous review stands. This is a review of the room service food. Horrible. Ordered a plate of wings and a plate of fried calamari. Disgustingly bad. Had a couple of each and placed the tray in the hallway.

Yelp
Very pricy but you get what you pay for. Room was immaculate as well as shower and bathroom. In the morning we ate breakfast in the hotel ball room. They had a buffet as well as items you can order off a menu. Everything we had was very good. Would stay here again and recommend anyone to stay here.

Yelp
Stayed here over the super bowl weekend , absolute horrible experience ! Starting from where I was told my room would be ready by 3pm , was not ready till 4:30 PM which I waited in the lobby till. As I got into my room which was extremely small for the 500$ one night stay very bad last minute decision I came upon to take a shower too notice the shower doors were stuck open & would not close unless I used strong force possibly breaking the glass ! So I showed with an open door. Next ! The heater would not turn off in the room , so I opened the window a little bit for it too fall OFF THE RAILS AND SMASH MY FINGER TIPS CAUSING THEM TO BLEED ! Mind this was 4am in the morning & I could not get the heater to go off I waited till 8am to go down stairs & show them what had been going on & my injuries they showed no care what so ever ! Johanne was extremely rude . I had them send an engineer to my room to check out all the problems , the gentlemen himself said this was extremely unacceptable & too contact Hilton corporation office which I have. I am STILL waiting to hear back from somebody . My finger tip injuries lead me to having to check into the hospital . I DO NOT know how anyone could consider this place anymore then a 2* hotel ! From absolutely horrible customer service to everything falling apart in the room ! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE ! There are many other places to stay in Kansas City that are a true 4 star Plus hotel . PLEASE DO NOT GO THROUGH WHAT IVE EXPERIENCED .

Yelp
Lovely property, lousy service. We checked into this hotel as a family reunion and booked 3 rooms. The building is historic and beautiful. But problems began immediately at check in. There was only one person working the front desk, which delayed our ability to check in by 45 minutes. The rooms are clean and spacious, but the internet is impossibly slow. The shower in one room would not drain properly, causing me to stand in ankle deep water. When we attempted to call the front desk to inquire about the WiFi being nonfunctional, nobody answered the phone. When I went to the front desk to ask about the WiFi and the fact that nobody would answer the phone, the clerk told me she was alone and inundated with calls. Not her fault. This hotel is vastly understaffed yet they charge a premium room rate with poor service. Despite being a regular Hilton guest, I won't be back. Avoid this hotel.

Yelp
Very aesthetically pleasing hotel. Gorgeous decor and interior design. But that's as far as it goes for me. I came here for a wedding and the wedding was beautiful! The amount you pay for a room is just at $200 dollars a night. While that's all fine and good I expect a little more amenities at such price. The rooms have no refrigerators and the hotel it's self lacks a pool and a spa. Basically the only "free" amenity is the fitness center. The rooms themselves were clean (but that should be a standard for any priced hotel) parking is $25 A DAY- on top of the $200 a night charge. There is room service but again extra money. Also just about every ice machine on every floor was broke. There are 13 floors and we could only find a working ice machine on floor 5. This is supposed to be a four star hotel with a four star experience. And while we paid for that- we didn't actually receive that. I could of paid $70 dollars a night somewhere else and gotten a refrigerator, pool, spa, free parking, and clean linens. Unless you want to pay $200 for a "pretty hotel" don't waste your time here.

Yelp
Wow! The customer service in sales here is amazing! Our team was in town for a volleyball tournament and there was tons of moving pieces (people needing extra rooms then canceled then more extra rooms needed) all handled seamlessly by Danica in sales. She went over and above to accommodate all our needs quickly and with such warmth. Hotel is gorgeous of course but our highlight was our experience working with Danica for sure!!!

Yelp
I lodged with the Hilton President, during a recent business trip for a total of seven days and six nights. The best thing about this hotel for me was its proximity to the KC convention center. The center was located only one block from the hotel. I really appreciated this because I was in attendance of a national conference being held at the convention center and I was able to quickly make it to the room and back as needed. As for the hotel itself, upon entering you will walk into a grand lobby with high ceilings and marble floors. From the outside, the hotel is a bit underwhelming and your not exactly sure what to expect when you arrive, but it is truly classical and elegant. If you have stayed at Hilton's before, you'll notice that this property is a little different from the rest and we were informed that it was only recently acquired by the company after a short transition period. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful throughout the entire stay. My employer booked the room and faxed over corresponding documentation prior to my stay. This made check-in simple, easy and (best of all) hassle free. Front desk staff happily answered all of our questions and made suggestions for dinner each night. Internet is free if you log on as a guest each day ( it was a little tricky at first because it appears to expire, but it let us log on each day for free). We parked Valet which is recommended and you can come and go as much as you leave for twenty dollars a day. The Valet staff were probably my favorite (all but the exception of one guy who had not been on schedule until midweek and candidly asked, "do you need help?" upon reentering the hotel - after which I explained to him that I was headed to my room, he was more than hospitable for the remainder of the stay). The hotel is an older building and the rooms are very small compared to standard size rooms in most hotels. As mentioned in several other reviews, I witnessed the loud knocking from the pipes. It went on for quite some time and we called the front desk who informed maintenance and they came to our room to fix the problem. Although it resolved the knocking one night, the next few days it resumed temporarily on and off. I could not really tell what caused the sound, but found it pointless to call the front desk for a second time. The room was spotless and each day the cleaning staff did a wonderful job keeping it tidy. Room service was delish, had a speedy delivery and was actually reasonably priced. The serving sizes were huge. We passed the Drum Room each night, but for some reason, I never felt compelled to stop in for a drink. The breakfast buffet is open during the mornings and the hotel will sell you a $10.00 voucher as opposed to the standard $15.00 at the front desk. The food there was also good. If you're superstitious beware! The hotel has 13 floors and the center elevator actually stops at the 13th floor. I found this a little strange (because I have never seen it in a hotel, most usually skip from 12th floor to 14th floor), but there must be some reasonable/historical explanation, right? Overall, I would say its a great hotel to stay in if you need to be in The Power & Light District for an event.

Yelp
We have stayed at this hotel before prior to our stay over the July 4th weekend, it took them 3 hours to let us in our room. One of the 2 managers at the desk was very condescending and said there were no other rooms available but when we finally got into our room it was a different room then the original one. While waiting to get into our room the same manager said to us if we would like to cancel our reservation, really? She did say she would cancel our parking fee but then when we got the bill we were charged for the parking. Not too sure how this woman got to be a manager with no customer service skills, its too bad we really liked this hotel. When we finally got into the room there was fresh blood in numerous places on the carpet and there were no garbage cans. We requested garbage cans from housekeeping but never got them. We felt very disrespected by the female manager, it was an awful experience.

Yelp
Stayed two nights in April 2022. Old and outdated rooms that weren't completely cleaned before we checked in. Poor service: rude parking attendant, understaffed front desk that was not helpful. Lots of noise from the street. Peeling wallpaper in the room, with a musty smell. Good location with an OK lobby, but otherwise extremely low quality compared to the price.

Yelp
Stayed here for a wedding. Slipped and fell in lobby cut my finger open on glass. No one from Hotel came to help we finally got front desk supervisor Alicia to put up a wet floor sign as there was glass and blood everywhere. Asked for a first aid kit and she stated they really don't have one. Asked to fill out incident form and she stated they don't use those and gave me a card to call someone. She never once asked if I was ok or needed medical help. We asked for the manager and she said she's the only one and he was off today. We asked her to call him and she refused. This was a horrible experience. Not sure how a Hilton hotel does not have a first aid kit, incident policy or a manager onsite on a Saturday afternoon with a large wedding taking place. Come on Hilton this is unacceptable!!
