For about a month or two I was not having the best of luck when it came to travel. It kind of hit a peak here. I was in town for a work thing and was being put up here. It was convenient, especially since I knew the area pretty well.
Being that I was out of town for work and being put up here, it was all taken care of on their end. This is where the mix up started. Upon check in I was only responsible for necessities. But the hotel wanted to charge me the whole amount for the room for my stay. There was a lot of back and forth between me, the staff, and who set up the room. Once that was figured out I thought I would be good.
Finally, with key in hand, I went up to my room. Now, I thought check in was a hassle, but what happened next just made it so much more of a hassle. I get off the elevator, make my way to the room, scan the keycard, and open the door to a surprise. Turns out I was just checked into a room that was already occupied. Once I opened the door I was greeted with a suitcase opened on the bed with all it's contents all over as well. I never met who the owner of the suitcase was...why...well, because they were in the shower, in the bathroom. So I just noped my way out of there and headed my way back down to the front desk.
Funny thing when I headed back down to the front desk, the staffer was not as amused as I was at that point. See, when I headed up to the room and after the initial check in fiasco we joked about the confusion and I had said if anything else would go wrong I would let him know. He said that he was done in ten minutes and it would be someone else's problem. Well, my amusement translated to his surprise. When I informed him why I was back down there, he did not believe me at first. I don't know the specifics about why this happened, but it could have been that someone had checked another person into what was to be my room.
To make things right, which I was not looking for, I was just looking to get to my room and drop my stuff off, they upgraded me. Now when you think about it, in DC that isn't much. I got upgraded to a room on a higher floor with a Capitol view. They also wanted to comp a meal or something while I was there (I did not use this, I hardly had time to have a meal in house or order room service). My Capitol view, was basically a view of the dome and all the rooftops of the nearby buildings and buildings looking towards the Capitol.
The room was bigger than what I was expecting. Decent sized and plenty of space to throw my stuff about. Tons of outlets to accommodate all my electronics I brought with me. The bathroom was even big, not like other hotels. The only thing that was smaller than normal was the closet. It also was hard to open, so I just put my suitcase behind the door since there was ample space.
The TV swiveled out and was able to be angled to wherever you were sitting in the room. I really enjoyed the headboard light, it gave the perfect amount of glow to make the room comfortable to fall asleep.
As for the rest of the experience, it was enjoyable. The staff were all really great to interact with. Some of my colleagues ran into some troubles. One that decided to park at the hotel, which was valet parking, had to park himself, but pay the valet rate. That doesn't seem right.
After check out, I was good. I reassured the front desk I didn't need anything comped and made my way out.
