I say this without hyperbole...this was the worst hotel room I have ever stayed in. When I walked into the room, it reeked of mildew and substantive portions of the carpet were wet. The room I reserved was supposed to be a king bed with refrigerator. Instead, I was given a double bed and had to request a refrigerator be brought to the room, then had to request a refrigerator be brought to the room again. When the maintenance person delivered it, I asked if all of the rooms were so humid and smelled like this one. His response was a chuckle and a simple "yeah". And if this was all that was wrong, I probably could have been OK. But here are the much more substantive issues:
- The wallpaper above the bed was peeling off. Other parts of the room had wallpaper starting to fall off the wall.
- There was a piece of glass on the floor of the bathroom that I found by stepping on it.
- The room was infested with ants. I am not exaggerating when I say that I killed at least 40 of them. After the first 10-15, I started piling up the dead ants just so they could see how bad it was. They were on the floor, on the desk, on the end table, on the desk, and in the bed.
- There was a broken outlet on the desk where the inner blades of the outlet were completely exposed. I actually found tape to cover it because if someone touched the exposed blades, it could have killed them.
- The refrigerator they brought to the room looked like it had been beaten with a baseball bat and was covered in a slimy film.
- The lamp shade appeared that it had been completely crushed, then put back onto the lamp itself.
- The light cover in the bathroom was filled with dead bugs. No idea how many were ants, but it certainly appeared as though there were several different types of dead carcuses that had been there for quite some time.
- The hallways had a lot of small pieces of broken glass in the carpet, in addition to more peeling wallpaper.
- The ceiling showed evidence of significant water damage and a very poor repair job.
I ended up leaving the hotel with a nasty sinus infection, a cut on the bottom of my foot, and a suitcase that reeked of mildew. So to say that I would never want to stay at this hotel again is an understatement. I travel 40+ weeks per year and have been a loyal Hilton brand user, but this was a completely awful four days that I would never want to repeat again.
