I can't believe I'd never been here before!! The food is so unbelievably good. It's a super warm and welcoming atmosphere, the furniture/decor are super cool, and the people there were very patient with us when we were trying to decide what to order. We ordered the chicken coconut curry with some naan, chicken thukpa, and kheer. I think we were lowkey obsessed with the thukpa, I'd recommend getting that for sure. Otherwise, seriously such a cool place and would totally recommend.

A Taste of the Himalayas in the Heart of Salt Lake City, hands down one of the best spots for authentic Nepalese and Indian cuisine in Salt Lake City. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with warm hospitality and the rich aroma of spices that instantly make your mouth water. The menu is packed with flavorful dishes, whether you’re in the mood for a creamy chicken tikka masala, a perfectly spiced lamb vindaloo, or the ever-popular momo dumplings—which are a must-try! Their naan is always fresh and fluffy, and the portions are generous, making it great for sharing or indulging in leftovers the next day. The service is exceptional, with friendly staff always happy to recommend dishes or adjust spice levels to your preference. Plus, the cozy ambiance and traditional décor add to the overall experience, making you feel like you’ve taken a quick trip to Nepal or India. If you’re in Salt Lake City and craving bold, authentic flavors, Himalayan Kitchen is a must-visit! Highly recommended for food lovers looking for something beyond the usual.

Had a great time at Himalayan Kitchen! The momos were delicious, naan was fresh, and the chicken tikka masala was creamy and packed with flavor. Super chill spot with friendly vibes, definitely worth a visit!

We went to this restaurant on Thanksgiving weekend to have a good time with family. We all were extremely disappointed with the service and food quality of the restaurant. Here are some bad experiences we observed: 1) Upon asking for simple things like extra plate, we had to wait for a long time and remind the staff to bring the same. 2) we ordered daal (lentil curry) which turned out to be uncooked. Upon returning it, they accepted to refund us. But at the end, after paying the bill, they still kept it on our table expecting us to eat the returned fish. 3) We ordered kulfi icecream and it was having fungus and very bad taste (refer to images). Although the staff refunded us the amount, we never heard a single apology from them.

Google
Some of the best Indian in SLC. The inside is always very quiet and we are always seated immediately. Pretty much everything on the menu is great. Having come back multiple times, I can say that the chicken in the curry is occasionally a bit dry and the naan is sometimes baked a little too long (that is also personal preference, I like my naan completely soft). The flavor is incredible every time though. I would highly recommend the lamb korma. Their mango lassi is amazing as is their cheese naan. The service has always been great. Our servers have always been there exactly when we need them. The servers’ English varies on who you have, but the owner is always there quickly. There was once a mixup on which side was ordered, and the owner apologized and very quickly brought out the original dish. Very polite and respectful man.

Google
Himalayan Kitchen has a nice relaxing atmosphere with great food. We started off with the bread basket and assorted meat platter. Both were really good and provided great samples of breads and meats. The included sauces were also amazing. For the entrees we had the prawn curry and butter chicken. Both of these had amazing flavor and would recommend. For desserts we had the pistachio ice cream and rice pudding. The ice cream was awesome but the rice pudding was a bit underwhelming but still decent. Overall this place was great with amazing food and fast service.

Google
Tasty Indian food with variety of options. I had the butter chicken rice combo and veg pakoda, both were delicious. Portion sizes are quite large too. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Google
Great food, fairly priced, good central location, comfortable space, and kind service. What more can I ask for? Lovely place for anything from a Monday lunch to family celebrations.

Yelp
I enjoyed my lunch at Himalayan kitchen. We were seated immediately and we ordered garlic naan, momos with bison and traditional Nepali goat curry (spicy). Everything was tasty and reasonably priced though it did take them a while (20-30 min) to bring us our food. I have a very high spice tolerance and I thought the spicy level goat curry was very nicely spiced. The decor and staff were nice. If you're looking for some tasty Indian/nepalese food in SLC, look no further.

Yelp
This place wasn't that good but it wasn't that bad either. I would go back if a friend really wanted to go but wouldn't be my first choice. I love Indian food and this place was kind of bland and lacking in spice. I got extra hot and it was barely mild. My husband got hotter than extra hot and his wasn't spicy either. Overall very ok.

Yelp
Stopped into SLC to grab dinner to-go on our road trip. So glad we stopped here. The food was amazing. We ordered 3 dishes and Nan bread. I apparently forgot to finish this review but it's been 2 years and I still think about this restaurant so that's a good sign. Would absolutely eat here again.

Yelp
Himalayan Kitchen is my go to Indian/Nepali restaurant. So many vegetarian options for my spouse and I can enjoy all the meaty goodness. We ordered the onion bhaji for appetizer and dal aloo ko soup. For the main dish, the wifey had the aloo bhindi and I had the goat curry as well has the Kathmandu tandoori. The goat curry was delicious, so tender. I have had tough goat at places but never here. I like the prawn best in the tandoori so probably will order that by itself next time. The aloo bhindi was tasty as usual. The only fail was the soup which did not have any lentils like the description. Would totally give it a 4.5 but this place is better than 4 star so decided to give it a boost. They also won Best Momo and Best Biryani on City Weekly for 2023. Highly recommend.

Yelp
After a week eating fairly bland food, Imwe were yearning for some tasty spicy Indian food and we definitely found it here at The Himalayan Kitchen. Located downtown Salt Lake City and very close to our hotel we ambled fish there with great anticipation. We were not disappointed. The dishes were perfect. We had some tasty pakoras to start with a nice cold Himalayan beer and the had Chicken Curry and Butter Chicken. Both dishes were so flavorful with just the right amount of spices. Our taste buds were restored. The staff were efficient knowledgeable and very helpful. The restaurant exudes Indian Himalayan flair especially with many local people eating there also. Always a great sign to see the diversity of customers. So glad we found this spot.

Yelp
Service is very friendly. The dining area is comfortable albeit a bit worn out. Lunch buffet was good, but not exceptional. I ate at Saffron Valley the other day for lunch and it was so much better.
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
Very authentic Nepali fare. Good service with refills and checkups. Low key ambiance, slightly on the bland side. But a great overall experience, will be returning.

Yelp
Alright the Yelp reviews do NOT LIE. the food is AMAZING. we ordered the veg pakora and the butter chicken. Both were amazing and the pakora was actually better once it had sat for a bit. The butter chicken was cooked perfectly and medium spice was flavorful but not too hot. Now the service. The service was sadly SO bad. We went on a Wednesday night - thinking it wouldn't be too busy. We waited about 20 minutes to have our order taken once we sat down, then we finished eating and asked for a to go box and the check. We waited for about 25 minutes for someone to come back and help us! We finally just walked up to the hostess at the front to pay because we had a movie to catch. Sadly because of the service I won't be back!

Yelp
Himalayan Kitchen is tucked away in a bit of a shady area, right next to a bar and on the corner of a dark alleyway. Surprisingly if you get past all of that, the place was great. The decor and ambiance felt minimal but welcoming. Much of what you might expect from a mom pop restaurant. What was really the seller was the food. It was exactly what I was hoping to get out of those Nepal/India area flavors. I wouldn't have known it was there if not for the amazing aroma it created in the street. The service staff seemed minimal but friendly and what was standard experience of assistance and service. I would recommend to anyone visiting the area for some quick but delicious naan bread and curry.

Yelp
Meh. Nothing was awful. Server was friendly. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing? Food was sub par at best.
google avatar

Eva C.

Yelp
I love love love the methi curry, with lamb. It is curry made with fenugreek leaves. I wasn't expecting to be able to find this dish in SLC but I got lucky and so impressed! I also ordered dal chicken from the Himalayan section. It was ok. Not spectacular like methi curry which I will definitely order again. Note that seating is comfortable but the service is a bit slow.

Bela L.

Yelp
Excellent food and friendly service. I especially like the tandoori chicken and coconut curry dishes.
google avatar

Cole D.

Yelp
The chicken korma was the best thing at medium heat! The lamb vindaloo was a different sweet flavor that I didn't love. But the Norma had big pieces of chicken and every bite had flavor. Relatively inexpensive. Really tasty. The naan was all good. We got garlic and plain and some with lamb cooked inside it and it tasted like a yummy bread omelette! Great kind service, escpecially as we took a long time to decide. Always filled up our waters.

Valerie N.

Yelp
This restaurant clearly changed ownership, recently. The food is now oily and poor quality. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. The chicken tikka is now a bowl of oil with sad lumps of old chicken. It was my favorite restaurant. I will never order from them, again.

Tondy ..

Yelp
Very good food with great service. The place has a lot of Indian and Nepalese decor, which enriches the dining experience. I ordered the huge sampler platter, which was delicious. I will definitely return here in the future.

Litra K.

Yelp
The Himalayan Kitchen came highly recommended. This was my first time at this restaurant however it will not be my last the food was amazing and the service was great as well .

Hope J.

Yelp
Had dinner for my birthday with my family, we ordered the chicken korma, chicken saag, and butter chicken... they were all so delicious! Not only was the food great but it was comfortable and cozy with a great atmosphere along with the costumer service! Which was amazing! My dad told them it was my birthday and the waiter immediately came back with a dessert! 10 out of 10 experience!

Yelp
We were blown away with how delicious the food was here! I was traveling with my boyfriend and his friends (the group was all Indians excluding me lol) and so we obviously had to eat some Indian food while traveling together. Someone picked out this restaurant for lunch and we were all very satisfied with both the food and the service!! Poonam's birthday was coming up and one of the guys bought a cake for her as a surprise and the server hit it in the fridge until we were ready for it. They later brought out extra plates, forks and a knife and even some candles when it was time to serve the cake. So nice!! As for the food... I didn't order it as we tend to order a bunch of different things and eat them family style so I'm not 100% what all I ate lol BUT I do remember eating saag paneer and paneer possibly paneer tikka masala? Wish I knew more but I will say that these guys tend to be very picky about Indian food and they all enjoyed everything thoroughly!!
google avatar

Reachel B.

Yelp
The service was great. It was clean and had good ambiance. Unfortunately the vegetarian coconut curry tasted exactly the same as their vegetarian paneer dish, and they both tasted like they were made with a base of canned cream of corn. The naan was very good.
google avatar

Dimple S.

Yelp
I love this place but the portions have gotten smaller and prices up. I was even wiling to spend an extra $5 for more shrimp protein in my favorite coconut curry but was told I would need to buy a whole extra entree for $20. The take out I got was only 4 large prawn that were actually butterflied in 1/2 to look like 8 pieces. The quality of food is great but majority of restaurants have the option of giving you extra protein. Super disappointing.

Tammy L.

Yelp
Impressed with their excellent service and food. I had the 14 peak chicken special, a great dish, great with both rice and naan. Veggie samosas are divine. Homemade mango icecream was to die for. Must visit again.

Tanya L.

Yelp
Got the butter chicken and the chicken vindaloo with a bread basket and I cannot remember the last time I had a meal I enjoyed this much. It was perfect!!! Restaurant is clean and the servers were so nice and quick!!
google avatar

Michael R.

Yelp
Food is excellent. Took a look at the menu, which was very comprehensive, but decided on their lunch buffet. It was to die for, and we'll definitely be going back. Parking was easy at the Exchange Place parking terrace, but there was no one there to accept the parking validation that the HK gave us. Bummer, wasted $4 and the restaurant probably has to pay for every sticker they give out. Also, service was friendly and the ambiance is fine for that kind of a restaurant. We particularly liked the fact that they played music, but softly enough that it didn't interfere with our conversation. I give them an A+. Michael

Yelp
I'm embarrassed to admit that it took me 26 years to try Indian food, but I'm SO glad that Himalayan Kitchen was where I first tried it (I say that as I sit here for my third time). Himalayan Kitchen is a beautiful restaurant with incredible photography from various places in India and lots of cultural statues & other decor. The restaurant is generally quiet and has a really intimate ambiance. Despite the fact that it's generally never packed, it's got a ton of seating & is extra spacious making it the perfect place for larger groups. I did what most Indian food newbies do, and ordered butter chicken. The butter chicken here is absolutely incredible- the flavor profile is amazing and always perfectly creamy. We've also tried lamb tikka masala and chicken korma both of which were also so flavorful and so unique in their flavor profile. In addition to the entrees we've also tried the traditional naan, assorted meat platter, lamb sekuwa, and cheese naan. Out of all of them we probably enjoyed the lamb sekuwa the most, but have continued to order the other ones as well when we stop by.

Yelp
We decided to give Himalayan Kitchen another go as we were in downtown and kiddo wanted mango lassi for lunch. We were seated right away. The service was good. Kiddo was hungry and cranky so the server said she will get her the mango lassi first before taking the rest of the order which was very thoughtful. We ordered the veggie platter which came with onion pakora, veg pakora and 1 samosa. This was ok. I would give 3.5 stars. The batter on onion pakora lacked flavor. We ordered malai kofta and cheese naan which was 4 stars. The malai kofta sauce was creamy and flavorful and koftas were soft. The cheese naan was ok. They got the cheese naan out first before the the kofta so it got cold. The entree came with rice. We also ordered chow chow noodles. We had asked it to be mild so the kid can eat some, but it was by no means mild. It was good flavors and we def enjoyed it but the kiddo found it spicy. She was ok with cheese naan and mango lassi. Mango lassi was good too. Overall not a bad choice for nepalese/indian place in downtown slc.
google avatar

Patrick B.

Yelp
Awful experience through and through. The buffet has incredibly limited and stale options for too much $$$. Not even samosas like wtf? I tried asking the waiter if my favorite dish, chicken tikka masala would be available at the buffet to which he insisted on trying to say butter chicken is the same. If you are an Indian restaurant you should absolutely know the difference between these. No attempt to sell me on it, just go to the slop trough and enjoy the blandest Indian food in the valley. My opinion, go to Aroma Fine Indian Cuisine as it is much better quality and worth its price.
google avatar

Yin Yin H.

Yelp
I came here two times with friend for the lunch buffet . All the foods are super good ! Servers are all nice and caring :)
google avatar

Janeen D.

Yelp
Himalayan Kitchen is downtown near where the old Salt Lake Stock Exchange used to be. I ordered the Himalayan lunch special with butter chicken. It comes with vegetable pakora and veggie coconut curry, naan, and some basmati rice. The inside of this restaurant looks very nice, calming, and very peaceful. This lunch special had a lot of food, so I was able to eat for two lunches! Everything was really good, and the manager/owner who rang me up was also very kind. The food was more on the mild side, and while I like a little more spice, this is definitely an awesome restaurant if you are craving Indian or Nepali food downtown. I can't wait to come back and try more of their menu offerings.
google avatar

Seetha G.

Yelp
Towards the end of a long vacation, our entire group was craving some good Nepali food. The food was excellent... the entrees that we requested as mild for kids were not too spicy and yet very flavorful. And the entrees we ordered for the adults was deliciously spicy, all of us spice lovers thoroughly enjoyed each and every dish. Absolutely loved the Aloo Papri, Goat Curry and Kathmandu Tandoori Platter. We were a large group and while traveling towards SLC when we called in our order as a take out. Surya and Dev were especially helpful. Highly recommend to anyone visiting SLC!
google avatar

Scott S.

Yelp
Food was good. Service was okay - not great. Parking was nearly impossible. The place was full and VERY loud. 'Was hard to hear my table mates conversation. If I go back again I'd go at an off hour when it was not likely to be full.
google avatar

Aakrati K.

Yelp
Very flavorful food. Enjoyed all the veggies- Chana masala, dal, aloo gobhi, malai kofta, aloo tama bodhi. Naan was fresh and light, aloo paratha was tandoori style and really yummy. Must visit if you are craving Indian or Nepalese food!
google avatar

Sam M.

Yelp
Average food, below average customer service - good decor is great. Warm food , not so clean plates

Lucrecia H.

Yelp
Food 5.0! Ambiance 5.0! Service: 1.0! The servers / hosts seem to be the owner's kids or relatives because they were simply not workings. They won't pay attention to customers and instead just chat in the little corner. Gordon Ramsay would destroy this staff. Funny enough, there is this older man who seems to be the boss. Whenever he was on the floor, the kids would suddenly move around. HOWEVER there is this older lady Marisha, I think is her name, who is fantastic and while I think she is only bussing tables, she is on top of things. She noticed our food was taking too long, and followed up with the kitchen. She is awesome.
google avatar

Taner E.

Yelp
Flavors were super good but serving sizes were pretty bad. Order of garlic nann was one tiny piece and tikka masala only had like 4 pieces of chicken in it. Also didn't come with any type of rice. Im actually still hungry tbh so probably gunna hit McDonald's real fast. I'm also a foodie so I know what I'm talking about.
google avatar

Zuri C.

Yelp
Ordered takeout of the garlic naan, lamb vindaloo, chicken masala, and the gulab jamun for dessert. Food is tasty but somewhat overpriced for their small portions. Also when paying for the pickup order with cash the employee didn't even offer my change and assumed I was leaving it.

Kassidy Veda J.

Yelp
This food is so delicious and the service is amazing I love this place with my whole heart
google avatar

Bipul S.

Yelp
Really wonderful experience, please do try their mo:mo and the Nepali Thalis. I am not sure about other Indian dishes they serve but from what I tried, I am pretty confident they are good when it comes to Indian Cuisine as-well.
google avatar

Polina K.

Yelp
I've loved this place for years! It continues to deliver delicious food. Butter chicken, lamb tikka masala, and samosas are fantastic.

B W.

Yelp
The food, service and atmosphere is okay. The location is not the best, there is so many homeless people outside their door entrance. I wouldn't go there once the sun goes down.

Jessica L.

Yelp
We were so happy to have found this gem during our vacation to DT SLC. It happened to be the first restaurant we visited, and we enjoyed the food and the ambiance so much that we went back on the final day of the trip to make it the last restaurant we visited as well. My favorite part was the fact that so many of the meals were gluten free by default (e.g., made with chickpea flour instead of wheat flour,) and I was able to eat my fill without worrying about negative consequences. And I definitely ate my fill! My favorite entrees were the chicken tikka masala and the butter chicken, but the mushroom chicken was also amazing. Be warned - even their "mild" spices were pretty spicy in the meals that didn't also use some type of cream (e.g., the "mild" mushroom chicken was far more spicy than the "mild" chicken tikka masala). Both were tasty, and the chicken thigh meat of the mushroom chicken was even more juicy than the chicken breast meat of the chicken tikka masala - but if you aren't a fan of spicy food, it might take you by surprise lol I highly recommend giving this place a try if you are in the downtown SLC area. Also, they validate parking in the closest parking structure, which is a win, when you remember that most downtowns are hellish to park in and figure out what to pay/how to pay.

Yelp
Wow....it looks like the hunt for a really good Indian restaurant is still on in Salt Lake City. The place barely makes the grade, even tho I only tried the buffet. The butter chicken was TASTELESS. Luckily the chicken vindaloo saved the day for some flavor. The naan was stacked in a dish until cold, kind of rubbery . Finally tried the rice pudding. Just dreadful. I've been eating this cuisine for over 40 years, I suggest you skip this place. I should of passed when it's described as Indian/Himalayan.
google avatar

Traci S.

Yelp
This restaurant is delicious. The service is awesome. Every dish is great and they will make each dish to your spicy needs. Highly recommend it.
google avatar

Kara M.

Yelp
Wonderful food, kind and caring service. Felt like I was welcome the entire time. The Mango Lassi, best I've ever had!
google avatar

Elisa N.

Yelp
From the Bay Area, I have been to my share of Indian restaurants and I have to say I think this was the best ever! The sag paneer was not oily like you find in many other places, very flavorful and fresh. We also got lamb tikka masala and again the best I have ever had- this restaurant doesn't overdo the cream and oil. The sauce had a complex and layered flavor- perhaps using cashews not sure. We also got the Kathmandu tandoori and everything in it was delicious! The shrimp was tender and tasty and the beef had lots of flavor too. The strawberry lassi was not too sweet and my daughter loved it. There was lots of seating and the restaurant was very accommodating with reservations. Highly recommend this restaurant.
google avatar

Joshlyne C.

Yelp
Still a must go to place. I'm so happy they survived the pandemic and lockdown ect. I heard rumors for awhile they where shutting down and i am sooooo happy to see they didn't. The staff is always A+ and the food is awesome.

Michelle G.

Yelp
Unfortunately, not everyone is welcome to eat at this restaurant. I suggested the Himalayan to my son. He was turned away from the restaurant during lunch. The host said they needed a reservation. My son stated there was no such rule as we had eaten there before without a reservation. He was turned away humiliated. I called to confirm the need for a reservation, and the host, "Z" said no reservation needed. When I asked why he turned my son away, he hung up on me. On a second call back, he refused to talk to me. I am appalled that they behaved this way.

Yelp
5-Star Indian in Salt Lake City. The food is fantastic...all of it! The Chili Chicken was one of our favs of the night. The service is top notch and the place is impeccably clean and the price is very reasonable.

Yelp
I am in no way an expert on Nepalize cuisine, but what I do know is about great tasting food, hospital service, and a wonderful experience. We came here after a long day of skiing and were delighted by how friendly the staff were and how delicious everything was. The owner showed off his recent decorations in the back of the restaurant on his trip to Nepal and it really showed how proud and committed he was to his Native cuisine. It really shows in the taste of the dishes. The Naan was magnificent andthe Methi curry very impressive. We got the sampler platter and it did not disappoint! I will definitely be back!!!

Samantha L.

Yelp
I'm in SLC for work annually and this year I tried this place-- unbelievably good. I like some spice, but at a new place it's always a tossup if I'll estimate it correctly. Medium was good! Flavorful and fresh. I got the Saag and momos-- perfection. Next time I'm in town i'm definitely headed here, several times if possible. looking forward to trying the saag made with mustard greens! Fantastic service too!
