Himalayas Indian Restaurant City Centre Christchurch

We had dinner at Himalayas. We ordered all the recommended options which were unique and chef special, we were not disappointed. It was amazing. The taste was so so unique. We ordered Himalaya chef special cheese chicken tikka , himalaya special prawn curry( comes with rice),peshwari naan(comes with 4 pieces). Everything was so tasty. The ambience was average, like any other restaurant. The person who waited our table was so friendly and took great care of us. Best thing about the restaurant is the variety and unique food options it offers.

My family loves Indian cuisine and we've tried dozens of Indian restaurants in Christchurch. I have to say Himalayas is the best so far. The food is full of flavors. The four curry dishes we ordered each had its own character and we couldn't decide which one is better, they're all scrumptious! They have many choices of naan bread and all fluffy and absolutely mouth-watering! Himalayas is absolutely the real deal!!

I was in Christchurch for a work meeting from Auckland, and by the third day, I was really craving some good Indian food — and Himalayan Restaurant absolutely delivered! The food was amazing, full of authentic flavour, and I honestly can’t fault a thing. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Definitely coming back next time I’m in town!

What made the experience even better was the service. Our front of house person, sorry didn’t get his name was attentive, welcoming, and genuinely passionate about the food he served us. He made us feel right at home and ensured everything ran smoothly from start to finish. If you’re looking for a place that delivers both exceptional cuisine and heartfelt hospitality, this is it. Highly recommended!

Visited Himalayas after on a quiet Monday evening after seeing the great reviews on google; I was the only person in the restaurant so the service was top notch. The food; i ordered the butter chicken, which was the best butter chicken I've had in a long time (to me tasted like what Butter chicken should taste like), peshwari naan was delicious. Also tried the kashmiri pulao, which I've never seen before, but was great and complimented the flavour of the curry wonderfully. Would highly recommend!

One of the best, flavourful curries we have had in a long time and the lamb was melt in the mouth. Sharing platter was great but make sure you are hungry :). Staff were lovely and being able to bring your own wine was an added bonus. Strong recommendation!

We were only in Christchurch for 5 nights and ate here twice. The second time as a last minute group of 14, which the staff handled very well. The menu is large but the dishes maintain their authenticity, the food is top quality and the best we’ve eaten in a long time. The service was very good, efficient and friendly with good attention to detail. All 14 of us highly recommend.

Easily one of the BEST Indian food that we have ever had in Australia/Newzealand. Very authentic and very flavourful. And to top it all, great people and a very welcoming atmosphere. Great experience.

This Indian restaurant was a lovely dining experience. You could tell it was a family business and they took pride in their product. The service was great, very attentive and checked in with us during our dining. We had the chickpea vegetarian recommended dish, saag prawns, garlic naan and spicy pickles. One let down was I found the dishes not spicy enough even tho we asked for medium and I would have like more intensity in the flavour. I gave a 4 because of the whole experience and not just the meal.

Everything was so delicious. I've never had better Indian food. The lamb roganjash was so tender and perfectly season. The chicken tikka masala was super juicy and had the perfect hint of smokiness.

I had fairly high expectations of this place after a recommendation from a friend. Unfortunately I left the place disappointed. Ordered Chicken bhuna and lamb rogan josh. Both came served with basmati rice. Taste for both were average, nothing to really write home about. Portions were on the small side, suitable for light mid eaters. The mango lassi tasted of syrup rather than mangoes. Could definitely do better. Overall there are better ones around for the price.
