The Hippocrates Tree is a lovely spot to visit in Kos Town. It offers a nice bit of nature and a chance to learn some of the history behind Hippocrates and his connection to the island. Overall, it also gives you a nice overview of the bay area, making it a pleasant stop while exploring the town.

You can enter right from street by the government building by the ocean, with a busstop nearby. It is also close to the old castle and the harbour. There is not much to see but with anything else, it is still always good to witness some history in some form.

It is true that there isn't much here other than a derelict tree that at one time saw the beginnings of the field of medicine. We supply the backstory ourselves, using imagination and this simple, humble setting becomes the most amazing place! It's free to visit and hugely consequential in world history. Visit!!

Well...the scaffolding ruins the surroundings and tree itself. It's a shame. A must visit of course, but once in a lifetime thing.

To be honest it's a tree. A very old tree. Held up with scaffolding. However it is a quiet shady spot and how could you visit Kos and not go and see it given the world wide medical culture that arose on this spot (allegedly).

It's not the best best sightseeing experience we've had. The tree is not actually the tree that Hippocrates taught his students as it is only around 500 years old. Although it is thought to be a descendant of the original tree.

If you're visiting Kos and have even the slightest interest in history, the Tree of Hippocrates is an essential stop on your journey. According to tradition, this is the very place where Hippocrates – the "Father of Medicine" – taught his students and spent his time reflecting under the shade of a great plane tree. Though the current tree is not the original (it's estimated to be several hundred years old), its symbolic value is deeply rooted in the history of Western medicine. The site carries a serene atmosphere, nestled within the heart of Kos Town, and offers a tangible connection to the island’s rich past. Surrounded by ancient ruins and close to other landmarks, it's a perfect spot to take a moment, appreciate the legacy of Hippocrates, and imagine what life might have been like in classical times. Whether you're a history lover or a casual tourist, this historical landmark is well worth a visit.

Must come to visit, even if it may seem as just a tree, it’s a huge part of history for humanity and the beginnings of modern medicine! Walk with the ancients and you stand by and admire.
