"The first thing you see when you step through the entrance of Onogi, a contemporary small plates spot in Hiroo, is an uprooted tree suspended by fishing wire like a giant piece of ikebana. Those beguiling naked branches encapsulate chef Shigeki Onogi’s product-driven style of cooking, which strikes the perfect balance between creative and comforting. The intimate, open-kitchen space makes you feel right at home." - Melinda Joe

I had an unforgettable evening with the CEO and President of the Japanese company, who graciously hosted me alongside my overseas counterpart. This special experience showcased their warmth and hospitality. The food was exceptional, featuring our second highest prized omakase menu with generous portions of meat and seafood. Paired with sake, we truly savored our time at this beautifully decorated restaurant. As we navigated business discussions, we enjoyed a table setting that offered a stunning view of the street. Next, I look forward to experiencing the counter seating. The taste of each dish was impeccable, with ingredients that were incredibly fresh, allowing us to relish the seasonal produce.

Great dining experience! Food was amazing, chef was funny and friendly, and reasonably priced too Chef spoke limited english (but more or less enough to converse here and there), but as with most restaurants out there, I could imagine the experience being even better when you speak japanese/has a speaker in your group Fig & tofu dish was soooo goood

Google
One of my favorite restaurants in Japan. Just order the “Omakase” course and sit back and be prepared to be delighted with the food over some great sake. A great place for bringing business friends or someone special

Relax but trendy atmosphere, super friendly chef and staffs. The food was unreal! We got the omakase and everything was so memorable! Our favorite Tokyo restaurant so far!

It’s a wooden door that goes upstairs, don’t go to the shop on the corner. It’s a self guided degustation of sorts, you choose about 2 from each column and you can order more. Every dish was great. High quality with a bit of a twist. Losing a star just because I didn’t find a huge surprise factor to the food. It was delicious and really well made but no surprise and it’s a bit of expensive side. That said I’d come back any day.

Honestly one of the best authentic Japanese restaurants you’ll find in Tokyo. Counter seating over table is a plus so you can watch/talk with the chef. Great atmosphere and amazingly fresh sea food. Expect to pay at least 10,000+ per person. Great for celebrations or impressing a client. 5/5 recommend.

The food is really solid, nice atmosphere. However the service is a little bit slow and hectic, seemed understaffed when we went. The biggest issue we had was the pricing. We ordered ala carte and the bill was much higher than we thought was fair for this type of restaurant.

Yelp
Hiroo Onogi has been one of my favorite meals in Japan so far! Chef Shigeki Onogi and his incredible team provide the most remarkable hospitality throughout the entire dining experience. The omakase was so well balanced between seafood and meat dishes. We savored every bite of this meal and I'll be having dreams about this night for a long time! The ambiance is so stunning with this breathtaking tree in the entry and natural wood furnishings. Counter seats were such a treat as we had front row views watching Chef and his team prepare everything. Beyond the outstanding cuisine and atmosphere, what resonated with me the most was the departure. Chef Shigeki Onogi and his team thank you for visiting and all take a bow as you leave. This is such a beautiful part of the Japanese culture and made this an unforgettable dinner.
