10 Best Museums in Copenhagen

"The Hirschsprung Collection is located in a Neoclassical building in Østre Anlæg park, part of the Parkmuseerne museum district. Comprised of the personal trove of artworks from tobacco manufacturer Heinrich Hirschsprung and his wife, the museum features Danish art from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Spanning the Danish Golden Age, Skagen painters, and the Symbolists, the museum, which opened in 1911, presents works from artists such as C.W. Eckersberg, Christen Købke, Theodor Philipsen, and Vilhelm Hammershøi." - Alia Akkam

A gem of a museum for Danish painting from the 1800s to early 1900s. Collection includes a large number of works by women artists of very high quality. It was wonderful to discover artists new to me, especially Berthe Wegmann!

The most beautiful small art gallery I've ever visited. Danish art is hidden gem. Highly recommended from me. Memory card game with art works makes me be there again and again.❣️

Visiting this museum last week was a real delight. The exhibition "At The Beach. Danish Art 1830-1910" was a revelation. You could almost smell and hear the sea and feel the sand under your feet and the sun on your face. But there are many other interesting and beautiful paintings. A window into Danish Art of that time. I regret not having visited this beautiful museum during my previous stays in Copenhagen and will definitely return next month.

Fantastic small museum of someone’s private collection. Right behind The National Museum.

Probably my favorite museum in Copenhagen. Small, hidden behind the huge SMK in a little street, it would be easy to miss but to do so will be a huge mistake. I stayed there for a good two hours, reading each cartel, observing the evolution of the representation of the Danish soldier in art, admiring the few paintings by Hammershoi (again and again). The sequence of small rooms gives an intimate side to the place, a feeling reinforced by the few visitors. The place is charming, peaceful and has a vintage sobriety which magnifies the works on display. That’s a huge yes.

This collection was excellent. Many works that are very powerful. Special exhibition of the work of Bertha Wegmann introduced me to a phenomenal artist I had never experienced.

Museum is not too big but worth visiting and it is well organised and curated.
