Great place that has served handmade soba since the 1930s. Highly recommend their soba noodles cold!

Famous Oyakodon place in Kyoto. Very delicate flavor and it’s good for anyone who likes eggs and rice. Very very Kyoto style restaurant. Expect to wait in line but it goes pretty fast as they serve pretty fast. Both noodle and rice dish was great. All the menu is around ¥800-1000 so very affordable too. Not great for big group but perfect for 2-4 people. Lots of solo diners too.

The first and only restaurant I come upon during my trip in Japan which serves hot green tea. They have their menu in English, Mandarin, Korean. Taste is ok, but I feel their soba is a bit soggy.

It appears to be a restaurant with some history because of its traditional interior layout and decoration. Table turnover was pretty quick but there were still queues all time so be prepared for 15-20 mins waiting time. We both ordered Oyako Don and it was very delicious. Inundated with soft-boiled egg, the rice soaked the marinated egg mixture and became boggy than usual but that was just the authentic bowl be like. A note to make is the portion of chicken as topping wasn’t large but we all know egg is the soul of this type of Don rice so its kind of within expectations

Waited around 30 minutes at lunchtime on a Saturday. The oyakodon was very pure tasting pretty much consisting of only egg and chicken. The tempura prawn came with 2 prawns which were fried but then softened by Dashi. All in all a decent meal although to be honest slightly underwhelming. Not sure it's worth the long line up.

Stumbled across this place during a rainy day. Amazing service and delicious food. Did not realise it was such a well known spot. The staff are fantastic and so friendly. English menu available and the waiter spoke good English and made small talk with us. Would recommend popping in. Quick service and fast table turnaround

We went there on a rainy day and there wasn’t any queue. But the area is crowded normally. Food was delicious. Service and atmosphere was so nice! I will definitely go there again:)

The location is easy to spot and get to. We came right at opening, so there ain’t too many people. Staff is quick and efficient. Food is good, and the taste of egg with rice is awesome. The signature Oyakudon is sufficient for a quick lunch, but you can order a soba to share if there are more of you. If there isn’t a queue, just make sure you announce your arrival, if not someone else may just unknowingly beat the queue (you).

Yelp
Food was tasty and inexpensive. Both the rice and green noodles with dipping sauce were excellent

Yelp
Very satisfying and flavorful dishes! My wife had Oyako Don, and I had Oyakonamba Udon. We shared them every couple of bites, which was amazing to the last spoon. An excellent spot for lunch or even dinner. Reasonable price as well. Great customer service.

Yelp
Hisago Restaurant Kyoto, Japan Kabuki actors frequent this tiny 8 table restaurant near the Kiyomizudera Temple. We arrived about 10 minutes before they opened and were the 15th group in line. Very busy, popular and well-known for their donburi dishes. ( Chicken and egg cooked with a soy based sauce over rice). They serve noodles and rice dishes here. Service is efficient and quick. When we left, more people were waiting outside to get in..... Best Oyako donburi ever for me. In Hawaii they add too much sweet via mirin to the soy-based dish. But here, they use white soy sauce and the taste is much lighter so you can really enjoy the fresh egg and light flavor. The flavor of the ingredients is not overwhelmed by the sauce. I can see why traditional stage actors enjoy coming here after a performance for a filling and delicious, but simple home style dish. Bicycle or taxi is the best way to get here. No parking.

Yelp
Original spot was closed, so we ran into this spot. Not a big fan of dark meat, so it wasn't really my liking. The service was weak for Japanese standards. Never got the water I asked for, even though the guy acknowledged what I was asking for. As for the food. It was just ok. With out a doubt, so not order the hot noodles with the egg and chicken. The rice version was OK.

Yelp
Popular spot if you're walking around this area. You'll see people sitting outside and waiting for their turn to go in. It'll take a good 15-20 minutes wait (could be longer too). Most of their tables seat 4 (maybe 6) people so you'd want to go with a smaller group. There's probably about 20-30 seats inside which is quite small. I got the Oyakodon and thought it was just okay.

Yelp
I ducked for cover from the rain and happened to place myself at the end of the line for this place to open. Luck was on our side as the place opened for business in 2 minutes. Although the line was long, they were surprisingly able to fit us all in. We made the mistake of not ordering the egg & chicken with rice and got udon & a thin noodle dish instead. Don't get me wrong, those noodle dishes were delicious! But when we noticed EVERY table getting the egg & chicken over rice, we had to add it onto our order as well and it was phenomenal. There were schoolkids and businessmen and tourists altogether there. Great food attracts all! It's cheap too!
