hiSbe - 'how it should be'. Excellent shop with a wonderful ethos. Everyday products thoughtfully sourced, easily and simply displayed. All your shopping in one place. Meat, fish, fruit/veg, wine, beer and much much more. Coffee, tea and delicious cakes. Easy access.

I really like this place a lot. I go here for specific things. They have excellent chocolate and inexpensive nutritional yeast, so I stock up with both. It's great that you can weigh out as much as you like of lots of staple items. Brown bags and no waste at excellent prices. Recommended.

Good shop but the manager was not paying the farmers and staff. I hope someone takes over it as it was a good shop with a good layout and some helpful staff. But I can understand why some were unhappy if they were not getting paid. Shame I didn’t go often because I lived in Hove. I hope someone else will take it over. All the fresh vegetables and fruits were organic or pesticides free and from local farmers. So I hope someone will take it on.

This store really works hard to be sustainable. The amount of bulk foods and products is impressive. By being able to shop like this, we have reduced our home waste stream dramatically. You can get everything you need here (produce to coffee/paper products). And they allow dogs which makes my life much easier. The staff patiently teaches customers how to use the scales and bulk systems. It’s just a great place.

I love hisbe food store! I go there almost every day because I only eat fresh, local, organic food. They have it all and more! Amazing customer service and quality coffee as well as the best kombucha in town 😊 Victoria

Google
Organic, plastic free produce, and all sorts of refills, cheaper than buying in packaging! Thank you that this place exists and I only hope more people move over to a more caring and conscious approach to their sustenance, it’s definitely affordable and makes you feel better too, and healthier. Main stream supermarkets take note.

I love Hisbe! The choice of refill produce is great, good availability and the prices for refill don’t seem to have gone up for years. ditch the plastic and come here - they’ve also got the most generous loyalty scheme around and you get stamps every time you bring your own refill jars. Fantastic shop that we depend on.

Google
Really wonderful shop. Nice staff and atmosphere. Really good range of refillable cereals, seeds, grains, cleaning products, etc - you can bring your own container or use a free paper bag. Very good if you want to reduce your plastic use and buy sustainable products. A good range of products for different budgets too. Plus it's an independent Brighton business!

Yelp
I had to add hiSbe to Yelp! because I am such a fan and I really hope other people discover this supermarket. Unlike other nearby cooperatives and health food stores, I feel hiSbe's ethical mission is different -- not just to offer foods that are good for people and produced ethically and sustainably, but also to offer them at a fair price! Their atmosphere is also totally different, like the board on which you can write product suggestions that you hope they'd consider carrying, or just little comments about what you loved in the store that day. I especially like how much they emphasize local produce -- I go there first before checking any other supermarkets to see if any of the ingredients I need for the day can be sourced locally. This also means they carry a lot of local brands of packaged goods (Sussex Gold for example) that can't be found in supermarkets. They also have fair trade bananas, and a sign explaining their choice which I found very informative. If you love buying bulk goods like I do, but don't want to support certain other stores in Brighton that have them but are politically contentious, hiSbe should be your go-to! They have bulk pastas and grains (including short grain brown rice), bulk oatmeal and museli base, bulk chocolate buttons, and bulk nuts available. Unfortunately no bulk seasonings and very few bulk legumes. They also have a coffee shop inside which has ethical coffee options and also a vegan chocolate beet cake that calls my name every day but I've managed to resist so far. Anyway, it's easily my favourite supermarket in Brighton and I want them to stick around for a long time, so I hope you'll give them a try!

Yelp
staff are amazing other shoppers are nice and friendly and EVeRYTHING is there! So much more space than infinity. No barging and bashing at all. Great pastries and they are super sweet to the local characters that habit that part of London road!

Yelp
It seems that the company does not follow their promises. I heard some rumours that team is not happy with current situation created by Directors. Some other people from community were unhappy because their products were discontinued without any explanation. I am not sure where their business is going, but it seems that Happiness and community before profit is not their goal.
