The Historic Mardi Gras Inn is not for everyone—but if you appreciate authenticity and character, it’s an experience worth having. Keep in mind that New Orleans is a city built on a swamp, and the inn reflects some of those realities: bugs may come up through the pipes, and at times there’s a lingering sewage smell. The property itself is not modernized, but that’s exactly where its charm lies. The colors, the architecture, and the neighborhood create a nostalgic sense of old-world living, as if you’ve been transported back to the 1800s. The location is ideal. The neighborhood has everything you could need—plenty of parking, quiet streets, and endless opportunities for photographers. It’s a welcoming, very LGBTQ-friendly community where we made friends instantly. Frenchmen Street is just a short walk away, alive with brass-band magic, artists, poets, and some of the best bars and restaurants you’ll find. And the food—absolutely unforgettable. The staff, especially Jasmine, were warm, attentive, and made us feel at home. Our neighbor Matteo was also a highlight of our stay. My only real critique: the sheets need an upgrade. There’s no excuse for stains in such a beautiful, historic setting. Overall, I loved my time here. The inn may not offer modern luxury, but it provides something far rarer—a sense of place, history, and belonging. We will return.

I booked this via booking.com which were not care of providing imprecise information about the place, to say the least. First, the rooms were very old, dirty , the sheets were dirty, with stains, and torn, with burn marks at some places. The room included NO WINDOW. There was only one chair, no hangers, no coffee machine. No space to store clothes or luggage and generally the place was smaller than any simple motel I visited in US so far. The overall experience was very different from booking.com description while still charged the outraging 171$ for a night, and of course nonrefundable. So while I was thinking I am going to a nice place, I actually fell into a trap.|I asked to change my sheets during the stay. The people who worked there answered that my room is "not in their cleaning section" so I should be looking for another cleaning person. Do not go there. For those who value a lot their accommodation quality - it will ruin your stay in NOLA.

Staying here was a real pleasure. The owner was the kindest and most helpful person ever. She had recommendations for so many great food places and sights to see, keeping it local and not touristy. The rooms were functional and clean and the courtyard is locked with a gate and pin code. Location is only 15 minute walk to the French Quarter or the jazz bars on Frenchman street and heaps of good food. Will 100% come back here next time I'm in New Orleans. Thanks Mama!

This place is awesome! I only stayed for one night on my way through New Orleans but I’ll definitely be back. Staff was super friendly and accommodating! Room was clean and A/C was cold. Location was good we walked to bourbon street. I wish there was breakfast but for the price didn’t expect it. Again big thanks to the Staff!

Really did stay in the room much to be honest. It’s was good . The places we wanting to go to was very close so we walked mostly. Parking was not a problem at all. Free ice machine and they had a vending machine there as well!

If a clean, air conditioned room is what you need then this place will please you fine. Nice courtyard to smoke and read in. Felt safe with the locked gate. Walkable to everything we needed and all the fun streets. Roku tv as well! Would stay again next time we visit.

DO NOT STAY HERE. THIS HOTEL OWES ME MONEY. If I could give this place -1 star I would. The hotel is dirty and unsafe. My door lock and toilet did not work. They have taken a deposit from myself for the room and stated that they have released it but I have not got it. I have tried to contact them but no one has replied to me. I have read reviews of other people who have had the same issue. They are thieves, do not stay here. I will find a way to get my money back.

Absolutely trash!! People drunk, smoking and doing drugs on the premise! Paper thin walls and you hear everything! You will NOT get any sleep! "Non smoking" rooms BUT they have clearly been smoked in! Staff disappears after 11 pm but everything in the town is still open so when you get back to the hotel you have zero service! I DO NOT recommend!
