I really want to give this place a 4.9999 out of 5 stars. The hotel itself, the staff, the rooms, the atmosphere...absolutely 5 stars. I feel like the location and lack of options in the area take away from what would have been an otherwise perfect stay. When we selected this hotel, we had no idea of it being a shooting location for the movie No Country for Old Men, so that was a bonus. The hotel is clean and somewhat updated while maintaining its historic feel and charm. Be aware that they food and shopping options are limited in the area and what is there does close early, so plan that if needed. There is a decent Mexican restaurant and a pizza close. The staff were friendly, parking was free and street parking and was ample during our stay. The road noise was a little loud and continued late, which was really just a few trucks being revved up by very insecure men. Overall, we are so glad we stayed here an would definitely do so again.

We go here for lunch and dinner often. Right now it might be the best place in town. Just a few vegetarian options and Trout from Idaho was the only fish option. Not pleased that a 3% CC charge was added (even a debit card). At today’s prices I’d have to find a bank machine in advance.

This hotel building is iconic. It's been featured in several movies and TV series. We decided to stay here because of its history. It's located on the historic plaza of this old New Mexican town which dates back to 1835. This is, I think, the second hotel building on this location. It dates to 1882. : First off, they buck the trend of using key cards, by providing brass keys for the rooms. They're quite adamant about getting them back. The front desk is not actually in the front. One has to walk through the lobby to find the desk. Not really a problem, but it took a bit of looking to find. We arrived on an apparently lively Saturday evening when there was much activity at the restaurant and bar that front the hotel. Ground floor is chock full of interesting photos, antiques, gift shop, the dining and evening venues. Two grand staircases lead up the second floor. Our room was on the third floor on a side facing the building next door, so not much of a view. Not a problem. The room is, by some standards, a bit small. Nicely decorated with period looking lamps and artwork.Low pile carpet on all but the toilet/shower. Our room had a small room for the sink and clothes hanging bar (not a cabinet or closet) which led into the toilet/shower-bath. The bed was comfortable. There was lack of a USB connection for charging phones. It was apparent that the electrical connections had not been upgraded, but that's to be expected in a building of this age and history. The only real negative: the shower: It took forever to get hot water in the shower. When it finally came, it was just very warm when the valve was full open and the cold shut off. The shower head does not move and is set high, pointing pretty much at the head of someone less than 6' tall. Parking is just on the street. We were fortunate to find a spot right across on the plaza. If one is less fortunate, one might have a bit of a walk from parking to the hotel. In all, staying in this historic hotel was very enjoyable. I recommend it.

Google
I really enjoyed my stay here. I had my dogs with me and having the park across the street made it much easier than staying at a roadside motel with limited grass. The room was really comfortable and very clean. Having an on-site restaurant that actually served good food was also a plus. Hotel and restaurant staff were really nice. Very laid back atmosphere.

Google
Positive: I grew up in NM and spent a lot of time in Las Vegas--I return because of the quiet and tranquility the hotel provides. Negative: The food service at the hotel is poor. There is no breakfast option and service is more or less chaotic with understaffed operations. Chaos began with the pandemic and has yet to resolve, but I remain hopeful.

Perfect midpoint stop on our vacations between AZ and CO. Amazing atmosphere. Very clean. Great staff. We look forward to staying here anytime we're in the area. 10 out of 10!

Unfortunately this hotel was super uncomfortable. Very very cold. Lady staying next to our room was complaining and stereo typing my family so it was very uncomfortable. Front desk lady was also not the friendliest, they stopped providing free breakfast. If you weren't born in the 40’s this hotel ain’t for you. Ms.Arellanes

Yelp
The Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas is known for its amazing historic architecture and famously great food. It has also been featured in television shows and Oscar award winning movies. (Longmire, The Homesman, Vampires, and No Place for Old Men). Reggie has sniffed out this place to spend the night. Good Dog!

Yelp
I just love this hotel. We have lived in Albuquerque for 4 years (from So Cal) and it's been a goal to come and stay here. Due to a change of plans my husband and I came here for thanksgiving for 2 nights. For the type of hotel the prices were very good. I definitely would not stay in a non plaza view room. First they take dogs. Which is rare for a hotel of this class. Even some of the surrounding businesses allow dogs with "well behaved humans". Second Las Vegas NM has been in I believe over 100 movies and TV shows as is one of the only towns that can represent pretty much any era from 1800s to now. And if you are a Longmire fan, his "office" is across the street from the hotel Third we were shocked and pleasantly surprised at how large the rooms are. I do not know that they are all this large but it was a king with a small sofa/settee. And a pretty large bathroom. I have stayed in old high end hotels in New York, DC and more and these are twice the size (and less than half the price) of those. I definitely could make a top 100 things list but I will just add the area is cool, the plaza is nice and dog friendly (with poo bags), it's a college town so has that funky vibe, it's been restored beautifully, we found the Prairie Cafe to be really good (not cheap fyi but worth it), they have a lovely collection of Talavera and more southwest and Mexican art, the staff is wonderful...very very nice. I will note which is not the hotels fault, if you are walking your dog alone as a female there are a few probably homeless folks around. Of course it's a nationwide problem and not like LA or NYC. Will definitely go back, for us a cool getaway about 2 hours from Albuquerque

Yelp
We love the Plaza. It has a great historic feel and square in Las Vegas is just lovely. The restaurant and bar are both very relaxing. The gift shop carries genuine items from Mexico, including mirrors that are very much to our taste.

Yelp
We always stay at this great old-time Western hotel when visiting family in Las Vegas, NM. The rooms are spacious and beautifully furnished with 19th century period furniture and native indigenous art compared to more modern and sterile cookie-cutter hotels. Get a room overlooking the old plaza for a more traditional view and feel to this quaint little old cowboy town. There is a decent restaurant and bar located in the lobby area for your convenience, as they provide a place to escape to for breakfast and lunch during the occasional winter snowstorm. We love staying here, and we highly recommend it.

Yelp
Loved this place! It's an old hotel from the heyday of the original Las Vegas - late 19th century. I feel like they raided every estate sale from New Mexico from the last 60 years to decorate this place. There are old books on shelves throughout the halls and in the rooms, as well as some older furniture, yet it doesn't smell like a musty old library, which sometimes happens with older properties. Oh, and to keep in with the classic hotel scene, they still use actual metal keys! They have put a lot of work on this property, which is probably why it's been used in a few shows, particularly Longmire. Many actors also stayed here relatively recently, based upon the signage on many of the rooms. It seems that a number of the employees also stay here, which is a nice perk. The rooms have an interesting layout, the floors creek, and the view is hit or miss, but for what I paid, I got a great history lesson just by walking the halls. The staff all seemed nice and the parking was fine, but it was all street parking. That might get a bit more difficult to deal with when the hotel is fully booked, which it wasn't the night I stayed there. Definitely recommend this place if you like hotels with history.

Yelp
A wonderful stay at the Historic Plaza Hotel! We stayed two nights in a king room with plaza view. The room was wonderful and exceeded our expectations for a historical hotel. Room and bathroom were spacious with high ceilings and well done. Only complaints for the room was that the mattress felt like it slanted and the head of the bed felt lower than the foot and the pillows weren't great. Also ate at the hotel restaurant and enjoyed our food and drinks. Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend!

Yelp
We stayed as a group. There was 15 of us. The hotel was aware of this both for our rooms and for dinner over 3 weeks in advance. They knew also in advance of what each of us chose to eat for dinner. The rooms Apparently the hotel is actually 2 very old buildings put together. Unless your room is in the front building there will be NO plaza view. There is no coffee maker in room. At 7am complimentary coffee at front desk stops restaurant opens. My room had a used coffee cup on the bookshelf And a left can of soda in refrigerator. So I didn't feel the room got a through cleaning from last guest. Dinner First the waiter says he will serve 1/2 of us first then the last 1/2. Since we were all together that was absurd. The wait for food was long enough but after we ate and they finally came to clear plates was when troubles really started we were each asked to verify what we ate and what we wanted for dessert Then we waited and we waited. Finally dessert came out and the fun with our checks started. They had no idea what receipt to give to who. Some had to leave. Some were incorrect. The process was endless. From when plates were cleared to when the last person paid and got their card back took over an hour and half. I try not to be critical but the whole hotel needs to do much better. I did give 3 stars because the front desk on Friday were very nice

Yelp
In the heart of historic Las Vegas, NM's "old town" sits the Plaza Hotel as it has for many, many years with so many secrets... and a few ghost stories ;) Over the years, "The Plaza" has seen many reincarnations, and today, you'll find it's been remastered, keeping much of its old world charm intact. A few tips when booking.... If you're looking for an experience and a beautifully decorated room, book a room with a Plaza view. It might be pricey, but it'll be worth the spend. If you're looking for a specific bed size or room quality and you don't book a room with a view you may be unpleasantly surprised when you end up in a small room with a full-size bed and the window view of the brick wall next door. My favorite change to the hotel has been the Prarie Hill Cafe, which is a gorgeous little restaurant in the hotel lobby with a coffee & pastry bar attached. Everything on the menu looks yummy, and from what I understood, almost everything.... from entrées to sides to desserts... is locally sourced and made from scratch. A stay at the Plaza Hotel is an experience. You have much of what you need there or, you can take a stroll down Bridge Street and visit all the little shops and eateries and even a tiny movie theater. Oh! And sometimes, on the weekends, you'll find live music in the hotel bar.

Yelp
Elegant but affordable historic hotel right on the Plaza. Friendly bartender and staff. Some rooms were occupied by movie stars in town on a shoot. Lots of businesses close by to patronize. My only stay when I'm in Las Vegas.

Yelp
Don't judge a book by its cover! That's what comes to mind when visiting this hotel. The history of the hotel is fascinating to read about! The hotel is flooded with historic photos, and books throughout each guest floor, an amazing little coffee stand in the lobby.

Yelp
I really enjoyed visiting the plaza hotel! We ate lunch at the restaurant, which had a beautiful, welcoming and inviting interior. There were many items on the menu to choose from. The prices seemed a little bit expensive, but the food was high quality with a fantastic atmosphere, so it was well worth it. Our waitress was very friendly, helpful and kind and also following covid safe practices during our visit. The interior decor of the restaurant is very delightful and made me feel happy in the space. There are lovely paintings and art displayed on the walls, incredible chandeliers, artisan furniture and fresh flowers on every table. The hotel is an historic building and I recommend that you explore around a little bit after your meal. There are lots of interesting historic photos, art and artifacts displayed throughout the space. Overall, I highly recommend it he plaza hotel restaurant and I would love to go back.

Yelp
Parking here I absurd. I highly recommend any other location. I complained and the desk clerk agreed. It is a nicely restored historic hotel with nasty carpet in the rooms. Be prepared to hike to your parking location. I'd guess they have maybe 15 spots that employees also use. Aggravating after a day on the road.

Yelp
Coming from a Storied Lake in search of a breakfast worthy of Serious Campsters... "Bright light morning city gonna set my soul Gonna set my soul on fire. Got a whole lot of money that's ready to burn..For Delicious breakfast that will tantalise our churn"....Las Vegas' Plaza Hotel Restaurant did just that. The "Wid Special" of sunnyside up drooling eggs over green chili good sausage over papas...for the Lass. The Lad you ask?....Avocado Toast of moist creamy/firm scrumptious slices of avocado (say it slowly..:) with reds/greens soaked in a luxurious vinaigrette on homemade bread nicely butter toasted char crispy good, haloed with drops of pesto....with a side of red chile and yes, papas....All washed down smoothly with Mimosas... Viva Las Vegas, with no neon lights flashin...or one arm bandits crashin'. Lots of hopes in the rain. Viva Las Vegas, turnin' night into daytime Turnin' dreams into night If you see it once You'll never be the same again..:) Best always, Avram Lucky Jackson Jr.

Yelp
When we saw the hotel from the outside and first walked in, it looked absolutely beautiful and renovated that is, until we got to our room. Upon check-in the staff was rude and dismissive but we had been traveling all day to attend a funeral and we were tired so I didn't really care. We were also hungry and all signage stated that the restaurant was open until 8:30 but apparently they decided they wanted to close at 8 that night so we weren't able to order food to take to our room. We got there right around 8 o'clock. we went up to the room to change and were going to go find someplace to eat but as we started to look around we noticed how filthy the room was. The carpet had not been vacuumed in a very long time and there was a sticker on the wall from a former occupant. we went downstairs and asked for a different room which was obliged. The second room was definitely an upgrade and very pretty until we started to look around. There was no toilet paper in the restroom but that's an easy fix. Once again, the room was filthy and had human hair as well as dog hair all over the carpet and while I understand that the cleaning staff doesn't detail the corners every time they clean a unit, it looked like they had never been cleaned oh and the best part? I found a roach in my bed. We were at this hotel for about 30 minutes between the two rooms and we checked out, got a refund. By that time it was about 8:30 PM and even though we had been traveling since early that morning by way of car, we decided to drive into Albuquerque where we had family that we could stay with. Needless to say, we got there about midnight. I was traveling with my elderly mother and if I could give less than one star I absolutely would. Don't stay here, don't even consider it. Also, when we finally checked out the front desk was very dismissive and didn't want to give us a receipt of check out or proof of a refund until I mentioned that I would be taking the situation up with management. All of the sudden, they could provide proof of both. And first they said that my credit card would be refunded in 3 to 5 days but miraculously, it was refunded immediately with a receipt.

Yelp
We love staying in historic hotels and we got a good rate on Priceline for one night. The hotel is beautiful. The deluxe king room we were in was super spacious and comfy, with the highest ceiling I've ever seen in a hotel room. Bed was large and comfy. Room and property seemed very clean. Mask mandate was in effect for public areas. The only bummer was that the hotel saloon was closed and the restaurant was also closed except for breakfast. We were looking forward to the old west saloon experience and the website didn't say that it and the restaurant would be closed. The hotel is across from a park in a historic area. We were hugely disappointed in the pizza place across the street from the hotel, but a little further up Bridge Street we found a cozy Mexican restaurant/bar that had great service and cheap drinks, and helped make up for our disappointment with the saloon and the pizza place. Overall, it was an OK stay for one night.

Yelp
We stayed at the Plaza so decided to check out restaurant. The fIg, Prosciutto, cheese Panini was delicious. The house salad with Rosemary Vinaigrette was seriously to die for I have never tasted anything like it so so so yummy. The truffle fries so good. This dish (sandwich and salad) I ate it two nights in a row. Will be back for sure next time heading through this area!!!

Yelp
Stayed here twice in a weeks time. First time, traveling with my son heading to college, so, booked online in advance. Got a standard 2 twin bed setups. Very comfortable and clean. AC worked flawlessly. TV had plenty of channels (didn't watch it tho). No phone in the room; but, never use them anyway. Staff very pleasant. Bar/restaurant on property (not really affiliated with the hotel so you can't charge to your room). Food was excellent and the draft beer selections had some local talent. Spent most of my time sitting outside sipping a beer watching the park/plaza out front and the locals/visitors strolling by. Pro Tip: On my return trip (sans son) I made an unexpected stop back at the Plaza. When checking in, the clerk mentioned "unadvertised" economy rooms available: single full sized bed with private bath. I didn't bother checking it out and went right to to the patio for dinner, drinks and relaxing from a long drive. Finally made it to the room (228) and was like WOW! Tall ceiling, comfy bed and spotless bathroom. Loved it. Also, Las Vegas NM is a cute little town to explore. Netflix was filming in the park area out front and apparently the film crews will take over the Plaza when in full swing - so, call ahead. Lastly, check out the Skillet for some local grub - that too is awesome...

Gavin M.

Yelp
We have been keeping an eye on the Plaza Hotel for a couple of years now, watching the remodel and reconstruction. We are HUGE fans of La Posada in Winslow, Arizona, and having a chance to stop at their sister hotel turned out to be a wonderful experience. Unfortunately we had to cut our trip short but we will be back in the future! A huge shoutout to the staff in Byron T's Saloon for the great drinks, and the absolutely awesome dinner. We had the filet mignon along with the Fatty Mac n Cheese....... Couldn't have asked for a better pairing to share as a couple.

Rock G.

Yelp
Once again we made our stop here for an overnight. Hopefully in the future we're can stay longer. The weather was frightful and cold, but the staff made us feel welcomed. Happy to see they accept pets. Front desk staff was great and accommodating. We'll be back for sure! Happy New Year into 2020

Yelp
Historic Elegance in the Heart of Las Vegas!! This is the place, yes this is the place to be if you're ever in Las Vegas NM or the surrounding area. I had the pleasure of a one night but memorable stay during a trip through the area. Bored of the usual chain hotels that typically stay in, I decided I wanted to stay someplace memorable, unique and with a touch of elegance. I pulled up my three trusty apps, TripAdvisor, Google and Yelp and for once they all agreed that this was the place to stay in Las Vegas NM, on top of that, it was surprisingly affordable. A no-brainer right? As I approached the hotel I noticed it was situated on a circular plaza. The plaza is right in the center of Las Vegas and home to many shops, businesses and restaurants. Now let's get one fine point, parking!!! You can park in front of the hotel but parking is limited, if you go to the back you find very limited parking as well. I had to park and go inside the hotel and have one of the employees tell me that you can park in the big parking lot overnight it's just unofficially okay to park there. Now to the hotel. a recent renovation that still held on the classic past is what awaits you when you walk in. There are historic artifacts all over the hotel, including pictures and paintings from the past, as well as furniture and other items. The gift shop too carries antiques as well as other touristy items. There are three places to get drinks and food, there is a bar in the hotel which serves snacks and a restaurant where I had breakfast. There is also a little coffee shop serving coffee and snacks in the front lobby. Now to the rooms. All of the rooms are uniquely decorated and named after a celebrity of the past or present. My room, in particular, was the Hilary Swank Suite which was one of the rooms that face the plaza or a Plaza View King Room. My room was elegantly ordained with antiques and tastefully decorated. Not only that, I could actually open my window!!! Another bonus was the strong signal from the wifi. My bed was big and comfy and since it was summer I slept to a nice cool breeze in my room. Please note that this was a Friday and the 'Plaza' across the street is a park with a bandstand that has live music at least on Friday nights. This is also a lively western town with nightlife, you may hear music from the bars and the sounds of loud motorcycles at any given time. In the morning I sauntered down to the restaurant and had one of the best Huevo Rancheros that I've had in a long time. The service in the restaurant was top-notch and my breakfast was absolutely delicious and at a great price point. This is the place to be if you're ever in Las Vegas, I highly recommend this place.

Debra K.

Yelp
If you are driving to Santa Fe or Taos (from the east), get off of I-40 at Tucumcari and take a most scenic drive to Las Vegas, NM. (Really, the drive is outstanding, both coming and going.) This is how we happened upon the historic Las Vegas Plaza and the Plaza Hotel a couple of years ago. We had always wanted to stay there and got the chance on our last trip. First of all, the hotel is an antique but the accommodations were not lacking. We booked a Victorian deluxe room and I was really pleased. The service (both our reservation by phone and our in person check in were done by Sean) was flawless. The other service.....(more about that later). Make sure you request a plaza facing room. The rooms are decorated nicely. Ours even had a fully stocked book shelf. There are no phones in the rooms, but wifi is free. Even if you don't end up staying here, stop in and walk the halls to see what actors have stayed here for films in the area (everything from the Longmire series to The Homesman to No Country for Old Men, just to name a few). They do offer coffee in the mornings and we were told a bit of fruit, apples and oranges mostly. The adjacent saloon and dining hall??? I would probably go elsewhere. I had read that the bar featured a LOT of regional craft beers. They had a few. The service was spotty and a bit weird. We were first given a lunch menu instead of the "bar menu" and even though we kept asking for a rundown of the brews, we were never given a beer or wine list. The salsa was good and garlicky, though. I would order that again. Beware that there may be a couple of locals that want to "hang out" and chat (for beers). They're mostly harmless but we got the impression from the bartender that they were regular bar flies here. Dinner was just OK. (We ended up with the same spacey waitress from the bar that had moved to dinner service in the restaurant.) Don't get me wrong. I would definitely stop for a brew and the experience (just to say you've done that.) We will probably stop in Las Vegas again (just because we love that scenic drive), but we've probably marked this off our bucket list. We might book another room, but we will eat elsewhere. Four stars for the hotel. Probably 2 1/2 for the saloon and dining. (Supposedly they have one haunted room, 220, if we believe our bar friends.)

Mark P.

Yelp
Great food choices. Their bread is made in-house and is excellent. The french toast is the best I've ever tasted. Friendly wait staff and the building has been beautifully restored. The hotel also has fresh baked goods: huge cinnamon rolls, lemon bars, cookies, etc.

Danada M.

Yelp
This is a fun place. And you get to tell your friends you're at the Plaza in Vegas! Just sounds so impressive The room we had didn't include a framed story of a famous person who stayed in it but I walked all the floors and read about some of the famous guests. They were filming Longmire and the hotel was hosting the crew so we were lucky to snag a room without a reservation. The restaurant and saloon have been recently restored and are lovely. The food was good too. My interest in staying at this hotel is because it was built near the era of the Louis Lamour westerns that my husband reads me every night. In particular there are several stories that mention Las Vegas NM! I wanted to enjoy the architecture and ambiance of an old hotel that the books characters would have experienced surrounded by the grand landscape described in the books. It was really great fun. If you have a husband who enjoys westerns, and you'd like your husband to read to you, but you're not sure YOU would enjoy a western story, we recommend you try reading CONAGHER by Louis Lamour. We actually gift that particular story to our friends because it is just such a fun sweet tale! It has wonderful western action for the guys and enough romance to keep a woman interested! Really most Lamour westerns are similar. Conagher is just our favorite! Listening to my husband read me a Lamour story and cuddling at the Plaza in Las Vegas...priceless!

Yelp
This hotel is amazing! I can't believe that we get to stay here and it is in our own backyard in New Mexico! It is so rich with local history as well as facts that film buffs are going to eat up! If a star has stayed in your room, there will be a plaque next to the door detailing it! This hotel has been in many feature films for good reason. It is stunning! The halls are filled with antique furniture and relics as well as books for you to read during your stay. The rooms also have gorgeous vintage furniture and artwork as well as large bathrooms. The beds are ridiculously comfortable and the staff is so friendly! We haven't tried the restaurant yet but snagged a late night treat from the front desk and it was heavenly with toasted coconut and large chocolate chips! We are already planning our next stay!

Yelp
The Plaza is a beautifully restored, living piece of history from the days of the Wild West. Great location overlooking the city's lush plaza, the heartbeat of Las Vegas. Our king plaza-view room (John Lithgow Room) was quite comfortable, as long as the A/C was working. It would freeze up after running a few hours and have to be turned off and rebooted. Other than that and a lack of facial wipes for my wife, it was quite comfortable. However, I wish hotels would quit furnishing beds with square pillows that are both too small and not too comfortable. Having a restaurant (Prairie Hill Cafe) and bar (Byron T's) on premise is a plus. Just check your bar tab closely as our barmaid had added a couple of drinks we didn't have! There also is a coffee/pastry bar which comes in handy for a quick breakfast or on Wednesday, when the restaurant and Byron T's is closed. Office staff should inform customers when they call to make reservations that include a Wednesday. Two days in this historic town is about right. Have fun.

Michelle M.

Yelp
My room was simple and big. The bathroom is spacious. The bed is huge. The wifi works well. No complaints here. I was told that my room might be haunted; I didn't experience much but then again, I slept with the lights and TV on. The restaurant is good. The wait staff take their jobs seriously and aim to please. I was part of a group of folks visiting for a meeting at Highlands University and the hotel and restaurant staff were all very helpful. We had one dinner in a private room and breakfast at the restaurant; each time the staff were very attentive and friendly. I appreciate all the work they have done to restore this historic hotel. It's quaint, quirky, and cute -- just like the city of Las Vegas itself.

Lyn Y.

Yelp
This place is so amazing! We love to stay in historic hotels and this one describing itself as "The Belle of the Southwest," did not disappoint! We arrived on a wintery evening and upon entering, the warmth of the place just fills you up. It was a holiday, January 1st and the restaurant and bar were bustling with holiday travelers and the Christmas decorations were gorgeous. The staff A+. We were starving after a treacherous drive on snowy roads during a snowstorm and the waiters took care of our every need. Our room was gorgeous and huge, completely unexpected especially since we had booked a budget non-plaza view room. Our room was beautifully flooded with natural light, and our bed although we were warned it was a true full size was comfy and warm. The bathroom was updated and sparkly clean. I loved the details of all the antique furniture and the various bookshelves throughout the halls where you could pick a book to read! Also we read that local artisans often design the furnishings throughout the hotel. The windows must have been 14 feet, truly a sight to see! Couldn't recommend this place more highly. Enjoy your stay and welcome a part of history into your experience.

Yelp
We stayed here for a few nights in December. We stayed in the third floor in a room with two queen beds - and it was very clean! This hotel is so charming and architecturally stunning. The employees were all very nice and helpful. The town had a couple of cute shops that I recommend you check out. We enjoyed the food at the Range Cafe as well!

Ali R.

Yelp
I love staying at the Plaza. It is clean, the staff is always friendly and helpful, and I love the atmosphere of an old building with updated rooms. The decor is gorgeous and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. On the wall next to the rooms, they have pictures and biographies of a famous person who stayed in the room. You'd be shocked at all of the actors who stayed there while filming in the area. The rooms facing the town center can get noisy on Friday nights but it calms down by bedtime. They allow dogs and they're very sweet with them. If you are really brave or curious, you can stay in one of the rooms that is supposedly haunted! That's what brought us to the town the first time, and after discovering that there's a lot more to it than what you see driving past on the interstate, we keep going back.

Yelp
Love that they were very accommodating to what room we wanted and pet friendly is a bonus. We have stayed here quite a few times as our midway point to Az from Wy. Rooms a very cute and the books are a plus as well. It's like a hotel library.

Yelp
This hotel rocks! The staff is very attentive and friendly, they work hard to make your stay comfortable, they know you are a customer and it shines through their service. The rooms are excellent and have been totally updated with excellent amenities, bonus points for comfortable beds and pillows. The hotel's Range Cafe has a menu that is diverse and sensitive to all dietary needs. Every meal I had was super tasty, the blue corn pancakes one morning were a real treat. It's New Mexico, hey, green chilies! We had meetings at our retreat and the meeting facilities were very accommodating. This historic property has been thoroughly refurbished to provide all the features one would expect at a 5 star hotel, yet it is on the National Register of Historic Places and is situated on the old town Plaza. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a romantic weekend getaway or a organizational meeting retreat facility. I salute the owner of this hotel for a thoughtful restoration making this historic place a destination that has appeal to all comers! P.S. It's pet friendly

Yelp
I love this place! I visit at least oncee every time I'm in town which is often. It's such a remarkable part of American history and cinematic history that is still brimming with life. It's a beautiful place that is comfortable to the times while the owners/management/staff stay true to the history and nostalgia of a time bygone. Any staff I have had contact with are always very friendly and accommodating. Though it's a true historical building/busIness I have never seen or got the impression there was ever anything unclean or unkempt about any part of The Plaza Hotel. It's very clean and up to date while not compromising the history or aura. The Plaza Hotel (Castaneda) of Las VEgas New Mexico are not jussi must visits when in Las Vegas they are must visits when in the South West!

Yelp
The hotel is by far beautiful & the history is something to be seen. However, the pillows suck. They are 1/2 the size of a standard pillow. So bring your own.. As for coffee -none to be found. No in room machines, none prepared by front desk. COVID- was the excuse. BS- we've stayed all over the state of NM (many cites) this week and this was not the case. If your not here for the history & want to shop, this is not the town for you. Many of the store front as closed for good & those open are from 11-4.. check in is at 4- haha towns closed- good luck!

Yelp
Particularly clean, comfortable and mildly elegant stay and despite the strict circumstances currently deployed to deter contamination the staff we met were anything but sterile: nice, friendly, accommodating, easy to communicate with.... imparting a relaxed, even somewhat homey quality to an otherwise fairly grand hotel stricken with restrictions. We shall be pleased to return during brighter times.

Yelp
The plaza hotel accepted my reservation and then called me to cancel my reservation a day later. They kept saying it "is a glitch in our system" like they are not responsible for their reservation system. When I explained the inconvenience they have caused me, they at first agreed to compensate me for their mistake but then called me back to renege on the compensation. This hotel doesn't care for its guests. They are not trustworthy. They are unprofessional.

Yelp
Super cute Victorian house restored to hotel, bar, and restaurant. Spend your money here in the cute downtown instead of big box hotels. Had a nice dinner with after dinner drink on the patio enjoying the park across the street.

Yelp
***COVID-19 UPDATE*** ***precautions were met 100%*** By the staff! This place is a Gem! We live in Tucson,AZ & had to take a trip to Montana. Due to COVID-19 we decided we didn't want to fly, but also we have a 5 year old and a 14 year old doggo. We made a plan to see little historical places and support local shops & restaurants during our drive up to Montana. Let me just start off by saying this place doesn't due justice online! JUST WOW! We called the day we left Tucson and were able to talk to someone over the phone (Sean & Amanda- Remember these names!) and it made our booking experience absolutely hassle free! This Historical Hotel is PET FRIENDLY as well. This is also why we decided on Las Vegas, NM because of this Hotel! Sean was the gentleman whom helped us on our 1st stay up here about 3 weeks ago, he took our reservations over the phone and was there behind the desk when we arrived. Upon us arriving Sean told us that he has been with this historic hotel for 20+ years! Simply amazing to see the enthusiasm he had & the passion for this lovely place, he gave us some history and stories that were absolutely incredible! (No I will not tell you lol go see for yourselves lol but trust me it's worth it!) They have a cute & quaint coffee shop in the main lobby that has treats, specialty coffee's & fresh orange juice machine! Also in the main lobby they have a Bar as well as a restaurant called The Prairie Hill Cafe with a fantastic selection of food and cocktails! They also support local by getting meat from farmers in their area as well as making things in house. We had breakfast and our server Kayla was absolutely thee sweetest ever! She was vary informative on the menu and sparked up a great conversation! This was our first stay... fast forward 3 weeks and we decided to come back on our way home. Again we called on the road and was connected with a lovely & bubbly women named Amanda! She again made and outstanding impression on us for our reservation being stress free and so easy. I'd also like to add how the prices of their rooms are absolutely reasonable! ***PET FRIENDLY & REASONABLE*** IN TODAYS WORLD THIS IS HARD TO FIND FRIENDS!*** So on our second arrival Amanda was working the desk this time. She got us checked in quickly and was just as sweet in person! While checking in we saw Sean (the gentleman whom helped us on our 1st stay) and he remembered us right away! He wasn't working but was there helping around the hotel! We stood and talked with Amanda & Sean for a bit and explained that my daughter's birthday was the following day and we were so happy to be able to spend it here. We got to our room & instantly felt comfortable, these rooms are absolutely clean clean clean! My daughter and my other half walked down to the coffee shop to get her a hot cocoa and she had asked if they had marshmallows, which the nice gentleman at the counter said unfortunately I don't. As he finished stating that another employee said hold on really quick an ran to the back kitchen from the restaurant side and came out with a few for our kid! I want to thank Auggie whom went OVER & BEYOND when he didn't have to. Your assertiveness was noticed & I appreciate you for that! We then decided we wanted to go to eat dinner at The Prairie Hill for they were having $3.00 ground beef tacos ($1.50 more for carne... that price tho!) we were greeted by a nice young man named Eric as he was seating us he stated that they are a bit short handed tonight but he would do everything he could to be assertive to our needs! The dining room was filling up quickly but he never seemed uncomfortable nor flustered even tho he was only waiter there! (I am in the hospitality business for about 15 years now and he showed so much grace, hospitality & concern for us being served!) Thank you Eric & to his GM. Zeke who was behind closed doors and helping him bring out our lovely and tasty meals! Team work does make the dream work here! We ordered a few cocktails and the bartender brought them directly to our table and a few "real" maraschino cherries for our kiddo! By the time we were finished we went up and relaxed in our quite cozy room. In the morning we came down and saw Kayla was there and wanted to have breakfast since she was working! After breakfast we proceeded to check out. Amanda, Sean & the GM Diane was up front chatting so we jumped in & told them that they all make this place the best part to come visit! We didn't feel as if we were just guests but friends! Amanda surprised my daughter with a beautiful gift from their gift shop as we were leaving & I about cried because of her kindness! This is my new favorite place by far! So here is our thank you to the impeccable staff at The Historical Plaza Hotel! I am so amazed at how your team welcomes and works so hard together, it most definitely wasn't unnoticed! See you soon our new friends! Sara, Dean, Addie & Stinky Tinky

Yelp
Making reservation on the phone directly with the hotel was easy. Hotel and bar staff were nice and helpful. My queen bed hotel room was roomy, comfortable and clean with nice bed linens and towels. The bed was very comfortable. The decor and furniture were appealing, authentic and in good condition. The bathroom was clean, the water was hot and the water pressure in the shower was good. Beautiful hotel and location. I enjoyed staying here. It was very reasonably priced. I had squash soup and a grilled cheese sandwich in the Plaza bar. Both items were delicious. I ate breakfast across the plaza at Olivia's, it was also very good.

Yelp
This is a really neat historic hotel. Watch out - it's haunted. Lots of famous people have stayed here and the rooms are named after them. It has a cute saloon and restaurant, although we didn't eat there. Do your homework before you go, though. We thought Las Vegas would be a day of sightseeing, and we spent about an hour there. I'm sure there are events and we probably didn't do our homework. I just suggest checking on what you can do before you go.

Yelp
Enjoyed my stay here very much - the food, the decor, the gift shop, the customer service, the history, and the ambiance are ALL exceptional! The one thing I would change next time (and it's a biggie) is the room. I would insist on a room with windows. Too, the ventilation in that part of the hotel (the middle?) was horrible. I woke up congested every morning and felt claustrophobic at times. Another windowless room experience would be a non-starter for me at this hotel even if it was the only hotel with availability in Las Vegas, NM and the surrounding area. But, with a window, some ventilation, and all of the other great things I mentioned earlier, the Plaza Hotel would rate 5 stars for sure. PS: The elote appetizer available in the bar area is delicious! And, yes, for all of you ghost-chasers out there, the place is haunted (I woke up to the sound of the floor creaking in the middle of the night as if someone was walking by the foot of my bed.)

Yelp
When we arrived in Las Vegas it was late evening. We planned to drive further but we were tired and hungry. All of our friends on social media thought we were tweeting about being in the OTHER Las Vegas and wishing us well with our gambling. But the only gamble we were taking now was the dreaded task of being a walk-in guest at an unfamiliar motel. You know the drill ... they're at 20% occupancy but because it's late and they have you standing in their lobby they won't budge from the fictitious and ridiculous rack rate. Yelping immediately revealed a place we would both love to stay, a historic, one-of-a-kind non-chain hotel right on the plaza square. Surely it must be out of our budget and probably booked solid. We took the chance and drove over. Sean was at the desk when we arrived. He greeted us like old friends and immediately made us feel welcome. He gave us a verbal history of the hotel and described the rooms. And then he got to the rate. I almost fell over. Are you kidding? I mean seriously, we've paid more to stay in a Motel 6. A lot more! Being prudent travelers we were obligated to ask if there was any further discount for AAA, cash, the American Duck Club, etc. Sean explained that the owners already reduced the rates for the season but since we qualified for so many discounts (especially the Duck Club) he could put us in one of the front rooms overlooking the plaza. Not only yes, but HECK yes! Sean became my hero when I inquired if the rooms had something to make hot water or a microwave. They don't but he scurried off to the kitchen and made us a pitcher of steaming hot water and brought us two cups for our pre-bed cuppa tea. Our room was beautiful, large, clean and had 4 large double-hung windows directly overlooking the park. Windows that actually open for fresh air (necessary because when we walked in the room was hot and stuffy). The rest was just one good experience after another. We walked the halls before bedtime and read the plaques noting the many famous people who had stayed in each room. The beds and pillows were perfect for a deep comfortable sleep. The bathroom was clean and well stocked, though I might mention a common complaint lately is the tub has no non-slip treatment and can get very slippery while showering. Breakfast at the Gilded Age the next morning was awesome. Imagine, hotel food that actually excels. I had Eggs Benedict that ranks up there with some of the best. And unlike most hotels that are stratospherically priced for their in-house restaurant the prices at the Gilded Era are downright cheap. Oh, and there is free fresh coffee for guests in the hotel lobby. If you stay I suggest taking a little time to browse the gift shop. This is not your typical tourist trap hotel gift shop! Most items are handmade and truly unique. I bought some hand painted drawer knobs and a tissue box that are perfect for my guest bath. So how do I rate the Plaza Hotel and Gilded Age? On a scale of 1 -5 they earn at least a 20.

Yelp
Update: 7/15/19 Just left after our 4th stay. The Plaza keeps getting better. Special kudos (again) to Sean the Night Desk Dude. Original Review: We generally avoid hotels because of expense. The Plaza Hotel is one of ** the best** lodging values we've ever encountered. Exceptional value for price: large, clean, comfortable, tastefully 1890s-feel decorated rooms with all the modern amenities; ours overlooked LV's historic plaza square. Delightful Southwest décor and art surprises everywhere you look. Wonderful staff: Sean at the front desk sketched on a map, then escorted us outside to point out where the A&E/Netflix Longmire TV mysteries were filmed, where legendary Doc Holliday practiced dentistry and Patrick Swayze fought Soviet invaders in "Red Dawn." The restaurant is excellent and quite reasonably priced. On-street parking only, but no parking meters -- your vehicle is safe, this isn't the sewer downtown West Coast cities like San Francisco has become. The LV community is deeply committed to preserving the best of its past. The Plaza Hotel is one of the jewels in the old town historic district's sparkling crown. We will definitely return and recommend this establishment most heartily.

Yelp
If you're anywhere near Las Vegas, New Mexico do yourself a favor and stay at the beautiful, historic Plaza Hotel! The rooms are comfortable. The facilities are top notch. The decor is unique, and the whole establishment exceeds expectations in every way!

Yelp
Sean (front desk attendant) was phenomenal at getting us a last minute reservation on a busy Friday night. Everyone we met was wearing a mask and everything was sanitized before we touched it. Clean rooms, interesting decor, and nice people. To me, staff makes or breaks a hotel and Sean gets 5 stars from us. The Plaza Hotel is well kept, it is older so keep that in mind and doesn't have a working restaurant right now, but for what it was which was a historic old hotel-- we were thrilled. We will be back!

Yelp
My recently new husband and I, had the honor of hosting all our family and friends last weekend at the Historic Plaza Hotel ballroom for our wedding reception and it was absolutely stunning. We really enjoyed our time, the room, staff, and surprisingly even the wedding food was delicious. (Something we weren't really expecting, but very satisfied with). The ballroom looked so beautiful and we were overwhelmed with all the compliments we got. My husband and I, rented the honeymoon suite and loved our room and the style. It was very affordable, clean, and classy. The bathroom came with a big jacuzzi and walk in shower. We loved it! We are also big fans of the new restaurant The Range Cafe- it was sooo good. Loved the red and green chile. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a simple, but yet very personal and elegant place for a wedding reception.

Yelp
I had my doubts when I first thought about staying in our old hotel in Las Vegas New Mexico but I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is very good with vegan alternatives. The hotel is very neat and clean

Yelp
We were going to 'Bean Day' at Wagon Mound, and decided to stay in Las Vegas, where we figured there would be a few hotel rooms that were available. I'll just comment on what stands out in my mind. The room didn't strike me as being exceptionally clean. This is the first time that I've seen a dirty tissue next to the bed (asked husband to dispose of that). There's a low headboard that we each whacked ourselves on. Husband did it first, and that was understandable, since he wasn't expecting it. I guess I wasn't expecting it either, even after seeing it in action. Husband could not figure out how to change the channel, and was annoyed. So we watched those weird documentaries where historical things are explained by aliens or whatever, until we fell asleep. It was quiet. I was a little worried that we would keep people up by watching TV late at night, or we'd hear other people, but nothing. Ceilings are really high, like over 12 feet. It had an authentic historical feel. The breakfast was pretty good. We ordered just one, so when they brought out two full plates, we thought they had gotten it wrong. Turns out they had split it for us, so a single portion must be truly enormous. This doesn't sound all that great, reading it over. Nevertheless, we had a great time.

Yelp
So excited to stay here. So many good reviews I guess my expectations were just to high The staff were unhelpful and rude the food was ice cold and the management really did seem to care at all

Yelp
We have stayed here many times with our dogs and every single time it is absolutely awesome. This place is very accommodating and comfortable. The location is great and we always run into great people. It's a small town but the people add so much life to this environment. The hotel itself has everything you could possibly need and makes it do easy to bring your four legged friends. This is one place we keep coming back to time after time.
