Excellent stay! The rooms were so clean and comfortable. I went to sleep as SOON as my head hit the pillow. The retro vibe is so nostalgic and comforting as well. Best rest I've had in a while. And at such a reasonable rate too. The gentleman in the lobby was so friendly too. I would highly recommend!

I stayed here in June while touring the west on motorcycle .||This place won't check you in until 3pm and I arrived a little early so I just sat down and waited for them to open. ||One of the owners a woman came by and allowed me to check in.||While getting settled in my room I heard by buddy pull up on his bike. He noticed that office was locked and yelled across the parking lot to me hey how'd you get in?||Before I could answer him this guy comes storming out of one of the rooms (manager) and starts yelling at the top of his lungs at my buddy to get the F off the property and leave! ||He was extremely arrogant and rude, dropping f bombs while ordering my friend off the property with no reason offered. ||Obviously he left and I soon joined him. ||Never have I seen this type of business model but the guy running this place is horrible. ||I would caution anyone from ever staying here.

It had been a long, scorching, and extraordinarily flat day of driving through the wastelands of Texas. We were tired, and searching for some desert oasis. Although the mixed reviews filled us with some trepidation, we needn’t have worried. It seems we fell on the benevolent side of Notorious Bub that day, and we had quite the lovely conversation for two weary travelers. The room’s lighting was sufficiently moody, the bedding was comfortable, and the bathroom was clean. The warm water washed away the dust of our journey, leaving us ready in the morning to explore the town, which was very cute and Americana but also seemed to be dying. I couldn’t have wished for a better refuge before our next destination of the Blacksmith’s Lair.

Google
nice clean rooms, back far enough from the highway to be quiet, no coffee in rooms but the manager recommended a long time rt 66 restaurant for breakfast.

Google
The owner is not a good person. He stands by the office menacingly smoking his pipe and looking for a reason to freak out. Had a most unpleasant and unnecessary confrontation with the guy as we left the room door open to get some fresh air. We broke the owners rule apparently, and he actually came into our room, yelled at us about bugs flying in, and threatened to kick us out. We were flabbergasted. It is a cute motel, but the owner is a predator waiting for someone he deems worthy of his insanely quick fuse.. Just look at the reviews. 5 stars from folks he didn't verbally attack, and one star from those he gleefully attacks because he enjoys confrontation. A bad person. He barged into our room uninvited and freaked out about non-existent bugs. BEWARE OF THIS ANGRY PIPE SMOKER!!

Google
Tucumcari is a great mid point stop when driving from Kansas City to the Southwest. I have stayed here 3 times over the years. I appreciate the owners who accommodate my late arrival with friendly conversation. I like the nostalgia of the hotel with the mid-century fell. The rooms are clean and the bed is comfortable. What more can you ask for. Thanks for another nice stay.

Google
Great place. Would definitely stay again. Rooms could use a little updating but overall a great RT66 old school vibe. Owner was awesome and very helpful.

Google
Clean. Quiet. Reasonable priced. I always enjoy my stay. Easy to find, it's less than half a mile from the freeway. It is the only motel with airplanes in front of the business. We highly recommend this place for the weary traveler who likes to park in front of their room.

Yelp
We had driven over 600 miles eastbound and the weather had been quite cold for this time of year. That probably explains why we didn't have any bugs on our windshield. We got to town and it had warmed up to a very pleasant 70 degrees. We got a room and we were casually unloading our PU for the night. We left the room door open while we were carrying in our stuff. We were in no hurry to unload, and the room could stand a bit of airing out. The owner showed up at our door and informed us he wanted us to keep our door shut because of bugs. He reaches into the room, grabbed the door handle, and slammed the door shut. With us standing right there!! There are too many other decent motels in this town (and cheaper) to put up with that crap!

Yelp
Very quaint hotel. Unique experience with retro flair. Quiet and very clean. Owned by a veteran. Bypass all the big name companies and stay somewhere different. Support our troops instead of the massive hotel chains. Pet friendly with a lovely park next door

Yelp
This motel is perfect for a long road trip. It is clean, quiet, and has a charm that is hard to find and replicate. An older gentleman held a room for my mother, myself AND our cat (that's right, it is pet friendly) I highly recommend if you need a place off of route 66
google avatar

Cindi B.

Yelp
This is the 3rd time we have stayed here. Yes, it's vintage and older than most motels but it's iconic! We love staying in this type of establishment bc we love having our car close for convenience and security. The only downside was the carpet was in need of replacement.

Denise M.

Yelp
Historic hotel, original (retro) 60s decor, very comfortable, rooms quiet, no frills, accommodating staff, always stay here on my way thru. Great restaurants close by.

Jennifer R.

Yelp
This hotel is not super fancy, but the beds are comfortable. The heating and air-conditioning works and the owner is super nice. It's very clean. We stopped on our way to our destination and then we stopped on our way back we liked it that much. They give you Bubba water for your room. If there's any problems they help you. They have a separate towel for cleaning off your window in your car. Simple nice and clean.

Janette M.

Yelp
I was so lucky to end up here. Dog and cat friendly. King room is huge and totally affordable

Ryan T.

Yelp
Very friendly staff. Clean rooms. They're older but cute historic Route 66 vibes. You can stay at a holiday inn anytime, I recommend trying this out

L B.

Yelp
The dude that is running the place is number 1 A$$. The room was absolutely disgusting. Dog piss smell knocked us down. Pre paid, so we took a quick nap and moved on. Traveling with dogs doesn't mean we agree to sleep in piss! Our dogs jumped up on the furniture to keep off the nasty carpet. We have made plans on the way back home to stay at Road Runner. DON'T STAY HERE

Yelp
Wonderful clean motel with comfy beds!! A couple of things: their sign says "coffee shop" but the coffee shop appears to be closed; we were there 8 am Saturday morning. There is also no coffee in the room nor in the lobby. It is all fine, just plan ahead if u r a coffee drinker! Edited to add: the owner was very pleasant and friendly when we checked in.

Marc T.

Yelp
Went to get a room and asked if we could see one. The asshole, who we think owns this place, said "We don't show rooms. If you want to see one go elsewhere". We thought since reviews were ok we might still get one so asked if rooms were clean. Reply: I don't stay here so I don't know. We said we had 2 pets. Although no cars were in the lot he was rude & said all pet rooms were full. Was never treated so rudely in my life by an asshole hotel owner. DO NOT STAY HERE.

Yelp
I love this Mid-century Modern Motel. It is very well kept. Crisp linens and decor is just what I would expect for Historic Route-66! It's a little hidden treasure of US-40! I highly recommend it!!
google avatar

Joel A.

Yelp
Great little historic motel on old US66. Built in the 60s with that style in the furniture but with a touch of modernization and renewal. Very clean, unlike a lot of the older places run by the Patel family from Een-DEE-ah. No phone system but there is Internet Wi-Fi and if you doubtfully traveling sans cell phone. Rates were extremely low and below the fleabag motels. This one is now my favorite for stopping when heading west out of Dallas on I-40. Again, VERY CLEAN, updated inside,, and nice proprietors.

Yelp
What a place! Great price, clean rooms, easy going management, and the feel of the old Americana life style! This place is a memory of the really good old days! Without the, some times, excessive amenities, this is the hotel to rest after hours of driving from the mountains. The rooms are spacious and clean, and all the basics works as they should, nothing fancy, but everything good, like in the old movies, when people didn't expect to get their life fixed by a "pumpkin spiced mocha latte"! If you are passing by Tucumcari and need some rest, and you would like to see some happy faces and friendly fellows, with the feel of stepping in the past when America was the place for big dreams! Stop here, this is your place! (At a very affordable prices!)

Yelp
Zero stars, zero stars, zero stars!!!!!! Don't be fooled by the positive reviews. This place is beat!! The owner was not cool at all, in fact he was intimidating and jerkish. Zero stars.
google avatar

Yelp
This place really needs new beds. The place is nice and clean. The showers water pressure is great. The only thing I would change is the stiff bed.

Debbie D.

Yelp
We've stayed in this motel at least 4 times passing through, and have always been happy with everything. However, this time wasn't up to par. When we checked in around 4:30, we were the only car in the parking lot, which seemed unusual. We were told the window unit had been turned on, which it had, but it took until around midnight to finally cool down. We've never had pillows that were this hard. Sleep was elusive due to the temperature of the room and pillows. There is no longer coffee available. There is ice available in the office. The owner was once friendly in previous visits, but wasn't this time. Maybe just a bad day? Also in previous visits, the rooms were a reasonable price, but at close to $100 per night, it just isn't worth it anymore. Next time we'll try another place. On a positive note, it is very clean, which got it the 3 stars.

Yelp
Let me start by telling you what you will not get: Wifi, a hot tub, room service and hallways. There are also not a lot of wall plugs. Now for what I did get: An exceptionally clean room, (not even a water spot on the sink faucet), walls that look freshly painted, a well made bed with clean sheets, carpet that looks new, a full TV package and great service at nearly half the price of the chain hotels near the interstate. Even the curbs in the parking lot looked just painted. What you get here that you can not get at a chain hotel by the interstate is Americana. You get a hotel that is perfectly dated. It is actually on Route 66! By staying here you are living a piece of the story that made the road legendary. The planes out front are really cool too. (I'm sure there is a back story but I have not discovered it yet) : ) After tonight I will be a small part of the history of this great road, a traveler, one of many, who enjoyed the journey, met wonderful people along the way, and experienced an American icon. I absolutely love it!!

Nick F.

Yelp
I would recommend staying here. Room was clean with a microwave and fridge. The manager is very friendly. Room for parking with trailers.

john j.

Yelp
Note: I'd give this motel 3.5 Stars if that was possible. This is an OK place. The owner/manager was very friendly, and we had a good conversation during my check-in. Do not attempt to check in before 3PM. Nobody will be at the locked office. We were in one of four occupied rooms here. Tucumcari feels like a dying town, with dying/dead businesses, except for the few bigger national chains that draw from all of the surrounding towns. The dinosaur museum rocks, pun intended. TV channels were great. AC was good, once I shined my flashlight on all of the many, many, tiny buttons, and figured out how to get it cooling the way I wanted it. The room was OK, but just OK. I failed to feel like I was in an authentic 50's/60's motel, despite what other reviewers have written, here. The bed has the worst mattress I've ever experienced, in any motel I've stayed at. It felt like a piece of cardboard over a few springs. The bathroom door did not stay closed. Pretty horrible, in view of the next paragraph. My gf ate at the Chinese restaurant that was recommended, at check-in. This morning, she was hit by General Chan's Revenge. Use your imagination. The bathroom has no exhaust fan. Whoa....... The price was definitely not great. There are other motels, here, that go for lower. I paid around $105. $85 would have been a fair price, including a pet charge. We will not be back, but I certainly wish the manager well. Nice guy.

Kaylee B.

Yelp
Man at front desk was very rude, we politely asked to see a room and he immediately told us to leave. Very awkward and off putting.

Doug D.

Yelp
Can confirm the guy that runs the place is a Grade A jerk. Before check-in I asked if it was possible to take a quick look at the room, in the nicest way. He said no because he "didn't have anyone available to show it" and said if I wanted to look at a room beforehand there were other places "down the road" that would let me. I stood there for a few seconds not sure how to respond as he stared at the floor, then he asked "so are you going to stay here or go down the road??" I obviously chose the latter and had a wonderful stay at the Roadrunner (who BTW didn't have anything to hide and were more than happy to let me see the room) I always ask to see the room before check-in and have never been refused. Almost always they just hand me the key and I open the door, take a quick look, then go check-in. 9 times out of 10 the room is acceptable. I don't need anyone to "show" me the room, I am capable of using a key to unlock a door and opening it. The place was dead so he could have taken a minute to show it if he didn't trust potential guests with a key for 60 seconds. So, Im sure he will respond with something along the lines of "safety, etc. protocol" or not being to leave the office of a dead motel for one minute (which is in view of all the rooms). Again, dozens of other motel owners have figured out a way to grant this simple request. Or that he's glad I went elsewhere. Go look at the recent reviews. His go-to retort is "go down the road" to another place if he can't be bothered with your issue. Or if you are checked-in and have an issue he will offer to give you your money back if you leave and "go down the road". It's obvious this guy just runs this place as a retirement hobby and as he reports to no one he couldn't care less if you stay there or not. He should just rename the place "Go Down the Road" to save himself the aggravation of having to interact with people.

Meg G.

Yelp
What a gem! We were looking for a place for our family of 5 to rest between long travel days and this place fit the bill perfectly. Clean, affordable, and charming-- it was everything we needed and more for a quick nights rest! The owners are nice and accommodating, and even gave us several suggestions for food when we mentioned we hadn't eaten yet. There's also a little park next door we let our kids run some energy out before bedtime. Don't skip out on this place!

Cobra B.

Yelp
The old bald man at the front desk has a disgusting attitude, will lie and get defensive. He yells and is rude to children. This place is definitely not family friendly.

Mark E.

Yelp
Beware, no one there until 3pm, we had to sit and wait. We pulled a chair out to sit outside once checked in, manager blew a gasket, and yelled at us. We had no idea that we were not suppose to do that It could of been handled differently Won't go back

Yelp
The rooms in this hotel are large and comfortable and have a great vintage style. The bathroom is cute and clean. They allow dogs, so Frank was very comfortable here too. Blake was great! He told us about local places to see and things to do. I would definitely stay here again if I came through Tucumcari.
google avatar

Barbara P.

Yelp
The owner treated us like friends coming to visit! He called me by name as I stepped in the front door. I like how they have preserved the mid-century modern style in the rooms and the chairs outside the room. I also like the fact that the motel is only only one floor, so I could park my car by my room and walk right in. The owner is so very friendly and instantly likable. He told us about local restaurants and the Espresso Coffee shop connected to his motel. He also gave us a bag of ice and offered to bring us more later if needed. I enjoyed the shower here. It felt like a rain shower, fine massaging spray, with excellent water temperature. This is a simple and very clean motel in Tucumcari, right on old Route 66, just barely off highway I-40. I feel very safe and comfortable here for my one night stay on the way to Santa Fe. I highly recommend your stay at the Historic Route 66 Motel in Tucumcari!
google avatar

Danah V.

Yelp
This place was awesome and so affordable. It was very clean and nicely renovated while keeping that Route 66 feel. There's a coffee shop on the premises that opens at 7 am. Also the counters and floor in the office are beautiful. But what really makes this place score 5 stars from me are the owners. We stopped on the way to our destination and they were full. But the owner helped us book another room in town on line. We stopped on our way back and it was a great choice. The kids were even treated to ice cream by them, which was very welcome after 500+ miles in the car. We will make this our way point when traveling west.

Yelp
When I needed to make arrangements for a hotel on a drive from Kansas City to Flagstaff, I chose to stop in Tucumcari. I fell in love with the area around Albuquerque last year, and was excited to drive back through. Generally, I'm an epic fail when it comes to making my own travel arrangements cause i travel so often for my job. I made arrangements for the hotel, and spoke with the nicest front staff (the owner?) on the phone. They had me call them in Dalbert, Tx so they could turn on my air conditioner. I arrived at the hotel, got my room, and was given a key. Thrilled to be holding a key and not a key card. I opened my door, and the room was gorgeous. Huge, and clean. it smelled like laundry detergent and fresh cedar. the ceilings were high, and the bed was large. The room was beautiful. It had a small refrigerator, large, very clean smelling bed. The sink was a triangle marble sink. The room had a TV and microwave. The table and soft chairs were to the side. Plenty of room, and very large.I stay in tons of hotel rooms (Mariott and Hilton). This hotel was better, by far than most of those. The room lacked a clock, but I think lacking a clock added to the charm. The internet worked great. This wouldn't be a hotel for business travel, but for personal travel. The room is the size of a suite in regular hotels. $36.95 for a night for one person. There is an Espresso bar to the side of the hotel with 10% off for the hotel guests. I was so pleased. I hope I get to stay in this hotel again. I absolutely loved it.

Big D.

Yelp
It's a nice place. I only stayed here for one night but as far as I saw it's an ok place. They have no breakfast and no coffee in the morning but tucumcari is a small town so they have a lot of stuff pretty close and they have a coffee shop right next door. One thing I hate about it is the internet. There's 2 WiFi signals and they both don't work. I went to the front desk for help and the guy didn't know what the hell was going on. He's really weird. But other than that it's ok.
google avatar

M A.

Yelp
This is my favorite hotel to stay in Tucumcari. I can't tell you how gracious the owners are. They have a lot of insight to the town and are very helpful. The rooms are super clean and very comfortable. I love this place and will only stay here when I come to town. If it were possible to give a 10 star rating, that's what I would give them.
google avatar

Gordon F.

Yelp
The name pretty much says it... a historic motel recently upgraded to high contemporary standards. Squeaky clean and very comfortable, quiet window AC kept the temperature just right. Peach and aqua tile in the bath, some nostalgic 60's walnut paneled walls. Complimentary coffee and ice in the lobby. Super friendly owner/host is a wealth of local recommendations and historical data. One of the nicest stays on a trip filled with higher-end chain hotels. We would love an opportunity to stay again.

Yelp
If looking for a comfortable clean place to stay LOOK NO FURTHER. I was absolutely delighted that I found this motel. After driving for 15 hours I was exhausted and ready to find a place to sleep. I had my cats with me and had spent an hour the night before in Lousianna looking for a hotel that accepted cats; I was happy when I called to hear an enthusiastic yes, in response to asking if they had pet friendly rooms. To the point: adorable vintage style rooms, the room was absolutely spotless and clean. The owner was kind, plenty of parking. Comfortable beds with three pillows and clean water. Much nicer than a motel 6 or Super 8 which vary in quality by location and even cheaper. When they say pet friendly they mean it, some hotels say they are but have bed frames with gaps underneath that a cat will very easily jump under. Trust me when I say there is no bigger nightmare when traveling with cats. I've had to take apart and life mattresses and box springs before. Not here!!! Safe and comfortable for me and my cats.

Yelp
I stayed at this hotel in June of 2012 after one of the worst days of my life. I was a single mom traveling with my 4 year old daughter across the US and our car had broken down for the 15th time. Cathy's kindness and hospitality was so above and beyond what was expected, she was so incredibly nice and helpful, 3 years later its stuck with me. When I look back on our trip, even though that was an awful day, our night at this hotel made it a very sweet and special memory. The hotel is freaking adorable. And IMMACULATE! So cheap I don't know how they're in business. It was 110 degrees outside but icy cold in our room because of the fantastic AC. Stay here!!!

Suzanne S.

Yelp
This was a perfect stop on our roadtrip to ski in Taos. The owners were really nice (and willing to wait for us to get there late at night). The room was very clean. In the morning we had fun looking at the old planes. Definitely recommend.

Gail A.

Yelp
Totally worth the money, which is very affordable. Very clean and well-appointed for its retro style. We were able to get a king room for us and our dog as a walk-in and the check-in was effortless. The friendly owner offered dinner suggestions that were just what we needed. The whole place is clean and comfortable, easily accessible and feels fresh. My only reason for les than 5 stars is a shortage of sockets and no access to coffee or soft drinks early in the morning. It's really quite impressive for what it is.

Yelp
Here is a motel that really earns the right to use the Route 66 name. Okay, yes, we stayed at Route 66 Inn at Shamrock, Texas, liked it, and recommend it; but the Historic Route 66 Motel in Tucumcari is much more in keeping with the Mid-Century Modern aesthetic. It's not available on the hotel booking site I normally use, but you can get to their website from Yelp! and book from there. First impressions: it's one of the many old motels on Route 66 in Tucumcari, not the flashiest one from the road but a good, solid, largish motor lodge circa 1960. There's a Cadillac convertible parked out front beneath a speaker playing classic Sinatra. There are turquoise and wood chairs, an abstract wood sculpture and an Ericofon in the office. Also a live kitten! Our room has a splatter painting and a turquoise sink counter with Quartz inlay. Cool, man! The amenities are a little more than you'd expect from an older, independent motel, a little less than you get at a midrange hotel chain. The TV was a generation or so before flatscreen, flanked by a microwave oven and a fridge. There was coffee and free wifi. The water pressure was very good. My only complaint would be that we had to get creative to plug in our many devices. In the morning we took pictures (hey! There's the remains of a small, real airplane by the motel sign!) and chatted a little with the owners. It turns out that the chairs we admired so much are original to the property, along with some other furniture and decor. Other vintage items came from estate sales. The motel also has an espresso bar, not really good for much else except more MCM decor in the corner. Just up the street is the Kix on 66 Diner. I only mention this because the diner (which I also recommend) has the opposite approach to remembering Route 66 in its mid century heyday. The motel is classic and understated. The diner is engagingly kitsch. Go see 'em both.

Yelp
Stopped here tonight on our way to Phoenix to recover an abandoned truck. Not in our semi but a rental car,. I saw all the retro hotels here on Route 66 and decided we wanted to try one This place is awesome !! Yes it's retro... Cheap... But in great shape and front desk clerk ( owner ) is an awesome friendly lady !! They accept pets... We have three No big price for pets ,. Not like national chains The room is very clean... Carpet I must say is the best we have seen for a pet friendly room... Appears to be new Bed very comfortable Fridge and microwave Older tv ... Not flat screen but nice Cable / satalite. Free wifi Park next door Very retro... Which is what we were looking for on this trip Coffee / expresso shop here on site The lady at the front desk ( owner ? ) Even gave me plastic wear for our delivery food that wasn't a included A must stay at if your in the area We will for sure stay again here if we don't have the semi and trailer...

Yelp
Wasn't a great experience. Not at all like on hotels.com. Did have a comfortable bed. It's a really run down old motel on old Route 66. Add said run by a couple from CA who refurbished it but didn't recognize anything from the pictures online!!! Checked the A/C filter as I have dust allergies. It wasn't clean so I cleaned it in the tub and found tub didn't drain! Went to tell front desk and they gave me another room. Bathroom tub tile literally crumbling off. Drain worked though!! Did have decent coffee & cold cereal for breakfast...I would pass on this place..... Staff was friendly & accommodating but whole place was really run down!!

Yelp
This owner was a jerk on the phone. I actually was wanting to stay there and had a few questions but he hung up on me twice. Yikes. His loss. Hope he figures out how to be nicer.

Yelp
Clean and comfortable room on Route 66. Have stayed a couple times now and have enjoyed my stay both times. Friendly owner. Would recommend and will stay anytime I'm in the area.

Yelp
Stopped in on the way through. Great staff and good location. Although it's on a main drag in town. It's quite. Definitely a step back in time. Will keep on my regular places to stop when headed north from Texas
google avatar

Mario C.

Yelp
Awesome place to stay. Room was very spacious and was well priced. The owner remembered my name the next day. The ladies at the coffee shop in the hotel were both very nice as well. Definitely RECOMMEND this place if stopping by Tucumcari.
google avatar

D S.

Yelp
Good value. Room was clean & linens fine. Marked it down because there's NO COFFEE pot in the room. We get on the road early - long before the expresso bar opens at 7:00. There was a Loves right at the highway entrance so got our coffee fix.
google avatar

Yelp
Super friendly owner operator. Beds extremely comfy, and totally cool mid century decor. Clean and great AC.

Dan K.

Yelp
Very nice place, clean and well-run. Has a bit of a 60s vibe, but with flat-screen TVs so not total purism. Excellent value.
google avatar

Chad S.

Yelp
New owners are really nice. If you need anything just ask. Rooms are kept up and very clean.

Yelp
This place was really clean. Cheap and the kids loved it because of the airplanes. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
What a nice surprise! We stayed here on our way to Phoenix. We had our 2 dogs and they had a room for us all. It was vintage, clean, comfortable, and affordable. The front desk recommended a nearby Mexican restaurant that delivers and we were set for the evening! We'll stay there again on our way back to Kansas City. Only sad thing was that the espresso bar wasn't open.
