Sept. 29, 2021 - Take several minutes to walk into the PAST ! This is 1 of 9 covered bridges in Maine. Most of these old wooden covered bridges were constructed more than a century ago, prior to the use of steel. Sometimes the local town decides to protect and rehab the old covered bridge? This bridge is in reasonable shape, but there’s no historic plaque?
I rate this a solid 4.5 ! Most of the old covered bridges are isolated, and “not utilized“ anymore to carry vehicles. Most folks traveling west to east between ME & NH, stop to see local colorful foliage outside North Bethel & Newry . . . this is a picturesque spot of the Sunday River, complete with a postcard covered bridge !
This Paddleford Truss bridge is 87 feet long, built in 1872, and was closed to vehicular traffic in 1958.
