Hands down my favourite restaurant! The space is beautiful and it’s a very relaxed environment. They couldn’t be more considerate of dietary requirements and the staff couldn’t be lovelier. I’d recommend Hitchcocks to everyone & the food is full of SO much flavour - you will not be disappointed !

Fabulous restaurant. We had the Japanese food for valentines night. The staff were amazing and went out of their way to help us. The food was amazing - we have wanted to try Hitchcocks for ages we were over the moon - the food was mouth wateringly delicious. There was so much and so many different things to try. We are vegan there was so many things for us. Communication was fantastic prior to us booking. Staff super friendly and helpful. Thank you so much Hitchcocks ! X

Second time at this amazing vegetarian restaurant. Always amazing food here and wonderfully welcoming staff. Very unique restaurant as the first person to book gets to choose the food style, it was Italian on this night. So many different dishes to choose from and the cakes are incredible. Highly recommended

Google
Italian vegetarian night, eat as much as you like. A selection of wines. Ring the door bell on the right and someone will collect you from the first floor. A much larger restaurant than you would imagine. Good for large groups with vegan options. Recommend to book as it opens from 20:00 pm. My photo 6/10 of the barman wiping the glass has hit over 1,000,000 views today 16/08/20 took while on holiday in Hull January 2020 after the Russian Ballet.

I can’t fault this cosy venue; good food, friendly staff and a great atmosphere. It’s fair-priced and a joy for vegans like me who know there’s good vegan food out there if you look. This place caters for vegetarians and vegans; and there is plenty to eat and choose from, even for vegans. We’re much cared for. My only one quibble would be that there’s one very steep step inside. Can it be modified? Perhaps not if it’s a listed building. That aside I’m so happy to discover this gem of a restaurant in Hull centre.

Yelp
Any visit to Hull isn't complete without a visit to Hitchcocks!! This delightful restaurant in the old town of Hull is in the upstairs of an old foundry. I'm not a vegetarian, but I forget about that when I'm at Hitchcocks as the food is always so delicious. The menu this evening was a seasonal/Christmas theme which was ok but I much prefer the Italian theme. I love the unique way they choose the menu theme - if you're the first person to book for any particular evening then you get to pick the menu theme. The desserts are always to die for. My favourites are chocolate fudge cake and banoffee pie. A bottle of house wine is £9 or BYO for £1 corkage.

Yelp
Hitchcock's vegetarian restaurant is within the old town of the city. As you enter the premises it looks a bit Bohemian and in need of a few repairs. That said, the food is absolutely out this world and if you have never been to a vegetarian restaurant this is the one to try. I recommend you to put this on your list of places to visit. The home made style bar is cute and the drinks are very cheap, but if you want to take your own wine you can do and they just charge a pound corkage fee. Do not fear about there being no meat if you are not vegetarian as the buffet choice is second to none, and the deserts... Well... I will let you see and not spoil that amazing surprise.

Yelp
This has to be one of the oldest veggie places in the north. Ive been going here since I found out that there is more to life than the meat and two veg/staple northern diet. I converted many a carnivore into eating 'rabbit food' here. Decor is decadent and well, how a veggie place should look. if you are the first to book a table then you get to choose the theme, oh and did I mention it was all you can eat??

Yelp
Lovely food, quite cheap, and you can bring your own alcohol. The desserts are to die for! Highly recommended.

Yelp
A very nice vegetarian restaurant (although personally I think its going down hill a bit). There are some vegan options, and you can request vegan ice cream, but the vegan food is limited. The taste of the food is wonderful, and the staff are very nice. You get sent up in batches to the buffet of all kinds of yummy food - the queuing adds to the feel of the place - and you can go back as many times as you want. There are tables for two and also tables for big groups. You have to book in advance. I think it is well worth a visit, and definitely one of the better restaurants in Hull.

Yelp
I have only visited this restuarant once and although iam not a vegetarian, this was a lovely quaint restuarant with good food and service. Located in Hull's old town, down the side of Reveloution and near Sailmakers Arms, Ye Old Black Boy and Dirty Nellies. The building itself is old and there are stairs to climb before you reach the restuarant. It is only small with original features such as low dark beams - it is lovely and ideal for a romantic meal. I didnt think the restuarant was expensive, £15 for a 3 course meal with the main and desert all you can eat with a variety to choose from - another good thing about this restuarant it is not a traditional menu - they do 'theme' nights with the first to book to choose the theme - from mexican to greek to chinese. I do like my meat but i would recommend this place looking for anything different

Yelp
If you want a good night out with a group this is a place to try book early enough and you can even choose the menu theme, not being a vegetarian myself I was surprised at the quality and taste of the food. Perhaps not the type of place for a quiet candlelight dinner for two but great for a night out with workmates or similar. Take your own wine also no drinks licence.

Yelp
It's Hull's only vegetarian restaurant, which is why it gets 2 stars. But beacuse of that it doesn't try. Vegan options are barely existent, and you can cook better at home. It's never open when you want it too, and the whole booking before you go is so silly. It has a monopoly in the area so it doesn't need to try and improve. There is seating for about 20 people, any more in or a large group in makes it cramped and difficult to get to the toilets. I've found non vegetarian restaurants better for vegans than Hitchcocks! Very expansive too!

Yelp
Shame this great restaurant is housed in a fairly grotty building but the food certainly makes up for it. Eat all you want vegetarian buffet, different night different themes. graet place for a party, side room will hold up to 25.

Yelp
Loved Hitcocks! If you're a veggie go there, if you're not - go there anyway! Food is excellent, staff are very freindly and helpful, wonderful atmosphere, relaxed, informal, great decor. Plus the food is "all you can eat" which makes me a happy man! Deserts are amazing too. Been there about three times and had an excellent night out each time!

Yelp
Hitchcocks is ace! Delicious veggie food. A must visit if you ever visit Hull I'd say.

Yelp
Very poor. This place is dirty and the food is cold and tastes horrible. The whole place smells like something has died in there, and the staff all look like they sleep rough. A truly stomach churning experience.

was a couple of years ago i went here.......and even though me and my husband are meat eaters (he was not looking forward to a meat free meal)...... he and i was surprisingly pleased, the choice was very good, indian, italian, and chinese that night.. you could take your own wine and the corcage was reasonable...fun was had by all

Yelp
I love this place - food is home cooked veggie (I'm not a veg but still thinks its fab) the decor is 'shabby chic' - relaxed and informal, little bit different and very comfy and inviting. It's in a darling, quaint old building on High street, in the heart of Hull's old town. First person of the night books the 'theme' which is different countries - so far I have had italian (the best) japanese, spanish, cajun and chinese. A starter is brought to your table then each table takes a turn to visit the vast buffet which has loads of diffeent homemade veggie dishes. You can visit as many times as you wish. Desserts are then served from the counter - loads of homemade puds, cakes, fruit salads and ice creams, again you can have as much as you like. Coffee and tea are then brought to the table and they come back lots of times for top-ups. Set price £15 squid a head with reductions for students and OAPs. Get there for 8 ish to start eating at about 8.30pm. V busy - book in advance and don't eat for days before you go! LOVE IT

Yelp
I absolutely agree with April, that in fact this restaurant(it sickens me to refer to the establishment as this)is worse than school dinners! You have to ring a door bell to enter, we were greeted by the Chef in a filthy apron and frankly he looked like he could do with a through wash. Unfortunately we were attending a Birthday celebration so we were obliged to stay. The theme for the evening was Irish (remember this is a vegtarian place). The Starter was French baguette with garlic mushrooms as the garnish served on 4 plates for the whole table to serve 14, unfortunately I do not eat Dairy so had to pass on these (I wasn't dissapointed!). The process for the main course involved queuing up to self serve at the hotplate, given that ours was a large party it was very anti-social as one can only talk to their direct neighbours in a queue! After 15 mins of barely moving we arrived at the 'so-called' food; Soy Toad in the Hole, deep fried potatoes which imitated roasted ones, smash (we saw them walking around openly with the bags!) potato, broccolli, califlour etc. We were told we could revisit as many times as we liked but the queue was going across the whole restaurant (of-course they know customers won't bother hence the offer) however, I did revisit to get another sausage as I was so hungry. I had to collect 2 large jugs of tap water for the table. The Desserts were a selection of frozen (thawed when served, obviously) mass produced, e number filled delights of cheesecake, carrotcake, chocolate fudge and lemon tart or fruit salad (I had fruit salad - how boring!). The price was £15 per head for food only which is vastly expensive for what was on offer, in a lot of good restaurants with fresh food and Waiter Service you can get 2 courses for this or one very good one with a beautiful piece of meat and jus (apols Veggies-you understand the point). Personally, I would of rather of gone to a supermarket Café (I dislike supermarkets cafés) instead of this place as the food would be slightly better and a third of the price! This place needs to stop trade for the good of the people of Hull (I am from another city and was a visitor on this trip, this place backs-up the rumours about the lack of quality and choice on offer in Hull, MISLEADINGLY as there are some good places I hear).

Yelp
hitchcocks is situated upstairs in a hidden away building in the old town of hull. the decor is pretty horrible and dull which can be a bit off putting. but the food is too die for! they only do vegtarian and can cater for other dietary requirements. as a lifelong vegetraian i have been many many times and would reccommend it to anyone. just a shame about the look of the place

Qype User (AndyP5…)

Yelp
Having read these reviews, it strikes me that the things that some people absolutely hate about Hitchcocks are the very same things that other people absolutely love about the place. Sure, it ain't the Ritz... but the place is undeniably unique, which I figure accounts for the way it manages to divide opinions the way it does. Nor are you going to get a 'beautiful piece of meat with a jus', but if you can't get your head round that, then you are obviously way beyond help here. I absolutely love the place, and, though I admit I've not tried the Irish night, the last time I went (an Indian theme) it was ALL vegan bar the yoghurt and cucumber (I'm not vegan... my girlfriend, you understand...) , and not a hint of Smash in sight. Although I'd be interested to see what they actually do for a vegetarian Irish night. We good people of Hull are justifiably proud of the number of thriving small independant businesses that we have in our city, and when we look at the number of corporate chains operating in neighbouring cities like Leeds, it makes us thankful that we still have places like Hitchcocks. I've seen similar reviews on here by people calling for places like the Adelphi to close. If you're part of the minority that don't like (or understand!) a venue, then fair enough... I merely ask that you kindly stop trying to spoil it for the rest of us. The pecan pie is great as well.

Yelp
Very poor. The place has an over powering smell of damp and sewers. The food is cold and tastes terrible. It could also do with a good clean.

Albert N.

Yelp
Terrible. This place is a case of food poisoning waiting to happen. It is absolutely minging. Cold, smelly, dirty, overpriced and tacky!!!

Qype User (fiffyd…)

Yelp
dated, dirty, dismal......dont bother
