Badehotels, Denmark’s Traditional Seaside Inns, Are Getting a Makeover

"And near Skagen on the northern tip of Jutland, Mikael Valentin is bringing yoga, meditation, and a few more rooms to the mustard-yellow Hjorths Badehotel. Despite the updates, the property is still blissfully Wi-Fi-free."

This was such a great stay. Almost like travelling back in time. The whole hotel is light and bright and very well kept. A wonderful break from the hustle and bustle of the city. We had a junior suite with a nice balcony, only shame was the strong winds, so a bit chilly to sit outside. |The breakfast was so nice with home baked sourdough bread, rolls, and cinnamon rolls. And for dinner we had the set menu both nights, and that was also lovely, and well presented. The staff was so attentive and helpful. Would recommend everyone to try a stay here. I surly want to come back.

We were with a group of 15-20 people and shared a memorable evening with great food, to the "haute cuisine" level. The wine list is long enough to make a good choice - knowing that wines in Denmark's restaurants are very expensive. Very good service and nice "sea-side" interior.||P.S. I only dined there and didn't spend the night in the hotel.

We celebrated my parents anniversary at Hjorths. The starter we originally ordered was unavailable but Chef Peter apologised and offered us a lobster starter instead. What followed was one of the best dishes I ever had. The combination of ingredients as well as the different textures and plating was truly star like and something every gourmet temple in the world would be seriously proud of. Never was I happier that a dish I ordered was not available! We returned another two times during our stay in Denmark and each time the menu was excellent but especially the starters and the sauces were absolutely marvelous!! Chef Peter not only matched our expectations but raised the bar to a whole other level. His personal touch and explanations of the dishes table side in English were also extremely appreciated. Our diners were even more elevated by the superb waiting staff. Especially Morten in the dining room made our experience at Hjorths not only fun and thoroughly enjoyable but something to remember. At our first dinner the bottle we wanted to order was out of stock but Hjorths wine list had plenty of good alternatives. At our second dinner at Hjorths Morten managed to secure a bottle of the wine we originally ordered and had it waiting for us. All of his recommendations were absolutely spot on and elevated the entire menu. We would like to thank Morten and Chef Peter for three truly amazing dinners and evenings at Hjorths and really hope to see them again at our next trip to Denmark in 2021

Came in quite late for lunch. But the restaurant was still busy. It was wonderful weather so we decided to be outside in the garden.|The waiter came quite fast for our order. They have a quite decent menucard with some Danish specials also. All with a twist.|We got two pieces of Smørebrød and Fiskefrikadeller.|It was all well prepared and tasty. Took some time before it arrived, but that was ok. We got our special soda earlier, so no problem.|They also have a large selection of special beers.|You will be cloce to the sea and the famous walking dune, Råbjerg Mile.|The hotel is stress free zone, they claim. We actualliy believe that!|Prices are fair.

If you need a break from the buzz and hectic life in Skagen, go here... The hotel is fantastic, very good location near beach and with the best cousy atmosphere. Rooms are very nice and the service really good The restaurant serves really good food, mostly homemade and all is very fairly priced. They serve open sandwiches as well as traditional food, have a really good selection of wines too. You can enjoy your meal both inside or outside in the beatiful garden. I very much recommend this place... just loves the atmosphere ❤️

We had dinner here for my wife’s birthday. The staff are exceptional, very helpful and they spoke good English to explain the menu. We enjoyed the food! The location is in a really nice area, with a beautiful beach nearby too.

we have sjust stopped there on our search for the sanddunes. We have asked if possible to have an breakfast as we just arrived from Stavanger, Norway ferry.||Lovely Staff allowed us (family with 2 kids) to have an breakfast there. ||We had an very good breakfast there with fresh brewed coffee, cold cuts, good quality bread etc.||The Location is lovely, just nearby to the Sanddunes of Skagen. A must if you pass by in Skagen.||We definately would search for an overnight stay in this Hotel if ever back again in Skagen Area.

We got a nice, spacious room in an annex to the main hotel. It was clean and bright, in fact dark curtains would have been welcome at night. The bed was very comfortable and wide.||There was no in-room safe but we could deposit valuables in the reception.||The first two days the WiFi did not work at all, and then only in the main house.||There was no refrigerator, nor any TV (not important for us) or A/C. But heat rarely gets opressive here, and it’s a windy place. ||You can walk down to the sea in a few minutes from there, but the west coast is often windy, and during our visit it was certainly not inviting to dip into the choppy water. It also rained most of the time, which is not the hotel's fault, but it impacted our stay.||We enjoyed the daily breakfast with its Greek yogurt and fresh breads. We had a couple of dinners there as well. One was a standard package of three courses, served with great elaboration bordering on the ceremonial, but with some misses. With all the extra amuse-bouches it became overwhelming, so we settled for an a la carte meal next time.
