I’m a latina woman in her late 20s staying at the hostel during the second week of September 2025. I do feel it’s important to share some of my thoughts cause I read many of the reviews when I was coming and they made me terrified. Although I think every experience shared is valid, I feel other people might have the wrong impression so I’m here to share how it went with me.
I arrived at the hostel around 9am (check in is at 4pm), wet from the rain and VERY sick, probably with a fever. I came from Paris where they apparently were not super happy I’m a tourist with no French skills so honestly, I wasn’t hoping for staff to be welcoming at all.
At arrival, I spoke with Clemence. I told her I hated to be this straightforward but I was feeling extremely weak and she either let me wait at the cafe they have downstairs or she’d call an ambulance. For my suprise she is THE KINDEST PERSON EVER. I’m from Brazil and we take hospitality very seriously. This woman is AN ANGEL. She provided me with a cup of fresh water, put my luggage on the luggage room that is locked by the employee (different from what I read in some comments, it is very safe), and accommodated me on a sofa so I could rest a bit. She ensured I could check in as soon as my room was ready, what happened around 1pm. I deal with serious health problems and I have no idea what would’ve happened without their help. The whole staff is incredibly sweet. All of them fluent in English and willing to help. During the night, around 1am, I learned there will be a strike in France the day I’m leaving and the night shift guy, Mohammed, helped me to call the bus company and all. Again, incredibly helpful staff.
About the area: it is a neighborhood full of immigrants, so it may feel a bit weird, but def not like some comments described it. I didn’t see a bunch of drunk men messing around on the streets (at least not during the day).
The hostel is incredible comfortable for an old building. There are no elevators or ac. I don’t recommend coming during summer. But it is clean, one of the first in Europe I stayed in and it doesn’t smell like mold (even if there is carpet in the rooms). Showers are good and quite spacious. There is indeed two showers and two restrooms per floor. My personal favorite: the keep a shower rag, so you don’t have to step on cold floor when you leave the shower (I hate it when hostels don’t give u that). Bunks beds are normal, I didn’t find them narrow at all – they are the size of the one I have back home. There is a luggage lock beneath them that fits a lot but if you have a 23kg suitcase like I do, it wont fit. I left it in the luggage room and took my essentials with me.
They provide you with filtered water, a electric teapot, a microwave, etc There is a fridge in the kitchen that you can ask the employees to use. I brought my own tea and they let me use the tea filter free of change <3
The hostel is close enough from Perrache station to come by foot in case you are unlucky as me and arrive during a national strike. There are many restaurants and a Carrefour and Lidl close by.
I’d come back! <3
Note for the owner: the heart of your hostel is your employees. I was amazed by the quality of their service. Please, value them <3
