My brakes on old disc brake giant were stuck since not riding since last fall.
Stopped at hoback, and because of Covid, talked to door greeter. Asked if they can bleed and are the a few weeks out in repairs. He was nice but said you just have to bring it in. So I did same day.
Waited out front again and then told to take around to side...again Covid. No prob.
Waited for an unmasked guy on a bike to talk the repair guys ear off and they agreed they would clean out front fork on his bike and pick up tomorrow. Two more customers then me.
My turn. Guy says "old bike, known problem with avid brakes, bleed likely won't work, hold on a second". I wait, brings out one brake (for downhill bike) with $249 on box says not the best for this type of bike. Says two weeks out anyway so call around to other shops and if no one can help, come back... Likely $350-400 with labor I guess.
Look up on you tube. Known issue. Easy fix, need 2mm hex head. Don't have.
At 425pm today, I call Wilson backcountry and Andy answers. He owns it with his wife and I have talked to them before while coffee at pearl street.
He says bring it in. What time do you close. At 5pm, oh it's close to 5. Bring it over. He remembers my name from phone. Says let my guy take a quick look.
10 mins later, he says it's fixed. I say how much. He says $10. I say all I have is a $20, give the other $10 to the mechanic. He says thanks, I will throw it in our beer fund.
Made my day. What a great way to do business Wilson Backcountry. Customer for life...because he is a problem solve and an interested in helping 1st and worrying about the cash 2nd. No wonder everyone loves this place.
No disrespect Hoback. Wilson outdid you by 100x.
