"A UNESCO World Heritage site, this hotel was the home of Hispaniola’s first governor, Nicolás de Ovando, and one of the first colonial structures built at the top of cobbled Calle Las Damas (the first paved street in the Americas). Built in 1502 and connected in 1974 during a reconstruction ordered by then President Joaquín Balaguer, the three stone buildings retain their original coffered ceilings, massive arches, tile floors, and brick and stone walls. In addition to 92 rooms and suites, including a dozen Imperial Club rooms overlooking the Ozama River and Don Diego Harbor (Room 4015 has a particularly stunning view and gorgeous bathroom), you’ll find a lovely reading nook, gourmet restaurant, lobby mojito bar, and tranquil garden, which features herbs and fruit trees used by the hotel kitchen."

We stayed here with my husband and my 2 year old. We had an amazing experience. It is centrally located so you can walk everywhere. The food within the hotel is also really great for breakfast lunch and dinner! The servers go out of their way to ensure you are happy and the food was good too. Thank you Clara! ||You can walk right outside the hotel to Columbus Park where there’s many outdoor restaurants, live music, and cafes where you can get coffee including iced coffee. You can also get tours from there. ||The hotel was very clean and accommodating. The gym and pool are were also clean and well maintained. We loved it here and would definitely stay here again!

Beautiful hotel! The breakfast was delicious and huge - there was everything from beet juice, hot chocolate, to custom omelette orders to muffins. One morning they served churros in a Carmel sauce which was fantastic. The door men went above and beyond for their service. This hotel was very accommodating and right next to so many restaurants, and it felt very safe in the colonial zone. The power went out on our last morning there, but that is not bad considering we were there for 9 days. Hotel in general goes above and beyond - there was an emergency and the hotel called a taxi for the emergency. I highly recommend staying here- it’s a little musty but I think that’s just from the weather in the DR.

During our inspection trip, we were pleasantly surprised by the outstanding quality of service provided by the entire staff. Warm, energetic, and highly professional, they are always present when needed while remaining discreet and unobtrusive.||The hotel’s ideal location, in the heart of the Colonial Zone, immediately immerses you in a genuinely Dominican atmosphere, perfect for exploring the city in all its authenticity.||The rooms are exceptionally comfortable, with luxurious and pleasant bedding that invites true relaxation.|Only minor drawback: the electrical outlets are not fully suited to today’s technological needs.||The restaurant offers a refined menu, with cuisine that is particularly delicious and pleasing to the palate. A bit more fresh fish would have made it perfect, but that’s a minor detail given the overall excellence of the service.||As for pricing, the property offers great value for money considering its standard. However, it would be helpful for guests if prices were displayed including VAT, to avoid surprises when settling the bill.||In conclusion, this hotel is perfect for a 2- to 3-night stay in the capital of the Dominican Republic, allowing you to enjoy its exceptional setting and services while freely discovering the city on your own.

This is my second visit to Santo Domingo for work and my second stay at the hotel, everything has been wonderful! Perhaps my favorite part has been the beautiful breakfast and lovely attentive staff. The ladies at breakfast Yaritssa, Michel, Ana, and Minda are the best! I hope to come back again soon and when I do I will definitely stay at Nicolas de Ovando again :)

Felix Gonzalez the front door staff was excellent. He speaks perfect English and made my stay so memorable.. He recommended many local sites, explained the city, helped me check in and recommended different food to try. Felix was the gem of my trip and went above and beyond. I just wanted to come here and thank you for employing such an amazing person who deserves a raise. Thanks again.

The hotel is beautiful. The food was top notch. But the absolute best part of this hotel is the team. Every single encounter is filled with warmth, knowledge and genuine joy!

This hotel is your best choice when visiting Santo Domingo. The installations are spotless with a great fusion between the old arquitecture and modern amenities. Our room, although smaller than expected for the price, it was super nice, clean and comfortable with a great view over the main tourist corridor "Calle de las Damas". All the staff was super attentive and helpful, and as you walk around the hotel everybody greets you and offers to assist if needed. This is part of the nature of all the locals. Very polite and respectful. You might have to pay more, but it will be money well.spent for having a place to stay that it is sitting right at the heart of the colonial Santo Domingo.
