"A UNESCO World Heritage site, this hotel was the home of Hispaniola’s first governor, Nicolás de Ovando, and one of the first colonial structures built at the top of cobbled Calle Las Damas (the first paved street in the Americas). Built in 1502 and connected in 1974 during a reconstruction ordered by then President Joaquín Balaguer, the three stone buildings retain their original coffered ceilings, massive arches, tile floors, and brick and stone walls. In addition to 92 rooms and suites, including a dozen Imperial Club rooms overlooking the Ozama River and Don Diego Harbor (Room 4015 has a particularly stunning view and gorgeous bathroom), you’ll find a lovely reading nook, gourmet restaurant, lobby mojito bar, and tranquil garden, which features herbs and fruit trees used by the hotel kitchen."

Hodelpa Nicolás de Ovando (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) 1 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Hotel history in the Americas doesn’t get much deeper than this; Hodelpa Nicolás de Ovando occupies three stone houses dating back to the year 1502, on Santo Domingo’s Calle las Damas, the oldest paved road in the New World. As you might imagine, it’s been updated over the years, and today combines colonial-era atmosphere with contemporary luxury-hotel comforts — some rooms contain original stone walls or rehabilitated timber ceilings, and all feature tile floors and other stylistic nods to the building’s heritage." - Tablet Hotels

I highly recommend this hotel to everyone traveling to Santo Domingo. I travel a lot and stay in many hotels, and this is one that truly impressed and amazed me. The location is perfect- right in the historic old town of Santo Domingo and yet it still offers convenient car access directly to the hotel entrance, which is a rare and valuable advantage. From the moment you enter, you can feel a sense of history. The hotel is like a unique blend of a museum and a botanical garden, beautifully designed and perfectly maintained. Every detail is carefully thought out, creating a truly special atmosphere. The staff are exceptionally professional, friendly, and helpful, making the entire stay even more enjoyable. The food is outstanding and exceeded all expectations. Without any doubt, this hotel deserves the highest recommendation.

This hotel location is in the heart of where you want to be. The atmosphere is chill, calm, and very relaxing. The rooms are beautiful, with some of the original walls. Very clean and organized staff. The food was the best part, chef’s kiss. Also, Ada is an excellent server. she was kind, helpful, and very professional.

Loved this hotel. I had a room in the imperial club. This included a separate elevator, 24-hour access to refrigerated drinks sodas, bottled sparkling and spring water, appetizers like mini sandwiches, mixed fruit bowls AND Santo Domingo brand coffee/cappuccino machine. The room was gorgeous. It was located in the 2nd floor over looking the square and above the entrance flags.

This is the parent hotel to Novus Plaza Hodelpa and I must say the customer service here is exceptional. From Cesar (front desk) who greeted me with an amazing welcoming smile to Anna Cepedes (reception/reservations manager) who was able to help me in a professional welcoming manner. She even offered me a complimentary coffee. Thank you Anna for resolving my issue and I will be booking to stay at this location for sure. She even told me there is a day pass available to use the pool if I don't want to book overnight. Oh let me not forget Edwin and Fausto (doormen) also with wonderful welcoming demeanors. Thank to all for calming the beast in me from the experience I had at Novus. See you all very soon.

The room facilities were decent and generally well maintained. However, the noise level was quite high due to the hotel being very close to a busy street. The location itself is very convenient — close to shopping areas, restaurants, and city centers, which is a big plus. That said, my overall experience was seriously impacted by safety and service issues. I parked my car in the hotel’s own parking lot, which is advertised as part of the property. Unfortunately, the security in the parking area was poor, and there was also ongoing construction nearby. Within just five hours of parking there, my tire was deliberately punctured. When I reported this incident to the hotel staff, they showed no concern and offered no assistance or follow-up at all. I was left to change to a spare tire on my own. Given that this happened in the hotel’s parking facility, their lack of responsibility and response was very disappointing. Because of the poor security and unhelpful service attitude, I would not consider this hotel a safe option and would not recommend it to travelers who value safety and customer service.

Nestled in the heart of colonial architecture, this hotel exudes a charming colonial boutique vibe. Guests enjoy a reserved parking spot right across the street. The breakfast is decent but don’t expect prompt service. Even when directly addressed, waiters often ignore you and wander off. Starting breakfast at 7:00 a.m. is also a bit of a stretch. Our Christmas dinner reservation was a complete disaster. The food arrived cold, not in the menu’s order and the wine was undrinkable. Throughout our stay from before Christmas into the new year, the same Christmas songs played incessantly. Breakfast while Christina Aguilera was struggling with a terrible toothache while belting out Christmas tunes was a bit much.

We had our wedding here last weekend and stayed at the hotel for the week leading up to it. Service here is incredible, the rooms are beautiful and the property is rich in history. Location is perfect and walking distance to many landmarks. Only recommendation would be that they source more fans as the rooms can get a bit hot. Otherwise, perfect stay.
