Although I only had coffee and cake, the experience was amazing, the staff were very friendly and polite, they made lovely conversation. I will be visiting again for a meal. Highly recommend for coffee 👍

Surprisingly in Matlock Bath there's little in the way of coffee shops! I was desperate for my morning fix, it was raining and we both needed a hot drink after our walk..My wife, said about going inside, The Hodgkinsons Hotel, as we were nearly out of options, I wasn't so sure, however we did. What a lovely surprise, once we went in. Lovely little table and chairs, in a charming building. We had a lovely coffee and tea here, served by friendly welcoming staff. I highly recommend this place...but don't tell everyone 🤫

This hotel is like no other we have ever stayed in and was like staying in a museum going back in time. The rooms were all furnished for the period and were large and the bed v comfy. The bathroom wad lovely being modern but fitting totally with the period of the hotel. Breakfast was v good and you ordered the night before. It was a very convenient location and within walking distance of some attractions and rooms overlooked the river so very pretty. A really quirky but very interesting hotel in a great location with v friendly staff.

Arrived at this hotel with no booking, as refused to stay at booked hotel (High Tor) not far away.|Unfortunately, they only had vacancy for one night when we wanted 2 nights.|but, never mind getting late and staff were excellent to accommodate us. Its a lovely victorian hotel, class II protected, with many victorian features. Liked it so much we we have already booked a 2 night stay again next year.|Another bonus, they have private free parking on site.

This was our 4th stay at Hodgkinson and wasn't aware it had changed hands. The hotel was still beautiful with its stunning rooms, immaculately clean, totally equipped and with an amazing fresh breakfast. We were late arriving and found the self check in for late arrivals uninviting & impersonal. Guests invoices with room keys just left in the entrance for you to see what each of you have paid. If you want to leave a receipt pop it in an envelope. Whilst there are afternoon teas, pizza & snacks available during the day we were disappointed to see that the evening dining has been stopped, as we was looking forward to booking dinner and a cosy evening in the relaxing dining area and moving onto the front room with comfy sofas & open fire, which have been replaced by wooden tables & chairs. The bar would be open on an evening but now shut forcing you to go out, which defeats the object of staying in a hotel.||All that said, we would return as the place is still beautiful with loads of character and the new management & staff are all very helpful, nothing is too much trouble and it's clear to see they all go above & beyond with a smile.

Stopped at this lovely cafe in the hotel area, staff so friendly and welcoming. A lovely traditional place ,great to see. Was a warm day so we had cold drinks and was quick service and no rush to leave, very relaxing. A must try place. Seating outside and dog friendly in and out, and they even get a biscuit

We did not stay in the hotel - we had tea and cakes in the bar/cafe downstairs. Very good cakes - two of us had Bakewell tart slices, and one a slice of parkin - and it was also a very nice and relaxed space. Almost everywhere else in Matlock Bath seems to be a fish & chip restaurant so it was great to find a regular cafe!

Yelp
What a great little hotel! When you open the front door it is like stepping back into the Victorian era. Victorian/Edwardian antiquities adorn the walls and provide a very interesting and calming ambiance. My room was fantastic, see attached photo. The breakfast which was included in the nightly rate was voted as the best in Derbyshire and truly deserved that honour! If I ever need to be in the Derby/Matlock area overnight I will stay here. Say hi to Dianne if you get the chance to visit.

Yelp
Made the trek up from Derby for dinner. Great place with a wonderful interior. The restaurant is very cozy and offers up appetizing dishes. The rack of lamb is delicious. Definitely worth a second visit when back in Derby.
