This is the most beautiful, quirky hotel in a perfect location for seeing the area as well as a being able to completely relax. We have just stayed in Mayfield room, beautifully decorated and so comfortable. Service was impeccable and the lady and gentleman that run it cannot do enough for you. Breakfast is lovely, an honesty bar in the evening and all little touches like extra water that make this place perfect for a lovely getaway. We will definitely be back!

Very misleading from the outside and even perhaps when you enter, but the rooms were spotless with everything you'd get at a Premier Inn. It's a listed building, so it's old but well decorated. The breakfast was superb with loads of choice. Comfortable bed and nice shower. Nicely situated for sightseeing - parking on site (but up a steep hill but you are warned about this).

this place was such a gem. Starting with the hosts who will just do anything for you and are so warm and welcoming. The rooms were clean and tidy and so comfy! Little extras are left in the corridor, water, tea etc. which is so rare these days. Breakfast was among the best quality, superbly cooked every day and again, hosts so accommodating. Perfectly situated in the town for access and parking made it so easy to come and go. We will 100% be coming back!!

Arrived early and was greeted with a smile by Sue and Neil who were very accommodating. We had a lunch as it runs a cafe during the day, which was spot on. Our Room was on the 2nd floor which included tea, coffee biscuits and bottled water, and robes. Comfy bed we had the caulk room. Breakfast in the morning was fresh and cooked lovely all fresh ingredient's which there is a good choice, you can choose what time you want breakfast as well between 8-9.30am. Both Sue and Neil we found were friendly and appreciated there customers, nothing was too much trouble they advised good eating places locally which you could walk too. All in all a fantastic weekend we are just home and tucking into the Bakewell tart my wife purchased from the Hotel 10/10 Thank you Sue and Neil for a lovely stay will certainly recommend. Ps let us know when your in Norfolk and you can call in for a cuppa xx. All the best Chris & Sarah.

We stayed here for two nights with friends and found it to be an ideal location, and the hosts, Sue and Neil, were really friendly and helpful, and nothing was too much trouble for them. The breakfast was super, really well presented and good quality food. The hotel is an old townhouse, so it is a little quirky, but the room we had was lovely and the bed was really comfortable, the shower cubicle was a little on the small side for me but other than that it was perfect.

Lovely stay at Hodgkinsons Hotel 2 nights over the May Bank Holiday weekend the proprietors couldn't have been more helpful. Great breakfast with a large choice would definitely consider staying there again.

If you like olde worldy, youll love this hotel however, also bear in mind that to access the top floor rooms, you'll need to climb 45 steps every time so it's not for those with mobility issues. Our room entitled Mayfield was nice but did not deserve to be called deluxe or exceptional and, whilst there was complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits and water, the milk was out of date and curdled the tea and, there were no tissues so you had to blow your nose on toilet paper. Although not the owners, the couple who run the hotel were friendly and accommodating and their breakfast choices were good as was its quality and presentation. Unfortunately however, because there is no bar or restaurant available, you are forced to brave the elements on foot or by car and find somewhere else to patronize every evening. The hotel is well situated to access the numerous places of interest in the locality and there is free private parking albeit up a very steep hill so, drop your bags off at the hotel before you park up.

Yelp
What a great little hotel! When you open the front door it is like stepping back into the Victorian era. Victorian/Edwardian antiquities adorn the walls and provide a very interesting and calming ambiance. My room was fantastic, see attached photo. The breakfast which was included in the nightly rate was voted as the best in Derbyshire and truly deserved that honour! If I ever need to be in the Derby/Matlock area overnight I will stay here. Say hi to Dianne if you get the chance to visit.

Yelp
Made the trek up from Derby for dinner. Great place with a wonderful interior. The restaurant is very cozy and offers up appetizing dishes. The rack of lamb is delicious. Definitely worth a second visit when back in Derby.
