Came for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The schnitzel was delicious, along with the linguine special for the day. Good service, friendly staff, and even fit us in without a reservation.

A Truly Disappointing Experience at Hof Ehrenfeld I am writing this review with extreme disappointment and frustration after my recent experience at Hof Ehrenfeld, a place I once frequented and recommended enthusiastically to friends and family. Last weekend, my family was visiting Mainz, and I wanted to treat them to German food and wine. We decided to try walking into Hof Ehrenfeld without a reservation, hoping they might have a spot. Unfortunately, what followed was the most unpleasant interaction I’ve ever had at a restaurant. We were “greeted” by a team member named Justin, whose demeanor was shockingly rude and unsettling. I had encountered him before on previous visits and always found his vibe off-putting, though I brushed it aside at the time. However, this time his behavior was outright appalling. When I asked politely if he spoke English, he looked at me with a mixture of disdain and indifference that left me feeling both unwelcome and judged. His curt, dismissive “no” when I inquired about a table was beyond unprofessional. As a hospitality professional myself, I was horrified. This kind of attitude is a stain on the restaurant’s reputation. If I had a team member like Justin, I would address the issue immediately—such behavior can have a ripple effect on both guest satisfaction and team morale. Despite this horrible encounter, I decided to give Hof Ehrenfeld another chance the next day because I genuinely enjoyed the place in the past. I called to make a reservation and spoke to a polite gentleman who confirmed my booking, though he failed to ask for my name. When we arrived for our reservation, the hostess refused to seat us, claiming there was no record of our booking. This situation made us feel like imposters, adding insult to injury after the previous day’s experience. I was shocked and disheartened by the sheer lack of professionalism and the dismissive attitude displayed by the team. It’s appalling that a restaurant of this caliber employs individuals who tarnish the experience for loyal patrons. Hof Ehrenfeld is now off my list for good. What a shame to see such a lovely establishment ruined by its staff’s vile and unprofessional behavior. I would strongly caution anyone considering dining here—there are far better options in Mainz where your presence will actually be valued.

We loved the location and the cute style of this hotel. Very homey and cosy during a cold winter stay. The location was tops - close to everything like cafes, restaurants, shopping in general and those wonderful Christmas Markets.|We had one breakfast here and it was excellent. Plenty to chose from and even red and white wine - never have seen that at breakfast before!!|The twin room was quite spacious with a nice but smallish bathroom which suited us fine. Everything was clean and fresh. |The staff were obliging and friendly. I would definitely stay here again.

Our stay at this hotel was great – and probably one of the best experiences we've ever had in terms of customer experience. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by Félix, who went above and beyond to ensure every aspect of our visit was perfect. His hospitality was unparalleled, and his warm, genuine demeanor made us feel at home. Félix's dedication to providing customer service was truly remarkable. The room was also very clean and nicely arranged, but it was Félix's outstanding service that truly set this visit apart.

The room was clean and location was great. Although or check-in was pretty uncomfortable, as if a friend was helping out checking in. Other than that, we were aware there was no AC but opening the window was not an option as it’s the busiest back street. And finally, our shower phone didn’t work, you couldn’t hand it so it was only possible to hold it the whole time.

We only stayed here for one night but once we checked in, we wished we could have stayed longer. The room was very comfortable and the location is perfect for enjoying the Altstadt. We also had a lovely late lunch out on the terrace before leaving the city. Hope to be back sometime soon.

Both hotel and restaurant were great. Rooms were stylish and comfortable. A little street noise was audible, but it didn't create a problem sleeping. One note, you might have to track someone down in the restaurant if the hotel desk isn't occupied. Restaurant food was very good with huge selection of wine by the glass. And despite the large crowds, we were able to get a table right away and food came quickly.

The location is without doubt the best in Mainz situated in the oldest and prettiest surviving part close to the cathedral and perhaps 100 yards from the Chagall windows in St. Stephen's. The hotel is genuinely old with beams everywhere. The breakfast was plentiful (better choice than most) with grape juice from its own vines. The rooms were spacious (ours was the largest, room 111 and had a superb view of the cathedral spires/towers) and fully equipped even with a large electric fan (and we needed it). The hotel had its own courtyard restaurant, again with a view of the cathedral - and the food was excellent. My wife is a vegetarian and it was really nice for her to have an imaginative good choice of food. Excellent wine from the region too. Can't fault the place. I'd stay there again.

Yelp
I came because my coworkers were talking non-stop about this place and I'm not disappointed. It's located in a nice and cute neighbourhood (sorry if I'm not right about it). The restaurant is gorgeous. It's well-maintained, tidy and organized as the patio. We decided to take a table on the patio. The menu is German gastronomy mostly. I was a little bit indecisive and the waitress helped me to choose something from the menu. It was an excellent choice! The Schnitzel was really good and the size of the dish was quite big. I was quite surprised about the pepper sauce because I hadn't had it before and it was so tasteful. The prices are right. The staff was polite and friendly at all times and the service was fast. Definitely coming back!

Yelp

Yelp
I went here with to co-coworkers for dinner, and had no idea it was so lovely! We were seated in the courtyard, and while that set the bar pretty high, both the food and the service lived up to it! Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
The food was fantastic and it appears to be a quaint, authentic restaurant. I am the only English speaker in here, but they had an English menu and my server was fantastic. I had the traditional schnitzel and the potatoes were so good, I ate every last bite. I would definitely come back and would recommend it if you are looking for a break from the language barrier and want a great meal at a good price!
