"Hofbräukeller am Wiener Platz: Great Playground Serving their world-famous beer, the Hofbräukeller am Wiener Platz is where locals go to unwind after work under the shade of the chestnut trees. It's also a popular beer garden with parents since it has a large play area for kids."

We were here on a Friday evening with #Bigfoot and #Littlefeet and the beer garden was full and completely occupied. There was a good mood everywhere. We had a big table in the corner at the back and a home-made buffet was set up next to us at the table. Of course, beer gardens are expensive nowadays. But it's a nice experience to meet up with friends there and chat over a beer and a chicken. Above all, you can bring your own food. The beer garden is certainly one of the most beautiful in Munich and is most comparable in size to the beer garden at Nockherberg. We had a lovely time and the service was great! Can only recommend this place. The toilets were also clean and ok.

Google
A very large beer garden with an efficient outdoor food and drink ordering system. The food and experience is authentic and it creates a fun, social atmosphere. We’ve been a few times and could always find a place to sit even though it’s been busy.

Google
Wonderful place and ambience. Waiters are very kind and sweet. Food is not at top but has a great variety. Restrooms are clean and big. Overall a nice experience, food could be little better.

Google
Real deal traditional beer and food experience. In warm weather, the best biergarten in Munich (as I was told by a long-time Munich resident). It is just the right size, about the size of a squared-off football pitch. It is shaded by many leafy chestnut trees and features a walk-up bar. Inside, bierkeller atmosphere with tradition but not kitsch. Service is optimal. I had a superb Kellerbier (I am a BJCP National beer judge) and Obatzda (spiced cheese blend) served with pickle, radish, brown bread and fresh lettuce. Really quite excellent all around.

Google
Very gemytlich..Beer is great , but minimum 100 cl in top-heavy glass ( after 15h) is hard to our old arms. We had bratwurst with sauerkraut, I loved it , my wife less so. But a memorable evening in a garden by the river

Google
Great place with a lot of space and a beautiful garden, great atmosphere!!! Good beers although not a big selection. The food was ok but I was expecting a bit more honestly. Quiet average overall.

Google
A fantastic place to truly enjoy food and drinks from Bavaria, all while sharing the atmosphere with thousands of others spread out across the huge garden and restaurant. This is a must-visit if you're spending time in Munich. The service is amazing – the men and women working there are absolutely running themselves ragged on nights like these. Huge thanks to Antonio for helping us find a table for two, even though it seemed like there was no space for us. What a great guy!

Google
Impressive huge building with traditional Bavarian restaurant, dance room dining rooms and a great Biergarten. Centrally located at Wienerplatz easily accessible with U-Bahn Max- Weber Platz.

Yelp
Place was packed on a Thursday evening. It was a rainy night so no one was in the beer garden area. Noisy like a beer hall. At first head waiter told us (party of six) no. Yes, I know we should have made a reservation. But my wife asked if we could join two high tops and then all was gut. Super fast service and the meals were great. Waiter was very helpful in suggesting meals and what to avoid. But this is not the place to spend a leisurely dinner. Lots of locals eating here. I thought the price was good considering this is a tourist spot too.

Yelp
Great place! Nice ambiance, clean and beautiful, great service and awesome food. Very nice staff, friendly and helpful. I'm looking forward to going back to Munich and will definitely visit again.

Yelp
Damn what an authentic German HB in the middle of town. As you walk into this expansive indoor Biergarten you are greeted with the smell of great meat, sourkraut and hops. I ordered the bees Wiener schnitzel which came out quickly and was accompanied by a nice Bavarian potato salad. The food was ok but I feel it missed a bit of salt. Food was a 3 star, the additional star is due to the location and atmosphere. Service was slow at the beginning but it picked up after we ordered.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was ok. Service was not so good. It was recommended to us by locals as opposed to going to some more touristy locations. It was a Thursday night, and not too busy. It's possible our waiter was just having a bad night.
google avatar

Rick H.

Yelp
Service was non existent. Server was very rude and he took our order and then delivered them. Besides that we didn't see him. When he dropped off the food, I ask for another beer. It never came. Food was mediocre at best.
google avatar

Mark F.

Yelp
Good food good beer and great atmosphere sitting outside on a warm late spring day. My only critique is that they only had one beer, weiss beer, that was in a half liter option. Everything else was a full leader or a bottle.
google avatar

Tim T.

Yelp
Awesome staff! Awesome atmosphere! Awesome food! The biergarten is a very relaxing and enjoyable ambience.

Yelp
I mean, it's great. It's a walk, or a subway if you're staying in town-town, but worth it. Less crowded, at least on a week day, then the centrally located one, and I think our beer and food came out within minutes. You can see how this place would just be packed during the regular season, with a massive beer garden, both inside and outside. People all seemed to be having a great time and as a plus they have a massive bathroom. Beer, obviously just amazing, get a pretzel!

Yelp
So we were staying at the Munich City Hilton and my colleagues wanted to eat at a authentic Munich style Biergarten. I saw this one listed on Yelp and it was close by the hotel so we decided to go. From the sidewalk it looks typical, not grand but nice. Then you walk into the most massive Biergarten I've ever seen. On a Monday evening there had to be 1000:people there but plenty of tables and staff to accommodate everyone. Hofbräukeller is part of the Hofbräuhaus you find in Marienplatz. The food is good and the service was great. Beautiful atmosphere under the many trees and lanterns. Very fun.

Yelp
Good food and drink! Large portions and great service. Liked it so much we came back the next night. Try the duck! And, of course, the beer. Prost!

Yelp
Hofbrau was my first meal in Germany! My German friend brought us here and ordered what he considered iconic dishes for us. First was the Weisswurst and pretzel with mustard. The sausage was served in a broth and was probably my favorite of all the kinds I tried in Germany. The pretzel was not much different than what you might see in America but the mustard really made it great. My entrée was spaetzle which I can only describe as a better version of mac and cheese. It was topped with fried onion bits and was well-seasoned. My fiancé had the schnitzel which was served with jam and fries. Delicious, well cooked, well seasoned! I highly recommend this dish! Like any biergarten, this is a great place to gather and meet with friends. They had a projector playing word series qualifying matches on the wall. Pretty loud and fun restaurant. I'm not really a drinker but the beer here was great. I can see why Germans love their beer. Ostensibly beer is the new water because you have to pay for water in Munich (I'm told).

Yelp
Das was sehr gut. Wunderbar. This place was slight touristy, but, whatever, I'm a tourist. The menu had a simplified English section for folks like me, and the staff didn't over complicate the beer selection and other stuff. Basically, our waiter said "I'll get you the house beer" and "skip the pretzels; our portions are huge." Some people wouldn't like that but I appreciated the assist. Thanks for the welcoming atmosphere and great dinne

Yelp
Came here on a rainy Monday night. The place was quite empty. The server was chatty and friendly. It looks like an awesome place to get a beer and hangout, but I guess we should have tried on a busier night.
google avatar

Yelp
We had a wonderful time visiting the beer halls of Munich, and this was one of my favorites. It's a bit more upscale than Hofbrauhaus, and when we were there at least, definitely quieter. We enjoyed a few liters of their wonderful beer, and shared a cold plate of Obatzda, sausage, pickles, and more. Whatever you do, order the Obatzda!

Yelp
I was really looking forward to an authentic German meal during my first visit to Germany. Although this was a really nice restaurant with lots of great atmosphere, we were slightly disappointed in the food and more than slightly disappointed with the service Our food was okay, but definitely on the bland side. I received a lot of potatoes and 2 big pieces of veal schnitzel, but, after eating about half, I didn't really desire to eat any more. It all just tasted the same. My husband fared better with his fish, but still, he said that it was lacking flavor and somewhat disappointing. From the start, we were dismayed with the service. We know very little German, but definitely weren't expecting that everyone should accommodate us with English. We were fine with knowing that we might have to struggle with the menu a bit on our own and point/gesture to place our order, and do our part to make things as easy as possible. We were given German menus when we were seated, but when our server discovered that we knew little English, he kind of huffed, took our German menus away, and delivered English menus to us...but not in a very nice way. We tried to be as pleasant and accommodating as possible, but he seemed to be very impatient with us. He took our orders, brought our food, but nothing more. Turns out, he did speak English quite well, but he did not seem to want to try to be nice to us....until he brought us our check and swiped our credit card. Then he asked us to give him a tip.

Yelp
Came to Hofbraukeller on our first night in Munich with a big family group. We squished into this long table, beer hall style. Service was great and we managed to order despite our bad attempts at German. Our waiter was very organized and had a great sense of humor! This was our first liter of hofbrau beer, even though there would be plenty more later in the week. I had a Bavarian salad which had fried sausage and pretzel croutons on top. It was nice to get some veggies in before our week of beer, pretzels, and potatoes. The dressing was really good and the sausage was delicious! My fiance got schnitzel which was ok. A little dry compared to other ones we've had. It was a great atmosphere and way to meet friends and spend our first night here!

Yelp
Probably one of the coolest places I have ever been to. This is exactly what you want when you think German Biergarten. There was tons of families and friends all around, liters of beer were flowing, pretzels were doughy and warm, currywurst was covered in the spicy ketchup, and there was laughter everywhere. If I had more time or lived in Munich, this would for sure be one of my top hangouts. A must see.

Ray S.

Yelp
Wonderful Biergarten with friendly attentive staff! Great beer and menu for lunch or dinner.

Yelp
Met up with someone I knew from Munich, and he suggested this spot for a great place to eat and see. He definitely didn't lead me wrong, especially with the menu choice of the Schweinshaxe (Bavarian pork knuckle). Any piece of meat with crackling skin is an automatic win, and this was it! The mashed potato ball did an excellent job of soaking up the sauce/juice from the pork knuckle, and the crunchy skin is what I want to eat right before I eat my actual last meal on Earth. My friend warned of the huge portion, and that he can't typically finish it. I essentially laughed in his face and proceeded to polish off my plate. The beer garden in the back looked like a great place to hang out...if it wasn't rainy outside, but this just meant everyone had to have a jolly ole' time indoors with each other. Service was top-notch even though it was basically happy hour and the place was packed. We got our beers and food really quickly!
google avatar

Yelp
This is possibly the nicest setting for a biergarten in Munich. The food and beer is pretty much the same across most of them but the trees and nature and lights in the evening makes this one pretty special and somewhat romantic as well. You can take a stroll across the river from old town, peek at the parliament buildings and come here for a beer.
google avatar

Diana A.

Yelp
Food and service were amazing!!! It is the restaurant of the hofbrau style the hofbrau is a huge loud party and the place has a nice restaurant quality about it. Perfect start to our Bavarian vacation
google avatar

Sam S.

Yelp
Great biergarten in Haidhausen. Located near a number of outdoor cafes this is great area to spend a sunny afternoon. The biergarten itself is quite big and has a good range of food choices and of course you can also bring your own food if you like. They have a wide selection of drinks and beers. I had a Dunkles Weissbier which was nice and creamy. They have baskets of huge Brezel that are unique to biergartens and of course normal biergarten food like chicken, schinebraten, obatsda, wurst and of course kartoffelsalat. If you were to go indoors the menu is bigger and you get table service as well. I would happily come back here on a sunny day :-)

Yelp
Good food, charming atmosphere and WAY less chaotic and touristy than Hofbrauhaus am Platzl. We had dinner here on our first night in Munich and really enjoyed it. It's right next to the little market on Wienerplatz and has a surprising amount of different spaces. There's a restaurant, a bierstube, a kids area, a big biergarten and what looked like a disco on a lower level? Every tourist has to experience "big Hofbrauhaus" - but when you've been there and done that, Hofbraukeller should be next on the list.
google avatar

Isabelle L.

Yelp
The highlight: the beer garden. Really nice and relaxing with a choice of sit down with waiter service or self serve. The pretzel from the self serve was huge and the best I ever had. From the sit down restaurant menu, the duck was cooked to perfection. Good service, good atmosphere, decent food, this is a beer garden that is worth the detour.
google avatar

Philippe B.

Yelp
Bavarian Tapas! What a great idea! I had the vegetarian variation and all the 3 small dishes were delicious and beautifully presented. For only €9,50 I got a lovely light meal that matched perfectly with the bier.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Not as busy as Hofbrauhaus but this place is also HUGE! I didn't want to leave but we did leave to go to Hofbraukeller (recommended to me by The Cupcake Bloke!) on Inner Wiener Str near Cafe Weiner Platz and no I can't say that with a straight face. Ordered red wine (yes I know I was in a beer hall but still not a beer drinker!) and a pretzel. This was a lovely way to finish off our evening...
google avatar

Jocelyn W.

Yelp
Did I seriously never review this place? This was such an amazing place with such an amazing vibe. We went in the warm weather and sat outside on the picnic tables. Got some normal grilled chicken and sides, beer of course, pretzels, delicious mustard. It was just so chill. We just went thru the cafeteria style line and got the food. A very beautiful chill moment for me. There were also people who brought their own food along. We got some liters of the radler which is so refreshing on a hot night. The chicken and pretzel were a little drier than I prefer but since I am from USA I defer to their preference in this regard. Love this place. wish I was there now.
google avatar

Janie M.

Yelp
The first impression was absolutely wonderful and looked like what I would imagine Oktoberfest to be. Tons of people having a great time drinking beer and eating!! We did not know "what to do" as there was no one to greet you. We were thankful for an English speaking German girl who filled us in!! Our waiter spoke limited English and seemed to be irritated most of the time with our German language attempts. He did not crack a smile at all just seemed annoyed that we were there. Fortunately, the delicious food made up for the service. Everything we ate was great.
google avatar

Jd E.

Yelp
Giving this spot four stars for the beautiful beer garden, which my colleagues and I enjoyed on a perfect evening in mid May. The beer was as good as expected, of course, but the schweinshaxe, my favorite food to eat in Bavaria, was a little dry.
google avatar

Dawn M.

Yelp
Charming beer garden with nice selection of simple food choices. Nice place to hang out and kick back with friends.
google avatar

Stacey S.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I went here as part of a Bavarian beer and food tour. The beer garden was closed due to it being January, and the beer hall was enormous! If you love wheat beer, go here, and try the dark wheat beer! It will change your life! We also had a platter of various sausages, cheeses, meats, and weisswurst (white sausage). This would be a great place to go with a large group of friends! Enjoy!!!
google avatar

Judy C.

Yelp
Wanting Hofbräu beers without having to go to Hofbräuhaus, Hofbräukeller is the perfect alternative. We went inside the keller on a late Sunday morning. The indoor space is spacious and rustic, and it was not too crowded. Service was average, but we enjoyed our Weisswurst breakfast with usual pretzels and sweet mustard. Definitely looking forward to check out the Biergarten on a warm day.
google avatar

Joe T.

Yelp
Wow. Best meal we've had since coming to Germany. Quiet and not as swamped as the other brew pubs. Beer was on spot and meals were superb. I went with the beef schnitzel which came with a light potatoes salad. My sisters boiled Ox won a landslide victory. It came with the first side of veggies I've seen since the first week of August. The spinach it came with was cooked perfectly but what made the meal was the horseradish gravy that came on top of the Ox. Also try only had a German menu since they have a special menu for Xmas and our server walked us through each item. Best waiter we've had and we've been to four countries and 8 cities on this trip.
google avatar

Jaina S.

Yelp
this place is getting four stars because I love the biergarten out back. I'd give it 5, even though the food is fair to middling (great pretzels though). I like to bring along a salad or something and stick with just the beer & pretzel here. inside is probably 3 stars. it's fine, nothing particular noteworthy. The food is vastly superior to what's served in the biergarten. One thing that bugged me though was I chose my entree BECAUSE it came with blaukraut (which is one of my favorite German foods!) -- and it came out with no blaukraut. I probably could have asked about it, but the waitress disappeared for long periods at a time and by the time we saw her again after she dropped off the entrees, it was kind of a moot point because I was pretty much done eating. For the biergarten: worth making an effort to get to. For the inside restaurant: fine place to go if you're in the neighborhood and feel like eating German beer hall food.

Yelp
One of the great places to visit in Munich. Great combination of music, people and beer. The band is awesome. I wouldn't recommend this place for food but beer is great.
google avatar

Chrissy L.

Yelp
Good ass SEASONED food and great beer. You cannot go wrong!
google avatar

Sean G.

Yelp
Smaller than it's sibling but still vast good service and located close to U and bus stops. Worth a visit if you are in this area as there are some good restaurants close by
google avatar

Lars W.

Yelp
If you are looking for great bavarian food in a typical, rustic atmosphere, go here. The food is great, the service excellent, and the beer is top quality. This is a Munich original you just can't miss.
google avatar

Kris P.

Yelp
Clearly a local favorite as I was here on a Thursday night and it was a good mix of folks meeting after work, families, dinner parties, and individuals in for a 1/2 litre. All standard Hofbrau beers on tap and seasonal/special brews too. Good location, nice setting. Great Bavarian food! Entrées were large portioned (but looked SO awesome) so I opted for one of the smaller sausage plates served with plenty of sauerkraut and a pretzel. Hit the spot! My guess is weekend nights and when the garden reopens on spring, this place will be very busy. This Yankee can't wait! (Pro tip: they have English menus!)
google avatar

T M.

Yelp
Great beer garden and a nice change of place from the others. Although you see the kids and families, this one seemed have a younger and hipper crowd. Would be a must for me if I was a single man in Munich. Food and beer the typical fair. Glass deposit is 2€ instead of the typical 1€. Get here early as it was packed minutes after 5pm and finding a seat was impossible. Would come again.
google avatar

Carly X.

Yelp
We had one night in Munich and wanted to make sure that we made it to a beer garden during our stay. I am so happy with our choice. It was classic Bavarian deliciousness. We ordered the the veal schnitzel and the pork knuckle. The schnitzel was supper tender and went well with the hefeweizen. It came with the most divine lightly fried potatoes. The pork knuckle was ridiculous. It was gigantic and amazing. It came with a fluffy potato dumpling that was perfect for sopping up the juices. We finished our meal with an amazing apple strudel. It was perfect and not too sweet. It would have been amazing with a cup of coffee. We didn't catch our waiter's name, but he was fantastic. He was from Bavaria and was a wealth of knowledge. I loved this place!
google avatar

Michael W.

Yelp
Food and beer are decent. Nothing to rave about. There staff is very nice and they put on a nice show. Sausages where ok sauerkraut little off though. Had the Ruder beer with lemonade but was nota fan.
google avatar

Javier E.

Yelp
Best place for Bavarian traditional food in München. Ordered one dish with a bit of everything (pork, duck, onion, bread dumpling, potato dumpling) and when I got it my friend was laughing so much as my face was just pure happiness. Also great as a Biergarten. Great Food, great beer and nice and friendly staff.

Mike J.

Yelp
Awesome service for the non-German speaker in München. The kids play area in the restaurant saved the day with the 2 year old going thru "the screaming phase". Highly recommended to come here. Less hectic than Hofbrauhaus in platz. Same on a Sunday at 6p. Pretty calm n quiet. I love it. Except for the part where my kid wouldn't leave the play area to eat. Ugh.
google avatar

Stephen A.

Yelp
We've done a few beer halls in Munich including the Hofbräuhaus and this was the best. We road our bikes from the city and took five minutes. A wonderful beer garden with a great selection of food. Kids play ground.

Kristin M.

Yelp
This might be my favorite biergarten in Munich. We had been staying in Munich for several days and we're feeling too tired to go back to the old town center, and were staying in the Holiday Inn and picked this place because it was a close walk. What a pleasant surprise! It felt much less touristy and more local than other biergartens we visited and the grounds were beautiful. We sat outside in the seat yourself section and had a lovely time. Food and beer was good, standard to what most of the biergartens serve. I considered not reviewing it so it would stay our little secret!
google avatar

Nick H.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I came to Hofbräukeller to meet some friends and watch the Germany-Greece Eurocup quaterfinals game. We had a blast! On game day be sure to make a reservation or else show up early! We lucked out and scored an outdoor table with a partial view of the big screen. This place is in a fun neighborhood and is much less touristy than most of the beer gardens downtown. The food was great and despite the enormous crowds the service was fast and efficient. I definitely recommend it if you're in the area or looking for a place to watch some footie.
google avatar

Grace T.

Yelp
Perfect spot as a Biergarten in Munich with high quality food (and of course higher prices too). Was here last night when the DFB Pokalfinale was showing - good atmosphere, best place to hang out with friends.
google avatar

Jenny J.

Yelp
Best beer garden we went to during our trip in Germany. Huge space with tons of tables to fit many people. The beer was big; the food was delicious. This is the exact atmosphere I imagined while being at a beer garden - relaxed and comfortable. If I come back to this country, this is definitely a place I would frequent again.
